Review Taste Of Punjab - Edenvale - Johannesburg

Still the same brilliant food they've always had but now with a stunning sunset to dine with in their better placement. Delicious food bursting with flavour. True tastes that remove me of my journeys to India.

Always good food and good service. Enjoyed my meal

Very good Indian food. Friendly staff. Decor can be better. The butter chicken dish is really one the best I have ever tried. They also do take aways.

I like it, its a small quirky Indian restaurant jammed between two other shops on the top level of a small centre, but it works, the food is great, service staff are excellent, the curries are well priced and beautifully spiced, the garlic Naan bread is awesome! They also do a brisk takeaway trade judging by all the delivery guys coming and going

The food is absolutely amazing. Their butter chicken curry is stunning, and I can really recommend anything on their menu. The area is not the best, and I would recommend take-away, but the food is totally worth it.

Local Northern Indian cuisine. Food always good and usually not over crowded. Small seating area. Centre where it is located is small and doesn't offer anything else that is significant. Can feel unsafe as it is quite dark at night

Best Indian food east of Joburg. Great service. Extensive menu. Well priced. Be prepared to wait for your meal because it is always freshly prepared.

They have the best curry for me...tastes like homemade cooking!! The shopping centre is a bit of a dump. But the food here is great with large portions.

Great tasting food, especially the veg Manchurian.. Only downside, is that most curries are mostly Gravy and very little meat or veg.

Take away order: delicious, complex, generous and high quality Indian food. Mild could be slightly milder, otherwise it would be 5 star's. I'll be back.
Cindy Sterrenberg
This is the only place to have curry at. And the desserts were just as delicious. The waiter was passionate about the food and his recommendations were spot on

Everything about this authentic little place was awesome. The location, staff and atmosphere was great but the food was perfect!
Paula de Sousa
Got take aways absolutely divine. Had the butter chicken and the prawn curry. Great portions.
Brad-Lee Dauth
Real good Indian food, awesome service even when I make my own curries I come buy Naan and condiments.
Jonathan Du Toit
The curries are great and tasty. Even have a mild which kids can eat and enjoy. Recommend trying Taste of Punjab

We ordered takeaways, tandoori chicken, butter chicken, roti and mixed raita. So delicious with just enough amount of spice to differentiate them from the rest. We will definitely order again.

Food is really good but they are overpriced. Prices used to be reasonable but now I just can’t justify it. Location is restaurant is also a pity.
Patrick Gordon Johnson
They are overpriced, restaurant prices for small takeaway portions. Just not value for money. Food was reasonable quality, wont hurry back though.
Steven
Got take aways, food was not fresh and sour, so little meat and was tough, much better offerings available from competitors, poor quality, wont order from them again,

This is a small restaurant on the upper floor of a shopping centre. It’s clean and attractive. We had a platter for one as a starter, a Chicken Madras and a Chicken Tikka Masala with a buttered Naan bread. Everything tasted freshly prepared. The correct spiciness for both the Medium and the Mild dishes, with the difference being the added chilli in the Medium. Service was relaxed but attentive and helpful. We have found our new favorite curry restaurant in the Edenvale and Bedfordview area.

We always get takeaways here, I personally love their Briyani's, it is simply divine. The best place for some amazing authentic north Indian cuisine. I am literally lucky as I stay a few metres away from this place.

Think I could get better Indian at my local Chinese restaurant, lamb over cooked, naan rubbery, samosa like biting into pastry that’s a year old. Very disappointed

Got takeaways from Taste of Punjab, so I can't comment on the service. Food was good lacked a bit of flavor from all dishes ordered but I will definitely be back. Portions are big and worth the price.

We are always on the hunt for another good indian restaurant and this is definitely one of them that we'll return to! The staff are helpful and friendly and the owner/manager's presence and interest was even better. We ordered the chana masala and the matar mushroom with naan and paratha and the food was SO delicious!! We both ordered medium and honestly they were closer to hot but the flavours were delicious and so I was happy with the heat! Highly recommend this local restaurant for some authentic and yummy indian cuisine!!

Ordered take away bunny chows.Took an hour to get ready. No flavour, just hot. The worst I've ever had. Mostly bread, very little filling. Lamb tasted like plastic.

