We enjoyed the tapas style starters, in particular the crispy pork belly. The smoked brisket was also really good. The service was open and friendly. When my husband complained about the egg on his steak, it was immediately whisked away and shortly replaced with a perfect one. Upon mentioning that his rump steak was not as tender as it should be, the manager promptly appeared, apologized profusely, said it would be followed up with their supplier, also insisting on making another meal for free, which wasn't necessary, and in the end taking it off our bill! We had a great time, food was good, drinks galore to choose from, even the kids was sorted. The only let down of the evening was the cigarette smoke filling the whole restaurant - but this is a pub after all, so this is to be expected. Overall a good place for meeting friends to watch the game with drinks and a bite to eat.

Food is delicious, not the usual mediocre pub fare, prices are reasonable, and the staff are super friendly and helpful. I also watch rugby here on my own fairly regularly and always feel completely safe as a woman on my own. Always a great atmosphere for the game.

Have been here a couple of times now. It is a real brewhouse-pub type of place. Lovely upper deck to enjoy the sunsets, and plenty tables and chairs downstairs both inside and out. Good vibe, cool music, but it gets busy.<br/><br/>These guys get the award for the best-ever starters: Crispy bacon stack and Crispy Pork Belly - it cannot be beaten with a cold beer and good company.<br/><br/>This is a real pub-meal eating experience - by no means "fine dining" - but for good pub food, good vibe, great service - hard to beat. <br/><br/>Gets an unusually good rating from me for overall experience in spite of being a franchise and a pub.

Craft beer and a smoker , good recipe for success . I had the eisbein which was decent size and well cooked . The crispy skin and mash was really gud . The brisket burger is huge , packed full of brisket . The chips and slaw were very avg . The burger is gud but very rich . The popper are tasty little burst of chilli and cheese . They also do a 500g burger which looks awesome , maybe on my next visit .

A Monday night and limited steakhouses open saw us heading to hogshead.... ambiance is as all pubs should be, loud and a lot of laughter. Desperate for a good steak I ordered the ladies fillet and salad.... steak was medium rare and not my usual rare, pity as it was tasty.... salad was good and a decent portion, but the dressing let it down... my word the sauce I had with the steak was incredible... I think it was called nduna, brandy, mushroom, cheese and something else... just too little. My man opted for their rib steak combo with veggies... all of which was outstanding.... brilliant evening with the best company and an awesome meal

I enjoy Hogshead as a vibe, I just however, have not had the same luck with my meal. I ordered the beef cheese burger, it looked fabulous, but, once I bit into it- it was raw. I was very displeased. I enjoyed the onion rings and the chips were also very good, but my burger was a let down. Come on guys, you know you can do better. My mom and dad had the chicken burger and we're much happier with their results. Waiter was friendly enough, but could have checked on us a little more frequently. Love. Jambo.

This is one of those places where people always want to come and I just cannot understand why!<br/><br/>Their food isn't bad but the service is so bad. I feel for the waiters on those crazy busy night when service is just non-existent but I've gone twice at a quieter time now and they still don't seem to manage. Some drinks are reasonably priced and others overpriced.<br/><br/>A plus for them is that they do have a reasonable amount of vegetarian options for a pub and the atmosphere here can also be quite good.

Hogshead has an awesome pub vibe and was a great way to celebrate a friend's birthday on Saturday. We grabbed some dinner and everyone was happy with their meals. <br/><br/>My boyfriend had a normal hogshead burger which he said was good but lacked sauce. I ordered the open brisket sandwich which was a really large portion, and the brisket was delicious. The bread however was drowned out by the meat, and quite soggy when I eventually got to it. Oh and their chips are really good as well. It's a great place to meet up with friends and have a good meal and a couple of drinks.

We went on Saturday to Higshead for a friends birthday! What a lovely time we had, they had a good wine list and I was able to have my favorite wine - Beyerskloof Pinotage. And my fiance looked very happy with the craft beer selection! <br/>We arrived at about 3 and the place had such a nice vibe! We had burgers and chips that was so delicious for "bar food" once the place started filling up the waiters who has been very effective started losing control over all the tables, but although the services dipped when it got busy, we had a great evening and will definitely return!

The ribs are absolutely awesome. I have tried them for the 3rd time (once in Douglasdale and twice at Rock Cottage) and it is definitely good quality ribs, however at RC the ribs were definitely warmed up and not as smokey as my previous experience... The smokehouse ribs are the best. A great place to relax, have a drink or two and watch the sport. However the bartender's need some serious customer service training. Spontaneous outing on a Friday night led me to this place that I had been wanting to try for a while now given how it's been in the handpicked collections time and time again. Friday night atmosphere really busy in the restaurant, music playing out loud. Decor quite nice. Had the sophisticated bar kind of feel to it but not the kind of place I would ever go to. I want feeling too adventurous so I just ordered 2 burgers, the Original Hogshead Burger and a Double Double Burger. Nothing to write home about. Burgers lacked flavour. Fries were greasy and very slap. But their decor is quite nice.

This is a really awesome spot for a quick drink or two. We are really spoilt for choices with their craft beer on tap and theres always a great vibe to it. Theres ample seating on the top deck, outside, inside around the bar. I have only had their trinchado starter and this was creamy, packed with flavor and a good portion, but i can tell you the beers and cocktail are absolutely delish. The waiters are friendly and efficient. This is a great bar for a relaxed vibe.

