I think Olives and Plates is the best catering company in South Africa.....because as long as its food and service under that name you'll never be disappointed......

We recently had our wedding at Olives and Plates. My now husband was a little reserved at first (getting married at Wits?), but really liked it when we visited and spoke to the staff. The first impressions of the big oak trees and Cape Dutch styled houses really impressed him. We wanted a "elegant picnic style" with no formal seating arrangements and people getting up and helping themselves to harvest style food. After the food tasting, Ross couldn't wait to get married there! WOW WOW WOW! The attention to detail, the receptiveness of the co-ordinator we had (Joseph - he's phenomenal) and owner (Andria - nothing was too much or too little), the food - I could go on. We went to them with an idea and they took it and ran with it - absolutely amazing to have that kind of personalised service (most other venues had set menus or you have to do this or that). NOTHING was ever too much - I wanted to do my own flowers the day before - staff on hand to help, coffee/drinks already on stand by... On the day, Joseph and his team were constantly at hand and sorted anything before it became an issue. And we frequently popped in just to show people (e.g. the photographer) this or that or check on something. We were ALWAYS welcomed with the biggest smile and hug with all the staff knowing exactly who we were. I really cannot rave enough about how amazing Olives and Plates were.

I hosted my bridal tea here for 26 people and it was perfect! The restaurant accommodated all my menu edits and allowed us to set up our own decor. The buffet and sitting tables were set up so beautifully. The food was divine! Service was excellent and overall the day was so seamless that I recommend Olives and Plates for an event that is frustration and worry free

I would not have expected to find an Olives and Plates at Wits, but it was still absolutely amazing. They had their standard table of desserts and an amazing outdoor area to sit and eat. It was relatively quiet for a weekend but I can see how it could get really busy on the weekdays. We ordered a myriad of dishes including the Turkish eggs which were super cute. I would definitely come back and try some other items off the menu because I know everything would be super tasty.

What a hidden gem! The food was exceptional, and portions are very generous. The venue has a lovely relaxed vibe. The staff were extremely helpful, patient, and entertained our strange requests 😊.

I had the pleasure of visiting for breakfast on Sunday morning. This is definitely one of the best restaurants to visit in Johannesburg. The seating outside in the garden is really great as it gives a sense of being out of the hustle and bustle of the city. The food never disappoints. the portion sizes are really good and the quality is always consistent of the highest standard. it is advisable to make a booking as there is always a waiting list.

The restaurant is situated at the Wits University. I went with my brother and we entered through the main university entrance, later we realized there is an easier way to access the restaurant which is directly off Empire road. The restaurant is at bottom part of the university and is partly indoor and partly outdoor. It is a really beautiful setting , surrounded by beautiful cape Dutch style buildings which are part of a university alumni club or something like that. Olives & Plates is a well known brand and they have a few locations including at the upmarket Hyde Park shopping center. The setting was 10/10. Service was slightly slow and it felt like I had to constantly get up to call the waiter when I needed something. It was relatively bush for a Wednesday lunch time. The food is brilliantly presented, decent portion size and great quality. I ordered the potato and carrot mash as a side to my grilled hake. I also asked for the small side salad, which really was a small side salad if a bit of lettuce and a few small tomatoes. I was genuinely shocked when we received the bill and realized that they charge R65 for this tiny side salad. Also R33 for a cold drink, and R90 for a piece of cake ; I understand it is a good restaurant but after seeing these prices on the bill it left me with a very horrible feeling to the extent that I felt ripped off and would be reluctant to return.

A group of 8 of us went for high tea to celebrate my birthday, but the service wasn’t that great. I just felt that the service could have been better, we kept on having to ask them to bring out the snacks and I ordered cake, which I ordered and paid for before hand, they took so long to bring it out, and we kept asking and no one told us why it was taking so long. There was clearly a communication gap between what was covered in the high tea fee and what was extra. Like the tea was covered but not the champagne, when we ordered more champagne, it should have been told. It actually came up to R800 pp including drinks, I feel that was steep.

Incredible food always 👌🏽, although the staff have become slightly less friendly & welcoming over the years.
