Review 47 On Grant - Johannesburg

Red Cappuccino
Excellent service with incredibly tasty food!!
Ebrahim Jogee
Food was fantastic. Turkish food with a south African twist. The restaurant is owner managed and it shows. The meals are well prepared and staff are well trained. They know the menu very well and make inightful suggestions. Service was great. The atmosphere is wonderful. There is a small courtyard at the back outside which is really nice in the evenings. A bit on the pricey side but well worth it. It gets busy so best make a booking if you intend going
SAEEDAH BATTAY

One of the most authentic Turkish cuisines out there this south of the Equator ♥️ 10/10

Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Halaal Turkish food that is thoroughly original and authentic. No alcohol served but incredible Turkish teas.

Excellent Turkish food, a bit pricey but portions are rather large. The atmosphere is great and management and staff are friendly and accommodating. It's great for large groups.

Good to be alive and enjoy my life at this place

Really cosy and attentive staff. Food was also tasty. Ordered the grill platter. More than enough for the 2 of us. An ideal place to visit if you would like a quiet spot to talk, but not far from the action.

We came here on a Friday night and was surprised to see how empty it was. We were served Turkish tea on arrival, which was a very nice touch but didn’t taste like much.

We went straight to mains and ordered the lamb sheesh and chicken pirizola, which each came with 3 salads (/dips), flat breads and rice.

The food was nice but nothing special. However, the baklava for dessert was delicious!!!
Eagle Expat
Excellent food let down by staff who can't really explain the menu. Recommend the starters which are great. Lovely dips. Below par staff. Will advise some coaching on the menu.

What a little gem! A cosy restaurant, ideal for long dinners with friends, which is what we did! The food is fantastic - turkish cuisine at it's best, with a variety of dishes to choose from. I would suggest that you go and try a few dishes - I personally really enjoyed the flatbreads with dips and spreads, and the lamb chops is delicious! This eatery doesn't serve or allow alcohol, but mockcocktails is so refreshing :) And of course, you must try the decadent desserts! Go and check it out :)

Mixed grill is the way to go as you get to sample the popular dishes the restaurant has to offer. Exotic tastes do not disappoint. Great service and fair waiting time for your meals.

A lovely little place where zahavas used to be. They've cleaned up the place nicely and the garden has been leveled and paved, and you don't have to worry about pigeons pooping on your plate.
The service is friendly and fast, and eager amd helpful.
We are greeted witg a complimentary tea, and offered a pipe but smoking is so last century. The tea is a nice touch.
Btw there's no liquor, religious reasons maybe? The mocktails appear to be well recieved.
But there is a nice vegetarian menu.
Each main comes with 3 salads, the salads are pretty varied, pineapple relish, pickled apple, tzatziki, humus, tabbouleh, banaganouche and some other things.. all nice.
Our table orders lamb sheesh, chicken sheesh, chicken wings, lamb chops, and the veg mussaka (sic).
It arrives swiftly, its all delicious. The lamb melts, the wings are beautifully crispy and moist. The mussaka is a little boring,it appears to be potatoes in tomato pulp, i dono, nicely seasoned though. Its all served with flatbreads, different to a la turka flatbreads, these are thinner and a lot less pancakey, i prefer turkas tbh.
I had mint apple tea for dessert, lovely, we also had baklava and ice cream, not my favourite, amd not amazing.
Its very affordable too, mains are about 100, qe ate for 5 at 150 a head.

Great food and service. Reasonably priced. Thanks Nadia and team. We will definitely be back! The lamb meatballs were spectacular - I think it was called Ezme Kofte.
Bob Van Mieghem
Genuine authentic Turkish/Lebanese middle Eastern food - we chose the mixed platter for 2 with 5 different salads and flatbread - recommended - pity no liquor license !
Rowan Mumford
Went here a couple of weeks ago for an early lunch, place was quiet. Decor is ok, could do with a bit a sprucing up to match the cuisine they serving. Some couches and bean bags would be good. Apart from the decor, the food was amazing😍, so fresh. Definitely recommend this place and I will be back.
YUM
The fair at 47 on Grant may be a little on the pricey side but it sure makes up for it in taste. We shared some mixed grills as well as the falafel and Cag Kebab. The falafel is phenomenal and as good as your get in Beirut. Kebabs and Kofte are the way to go here; deliciously succulent and perfectly spiced. The Cag was too much on the fatty side for us but we'll definitely be back for some of our mouth-watering favourites!

I would highly recommend popping in for something different in Joburg of quality. The owner here is very hands on and takes care of the restaurant. There is a wide selection of vegetarian items on the menu and something for everyone.

