Review The Perfect Cup - Johannesburg

Tiisetso
Lovely new location next to the tennis courts. Was initially disappointed to not find them in the usual spot thinking this another COVID closure but this is a massive improvement. Right across the road you can’t miss them. The perfect home for the perfect cup. There is cover should it rain and on a sunny Saturday morning in the winter the cold matters not. And of course the coffee is great. Dogs are welcome, there are two plug points, and believe there may even be Wifi.

Such a quaint little spot hidden next to the tennis courts. The coffee is really good (4/5) and the chocolate croissants are unreal with proper Nutella inside! Just a laid back vibe with friendly staff. I love that they have little treats (like zoo biscuits), a bowl of water for dog's and even doggie treats. Best coffee on Tyrone Avenue and new favourite spot in the Parks.

The Perfect Cup. The best coffee in Johannesburg. Located at Shop 15, Parkview Centre, 54 Tyrone Ave, Parkview. The Perfect Cup offers breakfast, sandwiches, light meals, Cappuccino, cakes and desserts. Their menu is affordable and nutritious. This place is beautiful and what I love about this place is the love of the community. It's a community based place. Their friendly and incredible staff. Definitely will come back soon for Cappuccino. Definitely the perfect cup. Also you can now order for delivery or pickup from The Perfect Cup using the MyChef Food App (link on bio).

This place was such a pleasant find!! The best creamy mushrooms on toast in Johannesburg. Great coffee with an in-house roastery. Highly recommended, especially for breakfast and lunch.

A great place for coffee and a croissant or muffin. Tucked away next to the tennis court it's a good find for a quick cuppa. Staff are great.

I was treated to breakfast and a sweet treat. What a nice setting and trendy setup. The place looked very inviting and charming. What a good selection of food - I ended up ordering the following :- Half Breakfast which consisted of the following 1 egg, 2 rashers of bacon, tomato, toast and jam. Delicious – the plate was clean no need to wash 😊 The sweet treat order was a Bar One Banana & Ice Cream pancake. Pancakes were super soft, fluffy and melt in mouth pancakes. Truly delicious - Loved it. Overall a decent pocket-friendly place serving a good range of tasty savoury and sweet treats with a decent menu for full eating. Will for sure visit them again!

Best coffee in town! This hidden parkview gem provides the most incredible service as well as utterly delicious wholesome homestyle like meals! Don’t leave without ordering your freshly roasted bag of coffee!
Caroline
Fabulous attentive service with fantastic coffee and amazing tusks. Give it a try you won’t regret it
Bad service. Ordered a pancake that took 20+ minutes and then I cancelled as it wasnt very busy.. manager blamed it on uber eats . Read that its a good place to visit but rather go elsewhere. Worst coffee ever. 107 for a biscuit, orange juice and a coffee. The online menu was alot cheaper, I suggest it gets updated.
This is one of my favourite places in Joburg. The Perfect Cup is an intimate, cosy home away from home. The team are like a family and it is run in a personal way with every customer coming in being welcomed into its gentle, relaxed vibe. The coffee is a well-rounded, mellow, warm-noted, delicious hug in a cup. The menu has a selection of simple breakfast, sarmies, the famous jaffles, delicious cakes and pancakes to die for. The only downside is that there aren't any gluten free options, but the food available is home made and delish. There is live jazz on Saturday mornings, and it's just a fave hang out where you will see lots of lovely faces. The owner, Mich, is warm and wonderful and makes everyone feel right at home. Do yourself a favour and go hang out at the Perfect Cup :)

I went for breakfast at the perfect Cup and the atmosphere is nice and the service is good. The staff are friendly and Owner hands on very good and nice to see food is good and fresh .Will most definitely be back. Well done keep it up.

The Perfect Cup has had a special place in my heart since childhood, the space is warm and welcoming with beautiful coffee aromas. A family favourite for us is their chocolate cake which we regularly buy; my sister also loves their iced coffee.

