Just had take away sushi and it was fresh and delicious. There were different choices from what I have seen before, at other restaurants and they did not disappoint! Not the cheapest place to get sushi but it was worth every cent for the taste and quality.
A fantastic spot with tasteful cozy decor. Delicious sushi and a great variety of dishes. We really enjoyed our night. To top it off they have fantastic service and are just the friendliest people. Would highly recommend it.
I’ve only ever ordered take aways from here. And it’s always the Poke Bowls. OMG they are a burst of flavor in your mouth. Crunchy, salty, sweet with picked ginger...an all round great umami flavors.
Because I can’t write 2 reviews I came here for dinner and had the Hiroshima Maki and wowwee was it delicious. Perfectly presented and balanced. Next was the Crazy Salmon Maki and it was just as delicious. Although the Hiroshima was my best. Totally coming back here. Service was super fast. Best sushi ever. What a gem.
Really great spot. Not too expensive too. One of Joburg’s hidden gems. Probably the best sushi in Joburg. Service was also really good. Their spicy tuna hand rolls were amazing
We had a wonderful dinner here last night. Sushi was delicious especially their new style sushi. All five mains of poke and grills were immaculately prepared and delicious but one guest had their Asia chicken curry which was very disappointing. Service also left much to be desired. But that said we will be back and I can highly recommend this little restaurant
The place is well decorated to give you a typical Japanese restaurant vibe. Service was good. Food was amazing! They offer a wide variety so even if you’re not a fan of sushi, there is still something for you! Their green tea ice cream was just way too good! Definitely a must try!
Great sushi and good service. The authentic ambience of the restaurant from the floor to the walls, including the crockery makes the experience feel different from most restuarants. The sushi was fresh and well presented. My only complaint is the prawns in the prawn curry were not completely clean and the ones that were, were not worth a 4 star rating. Other than that it was a perfect little authentic restuarant.
Based on a review Lauras World gave we visited Tomo Izakaya with the view of finding another option for good sushi. What a pleasant surprise indeed. Welcomed by the taiwanese manager who was very friendly we ordered some very well priced white wine. For starter we ordered the hiroshima maki that was superb with a bouquet of different flavours and sauces, great start. We then ordered the classic sushi platter for two (16 pieces). What I must congratulate them on was the freshness of the salmon and the tuna as well as its smooth as silk quality on the palate. Also the sushi rice also just right that with the salmon and tuna probably the best we have had. Last order was the tempura prawns one of our favourites. Was very nice, but the batter was a bit thicker than normal and slightly oily. This was the only difference between a 4 and a 5. Ambience good and nice feel to the restaurant. Interesting and varied menu. When we go again will try the Asian japanese style platter.
Did you know that sushi (as a simple Japanese 'fast food') is supposed to be eaten with your fingers?
I didn't (until my visit to this gem) and was most impressed to learn that chopsticks are typically only used to eat Sashimi.
Former Sushi Chef at Willoughby & Co (V&A Waterfront), Tommy Wang has absolutely wow-ed me with his new offering in the form of Tomo Izakaya in Kyalami.
This Asian Kitchen and Sushi Bar tucked away in the Kyalami On Main Shopping Centre has something to suite every taste imaginable! In fact, it was so comprehensive that scrolling through the menu recently, felt a lot like reading a storybook.
My favourite dish of the day: Hiroshima Maki: Salmon, Spicy Japanese Mayo topped with Gyoza wrapper and marinated salmon in a spicy Teriyaki sauce.
*Recommendation: What an absolute hidden gem, but not for long.. I would highly recommend this venue for an unusual and fun Asian dining experience in the heart of Kyalami.
