Lal Qila is like entering a majestic palace with the combination of a luxury vibe and majestic food. The quality of the food and service is something 7 star hotels should take into consideration to alter and match Lal Qila levels. Eid here feels like being surrounded in an authentic indian or pakistani eid celebration. I love it here and lll surely be back for the greatness you serve on the plate and outside the plate for us. Thank you so much, everyone must give this place a try.
Having just returned from a 10 day holiday at the hotel I only say it is he best I have ever had in johannesburg in the past twentt years. The staff were helpful, polite, efficient always with a smile. From reception staff, restaurant staff, room staff they all carried out their duties in an excellent manner. We only had breakfast in the hotel but I could not fault it in any way.
Made a booking for a graduation function for 35 people on Sunday. Incredible service, management was great as well as the waiters. The food was amazing. Everyone was happy.
It was a wonderful experience. Food was great. Atmosphere wonderful. Our waiter Prince was awesome. I will go here again.
It was my mums birthday and I loved the singer who did the happy birthday
A firm favorite.
The Haleem was delicious. The fried crumb coated prawn was nice. Beef in pepper sauce was excellent. Pizza was hot! The kids loved the pasta and dessert station.
The food in general, no matter what dish you have, is tasty. The grilled meat and flat breads are my favorite.
Sojee was dripping in oil. Tasty, but not friendly for the heart.
Desserts:
Kheer was absolutely fantastic. Waffle was crispy. Falooda I will stay away from. Not nice at all. The ice cream used on the waffle is average. It says Gelitalia but I'm not so sure. Either their standards have dropped or it is kept too long in the freezer hence the ice crystals. Ice cream straws were delicious.
Staff are excellent! Our 'waiter' was friendly and courteous.
Always worth a visit. We do not come too frequently as buffet menu changes very slightly.
But for r200 (I think) per adult you get access to over 70 different dishes. Come hungry! Really hungry!
Buffet heaven! Close to Oriental Plaza, in Fordsburg, you find this fabulous restaurant! It's on the same premises as the Palm Continental Hotel (4 stars) and has ample safe parking.
Outside are comfy couches and chairs (although in the sun), but with the rustling of the palms you expect a camel to pass by.
At the entrance of the restaurant are not only 1, but 2 cake displays! And goodness, what a display. This is separate from the buffet.
Inside decor is cosy, opulent and staff is attentive and friendly. When you go for a Saturday or Sunday lunch buffet (at R165 per person), go around 1 o' clock. Any earlier and they are still preparing the food.
On each table is a 'call the waiter' 'gadget' - and it works.
The buffet ... I won't call it a Curry Buffet as such ... since there are other dishes too. They boast that there are about 70 dishes ... including the condiments.
Starting on the one side, there were egg-fried-rice, a creamy chicken dish, Alfredo pasta, mini chicken hamburgers and chips.
The naan station was probably my favourite! They have this kettle with a fire inside - they then place the raw circle of dough inside the kettle against the side ... it was phenomenal! They have 2 different kinds of naan.
Mini chicken kebabs, rice, breyani, curry beef, curry chicken, chickpea curry were all waiting for you to dish up. A grill station had grilled meat and chicken pieces.
The dessert station had a quite a few different kinds of yoghurt-inspired desserts! There was also fresh fruit, a creme caramel flan, a chocolate mousse and a dark chocolate mousse cake.
I do believe a soda fountain is included in the price. The Mango Lassi was delicious.
This is really a fantastic place to meet friends and have a leisurely lunch! There's something for everyone and every single bite was just flavorsome and yum!
I'm usually not a fan of buffet style meals but this was an exception. The food was delicious and the variety kept things interesting. I tried to taste everything on offer but the selection was so big it wasn't possible. I enjoyed their beef green pepper and the butter chicken was perfect. Their chickpea curry was also delicious. There were some interesting salads available as well. The naan and paratha station was a bit slow at times which can be frustrating but it's worth the wait for fresh Naan. The only down side was the dessert station which was appalling. Stay away!
The Mayfair / Fordsburg area and Johannesburg in general has been rather lacking in strictly halaal upmarket restaurants. Lal Qila has filled the Mayfair gap although it is not in the greatest of locations. It is part of the new Palm Continental hotel complex. The restaurant decor is reminiscent of upmarket restaurants in the Middle East and India. The cuisine is North Indian and is served as buffet only - think tandooris, beryanis, creamy chicken dishes etc. There's a huge variety of starters, mains and desserts. Make sure you go hungry as you will want to try almost everything out.
