I love Paul's in Rosebank because the parking is easy, the newly revamped shop is gorgeous but it has two flaws... It needs more seating but my biggest request is, please serve some coffee!!! Waffles are crispy and delicious. Ice cream is a treat and service is great. 😊

If you want to reward yourself for making your steps on a cold winters night 19/8 then try Pauls ice cream.The waffels with salted caramel and nuts was crazy delicious. Between the 5 of us we got a variety of flavours..including the vegetarian flavors..would have to give that another chance though. The ladies who work there are friendly, quick and know their stuff. Definitely sit down at the tables and chairs..you enjoy your treat more

Hmmmm, the ice cream here 😋 is out of this world. I've never tasted ice cream this good in my life. Whether you want it on a cone or in a cup, they've got you covered. There is not a lot of sitting space, which makes sense as it's only an ice cream shop but you can grab a seat of its not packed or you can simply buy and grab a seat outside in the mall and breathe some fresh air whilst enjoying the ice cream.

After their waffle maker was fixed we finally got our ice cream fix! The batter was still frozen, but we were willing to wait after we were disappointed the previous time. The ice cream is out of this world (as usual) and the service was good and friendly, although they were slightly unprepared. The atmosphere in the middle of the noisy mall is not the best so we might look for a different branch next time.

I thought R32 for a small box is a bit too much but by the time I finished it, I felt the money was well worth it. And I like the fact that they aren't charging us vegans more. Keep it up! I have been twice and am going to try every flavour I can. Also If you're stuck trying to figure out if you should try coconut or dark chocolate, go for coconut!

Paul’s ice cream is absolutely the best ice cream in South Africa! I always try to get the health ice cream when I’m on my diet. Don’t know how healthy it really is compared to the normal ice cream, but it’s the thought that counts. The ‘peanut butter’ flavor is amazing. Wish that the nutritional values could be on the packaging. Great location, service is quick and friendly. The only thing that’s sad to me is that their stock, in the freezers, sell out so quickly that I’ve been disappointed a few times because of no stock. But congratulations to them for being that popular!

I must admit. The store layout is not fantastic or efficient but that won’t matter if there aren’t many people in the shop at once. Nonetheless the ice cream sure makes up for it and the reason you’ll be back. I was greeted by a lovely staff member. I am not vegan but I ordered the vegan dark chocolate. It’s my fav now. This is the second time I’ve tried it and it’s consistent. Whenever I’m feeling for ice cream Paul would be my go-to guy!

I've been hearing everyone around me raving about this place. So my friend decided to take me here as a birthday treat. My expectations were sky high. The lady at the till was super friendly. We tried out a few flavors: the Nutella flavor and another one with green tea. I chose one scoop of the cookies and cream flavor on a cone. They have a seating area but the tables were dirty. The ice cream was so bland and disappointing. I tried to give it a chance but it lacked flavor and just didn't taste like ice cream should. The cone was absolutely horrible so thick and tasted doughy Very disappointed wouldn't come here again.

We were greeted with warm smiles as soon as we approached. The ladies helped us with flavour suggestions and even let us have mini tasters to make sure we were happy with our ice cream!!! They even cater from sugar free patrons. As for the ice-cream- deliciously creamy. Best ice-cream in town!!

I was in Joburg for a bit and had an Ice Cream craving while shopping in Rosebank. I was really homesick and missing The Creamery when a friend recommended Paul's. The store is small and unassuming but OH MY GOSH the ice cream is so delicious. I was skeptical and decided to play it safe with the vanilla and ended up buying 2 other flavours after! Their sugar cone is also pretty yum - sweet and crispy and doesn't lose its shape when doused with ice cream. I'm starting to have a Paul's craving in Cape Town 😂 that's how good it is.