I would recommend trying their mains such as the moussaka and pumpkin curry. The salads and dips here are extremely fresh and tasty - you will find a few things here that you won't see at other restaurants such as watermelon and feta salad.

Most certainly, I will come back for another meal.
Saaleha Bhamjee
Booked a table for supper to celebrate a birthday.
The owner, Nadia, is wonderfully accommodating. She specially prepared fish curry for us. The fish wasn't the freshest but we enjoyed it.
We also had prawn curry. The prawn curry was very good. We especially enjoyed the side salads. The pineapple salsa and avocado and strawberry side were really good.
The children ordered the mixed grill platter with flatbread. The chicken was definitely the star of that platter.
I'd return for another meal.
Rob Whitlock
Cosy indoor/outdoor authentic Turkish venue. We all had lamb which was succulent and flavourful. The 10 different Turkish style side salads added exotic variety to our meal (3 per meal). Service was excellent both from the waitron and host. The traditional Turkish menu offers great value for money for well presented and prepared meals. No liquor is served but the Mocktails are really thirst quenching. We will certainly visit 47 on Grant again.

This quaint little restaurant on Norwood's main strip can be easily missed. 47 on Grant is a Turkish restaurant, a fusion of middle eastern flavours to awaken your palette.

We had the cumin chicken wings for starters. It's something that I wouldn't generally try but I'm glad I did. It was spiced to perfection, crispy on the outside & soft on the inside. Nadia, the owner tasted this on her travels to Turkey in a Chinese restaurant. She enjoyed it so much she had to recreate it & slap it on her menu.

For mains we had the Adana kebab, sheesh kebab, lamb pirizola (flame grilled lamb chops). All dishes are prepared fresh, meat marinated and then chargrilled.

A special mention goes to their Cag kebab, it's a must.

Nadia tries to prepare something that's not on the menu on Fridays. You might get a curry, biryani or something that you haven't even heard of. I'll definitely visit on a Friday soon to see what's cooking.

We didn't have any desserts this time around but their Turkish tea is a must.

Follow: @globe_muncher on Instagram for more foodie & travel stories. 47onGrant
Lovely meal- we had the mixed grill for 4 between 5 people. The portion was generous, and the meat was delicious. The salads (which are condiments like hummus and Tzitziki) made the meal interesting and were also delicious. A must try

We arrived early enough to be one of only 2 dining couples. As time went by, the crowds started coming in. Nadia welcomed us and we chose to sit in the outside area. It was dead quiet from an atmosphere perspective. Whispering seemed to be the right thing to do.
On arrival we were given complimentary turkish tea. It had a good flavor and was lovely to have. The haloumi starter was delicious. I had lamb sheesh and my wife had Peri peri chicken. Both were delicious. The lamb was well-cooked and tender. The chicken was soft and cooked to perfection. You have a choice of 3 salads and we opted for humus and tzitziki. I had the feta with melons and wife had avocado with strawberries. It was loaded with lemon and was rather sour. They were nice accompaniments to the meals.
I had a mojito to drink. It was loaded with lemon. It needed more mint in my opinion to balance the taste. We didn't have dessert. Waitress was friendly and our food arrived quickly.
Well worth a visit in my opinion.
R350 inclusive of tip for two people.
Great variety of lamb dishes which is rarely found in and around Johannesburg, one disappointment the Turkish delight drink was not available on the night, will be back to try it out!

Noteworthy taste explosion. So absolutely divine. Every meal woke up my senses from starter to main meal & dessert. Waitress was lovely as well

Slight problem with the outdoor seating during winter months, basically a scarcity of heaters. Otherwise friendly staff, good service, nice food, but my lamb chop was a bit bony. Will eat there again, probably during warmer weather.
Deshanya Naidoo
My family and I love the food here! The meat is incredibly succulent and well prepared. A variety of salads are given all of which are made with fresh ingredients. The service is a bit slow and the restaurant is always quiet however more people should definitely try it out!
Mumtaz Moosa Saley
Excellent service as the times I visited we were in a large group. Service is really amazing and they go the extra mile to ensure your dining experience is one for the memory books. We recently went out on a mums night out and we enjoyed the service. The food is scrupulously delicious and the portions are well served. The salads are what stands out.
Kalli Spencer
Well this a unique experience in the heart of Norwood. U are welcomed with Turkish Tea. Get to taste their lamb spit. Tender and succulent. I had the lamb meatballs with Flatbread and a choice of 3 unique salads. All to the accompaniment of traidtional music. Well worth a try if you looking for something completely different.
The Great Diner
Quaint little spot on the busy Grant Avenue. Lack-lustre service. Manager/owner also very uninterested, just sitting at the counter chatting on her phone. Nothing amazing with the flavours, have had many a tastier kebab before. And very pricey for what you get.
Sumayya Khan
Had the pleasure to be surprised with dinner here for my birthday. Must indicate that everything was superb here.