Most recently my mum and I went for lunch and I was left a little disappointed. They don't have any options for vegetarians other than a toasted sandwich/jaffle. I was really excited about the jaffle so I had plain cheese one. It was good. They also don't have any sauces or chilli. I'm not sure why they can't add even one vegetarian option to their lunch menu.

Overall, charming coffee shop but lacking in quality of food. I'd recommend sticking to their coffees and cakes.
Cuppycake
A few friends and i popped in at this cute little coffee shop just the other afternoon, all i can say is this place is a hidden gem! I had an iced coffee followed by a slice of carrot cake, it was probably the best carrot cake i have ever tasted in a long time. Will definately be back!

The is my go to pancake spot!
However, this does not take away anything from the rest of the menu. The full and half breakfast are tasty, filling and always good quality. The menu is small, but everything on it is a hit.

The cafe itself is adorable and on weekends there is usually live music to enjoy. The staff is young and friendly, but very eager to please and have been well trained.

There is usually fresh cakes and sweets but the star is true pancakes. I always have the apple cream and cinnamon pancake, but the savory ones are just as delicious.

The coffee is another highlight. They have beautiful cappuccinos usually served with a tiny short bread cookie. A large array of coffee beans for sale separately is another great feature of this stunning spot.
If you have not given the perfect cup a try, you are missing out!

This is a lovely spot for a breakfast or coffee. Their was a two man band playing which was really lovely. The service was also good and friendly.

I ate the half sized breakfast which was a perfect size for me. We also shared a pancake which was lovely. They have a good coffee offering, it's definitely worth a visit!

My husband and I went for coffee late on a Saturday morning. Unfortunately the kitchen was already closed so we could only have drinks.

We had two delicious cuppacino's and although the shop was now closed, the staff grinded some coffee beans for my husband to take home.

Staff was very friendly and apologetic that the kitchen had already closed.

Only one thing that always bugs me.... When the tables get cleared and stacked while I am still sitting there.

Will visit again !
"'n Regte ou-tannie-koek, toebroodjie-en-tee tipe plek." The atmosphere is lacking and the decor tasteless. Nevertheless, I can confirm word on the street that they offer a very good variety of freshly roasted coffee.
Lia Marus
This restaurant has been going for the best part of 20 years - and there's a good reason for this. Their flavoured coffees are to die-for and the vibe on a Saturday morning for breakfast is great. Service is a little slow.
Ralph Hohls
Lovely little spot with a smooth, relaxing ambiance. and the coffee is very good.
The savoury cheese, chilli and sweetcorn muffins are world-class!
Not to forget the Fletcher breakfast includes a relish which rounds off the whole breakfast experience deliciously.

Wi-fi works well. They have Snapscan for payment convenience.

Staff are also very friendly, competent and attentive.
Jonathan Jacobs
An off-the-cuff breakfast decision swayed by a coffee addiction made The Perfect Cup sound more attractive than it turned out to be.

The coffee was good, well above average, but by no means "perfect". (Father Coffee in Braamfontein is still Joburg's crowning achievement of coffee.) I had a plain English breakfast, which is average everywhere, but the menu did not provide much variety in this regard. I saw lots of crepes being ordered, the SO very nearly ordered one; perhaps the better choice?
Mellisoo
Their simplicity is the appeal.

We were looking for a breakfast place to try this weekend and the SO being the (more serious) coffee lover stumbled across this place on Zomato. We figured it was worth a shot.

I was a little annoyed by the number of waitresses who didn't seem to know what they were doing, but I guess things were getting done so my dislike for directionless staff can be shelved for now.

I ordered a simple breakfast, the Easy Toast with bacon, it was ok. I looked around the room at other patrons and there were crepes (pancakes) on nearly every other table. Queue the food envy, and the realization that I'd messed up. I'm going to try them again, and I'll definitely be having the pancakes.

Oh, and the coffee wasn't bad.
Nix
The zomato rating swayed us to try out the perfect cup. Our overall experience was disappointing. The food was average and rather tasteless. The coffee however was good and the staff were friendly. The free pancakes and coffee probably have a lot to do with high rating.