Best ice cream in town. I'm a regular at Paul's in Rosebank because the ice-cream is amazing and the staff very pleasant. I was there last weekend to get my favorite ice-cream, birthday cake. It is so unique and out of this world. It is taste like the whole birthday experience from the blowing out of the candles to the cutting of the cake. I was very disappointed when a seven year old took the last scoop. I settled for cookie dough (or something like that) not too sure about the name. It was nearly as good as birthday cake, a very good second. Staff was very amused at my breakdown because of the lack of birthday cake. They recommended flavors though and were very supportive during this time. Love this place

From normal chocolate to peppermint crisp tart, cookies and cream, salted caramel, cookie dough flavours to their Banting options that include amongst others a lovely coconut flavoured one. Well I can't comment on the in store experience but I can on the takeaway. I purchased for the first time your ice-cream from Thrupps in Illovo. Full off hope sadly I was very disappointed. The rocky road had nothing than a white streak through it and the chocolate ice cream was a grain like texture. Three spoon full and the rest down the sink. I can only hope it was a storage or transport issue that was responsible.Sadly for R105 I wont be trying again. Just thought you should know.

Apr 22: After dinner, instead of standing in queue for a donut, this time decided to eat Paul's home made ice cream. I have heard highly about the ice cream and decided to go for it. The small outlet is quite attractive from far. They have a nice ice cream selling bicycle - cute. We had the marshmallow and dark choco with chilli ice cream. My kid enjoyed the marshmallow ice cream. The ingredients seemed really good quality and the ice cream was smooth. I love ice cream with dark chocolate and if there is chilli added, then, it's better. The taste of this ice cream was good and just like Lindt Chilli chocolate, the chilli hits you once the ice cream passes your throat. Awesome. However, didn't feel the consistency throughout the scoop. The chilli wasn't hitting with every bite. But, otherwise, very good quality ice creams.

We tried Paul's homemade ice cream over the weekend for the first time, and it is worth a try to decide whether you like it or not. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the few flavours available were interesting flavours which will work for most: blueberry cheese cake, milk tart, roast banana, salty caramel etc. Some of the ice creams, especially the milk tart and birthday cake flavours, taste like batter and not like ice cream. I am sure different people will have different opinions about it. The average price is R25 per scoop, which feels to me a bit pricey, but at least you get a decent scoop of ice cream. I have some mixed feelings about this outlet still. Please note that a few seats outside are indeed available if you wish to sit down. If you really like the ice cream, you can also buy tubs here to take home. One thing that did put me off, is that I wanted to buy ice cream for someone at home, and they had no lids for the bowls - that can definitively be improved!

Im so excited that I finally got to taste this famous ice cream. It was the perfect taste into my childhood. Because of this fine thing, ice cream has now moved up my rankings of my favourite desserts! The only way I can truly get people to understand how incredible this ice cream is, you have to go and taste it yourself. What I loved was that they don't only offer the typical, chocolate, vanilla, cookies and cream. They have the most innovative, different type of flavors. You can taste the effort that goes into this ice cream. The desert lover that I am, I had to taste all the offered ice creams, and I felt like I was in heaven with each one. It melts so perfectly in your mouth. It's the type of treat that was made to bring sensations that are filled with love and happiness. I can't tell you who to come with, what vibe you'll get, and when to come. All I will emphasize is that it's definitely a place that should form part of your treat list, you are guaranteed to be pleased beyond expectation. I loved it! There was so much to enjoy! It's a good place to treat yourself.

The best thing that's happened to the Rosebank Mall to counter Joburg heatwaves and help make cheat days worth it. Paul's makes such great and unique flavours and the ice cream portions are very satisfying. My personal favorite is the Chocolate Nutella Oreo but birthday cake comes close. I've also tried the coconut and milk tart flavours which I think are okay but just not as great as my two favourite ones. The vegan friendly options are interesting and a great option to console yourself post a rewarding gym session on the way home but don't think They taste anything like ice cream as they are made from coconut cream and coconut milk. Zero sugar, zero fat and zero regrets 😊.

So bitterly disappointing- ice cream didn't taste like peppermint crisp tart at all, had been over churned, had crystallized and most of it remained on the spoon in the form of solidified fat! I could not believe the flavor combinations or how well they went together. Special mention needs to be made of 'Birthday Cake' flavored ice cream. Wow. Wow. Wow. I continue to be enthralled by the innovations Paul's is taking to the dessert market. Far be it from being a small ice cream vendor with vanilla, chocolate and one other flavor. The cookies, ice cream logs, allergy free and hot drink options (to stave off the winter chill) are show stoppers in their own regard. It's intended to be a take away so now real bearing on the vibe. Decor is eye catching, different and appealing. Overall an outright showstopper.