The venue is a cosy restaurant with warm furnishings. Light fittings to the furniture was Turkish themed. Service was very warm and personalized with owner Nadia personally attending to patrons and sharing details of the menu.

Waitrons were friendly and polite. But most importantly, the food was amazingly delicious and was served promptly. We opted for the mixed platter for 2 and added peri peri chicken.this can with 7 fresh salads and flat bread. The mixed grill come in a variation of spiced bits and different levels of pungency. But all in all they were delicious. Turkish tea was served on arrival. At no charge. There was room for patrons to celebrate any occasion and we were welcome to bring our own cake and have a cake cutting and singing. Highly recommended to anyone who want a cosy small restaurant with reasonably priced , fresh and tasty food. No alcohol served and it's strictly Halaal .Try it you won't be disappointed.

Been meaning to visit this place for a while from all the great reviews & I'm glad we finally did. Struggled a bit to find it though. On arrival we were given delicious turkish tea which warmed us up, our waitress was lovely, she took us through the menu & gave us recommendations. We ended up ordering peri peri chicken, mix grill for four & the most delicious prawn curry I've ever tasted, the food came with delicious side salads which were fresh, my favourite being the avo & strawberry.

Was struggling to decide where to eat last night & then we came across this restaurant and I must say, what a great experience we had. The food was to die for, the service was excellent & our waitress was so charming. We had the mix grill for 2, the meat was succulent & tender, we loved the outside ambiance & we ofcourse had to have the hookah which was a nice way to end our evening. My husband loved the Mocktail called Moscow mule, couldn't stop raving about it.
Zafoodie Foodie
Mouth-watering food but they are let down by the area they are in or their neighbours- I don't know what it is. But there way too many flies buzzing around you as you try to eat making for an extremely unpleasant experience. Which is unfortunate because their food is exceptional. Doubt we will be returning.
Sharima Bramannan
The first time I drove passed here, I didn't like the look on the outside so didn't stop. After seeing fantastic reviews of the place, I had to return. And I was so impressed with the food. We went with a mixed grill for two people...lamb & chicken pirzoli, Adana kebabs, chicken sheesh, luffa, rice, 5 salads and flat breads...so much food and so flavourful...the meat was all soft and had a really good flavour. Had cannoli's for dessert which was also really good.
Kristina Kozak
Absolutely loved this spot and coming from a similar cuisine background I was very pleasantly surprised and my taste buds satisfied. The lamb is a must try but careful some portions are more than enough for two

For all this time, 47 on Grant has been known for their Turkish food. Expect to see traditional meat and vegetarian items on their menu, rounded off with a selection of Turkish-inspired desserts and tea or coffee.

However, move over, there's a standout menu on the rise, and I had the pleasure of experiencing it this evening.

We got a tip-off that Nadia is known for her traditional cooking, and that always gets me excited. Here's what I thought about the menu and experience.

How to order:
1. Call your request in at least a day before. The Prawn and Fish Curry is not on the menu (yet), neither is the Mediterranean Fish. Be absolutely sure about going in as Nadia needs to purchase and prepare the curry base for your meal.

2. We advise that you give her an approximate weight of the fish that you'd prefer; for example, when I bake a whole Kabeljou at home, I usually order 2 x 1kg fish (feeds 2 adults + 4 children). A 1kg portion is too little for us, and a 2kg portion leaves leftovers. We recommend asking Nadia for a 1.8kg fish (thereabout) if you're ordering a curry as well.

3. Leave out the portion of chips as the roasted vegetable on the board goes well with the fish. It is also served with rice and a herbed sauce.

4. Request rice and flatbread (perhaps Nadia can look into serving roti alongside the curries) with your Prawn curry. She can also do a Fish curry on request.

5. The mocktails were overly sweet and the glasses were half-filled with ice. I'd give it a skip and order a soda instead. The flavour combinations were nice though; Cucumber and Ginger and a Turkish Delight (Rose).

6. Don't skip dessert and order an Apple Mint Turkish tea. We had the warm Baklava (3 mini portions in one serving) with a bowl of vanilla ice-cream.

P.S the board was so big that I couldn't fit it all in one picture!

What did we think about the overall experience:
We were 2 adults and 4 children dining out. Our total bill came to R1300 with drinks and dessert.