What a beautiful little gem. I loved the quirky decorations and homely feel. Sweet pretty waitress, who was very patient with my loquacious granny. We had breakfast and coffee. Delicious
Yolanda Robinson
Delicious coffee... And a great variety of different blends, which you can purchase to take home, they can also grind it for you which I really appreciated! The music gives it a relaxed vibe and it's was overall an amazing experience! Thanx for excellent service!
Arjun Sinha
The name pretty much sums it up. Great coffee, well roasted and a nice variety of both blends and single origin beans available to purchase.

Unfortunately we had arrived for breakfast and discovered the menu is very limited. They had the very basics for breakfast and it was all 'average' in taste and presentation. Its clear that their strengths are in coffee, so focus on providing good coffee and just good coffee. At the max, introduce pastries in addition to the pancakes.

Often I find small places like this take on more than they can handle and thus hurt the overall experience. My suggestion is focus more on your strengths (excellent coffee) and scrap the average breakfast and average sandwiches. Keep serving those pancakes and add a fresh selection of pastries, tarts, cakes etc to compliment your coffee.
Kate Parker
Lovely cafe with a intimate, cosy vibe. The light jazz playing outside gives a wonderful and relaxed feeling. The staff is very friendly but service was a little bit slow. Their breakfast menu was quite limited and I can't say the food was anything special. I liked the atmosphere more than anything but wouldn't go for anything besides a quick coffee. It has a lot of potential.
Dilip.1962
The pancakes are delicious as are the Jaffles. The coffee on terms of variety and taste is superb.
Shannon Richardson
A stunning little coffee shop tucked away in a little corner of Parkview. A great little place to sit and have coffee and pancakes with friends. Perfect to cheer a person up on an overcast day.
Catherine Riley
A lovely venue, perfect and quaint to relax and enjoy the warm ambiance. The service was lovely warm and very efficient. Perfect coffee and pancakes in this weather. I could sit and work here all day long.
Paul
The place is relaxed, friendly service and great mellow jazz playing outside. Where else would you want to be on a Saturday morning? This will be my regular haunt from now on.
Johan Van Noordwyk
Brilliant coffee, brilliant vibe and brilliant food combined with excellent service made for a perfect Saturday morning breakfast stop.

A true gem in the heart of JHB.
Carol Steyn
Lovely lovely place, really quaint, good food, excellent coffee, owner run which makes it extra special, our favourite new Saturday haunt
Julia Louise Domanski
This cosy cafe will transport you to the old cities of Europe. With its tantalising aromas of roast coffee beans and lemon and sugar pancakes, it is "comfort" in the form of a real place. All of the coffee is divine and the "jaffals", a unique kind of toasted sandwich, are beyond yummy. HIGHLY recommend The Perfect Cup for a lazy Saturday morning or a quick coffee with a friend on a workday morning.
Carmen
AMAZING food, coffee and wonderful staff! A true gem in the heart of Parkview. Love it!
Richard Warren-Tangney
Oh wow! My BFF Nicky has refused for many years to tell me about her "secret coffee spot" and now I understand why! I hesitated to write a review, but was overcome by the free coffee and cinnamon pancake for a Zomato review ;-) Not that, that has swayed my comments...

Stunning cappuccino made from beans roasted on-site, and available for purchase, a ham and cheese jaffle made with REAL cheese (not processed pseudo-cheese), an ambience second to none (think vovo telo before it sold out) and friendly waiting staff, all tucked away in a hidden piece of Parkview. Forgive the mauled cappuccino picture : I couldn't help myself and had tucked in before I remembered to take one!

Available and free wifi seals the deal for me and so I quite simply have found my new home from home...

Out of all the coffee shops in the country that I have been to I would say this is probably the most unique (even though very small) but with the biggest heart. It is a family run business which has been reworked into a very well thought out coffee shop / cafe.