We've tried PHIC on two different occasions and both times the ice cream was so good. There's a wide range of flavours available which just makes choosing one so much harder. The ice cream tastes like a lot of effort has gone into making it and one scoop is more than enough as they are pretty generous.

Waiting for the week flavour list to get my hands on the creamy goodness, to visiting Fathers for waffle Saturdays to popping into markets for my fix so love the convenience of a dedicated store. My favorite flavours constantly changed but my current one is Birthday Cake ice cream which tastes like happiness. A scoop is too much for me and usually have to split it. Hard to eat store-bought tubs once you'v had a nibble of PHIC.

Really such a fan of PHIC. This specific outlet is small but the service is always friendly and helpful. You can buy them as a scoop or prepackaged from the fridge. Most flavours are delicious. Most recently we tried their Banting ice cream, which was average and probably wouldn't get that again. I definitely recommend trying their ice cream out if you're in the area.

The local ice cream has some delicious and creative flavours from Dolce de Lette, peppermint crisp tart to even Birthday Cake! I love dropping by Paul's whenever I'm at Rosebank to see what exciting flavours they have in offer. I come at least two Sundays a month to have their Ice Cream Sundae. Their flavours are amazing and never disappoint. All time favorites are the Roasted Banana Nutella and the Apple Pie flavours but I recommend you try them all. It's just a pity the seating arrangement outside isn't the best

Tucked away at the zone, near Krispy kremes, this local brand of ice cream is quickly gaining popularity among locals who enjoy gourmet home made Ice cream and ice cream cakes. Not the cheapest of places but half the price of international brand Hagen Daz. The flavor "Ice cream cake" is my favorite,although it taste different everytime I eat it, which is not good. Many flavors lack enough sugar and not as creamy. They could learn a thing or two from Hagen Daz, but definitely worth a visit

Tasty and interesting flavours! Birthday cake is my ultimate fave. Although I have to say many of the flavours taste sort of similar (Burfee and dulce de leche comes to mind). Think this place should expand into a crazy cool ice cream parlour with more and more exotic flavours!

Had a little bit of a sweet tooth while wondering around Rosebank on Saturday so decided to give Pauls Homemade Ice Cream a try. YUMMY! My sweet tooth was definitely satisfied. They are tucked away in a corner and lack much of an atmosphere or even much foot-traffic, but then again they are an Ice Cream Shop.The staff are very friendly and efficient and more than willing to suggest the most popular flavours. I had decided to go with the Madagascan vanilla with raspberry, and the Cookie dough flavours. The sweet raspberry was perfectly complimented by the more toned down vanilla, and the Cookie dough flavour had actual chunks of cookie dough in it which reminded me of my childhood-licking the bowl after baking. Some other flavours they serve include "birthday Cake", "Roasted Banana nutella" and "Nutella Chocolate Oreo flavour' which I will definitely come back to try. My only upset would be that I would have liked to see more fruity or sorbet-ish flavours that weren't so rich and milk based-Also I would have thought for a standalone shop they would have had a larger selection of flavours,not just one small fridge.

Loooong queue at Krispy Kreme & Starbucks so we opted for some ice cream instead. We choose a salty caramel cup to share. Not cheap considering the size of the scoop but then the cup & spoons are above average quality. It was however very yummy. Smooth, creamy and filled with a biscuit & lumps of caramel. Very very yummy. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. We'll definitely be back for more.

The Best Ice cream ever! My favourite is the Nutella Oreo flavour genius! Really yummy and some awesome flavours... can be a little rich as the flavours are out of this world. love love love!

I am extremely impressed with Paul's Homemade ice cream.🍦🍦 the flavors are creative and innovative. I had three scoops- toasted s'mores-coconut- banana and chocolate(can't remember the creative name) It is definitely homemade. It tastes like the just crushed the coconut and mixed it with a tad of cream and froze it. Great texture and flavors. The combinations of the ice cream is made with such perfection. I will be going back to try all the other flavors. Such a great concept and even better that the ice cream speaks for itself.