We recommend that you enquire on the weight and price of the fish when booking. The food was outstanding. The curry was well spiced and the kids enjoyed the fish as it was simple, natural flavours.

I felt that sitting away from the kitchen meant more privacy. In the warmer months, you have a choice to sit in the quaint courtyard outside at the back.
The Food Musketeer
11.03.2017 I finally made the trip to try this Turkish fusion food and I must say I was impressed.

It's in the heart of the foodie strip in Norwood with simple yet effective decor. It has a small outside eating area but we decided to stay indoors as it was much cooler. On arrival we were served some Turkish tea by our friendly waitress, the tea was nicer than i anticipated. Being halal the restaurant doesn't serve any alcohol, but we tried some of the yummy mocktails on offer. I had the Moscow mule, and we also ordered the "Lavender & Elderflower" and the Ginger and Cucumber Daiquiri. Definitely quenched the thirst.

As for starters we ordered the falafel to share. The aroma when it arrived was amazing. Crispy, crunchy and full of flavour and dunked in the dip just added that extra touch.

For mains we decided not to have the Cag Kebab even though that's the main highlight here on weekends. I wanted something spicy so I took the Adana Kebab, my sis had the Corby soup ( lamb and lentils), and my friend had the Patlican Sheesh. My kebabs were perfectly spicy. It definitely had kick. It was served with flat bread and 3 of their salad options which I could pick as well as rice. I just wished the kebabs were slightly larger in size. The soup was warm and hearty. The salads were great we took a variety - watermelon and feta, hummus, mango salad, tsatziki, some tomato one and one which had eggplant in sadly that was the only one we didn't like. But we devoured the rest. At this point we were rather stuffed so decided not to try desserts.

I would definitely like to go back and try the lamb chops and desserts on my return. Great place for meat lovers.
Dino
Finally got to try out 47 on Grant after driving past for months and being curious about the newly opened restaurant. We arrived early and sat outside in the courtyard which could be so much better with a bit of sprucing up. We felt a bit intruded on because there appear to be people living in the rooms next to where you sit so they come and go whilst you sit, it's a bit unnerving and "random". This, being a Turkish restaurant, doesn't have a liquor license so there is no wine list to speak of obviously. We ordered the oven bread with a few dips and although the bread was rather insipid the portion was generous and the dips were tasty. For mains we tried the lamb on the spit which was really delicious (only served weekends), as well as the shish kebab and a rolled flatbread stuffed with cubed lamb and smothered in a tomato type sauce. The lamb inside was rock hard and definitely not freshly cooked and this was our least favourite dish. A nice touch is that you can order three side salads per main course and each one is a kaleidoscope of freshness brimming with flavour. There weren't many options for dessert so we skipped the course being well fed by then. We've been to Turkey and expected a few more Turkish type options, even though this is "turkish fusion". Overall it was a good meal and we will probably return, but it does need some refinement.
Debbie
A hidden gem. The decor was very minimalist. Very chilled atmosphere. The food menu is interesting with a variety of Turkish fusion meals to choose from. We had the cobra (lamb and lentil) soup and felafel to start. Both were delicious. For mains we decide to try the Mix for 2 - a platter of lamb and chicken options. The meat was tender, tasty, spicy and well-flavoured. This was accompanied by 5 sides/salads. Portions were generous and could have easily fed 3 people. We also enjoyed the mocktails - absolutely delicious! We ended the meal with the most divine baklava and complimentary Turkish tea.
Lloyd Loots
On arrival, some authentic Turkish Tea is a lovely refreshment to enjoy as you are seated & have a look at the menu. Fresh Homemade Baba Ganoush appetizer with a warm pita bread just fills that little hungry spot that you have after the long day out. Roasted on the fire & not burnt on the gas grill as one would usually prepare it traditionally.
Cmd.marli
Loved the food. Proper authentic.
The mix platter is a must have, especially great to share. Service was great, the waiter even brought us tasters from the cag kibabi on the fire. Definitely a local favourite. Keep a spot open for Baklava and ice cream 😉
Vanessa Kroeger
Great spot on Grant avenue, Norwood. The food is fresh and tasty. We particularly enjoy the lamb and lentil soup (has a bite), Chicken Sheesh and Turkish tea.
Vidhya Naidoo
Tasty food, well seasoned..however...value for money - not sure!
R95 for the Adana kebab in my opinion is pricey - 2 x skewers of minced meat + lettuce, rice, salad/hummus & a thin flat bread.
Feel like there's better value & varieties of condiments at Istanbul restaurant.
Also had the lamb & lentil soup which was hearty and tasty and the lamb Kebabs which was tasty but the cuts of meat offered in the soup and skewers were sinewy and chewy/fatty. Flat bread was decent, abit too thin for my liking, almost crispy tortilla like, not soft/fluffy/chewy
Great ambience though, lovely mocktails.
Still would choose Istanbul for better Turkish food experience ✌🏼️

