If you going to go for over basted food, drenched in sauce and full of unnessecary spices and even sushi on a Portuguese restaurant menu... this is not the place.
Perfectly prepared Português food - made with fresh ingredients, great portions and Great Português wine. Really recommend their prawns and Chocos. The Marianna White wine was delicious too!
Love coming here to get my portuguese fix! Perfect for a family lunch! Love the clams (ameijoas) , fried quails, prawns, bacalhau à braz (when available) , rump steak topped with egg. You have to order the thin circles of potato as a side with your main - they are the best! Biscuit cake and a coffee for dessert, you won't be disappointed!!!
This is my favorite Portuguese restaurant!!!! Jorge and his team provide excellent real authentic Portuguese food that you would struggle to find any where else!
Great place. Went with visitor from Lisbon. He was super impressed. Called it authentic Portuguese home cooking. Best giblets & clams I've ever had. My prawns were a little tough & dry. Overcooked I think. My guest found his monk fish too firm but delicious flavour. Service was on the inattentive side. Otherwise would have given it too marks
The best way to kick off a Test match at Ellis Park is lunch at O'Braseiro.
Nothing fancy just good old fashioned Portuguese food.
The decor is sparse as you would want it to be. The food is some of the best Portuguese you will find in Johannesburg. The menu has really typical regional offerings - tripe etc
However if you want great giblets chicken livers this is the place to go. Hot bread rolls with a delightful peri- peri sauce are offered as a complimentary dish.
For mains we ordered rump Espetada / fillet steak grilled and topped with ham and egg / trinchado rump steak cubes stir fried in garlic and white wine and kingklip fillet. All absolutely divine.
Washed down with Vinho Verde.
Good authentic Portuguese restaurant. Spacious and not crammed in like sardines ( pardon the pun ) at other places pre Ellis Park.
One of the more authentic Portuguese restaurants in Johannesburg . What's good about this restaurant is that they have about 5 daily specials to choose from every day for lunch and this is when you can experience Portuguese cuisine besides the normal prawns, espetada and peri peri chicken. Good food and the service is efficient. Music and dancing on a Friday and Saturday evening.
Delicious Portuguese restaurant that is Kensington's hidden gem! The food is mouth-watering, the deserts decadent, and service is good. Homey-feel perfect to bring the whole family along, definitely worth the find!
Excellent real Portuguese food service always good
Friendly owners
Prawns are super tasty
Lamb always tender off the bone
Desserts real Portuguese way
Real Portuguese food and good Portuguese food.
Nice atmosphere and good service.
Value for money. Good food at a good price.
Free wi-fi, just ask one of the waiters for the password. They have a smokers bar.
Overall a lovely place for Sunday lunch, but be advised that the kitchen closes at 3 on a Sunday. The starter platter was one of the best I've had, especially the giblets. I had the crab curry which was both fun to eat (with a bib and Nut cracker to break shells) and delicious, as was my boyfriends picahna steak. However my dad's prawns were rather dry but still tasty. Definitely Worth a visit, and make sure to have the creme brule!
Good Portuguese food. It’s very authentic. The staff are kind and the owners are Portuguese. Good place to take the family.
Convivial atmosphere with acute attention to quality by the owners! Excellent tasty meals and and extensive bill of faire for all tastes. Excellent value for money
We didn't even take any photos, but the food was amazing. We had garlic snails for starters and shared 2 seafood platters between 5 people for mains, and it was sufficient (3 ladies, 2 men).
The service was efficient, and the food was delicious. Fresh seafood that is super affordable for what you get.
We had 3 desserts, they didn't have the coffee mousse that we wanted, so we ordered a creme brulee, rice pudding & condensed milk cake (kind of like a creme caramel/baked custard situation). If you don’t like citrus, don't order any of these 🤣 I enjoyed the creme brulee and rice pudding the most.
We had 2 bottles of wine, 2 sparking waters and 2 beers.
A note - make a reservation! It was full.
Lunch
Our waiter, Passmore, was a very good host.
The meals were tasty.
Don't expect fancy plating, the emphasis is on the authenticity of the meal.
The prawn curry was very tasty, but very mild.
I would like to go back for the chicken.
We were mid-shift, so it was understandably quiet. Despite that, we lackednothing.
My steak was cooked to rare perfection, and my Wife's Prawn Curry was sublime.
Service was attentive, with excellent suggestions.
Again, our experience was top class. Please try the Pecanha steak, you will not be disappointed. Naturally, the sea food platter is out of this world with generous portions and garlic butter. The dessert was very enjoyable. The waitress understood our orders and is experienced in dealing with patrons. The owners are in attendance and are friendly. Safe parking is appreciated.
Excellent service from kitchen staff, waiting staff and management. Had a function with 24 guests, separate bills allowed, hot food served to everyone. 10/10 well done!
Superb food. Authentic Portuguese food. Excellent service. Not only friendly but prompt. A gem of a place! 10 out of 10.
Ordered prawns and they were overcooked and cold. A friend sent their chicken back as it was overcooked too.
Love their Portuguese cuisine. Their staff is friendly and I get to have one of my favourite desserts, Malatoff🙂.
