Cresthill Cafe is a strange place to visit. It is like the old Cafes of yesteryear. Kind of dingy, needs a paint job, I would say what we would call a "dive". BUT. it is a wonderful experience eating there. We ate inside where there are only about 4 tables! Outside there were smokers. In fact my friend was not happy and wanted to leave but I had heard about their Hot Beef on Rye and we stayed. 3 of us ate there and the service and food was outstanding. We had nostalgic feelings for the old days of cafes and we could talk to each other without having to scream and shout! The Hot Beef on Rye lived up to it's reputation and was delicious as were the chips. My friend loved the coffee. The waiter was a super guy, tentative and the service was quick. We had a wonderful lunch there, great food, great service and different for a change to the big, busy, noisy places in the area one usually eats at. Highly recommended but just don't judge this book by it's cover!
Quick convenient for snack and drinks. Do yourself a favor and grab a coffee and a Hot Beef on Rye sandwich absolutely heavily!!
The best hot beef on rye in Johannesburg, good service and prices. The original method of hot brisket on rye, a generous portion. Other restaurants serve modern versions but this is the original. Well worth visiting no matter how far you have to travel!