After hearing about this restaurant for a while, I finally got there. The decor is simple but the Turkish lights are exquisite. We had the Adana Kebab, Iskender Kebab and Chicken Pirzola. I loved the very unique presentation of the Iskender Kebab. The other dishes were good too but the meat portions were a bit small for the price. My favourite though was the beautiful selection of Middle Eastern starters that we were presented with (see pic).
JoziStyle
When asked, I usually tell people that I don't have a favourite restaurant, because inevitably I get invited to so many that they all start to look and taste the same, and also being a foodie presenter on radio it is a professional liability to publicly endorse one above the other, or worse i risk offending my friends who are chefs or restaurateurs, BUT, I will say that 47 ON Grant - Turkish Fusion in Norwood was my favourite discovery in 2017.

Their food is real food. Natural flavours speak for themselves with minimal interference in the kitchen, presentation is literally as it lands on the plate. I find their authenticity quiet refreshing in a world where every ingredient is reconstituted beyond recognition. Their tapas / salads are glorious as starters or accompaniments to a main meal.

As far as accompaniments, I've never been sold on the watermelon & feta combo, so that's a personal preference, but you can't go wrong with with their tahini, hummus or guacamole. Their ezme starter (tomato & pomegranate) starter was a revelation for me - especially considering that I don't like tomatoes, because it had the freshness of raw tomatoes with the texture of a cooked tomato sauce. I was embarrassed after telling Nadia Sha, owner of 47 ON Grant, that it would not appeal to me, when she saw that it was the starter that I had finished the quickest and the fastest. The Baba Ganoush is the one must-have dish to try - either as a starter or as an accompaniment. It is roasted over a fire (not burnt on a gas grill) and is infused with a delicious smokiness.

The Corba Soup is a mystery to me, made with lamb & lentils, it has an rustic earthiness to it with a beguiling symphony of spices. I couldn't identify any of the spices except cumin - but being a Turkish restaurant, that was only a thumb-suck on my part. Nadia did give me a breakdown of the thirty spices that she used to make her soup, but I'm not sharing. The Corba Soup is a definite winner in my opinion.

For mains, the Cag Kebab is the epitome of what 47 ON Grant’s cuisine is about. It’s marinated lamb grilled on an open fire – it is succulent, smokey tenderness on a kebab stick. I don’t think I have ever tasted lamb as good, nor will I ever again, until I return to 47 ON Grant. The Lamb Sheesh, Chicken Sheesh, Adana Kebab and Lamb Pirzola will leave you equally impressed.

But, rather than choosing an individual dish, order one of their mixed platters that give you a taste of everything – and you’ll get a choice of five starters with your meal. It will be a truly epic culinary feast that will transport you to the somewhere in Mediterranean – it is a Turkish fusion restaurant.

47 ON Grant is Halal, so don’t expect to be served alcohol, but their very sophisticated selection of mocktails will make you forget that you’re not drinking alcohol. Ironically, for a Muslim owned restaurant, it was my Jewish friends who recommended it.

47 ON Grant was my best dining discovery in 2016, I hope you will make it yours in 2017!
Carien Jakovljevic
We were here today hoping to have Iskender and Turkish tea and coffee (an institution for us since our honeymoon in Turkey). They didn't have Turkish Coffee and they don't have the proper Turkish grilled meat during the week - this is only done over the weekends. The Turkish tea we had was good, the service was a bit off - I will assume it was a temp waitress for the holiday period as she didn't know the menu or know how the meat is cooked. The manageress / owner (not sure what she was) did however come to us and explained that they only do the proper meat during the weekends so as to keep everything fresh and ensure the highest quality - she was lovely. It would however be helpful to maybe put this on Zomato or on the online menu. Will update my review once we have the opportunity to go over the weekend.

I attended @47ongrant in Norwood the other day, an amazing sweet little gem of a Turkish restaurant, with the most amazing food!
Go check them out, the food is to DIE for! #LeoLoves #foodie #sarestaurants #zomato

The last time I had Turkish food…was in Turkey… and it was underwhelming to say the least, usually bland, dry meat kebabs with a pile of chips.. So I was a little apprehensive when I was invited to try out 47 on Grant, a new turkish fusion restaurant in Norwood, as I was expecting much of the same. I was pleasantly proved wrong by the end of the evening!