Enjoy a fresh pancake with a great cup of freshly ground coffee from a choice of about 30 different fragrances and flavours!
Bjorn Briggs
Perfect cup is the best cafe with best coffee in Parkview, make that the whole of the Parks!!! Friendly staff and good food to go with!
Kendal Reid
i love this cosy little spot. I try to go at least once a week to get an amazing cup of coffee with a toasted bacon and egg, which comes with my favourite crispy chips. Michelle is always warm and friendly, and the cafe itself always smells delicious. On top of that their pancakes are always delightful. For the days when i can't come in, i can have the same heavenly scent in my house with the great array of coffee that they sell.

The Perfect Cup is one of Parkview's best kept secrets. Small and quaint, neatly tucked away in the Tyrone Centre, this is the perfect place to enjoy a coffee with a friend. I love the pancakes, and would highly recommend them.

I was looking for a new place to meet a friend for a catch up, and Parkview is halfway between us, and I read some good reviews here so figured we'll give it a go.
1. My own fault for not checking and making assumptions , but we met up at 12, the waitress was rather insistent with taking our order when we were chatting, only when the manager/owner came out to inform us the kitchen was closing at 12:30 and they were closing at 1pm - kudos to them for not working crazy hours, but for a Saturday - and as a coffee shop, I find that rather odd.

2. First impression, walking into the centre with the light jazz music playing is very welcoming, the have some couches and large tables encouraging mingling, many locals reading their papers, grabbing a cuppa.

3. I don't usually drink cappuccinos but since I heard people raving about it I had a go - stupid move for someone that is lactose intolerant, but it was good. My friend and I opted for simple cinnamon & sugar pancakes. They were light, bit sparse in the cinnamon for my liking - nothing to write home about. Also the presentation was somewhat lacking. I should gave taken a photo - not sure if it's clotted cream but it filled half the plate, while the two pancakes filled the other.

I won't rush back, but if I am in the area and I can find parking, I would probably pop in for a coffee.
Garth
What really makes this spot stand out is the warm and friendly service, especially when the owner is in. And it's not only the regulars that get special treatment. It was only my second visit and yet I want to come back more often, not only for the coffee but also to just soak up the atmosphere.

Stripped away from the daily bustle of the city, in the heart of Parkview, the Perfect Cup epitomises the ultimate low key cafe the deserves more attention. Excellent coffee, warm atmosphere, and the friendliest service.

The perfect cup opened my world to intense flavour of lemon on my pancake. Thank you Perfect cup.
Tiisetso
This delightful cafe is one of Parkview's hidden treasures. Tucked away below ground level of the Tyrone avenue shops, the Perfect Cup serves wonderful light meals and great coffees. The coffees come in a variety of blends which can also be bought to take. A surprisingly plus, the beans are roasted inside on site! The Perfect Cup has a charming ambiance, common to small homely towns but is a unique and rare escape in big city Johannesburg. One could not imagine a more perfect place to grab a perfect cup.
Phule
Best kept secret in Joburg, tucked away in this leafy suburb is this wonderful cafe with a very homely feel.
Nardus
This place breaks watches and destroys any innate sense of time passing, I have repeatedly missed appointments as a result of being enveloped in the atmosphere of a place that actually caters for coffee lovers.
Martha Van Zyl
The Perfect Cup is situated below street level in a little corner, with seating both inside and out. As their name suggests, coffee is their business, and you can buy plungers, travel mugs, the cutest little espresso cups, beans or your fresh grounds from them. There’s also the added bonus of live music on a Saturday morning between 10 – 12.

The menu offers breakfast, sandwiches and cake, as well as the option to have your sandwich presented as a jaffle instead. I love that idea, and despite not having had a jaffle in ages, I decided to have the full breakfast – eggs, bacon, mince/baked beans, tomato, toast – for a steal at only R47!

Another great item on the menu is the coffee; not just because it is their specialty, but because it includes two refills. If you want a treat on a limited budget, this is definitely a spot to consider.

The atmosphere is warm and friendly, with family and friends meeting up, and the staff are friendly, helpful, and take care of each person there as if they were a VIP member.
Andrew Kurten
The best coffee shop in Joburg!
Well priced and delicious food.
It is always nice to see familiar faces and to be greeted with a smile as soon as I walk through the door.