Ahhh Summer's here and ice cream is here to stay This is one of the best ice creams I've had in such a long time. They are smooth,creamy and delicious with some really exotic flavors (Vietnamese coffee with Oreo, it's a must). You have the option of having it in a cup/sugar cone or their homemade cones (I had it in the home made cone and it leaked) I suggest the normal cone

I am a huge fan of Pauls homemade ice cream. Their ice cream is absolutely delicious. My favourite flavour has to be birthday cake with toasted banana a close second. I also recently tasted their chocolate nutella oreo which was so yummy. They also have dairy free and sugar free options, which is great for those concerned about their waists. Look out for their ice-cream sunday events once a month in Bramley.

I love ice cream so I couldn't wait to try this out, I ordered a chocolate cone and the husband tried out birthday cake. Nothing extraordinary about the chocolate but I absolutely love the birthday cake, it's really yummy. Will be back to try out the rest of the flavours.

I like that this is quality ice cream, that is proudly south African! The flavours and variety though bring abit of the American glam with a south African twist - the staff serve you with a smile, that invites you taste the flavours before a commitment. And the variety between cones, cups or a takeaway, the takeaway cute tubs have a cute saying in them that will make your day. And the flavours range from milk tart to birthday cake, I'm sure you will find your fave

Paul Ballen is a proudly South African ice cream genius and really believes that ice cream is an art! I am very happy to see that he has transitioned into his own retail outlet (in Rosebank) in this hot South African weather. In early 2014, Josh Amoils and Paul partnered and started making ice cream in Orange Grove. Paul then received his first BIG order on March 31, 2014 from Thrupps and he hasn't looked back since. I have had quite a few of his ice cream flavours but on this visit, I chose his salted caramel ice cream which is always delicious. Another thing that I like about this ice cream is the authentic box packaging that it comes in. *Recommendation: Pauls got an incredible range of flavours that you can order: Peppermint Crisp Tart, Chocolate/Nutella/Oreo, Birthday Cake, Milk Chocolate, Roasted Banana, Madagascan Vanilla, Dulce De Leche and last but not least Cookies & Cream (which is also a favourite of mine). Head down in this heat and pick a flavour :)

It's great to see a local brand expanding. There is definitely a reason behind its success - very good REAL ice cream, available in unique flavours. You can taste that the quality of the ingredients used is of a very high standard. I would recommend having the roasted banana flavour. Also visit their website for custom orders showcasing flavours beyond your imagination. Looking forward to my next scoop!

Paul's Homemade Ice Cream has successfully transitioned from being a supplier to a retailer. My first encounter with PHIC was when I purchased a tub to go with pizza order at Petrone's Pizzeria in Edenvale. Since then I have always been on the look out for PHIC and now I know exactly where to go to get my fix. I love ice cream in it's simplest form but if you're someone who loves creative ways of consuming ice cream then PHIC's ice cream sandwiches are a must.

OH.MY.WORD. Best ice cream we have ever had. The staff was really friendly and allowed us to have small tastes of all flavours before deciding. Everything was delicious, especially the Chai Tea (my favourite) and birthday cake (husband's favourite). We also had pappermint crisp tart, dulche de leche, and salted caramel. The ice cream has an amazing creamy texture and you can taste the quality of the ingredients. Can't wait to go back for more!!!

I'd heard about PHIC several times from friends who frequented 27 boxes and was quite chuffed when I spotted it in Rosebank the other day. The idea of home made ice cream with interesting flavours had me quite excited. However I was a little underwhelmed, I found the ice-cream to be a bit on the sweet side and not as creamy as I like. I tasted the dulce de leche and was taken aback by the sweetness so I opted for the cookies and cream. It's not as sweet but after a while it becomes a bit much. Nonetheless I will come back and try a few different flavours before completely making up my mind about it and I'd love to try the ice-cream sandwiches!

After all the hype and reviews from friends about Paul's homemade ice cream i finally got to try it - Absolutely Delicious! The flavours are unique and incredibly tasty! I tried the roasted banana flavour which tasted like banana bread! Definitely well worth the calories!

I luv the fact that Paul's has opened up in Rosebank. It's a quaint little shop that u may not notice unless u look twice; but the ice cream is worth all the calories. My favourite is the salted caramel...luv it! My friend had the Nutella chocolate one which was also good.