We were met by the very bubbly and passionate owner, Nadia Sha who has brought together different flavours from the middle east and Turkey to create a unique dining experience at her restaurant.

We ordered apple mint tea and started off with haloumi, flat bread and baba ganoush. The flavours of the roasted brinjals mixed with the creamy tangy tahini of the baba ganoush was amazing and I could eat bucketloads of this!

Mains were Adana kebabs (very spicy lamb skewers) and Iskender. I would highly recommend the Iskender – spiced lamb rolled in bread and basted with a delicious pepper paste, grilled on the open fire. Each main comes with a flatbread and your choice of three sides. Refreshingly – no pile of chips as a side! Instead a selection of salads and dips such as the traditional tzatziki, hummus, tahini, ganoush but also interesting seasonal combinations such a watermelon and feta or avocoado and strawberries.

There are mocktails and desserts on offer too – I had a ginger and cucumber daiquiri and a really beautiful coconut covered icecream ball drizzled with chocolate. They also have traditional turkish tea and apple mint tea.

47 on Grant can be described in one word: Generous.

Generous and sincere delight that you came to visit this Hallaal restaurant. Generous deeply spiritual peace with smiles. Generous excitement at explaining dishes and excitement at doing so. Generous sharing in "how to" (drink Turkish coffee as if I would know!) and generous portions of food, especially flat bread and salads!

47 on Grant is located in the heart of Norwood. While the entrance is on the street, there is ample parking around the corner. The restaurant is a jump on the magic carpet as it opens onto the back of the restaurant to a delightful open air area with soft light. It really is such a gentle, almost sacred space. I loved it before I ate anything!

Nadia is a humble but effective and efficient hostess and servers are well trained. There is no cutting corners. Nadia is clearly passionate about her offering and it shows. I noticed that she checked each dish before it was served.

I had a lamb kebab, unlike anything I've had before, cooked outside on an open flame. Surprisingly as I finished the one meat serving, a second appeared. It was delicious. Crispy, thin slices.

I do not drink large amounts of alcohol, so being a Halaal restaurant that does not serve alcohol made no difference to me. The "mock" tails came in a wide variety. Fresh and crisp.

While my dessert was inventive and different, mozzarella inside a thin pastry, deep fried with a sweet sugar sauce with ice cream, I did not enjoy it as much as I hoped I would. I also tried a Turkish traditional cake which was light with ice cream. It was ok, but did not deliver for me on the overall experience.

If you are looking for an intimate dinner, romantic in the city, head for 47 On Grant and sit outside. Be open to experience new flavours and experience a different kind of dining.

Thank you for the opportunity to dine in style with #DineJoziStyle47 once more Edward Chamberlain-Bell It is always an honour for Dion Kruger and I to be included.

With sincere gratitude I would like to acknowledge 47 On Grant whom sponsored the dinner in full, in exchange for a genuine, truthful, impartial and honest review from Wenchy 💜

This little hidden Turkish restaurant on the popular Norwood strip is a welcome addition to the neighborhood's ever growing food culture! I came here for dinner on a Wednesday night, and the place was packed. Luckily there was still one table for 2 available.

We ordered the chicken and lamb sheesh, which comes with a variety of salads. Hummus, avocado, tzatziki etc. The meal was also served with delicious traditional flatbread. Another item we chose was the grilled halloumi.

Our food turned out amazing. The chicken was tender and had a good smokey flavour. All the accompaniments were fresh and tasted great. The halloumi was one of the best I have ever tasted in Johannesburg. Portion sizes were generous, but not over the top.

Also, the meal was fantastic value for money. If you want to drink something, you may have to take your own, as they don't have a liquor license.

Oh wow - Turkish Fusion of epic culinary enjoyment proportions. Joined a group of fellow foodies for an amazing night out and have to say this is certainly a gem of a place.

Tucked away amongst the bustling nightlife of Norwood, stepping inside is like stepping in to an authentic Turkish restaurant, with beautiful glass lights and a cute little courtyard with lamb being cooked on an open fire - talk about fresh meat!

I arrived a little late and missed the starter platter, but quickly caught up with the rest of the group on the Mocktails, which are the order of the day, and are super delicious - as 47 on Grant is fully halaal so no alcohol is served on the premises.

Main courses at the table were varied and received much praise - my Chicken Sheesh was delicious and came served with rice. We got a big platter of sides to add to our meals, as well as a pile of fresh flat breads to mop everything up.

Other diners enjoyed the Cag Kebab (two of them straight off the fire), the Iskender (spiced lamb wrapped in a flat bread and toasted with pepper sauce), Lamb Pirzola (yummy lamb chops) and loads more.