Saterday mornings are the best with the music that creates an amazing atmosphere.

This coffee shop is the perfect place for a cup of coffee. From the moment you walk in the door the aroma invites you to partake, and partake you will. The staff is friendly and there is always a happy buzz of conversation and laughter. It is really worth a visit. Ivan and Sue

Our favorite 'local' for coffee and the most delicious Lemon and Poppyseed cake!
Sunel Geldenhuys
What a great little cafe to go to. I had a cuppucino and a lovely piece of cake, some of the best I've ever had. The service was great and I loved the decor. Their menu also looked quite delicious. I would definately go back there again for a nice relaxing cup of coffee and even a meal.
Mary Van Blerk
As always, wonderful. Lovely breakfast , I am addicted to it now and nothing compares. Their coffee fills the passages at our offices with such aroma we can hardly wait until the pot is full. Wish we had pancakes to go with it ;) Guess we will have to wait for the weekend.

----- 19 Aug, 2013 -----

Birthday cake from the Perfect cup was wonderful. Breakfast was the best ever. Wonderful birthday weekend thanks to you guys.

----- 07 Aug, 2013 -----

Once again, just awesome. No other place makes eggs on toast quite like The Perfect cup, must be the love that goes unto it.

----- 16 Jul, 2013 -----

What a lovely little coffee shop. If I could rate it 10/5 I would. The jazzy Saturdays are awesome. Try the jaffles and pancakes as well as the freshly roasted coffee.

The Perfect Cup suits Parkview's village life perfectly. If anytime pancakes partnered with a strong but creamy cappucino is what you're looking for then your search is over. The aroma of the roasting coffee beans, the familiar faces of the regular customers and the hospitality of the staff will draw you back over and over again.
Scott
The Perfect Cup is a small coffee shop nestled in Parkview. it creates a happy ambiance with aromas of ground coffee and pancakes filling the air. I had a bar one pancake with banana which was great. The coffee was good but it would be nice if the different roasts of coffee were on the menu. The staff were friendly. A simple coffee shop that does what it does really well.
Steven Steinfeld
It was a nice spring day in September when a group of us found ourselves at this quaint, corner, coffee shop in Parkview. They were more than helpful when seating our large party and the service was fantastic and friendly. The food while simple was tasty and arrived quickly. A great coffee - roasted on site - and their delicious pancakes ended off our great meal.
T Man
Our regular family hangout on a Saturday morning. Awesome pancakes, great live sax music, and Michelle makes us feel soo welcome!
Jason Forbes
This little slice of heaven is nestled in the corner of the Parkview shopping centre. Upon entering you are hit with the most amazing smells of freshly ground coffee and home baked goodies. This shop is a must try for anyone who likes coffee and the sweet goodies that accompany it!
Briony Di Horwitz
The Perfect Cup is my home away from home.
This little gem is down the stairs, away from the road, far from the sun... but the warmth and ambiance created entirely make up for the lack of outdoor prettiness.
The music is well selected. Quiet enough for me to concentrate as I whip out my laptop (did I mention free high speed wifi and staff who'll help you find a plugpoint?) but evident enough to give me a little smile as I wiggle my shoulders to Edith Piaf.
There is a lovely selection of herbal teas... but my willpower to stick to these is entirely ruined by the beautiful caramel smell of roasting coffee.
The food is straight forward - like coffee shops used to have... but... When I ask for a glass of water, I get a carafe. When I order a toasted sandwich (on wonderful health bread), I get a side salad and crisps. When I order breakfast, I get delicious home made jam to go with my toast. Ok, every now and then I yearn for a pie or a quiche... but the cakes, sandwiches, pancakes, jaffles, salads and brekkies are served with wonderful simplicity and delicious attention to detail...