Stopped for a later afternoon bite after being highly recommended by a collegue. Shared potato bites as a starter, wife & daughter shared chicken korma, I had the Punjabi lamb curry off the bone with butter nan - flavours were superb & the meal went down well. Will definitely return to savour more of their menu.

Situated in a very dim and not-so-attractive shopping complex, I drove passed it quite a couple of times and thought I should try it out. Not sure if I'd go back to try out the rest of their menu. I bought their signature lamb curry and was left disappointed. It still contained cumin seeds and traces of cinnamon sticks (ouch) which made every spoonful taste bitter. I bought their garlic and butter naan which I found to be quite oily and too doughy. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the food. On a lighter note, their portions are decent. :)

A quaint typically Indian restaurant located in a not-so-great looking shopping centre. The food doesn't take long to arrive, staff are friendly and quality that rivals restuarants double the price. Sadly though the "bunny" is a fraud: instead of a classic Durban curry it's filled with a North Indian lamb curry. Relatively tasty but it's not what it supposed to be.

I ordered a lamb curry on the bone ...... I got pieces of fat and tiny bits of lamb in between the fat chunks and only one proper piece of lamb meat ... I was so disappointed..... never again

Taste of Punjab has been a favorite of mine for a while. The food has always been of a high standard and super tasty. I have seen a major improvement of late, which means they value their clients and their business reviews. The staff are friendly and cute.
The prices are fair for portion size and quality.
I love recommending them to visitors! :) this is definitely the place for fresh, quick, home cooked style meals. Yum!!!
Best samoosas in town... they've made the decor a little funkier and when you see Indians dining in an Indian restaurant, then it must be good! Their wine list has a bit to be desired though... nearly all of their white wine choices are Sauv Blanc... a little variety would be good!

Grabbed take-out here on the recommendation of a very fussy friend. Restaurant was empty when I arrived, just one other guy waiting for take-out. Took about 35 minutes for food to arrive - threw was some discussion as to whether the garlic cheese naan was in the bag; the servers decided it was.
Got home to discover the only difference between the garlic naan and the supposed cheese stuffed naan was that one had an orange glow on top - about the only indication of possible cheese.
Ordered full portions and whilst the chicken pieces in the korma and butter chicken were large, it still seems over-priced.
Chicken was tender but both dishes were incredibly sweet. Naan a little doughy.

Our consensus: Shami Yana on Van Riebeeck is the better option.

Staff dont know what they doing. They Bearley apeak English so orders are never right when you get home. Chicken is mini size as well. I ordered takeaway what ever i asked for when a got home was opposite. Happend twice now. I won't go back

The food was fantastic and the nan was excellent!
I would rate them higher but the cloth napkins were not very clean(which Reminded me of being in India though so I guess it was an authentic experience).
Had a lunch with my family there last Wednesday . Food was good but service was very Dissapointed . waiter was playing with his mobile outside. no one there to great us. We wait more than 20 mins to place an order for drinks . He don't know about many dishes .He just doing formality & I will not be dining there again .
plz improve your service and trained ur staff.

Probably the best Indian Food you will find in Johannesburg at a fraction of the price you would pay elsewhere.... and you can do takeaways!
Mark Jacobsen
Had lunch with friends there last Friday and was very dissapointed with the Lamb Vindaloo which was very watery and pretty tasteless. Others in the party didn't seem to dissatisfied with their meals. The beers were decidedly warm and they ran out of my brand within 30 minutes of us arriving and despite there being a bottle store downstairs wouldn't go and replenish stocks. I will not be dining there again.

We have eaten here several times and have enjoyed it every time. We try to take friends each time we go and they have all raved over the food as well. Be prepared to wait for your meal because it is all made fresh.

Delicious Indian food! I've been several times since discovering this place a few months ago. If you enjoy Indian food you won't be disappointed.

Take away orders need to be checked when you collect as some items may be missing/incorrect. The food is good though. Well seasoned and fresh. Curries are mild, medium or hot - mild is basically no heat and medium can blow a hole in your skull so somewhere in between would be great.

Easy access for wheelchairs only if you park in the smaller parking lot to the right of the centre. However there is only one disabled bay available.