Sides included hummus, tatziki, tahini, baba ganoush, watermelon and feta mix and a host of yummy tomato relishes.

A variety of Turkish tea's, coffee's and juices are on the menu, as well as the usual soft drinks and waters.

A wholly enjoyable night out - highly recommended.

47 on grant is pretty hard to find on the bustling Grant avenue in Norwood. But this place is such a treat once you get there! It has a wonderful ambiance , especially in the outdoor seating section. We were greeted with some lovely Turkish tea. 3 of us ordered the lamb cubes and eggplant which was enjoyed by everyone. My boyfriend got the rotisserie lamb and he enjoyed it very much. The flat breads that came alongside the meal were lovely. In terms of the sides , we were told they would bring a selection for the table (the menu says you can choose 3)
Having tasted them all , next time I will insist on getting the ones I like best : the tatziki , the babaganoush and the watermelon and feta salads are such winners. Wish I had more of those and less of the others.
Service was great and our waitress was very attentive and answered all our questions about menu items.
The one area I felt was a let down was dessert . I got the kiwi sorbet and everyone else got baklava. The kiwi sorbet was interesting but nothing special. And the baklava slice portions were very small.

Wow what a gem. Had to visit after spending some time in Turkey.

Forgive me Turkey but the fusion food on offer here, along with the SA lamb has me thinking this may just be the best Turkish food I've ever eaten.

As you walk into 47 on Grant, its hard not to feel like you are in eastern Europe with it interiors, lighting and ambiance. I arrived yesterday afternoon and as it was a lovely day, opted to sit outside in their intimate courtyard.

A very, relaxed afternoon feast ensued and I got a Turkish education on fresh herbs, cooking traditions, herbal teas and how important only the freshest ingredients are to making Nadia's restaurant an overwhelming success with the community in which she operates.
She uses strict halaal principles and the highest standard of cleanliness with a lot of care and attention to detail that is hard to miss.

Onto the food... Think lamb, chicken, and beef with rich individual flavours with the particularly impressive Cag Kebab (marinated rotating lamb) that is the only one in the country! Chicken sheesh, chicken pirzola, Patrician sheesh, Iskender.. I could hardly move when I left yesterday but due to the fact that nothing is fried, these dishes are not in fact very heavy. All mains come with three (3) salad and a flatbread which is an additional value-add.

*Recommendation: 47 on Grant is a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Norwood. Excellent value-for-money and a delicious Turkish journey worth taking.

This quaint and authentic Turkish hub is something different! The food is tasty. Each dish comes with a side of amazing Turkish bread and your choice of tasty salads. The owner and staff are very friendly and welcoming and do their best to accommodate you. Sitting in the courtyard feels like you are in a different country. Upon arrival you are a given a taste of authentic Turkish tea. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We popped in on a whim on a very busy night and were lucky to get a table outside. Our waitress was so friendly and informative, it was seriously the best service I've ever had. I had the Sri Lankan pumpkin curry which was a little underwhelming but I think that's more a matter of personal preference. I did however enjoy the salads that come with every main. My boyfriend had the kebab special and they were kind enough to offer him extra kebabs as his portions were a little small. If you enjoy Turkish food, you will love this little place.

Absolutely delicious! Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for a leisurely sunday lunch. Will definitely be returning to this lowkey, hidden spot.

Great service and tasty authentic cuisine! A must-try experience for anything from casual dining to the more discerning palate. Rotisserie lamb kebab was a great choice.

Despite the pokey location, 47 on Grant is a hidden gem with fantastic service. Not only is the food authentic and tasty, but you can absolutely tell that it's prepared with care. We started off the evening in the back courtyard with a glass of traditional Turkish apple tea (which tastes like a mild and slightly sweet green tea) and then shared a variety of the main dishes, followed by a buttery sweet baclava. (All delicious) I highly recommend the flattened chicken legs in particular- they were charred and seasoned to perfection. I would definitely come back to this lovely spot, and if you are a fan of middle eastern/Mediterranean cuisine, you should try it too.

I'm not a fan of authentic Turkish food and so I was quite hesitant to try out this spot. My husband insisted however and we arrived for an early supper one day. We were the only patrons initially but to myself surprise the small little restaurant filled up quite a bit as the night progressed. The restaurant decor is very nondescript and there wasn't really much ambience. We ordered a starter soup and a mixed grill which came with a side of five different salads that you could select from the salad bar. The food is as the name suggests, a fusion of Turkish food and cooking styles with spices from Indian cuisine. It was excellent. The lentil and lamb soup was hot and spicy and the mixed grill didn't disappoint, the portion was generous and the meat was very tasty. I really recommend this place, it's a hidden gem.

