Review Just Teddy - Johannesburg

Enjoyed the overall experience here, the staff is very friendly. Thank you Afro for hosting us and for your patience with us. We were here for our bookclub meeting. The food took a bit long but we were a big group so it's understandable. Loved the presentation of the food, and the signature dish (prawn and chorizo pasta) was definitely 👌 delicious 😋. Teddy is very down to Earth. Thank you for such a lovely place.

I had booked the high tea for 3 of us. I must say the revamp of the decor is mindblowing. The scent is that of a spa very relaxing and calming. We were shown to our table. The ladies are very attentive and very friendly. We're given a starter of falafel and yogurt with zaatar and mimosas. Next, they brought out the mezze platters and sweet treats. We're given a run-through of what was served, and I must say, for the price, the food was a lot. We ordered the veg option of the high tea and were spoiled for choice. There was so much leftover. There was a special "Happy Birthday" surprise of a cup cake and song. The ambiance is definitely nothing short of regality. I truly appreciate the high level of service and attention to detail. Edit (08/11/2023): I've since returned to Just Teddy by invitation from Teddy and can confidently change my reviews rating. The experience the second time round was great ! Food was prepared well and this time had the flavours which was missing the first time around . My first time it seems was just a bad day , seems even great restaurants have them as well. My take away from this experience , is that you should at least try the place twice if the first time was not a great experience , but give it a month or so later before you return for the redo experience . We are all only human . I'd strongly recommend giving this restaurant a go , you will not regret it !! ************* Original Review ********************** I visited on the 17th , we were quite excited to go, having not been there before. We placed our drinks orders , our waiter was very attentive and friendly , giving service with a smile. My Scarlett Chai was made really well. I ordered the Luxury Scramble, which was well prepared , but the Scramble egg didn't have much of a flavor , unless it was by design and the rest of the dish would provide the flavor. A little disappointing though. Since the menu said it was their "renowned Scramble eggs" . My wife ordered the Eggs Benedict. She enjoyed it. However, the macaroons we ordered afterward were not great at all. It was more like eating a very sweet tart . I love macaroons. I've had them from many places all around the world . With this been voted best patisserie in 2022 I was expecting it to be great . Sadly not. To this day, the best ones I've tasted were in Switzerland made by Lindt. The Scarlett Chai was not very good the second time around, neither was my wife's Rooibos Cuppucinno . It seems to be a consistency issue here. For the price they charge they should not let this happen. Not sure I'll try this branch again.

Absolutely amazing place to eat. Great atmosphere, waiters are friendly with quick service. Food was tasty and reasonably priced and the bakery treats are world class. Highly recommended.

Very really is a place recommended and turns out to surpass one's expectations. Great coffee and the food seriously good. Most importantly we got value for money. Will definitely go back.

The high tea is absolutely amazing! Way too much to eat in one sitting( thank goodness for takeaways). The staff are friendly and always waiting to assist you. They have a great selection of teas and coffees, food and best of all their pastries.

I booked the high tea experience and what a beautiful time we had! Complimentary mimomas on arrival were great. Everything was fresh, well prepared and so delicious. The scones were soft and fresh and the strawberry jam was so good! The pastries and sandwiches were super fresh and yummy. The sweets were delicious, we definitely enjoyed those treats for sure. For drinks we had the chocolate mint truffle tea which smelled like chocolate but tasted like mint rooibos tea. Also had the oreo avalanche, which is like a hot chocolate that has oreo in it and topped with whipped cream - that was amazing, I have never had anything like that. The experience was great, everyone is so attentive and making sure that you’re comfortable and happy. Will definitely be back

Wonderful experience and the waitresses are so friendly. Our favorite was Abigail who gave us exceptional service. The pasta we had was delicious and was a good portion.

Edit - We visited Just Teddy for breakfast on a Sunday and the food was not tasty or well-presented. In fact, it looked completely different to the previous times we were there. They were out of stock of pretty much every cake on the menu (this happens often) and the service was slow. We did not have a good experience. Seems like they struggle with consistency. The “luxury” ingredient was missing... The porcini dust, we had to ask for it and sprinkle it on top of the cold eggs. This is not acceptable when you are paying R140.00 for basically plain scrambled eggs. The photos that complement this review are from our first experience, very different to the subsequent ones. **** Original review: I had wanted to visit Just Teddy for a long time, and I finally went there for brunch. What a great idea! The food was lovely - we enjoyed the set-up, comfortable seating, and warm atmosphere... it makes you forget you are sitting on the lower ground inside a shopping centre. The menu caters for a broad audience, including those who enjoy savoury and sweet dishes. The service can be a bit slow, as the staff could be more proactive, but the food and a little patience make up for the slight delays. I can't wait to go back!

Lovley experience! We created our own high tea with a mix of goodies and they were delicious. Some were too sweet for our palette but good in general. The ambience is okay although it's in a mall...so probably a stop over after some shopping. Service is okay.

Been here a quite a few times and really enjoyed it. But ordered 2 x fillet breakfasts and was really disappointed. The fillet was tough and unpleasant to eat and also not cooked through evenly. Fillet should melt in your mouth and should be easy to cut with a knife.I even asked the waiter if he is sure that it is actual fillet. The waiter was friendly and apologised but never asked to remake it. Update - Thank you Jeff for reaching out to me, it really shows you care about your customers and your business. Had a great experience yesterday, food and service was excellent. Have to mention Albert and Wayne as their service was superb. Thank you once again and will definitely be back soon.

Amazing, fresh and tasty food. Nice atmosphere if you go at the right time. Very busy on weekends. Good artisan teas. Would recommend the famous toasted cheese.

As usual, Just Teddy never disappoints. My lovely waitress Wendy arranged special veg meals and even made my sons very bland pasta look pretty … my go to when you feeling for a chilli cheese toasty 💕

Teddy is the best talented baker I have ever come across. The difference between Teddy and other bakers are that Teddy can bake anything, from wedding cakes, cookies, French pastries, local South African koeksisters, bread you name it. I don't think there isn't anything he can't bake. And the way he packages and decorates his products, is just the cherry on the cake (no pun intended) Watch out for Teddy, this baker is taking baking to a new level �� ��

We booked high tea here during the Gauteng Opera performance on Saturday evening. Everything was so beautifully set up and we had a table right in front. The food was absolutely delicious and there was so much of it, we even had to take some of it home. Thank you for a wonderful evening with delicious food.

I booked a baby shower high tea for my sister-in-law and it was a complete pleasure planning my function with the Just Teddy team. It was great value for money and Ted arranged everything including the balloons and flowers for me so all I had to do was show up and enjoy it. We had an 18th birthday celebration yesterday. What an amazing experience. So much more than I ever anticipated. Such lovely people, always ready to jump in and make an already awesome event even easier. Was a treat to sit back and relax and just be caught up in the moment.
