Perfect for a catch up drink with some friends, news cafe has some pretty cool and interesting looking cocktails whilst offering a fair variety of shots. The vibe here is cool however the service definitely needs work. Besides that I enjoy coming to this outlet.
The only reason I am giving 3.5 is it feels like a club, so I don't associate food with it, however, .... probabley the best Mac and cheese with spicy beef I EVER had.... an empty bowl tells a lot.... 5 stars for food....
Cocktails speak of uniqueness and encourages more investigation. New menu adds to diversification of flavour and brings and an experience rather than normal dining .
A regular at this fine establishment, I was pleasantly surprised by the willingness of the management to accommodate us for a birthday party for a disabled person. The manager was very friendly, honest and helpful, it really does make planning a surprise party so much more easy. The vibe is relaxed and waiters are on point. They were always nearby and delivered the drinks and food very quickly. On a general note, they have a generous breakfast on offer at at good price, their rush hour special is packed but you never wait long for service. I have yet to try their lunch special, but judging from the all round experience, I can only deem it to be delicious.
This is the closest News Cafe to me and really I go here for the drinks and vibe more than I do for the food. Nothing wrong with the food but the vibe on a Friday and Saturday night doesn't call for a sit in dinner. Try their Long Island ice tea of course
This particular News Cafe has been a long time favourite. The menu has something for everyone and while the price of food may seem expensive at first it is completely justified when you see the portion sizes. The food is always fresh, visually appealing and very tasty.
The Chicken Caesar salad is one of my favourite meals, it is always crisp and covered with toppings. Definitely try one of their quirky yet delicious cocktails (these are a little expensive though) or shooters.
Overall we always enjoy our time, meals and service here although sometimes it can be a little slow.
Always busy and vibey over the weekend. News atmosphere. Free WiFi. Drinks are expensive especially the cocktails. Have always had good service there. Breakfast special daily until noon.
I have been here a few timea for social a f business meetings. I muat admit that the recent upgrade has made the restaurant look a little more inviting. The food is tasty, I find that the wraps are tasty and filing. I usually order a salad with it in stead of fries and that is always nice and fresh. They have a vast drink menu that you can chose from and their Cupacinnos are great. So yeah? It's certainly worth the work out
This is a trendy, young and vibey place, it stays true to the News Cafe culture of great cocktails! The music and Dj's are fantastic especially on Wednesday nights and last Friday of the month. It's probably one of the only buzzing places in the south so if u are around there don't waste time looking for a place, just move straight to News Cafe. The food is of good quality and enjoyable and the service is great!
This news cafe is always quite vibey, they offer a wide range of cocktails which are always a hit in my books. I love ordering the Faithful Bitch and the Strawberry Supernova. The first one comes with a little sweet wrapped on a swizzle stick which is probably the only reason why I order it. The restaurant is busy on Wednesday nights and Friday nights and is the most popular place to go out at night in the south of Johannesburg.
The food is also great quality, their crisp chips are covered in a spicy salt which sets them apart from other places.
The venue is great and the brand is one of the best, except for the very poor service we experienced from 2 alternate waitresses, who seem to have forgotten why they were on duty on this particular day....completely ignoring or forgetting about our order, then taking forever to deliver it, then deliver incomplete items of our order, making promises to rectify then disappear for lengthy times until twice I stood up to make follow up enquiries. This happened repeatedly during our visit.
The bad service rendered really spoiled what was supposed to be our "fun time outing" at this place. What really is of concern is the fact that, the place was not busy at all. You could count only a few tables occupied - in both inside and outside seating areas.
Is this happening because of poor leadership or lack of good customer service training ?
NEWS CAFE MEYERSDAL has just been revamped and looks absolutely stunning!!! We decided to go for dinner last night and the food was delicious and the staff were all so friendly and attentive. Loving the revamp. 😍

Service - Mixed feelings. We booked a table 5 days in advance for 18 people last Sat to watch the rugby match. The Fri before, we called in to extend the table by another 4 seats. When we arrived on Sat it was a total disaster, a very rude waitress shouted out that we called to cancel our reservation despite us saying that the call was not a cancelation but a request for more seats. She continued shouting until the two bouncers at the door directed her to stop arguing with the customer and to sort out the tables! The Manager arrived and went out of his way to fix the mess on an extremely chaotic evening. Half of our group ended up being seated outside but, still had a good view of the big screen, so no complaints.
Thank you stax to the three gentlemen that assisted that evening, and for allowing our many kids (outside of the club/bar area) to witness the awesome match and Bok magic, they will remember the night for years to come!!

Centre Security - Sorry but terrible. When we left just before midnight, we noticed our Fortuner had been broken into. Window broken, storage compartment and door panel ripped out. These guys had plenty time to fiddle with a vehicle parked 3 bays next to the entrance, in a centre that has a security guard and boom gate!! Not blaming News Cafe for the incident, but no cameras and a very lax security guard? I'm sure more can be done to secure the premises. Please.
Lovely ambience, great service and friendly staff. We didn't eat but definitely would consider going back to taste their food.
We had a late breakfast, which was excellent.
My first time back since the renovations, and what a positive difference.

Now this place is a nice place if you want to chill out with some friends and have a fabulous time. The vibe is great. The music is awesome. The service is good. The prices aren't too expensive. Im looking forward to my next visit. Thanks. Will be back soon. :)