The name of this spot does not do it enough justice! It should be Frikkin Awesome Turkish Fusion!!

Dinner with some friends became a really great evening with nothing to fault from the food or service.

Upon arrival, you are greeted with a complimentary Turkish tea and a tantalizing sliver of the lamb that was rotating next to the fire. Great way to welcome guests.

Most of us ordered the Cag Kebab, which was the specialty. Slices of the rotating lamb, with cous cous, flatbread and a choice of 3 salads. The combination of the salads alone could serve as an awesome meal.

I chose the tzatziki, a pomegranate and coriander mix, and something with bulgar wheat, which all tasted amazing! The lamb was perfectly cooked and the whole meal was a feast for the eyes, and stomach!

Walked in for lunch and was not very busy , we were greeted by all staff , very friendly. Sat outside in the courtyard , where they had a rack of lamb on an open wood fired rotisserie. We sat down and the guy operating the rotisserie came and gave us samples of the lamb , I was sold and ordered the dish that came with 2 skewers , 3 salads and some flat bread , the lamb was crispy , succulent and very tasty , some of the best lamb I've tasted. the service was slow but very pleasant.

Visited twice in 3 days because the foods that good! Had the Tuesday special which is 1kg lamb chops for R180. This meal has to be shared, the lamb is excellent quality and very well prepared. Free turkish tea which tastes divine. Cozy restaurant with friendly hosts that make you feel at home. Enjoyable experience.

Had a meat platter for lunch excellent except for the lamb chops - they need to trim the fat of lamb.Had lunch outside in a relaxed and quaint setting away from bustle of busy grant road. Vegan Mussaca was tasty and so was the freshly made flat bread. Delicious Turkish coffee and tea. Missed the Turkish delight chocolate mousse. Mm. An excellent venue for a relaxed, delicious family meal.

Nice to have a great Turkish restaurant this side of things. Food was delicious, fresh, and great quality! Very personal touch. Food didn't take long and all food came at the same time as it should (but doesn't happen at many places of late. Looking forward to going back!

Charming venue, in the heart of Norwood. Outdoor seating was cosy if a little dark, but I didn't mind that at all. Busy place, but spacious and relaxed.
We chose the platter to get a little bit of everything, and also the special lamb on the spit.
Service was excellent. Friendly, but not overbearing. The owner herself makes sure she interacts with the clientèle and ensures there are no questions.
Food was excellent, and authentic with nice flavours and Turkish sides were fresh and varied. Portions are just a little smallish for the price but we didn't leave hungry and I think that is a trend nowdays towards quality over quantity.
Overall a great experience and a nice evening out. Will definitely be back.

Most delicious Turkish meal in Jozi. Appreciated the knowledge shared about the choices of dishes. Nadia, the hostess was extremely warm and most welcoming. Loved it.

Last night we decided to treat ourselves to Turkish cuisine.
We battled to find the restaurant at first as the signage was not clearly marked.
On entering we were warmly welcomed and taken to our table in the courtyard. The lighting in the courtyard was extremely dim and a nuisance when reading the menu and when our food arrived.
The selection was adequate and before long we were sipping on Turkish tea and enjoying the platter for two, despite the poor lighting.
The Turkish food was good and all my favourites were on the platter. Humus, baba ganoush, watermelon and feta, Israeli cucumber, lamb, kafta and chicken.
Would I go again, probably not, as it was on the pricey side. Platter for two R390 and no alcohol allowed.

Yay! Thrilled that this place is listed on Zomato so that I can now review it! We ate here last week after it had only been open for 3 weeks and we were so impressed! Service was warm and hospitable. The food was absolutely outstanding - 2 of us shared a platter so we got to taste a variety of different things, including different salads. All the meat and chicken is cooked on an open fire - nothing is heavy and you don't get up feeling like you can't move. It's all just tasty and delicious. The complimentary Turkish tea with sugar cubes was a lovely finish at the end of the meal. Note that no alcohol is served here and also it's cash only (not sure if that's going to be permanent). The owner Nadia is a charming hostess and loved to chat to her guest. I highly recommend a visit here!

Different and delicious food. Really enjoyed the chicken pirzalo and lamb pirzalo

Very friendly, warm and helpful owner.

Waitress a bit difficult about the side salads and wouldn't let each person choose which ones they wanted. But she did accommodate us later in the evening by bringing us lots of extra (and delicious) tzatziki.

Overall a great experience. Delicious food and excellent value for money. Will definitely be back soon.