The owner is almost always around, remembering my name from my first visit, while her staff remember my regular orders and preferences

Despite being hidden, it's never empty. I am clearly not the only customer who has made this spot my regular. Families often bring kids to romp in the underground courtyard (yet, they never bug anyone), desperate housewives can be caught nattering, and there are always a few MacBooks open. It's an ideal spot for people-watching. It is, in fact, simply, an ideal place to be on any given day for any given reason. And then on Saturdays, there's Jazz...
Dave Drinkwater
The Perfect Cup is the Perfect Place for a Perfect Pancake! ... and always has the family coming back for more.
Sally Downie
Warm & friendly - brilliant coffee, welcoming staff and great cakes & toasties. Jazz on Saturday morning adds cosmopolitan atmosphere giving me chance to catch my breathe & spend lazy time relaxing with my husband & friends. If you haven't stopped past, do yourself a favor and do ... Great coffee all week through.
Lauren Fabian
We love the neighborhood feel of this cosy , friendly establishment !! We love the world class coffee ! Fantastic pancakes and yummy sandwiches. its also a coffee roaster so you can take your beans home with you !
Lindsay Whitton
The Perfect place to go for coffee, a warm and welcoming atmosphere coupled with great coffee (roasted in house) makes for an amazing afternoon. Not to mention the friendly staff and delicious food. Who wouldn't want to go there? So sit down, have a cuppa Joe and a delicious choc-mint pancake and a good time, but don't forget to take home a bag of beans so you can relive the experience at home.

The perfect cup is one of the very best coffee shops in joburg. With its outstanding coffee and delicious snacks- especially the pancakes- the perfect cup offers a personal take on a franchise- ladened industry. The shop is the personification of its owner Michelle- warm and welcoming, with an unparalleled knack for making you want to stay on a lot longer than originally planned.
Patti Van Biljon
This is a wonderful coffee shop! Always great coffee, good food, friendly staff and of course Michelle makes the experience even better. World's best pancakes!
Patti
Kylie Simone Pavlich
Loved the cozy atmosphere! The food is great and the coffee is fantastic! Would highly recommend The Perfect Cup to everyone!
Lynn Van Wyk
Simple and delicious food! Warm and cosy in winter! Michelle, the owner is so wonderful with the kids, so they the ones that beg to come to eat. Wonderful Jazz on Saturdays mornings to enhance the mood.
Dani Dayan
One of the best cups of coffee I've had in a very long time. The place is quaint and incredibly warm & friendly.

It's a great place to catch up with a friend or cozy up with a good book and a good cup. I really enjoyed my time here.

Also, a special mention must be made about the owner Michelle. She made the experience 10x better than it already was. She's incredibly friendly and hospitable. I highly suggest that if you're ever in the area, you pop in for a cup of Joe and a chat with her.
Renee Labuschagne Lotz
A wonderful, cosy and snug spot for a great cappuccino and a light bite. The pancakes are the best. Perfect place to meet with friends. Also tasty cakes.
Alexandra Chantal Kirkpatrick
This is a very small and intimate coffee shop, which sells absolutely amazing coffee! You can see all the different types of coffee beans displayed in the shop, adding to the warm and cosy feel you get there. The ice coffee is definitely one of the best around.

Even though they have a simple food menu, offering breakfasts, toasted sandwiches, pancakes and cakes, the food tastes very good. The dishes come with a small salad and crisps depending on what you order.

This cafe is rather small in size, with about ten tables. It seems as though it is always busy however, and the two waitresses barely cope and you may find yourself trying to grab their attention. It's perfect for a quick lunch at a good price, paired with a great cup if coffee!
Shannon Niebuhr
This cozy coffee shop will be particularly welcoming come winter. It's downstairs and totally protected from Joburg's wind and rain.

The Perfect Cup has a gentle atmosphere, with soft music, which makes it ideal for a quiet chat. It caters to the neighboring community with a focus on the senior citizens who live nearby and walk in daily to have a breakfast.

The menu offers Jaffles, which you'll remember from your childhood, and lovely egg-and-toast combinations.

The Perfect Cup is also a coffee bean roastery. Even the chairs are upholstered in coffee bags. It's a sweet place, but also friendly and fresh.