For a few drinks with some friends this is a goodie , the atmosphere is buzzing! The Pub Grub on the other hand was a little disappointing. The menu is quite big and looks a little confused - are they doing pub style food or trying to go for a more of a steakhouse vibe? I would chop down the menu and go for either one or the other. It is not possible for anyone to prepare all of those food options well. Their burgers are good, a little dry and could do with a some more sauce but the rest of their food falls short especially when it comes to their "Chef's Specialties". The Zesty Lemon Fried Chicken was quite a let down. The service was very slow and the wait we had for our food and bill were too long. Overall this is good watering hole and after a few too many drinks I don't think you'll be paying too much attention to the food anyway.

Thoroughly enjoyed my experience at this Hogs Head. Came to celebrate my mom's birthday and because it was her birthday they gave us Cherry Slammer shooters on the house. We then ordered Jalepeno Slammers which were absolutely delicious. Our mains were, Beef Prego Roll with mash, the mash was super creamy and the beef tender. My mom had the Thai Beef Salad which she said was amazing and my dad had the Beef Briskit Burger which he said was absolutely delicious and said he would order it again and again. The service was absolutely great and all in all a really great time. Will definitely come back here soon.

Went to Hogshead for the Smokehouse meat and Craft Beer and stumbled on a Brufest. <br/>The promoters were out in full force with give aways and the vibe was great. I had the smoked brisket to get a sense of a smoked steak. It was absolutely brilliant. I also tasted the beef salad, niiiise. The highlight was the service from Prisca and her promoting the Hogshead brew and house beer mug to take home. Great craft beer served with brilliantly smoked meat by wonderful staff and management. <br/>Like Schwazenegger said 'I will be back! '

Hogshead Rock Cottage was a pleasant surprise. I originally avoided it thinking that it would be too young. I was happy to be proved wrong. The energy and atmosphere was great and you could still have a conversation without screaming. I had a Pulled Pork burger and will definitely return for another one one. I will say that as a vegeterian/pescaterian I am disappointed in the menu option for me as their was not much choice vegetable wise or fish wise was very minimal. The best pub in and around Randburg by far, the bar staff are always quick and friendly. I go there regularly to catch a big game on their big screen, the food is really good, they have a wide range of local, and craft beers, all round a good place to go and enjoy a few and one of the more friendly pubs around. We enjoyed the 1kg ribs at this place however the brisket special that I wanted was out of stock. I then settled for the rump which was cooked according to my taste. Whilst eating the rump we were told of a great steak from Botswana which we 'should have' tried. It wasn't recommend until my steak had arrived. I didn't enjoy the creamed spinach served with my steak. My partners chips looked yummy. <br/><br/>Overall it was a decent meal

They still stock excellent food and drinks, but if you're going to his a Hogshead, this one is only best if you're with a large enough group of people to require the extra space available.

Even for pub food this was below par. The none smoking section felt small and cramped which was a disappointment as the place look big from the outside. The pulled pork was bland even though it was smoked. Went there wanting to try out the smokehouse and we did and it was nothing special sad to say. The service was ok, just ok!!!

I come here all the time after work! It's a little loud but that atmosphere is great when you want to wind down from a busy day at work. Although a little pricey (If you go there twice a week), the staff make the place because they are so friendly. Lastly their food is to die for. I always have the mini sliders

Nice setting and definitely one of the places to be on a Friday afternoon after work.One thing offsetting as a non smoker, why do the smokers have the best area in the place?Good craft beer on tap and large selection of beers are available.Food is good and average priced.

All I can say is, those burgers tho..... Probably one of the best places to have an outstanding but BIG burger. Had a great outing with the family and everyone enjoyed the service, meals and drinks. Food was absolutely unique and wonderful.

The new specials menu is awesome. We tried a starter and a main and were very impressed. The kids menu is also appreciated. Huge portions for hungry people or those that will eat left overs for lunch tomorrow. Keep up the good food.

Hogshead is a great place to visit. Atmosphere is alive. Drinks selection is awesome. Shooter girls are awesome. Cocktail menu and beer selection also awesome. Burgers are incredible .so if you want to unwind with friends visit them and enjoy and be assured youll have fun and be well fed and wont be thirsty.

So if you're looking for a place to grab a few drinks, I'd recommend Hogshead. However if you get hungry, you're better off at McDonald's. We ordered their smoked platter for two, which came with exactly two smoked wings, two burnt pork riblets, 3 tiny beef strips and a handful of chips, with 4 onion rings on the side. Besides the onion rings not much else was enjoyable.

If you like loud, blaring music at 6pm on a weekday night - then visit the Hogshead. And make sure you sit on the covered patio, non-smoking side. It's like being in a very very bad night club. Horrible, loud, music blaring from the speakers.<br/><br/>Our waitress, Princess, was really good.<br/><br/>Hein had the Smokehouse burger - smoked pulled pork and cheese, it was good.<br/><br/>I had the 600g smoked pork ribs - really tasty! And their chips are yummy!<br/><br/>What a pity ... we won't ever be back. I adooore music, but really, loud blaring music at 6pm on a Monday in a pub/bistro? Not on.

We ordered 3 burgers And all of them were good. We had the hogshead extreme and original. Hogshead The burgers came a bit too cooked but otherwise were done awesome. The relish, mushroom sauce was great. The buns are homemade and good. Chips were good and well salted. Overall great experience and the waiters were around just enough. Btw the onion rings are amazing!!!!

I didn't even know that Hogsheads served food until recently, I always thought it was just a very popular bar. Their pizzas are quite enjoyable, even though they are quite heavy handed with the garlic. They have a very thin base, and you can tell that they use a wood fire oven.<br/><br/>The staff are very friendly, and they also have private rooms for birthday parties and other events.
