Walnut Grove certainly has left the exact opposite of a bad taste in my mouth! The food was incredible and so was the service. The quality and styling of the food was designed to feel comforting and simplistic yet also have a certain variety of ingredients and complexity of flavours. Due to the reasons above this restaurant deserves five gleaming gold stars, no questions asked. Walnut Grove has an open feel with plenty of space for seating and it certainly was packed when we visited! With no negatives or criticism, I would visit this place again in a heartbeat and hope that you do too!
The restaurant is located near the food court so it can be a bit loud unless you sit further in the restaurant. The decor is quite cool with an enormous tree chandelier at the entrance. The rest of the restaurant has wooden arching details. We have been to the restaurant 3 times now, primarily for the cake! The waiters are always friendly but the service is generally quite slow. The food is tasty (although very averagely presented). The standout is definitely the cakes. Although really pricy at R69 per slice, they are moist and decadent!
Got some afternoon tea with my friends and we all loved the ambience and how quiet and chilled the place was. They have quite a few vegetarian friendly options and their cakes taste just as good as it looks and is super moist, sadly none of the cakes are vegan friendly. They have a few very common vegan dishes available but I would appreciate if they had more options.
Great food and service for a break from shopping at Sandton. The mamma pizza was awesome along with the Cuban club sandwich. Drinks are plentiful and the cucumber and apple granita not to be missed. Give this place a try!

For as long as I can remember, this place is a great classic. From the decor to the food, this is an amazing place. Most of the dishes served are of hotel quality and service was pretty decent to say the least.
If you want amazing and made by the angels in heaven cake . This is your spot ,zero exaggeration . This little gem is in the middle of Sandton City Mall .
Their service is really great and the manager is constantly checking up on all the tables . It’s pretty cool that you get to see the cakes being made and the magic happens right in front of your eyes . I’ve never had the breakfast here but I hear it’s good too .
Be warned ,the portion slices are super huge and it takes a good hour to kill a slice . So sharing of one slice can definitely happen .

I came her on Friday morning with my two friends for some breakfast.
I was impressed with the set up and the ambiance. Got greeted by 4 friendly waiters/waitresses at the top of the stairs and we were walked to our table.
This place is classy and worth your money because the food is worth its value . The food was great and the service was perfection. Our waitresses name was Buhle and she was there to make us feel 'at home'. Her professionalism is something I appreciate the most because she made sure everything at our table was 'fine' and also checking up on us without being a nuisance.
It's cosy and a perfect place to eat. I highly recommend it because in my opinion Sandton city has many restaurants that fall flat on expectations. I can't give it a 5 because it's not the best restaurant I've been to, but is one of my memorable ones and I shall return.
This is such an amazing spot. The ambience is amazing. The food was okay but the cakes were the winners of the day. I particularly enjoyed the rainbow cake. It was to die for. I really enjoyed myself.
Brilliant service from our waiter which made the experience more pleasurable. We ordered spicy shrimp tacos and fried calamari heads as starters. Both were delectable, the tacos were a definite fave. We also ordered salmon pasta as the main, it was good simple dish.

We popped in for a sweet treat and coffee on the way home. The cappuccinos were as delicious as the generous portion of mille feuille that we shared. The dessert options were plenty and the seating very comfortable. Service was good too.

The service is always warm and friendly - the waiters are accommodating and happy to help. Their food is also great value for money. Their milkshakes and toasted sandwiches are so yum!

They say that money doesn’t buy happiness and that retail is therapy. However there is one thing...ONE THING, that can change your state, elevate your serotonin levels and make you scream for more. For centuries monks and gurus have spent time seeking enlightenment, I found this in there nachos.
The ambience and decor of this place is impressive. We've tried their ferrero cake and chocolate ganache cheesecake and it was amazing. For mains we had nachos, chicken prego and almond crusted chicken fillets. Their portion sizes are large and proportional to the price. For drinks we had espresso and Virginia strawberry dacquiri. The warm drinks come with the cutest mini red velvet cupcake. Service can be slow at times but the waiters are friendly

I found myself in Sandton City after a cancelled meeting and was feeling rather nibblish. It has been many years since I have been to Walnut Grove as the usual cake and tea dates set by friends got taken up by work commitments, sadly.
As it was an odd time of the day to have a full meal, I opted for some tasty snacks.
Definitely Nachos because it is the perfect peckish pleasure. The salsa and guacamole was fresh and perfectly seasoned. The cheese was oh soooooo gooey and not too oily. It was Nachos in a bowl made of Nachos! One of the best nacho dishes I've had and very comforting.
Next up was the Halloumi Fries which were crunchy on the outside but perfectly cooked inside. The harissa mayo was a great accompaniment as a dip that added to the flavour and crunch.
The Iced Coffee Gelato that I opted to drink was perfectly chilled. The vanilla ice cream flavour cut the bitter coffee and made this drink one for my coffee based options as I do not particularly enjoy iced coffee anythings.
I took home a slice of Coconut Cake and Rainbow Cake which is always a pleasure and hits all spots!
Lastly I got 2 ciabattas which were crisp, crunchy and perfectly airy.
Walnut Grove will always be a favourite and I'll definitely be back for some comfort.
Sadden by how the tramezzini’s have become so dry and distasteful I always used to order them
But other than that I love everything; the vibe, cakes, coffee, main meals.

Walnut Grove is the only reason I would set foot in Sandton City.
The last time I came here was just for coffee and cake (Ferrero Rocher cake to be precise) and it was absolutely delicious — rich and flavourful.
The portion sizes are very generous. My brother and I couldn't even finish the slice together, we had to take some home.
The coffee wasn't bad either, my cappuccino was full-bodied and rich. The best part about the hot drinks is the tiny little cupcake that compliments them, probably the tiniest cupcake I have ever seen.
I keep coming back for more.

What a cute little find - I think I have walked past that staircase a million times without realizing what a cute restaurant is up there. Im someone that just loves to stop for a tea break and this is something I think Sandton City hugely lacks a choice of but so happy to now find Walnut grove. Prices are reasonable and the layout of the restaurant is very elegant and most tables seem very private ( you never feel like you part of the party next to you) staff are on the ball and food and drinks come in good time - A lovely place to stop at if you need a break from the hussle and bussle of the centre
needed a spot to get some work done and grab something light in sandton mall so picked this spot. I had a cappuccino which was excellent. I then had a slice of rainbow cake - the portion was big and I had leftover for home (yay😊) the cake was also super moist and very tasty I loved it. had a good morning sunshine juice which I also enjoyed. great service with a smile.

I love this place! The fact that you get a mini red velvet cupcake with your coffee is just brilliant it’s the perfect bite size to leave you satisfied. I did order a normal sized one though! Hehe.I love the minestrone soup from here, always ask if it’s available before I sit down. Gladly go back for more every time we are at Sandton city :)
It’s always a pleasure sitting at the Walnut grove. I love just sitting, having a great cuppa and reading a book at the Walnut grove. The staff is always friendly and their chocolate cake is almost as good as my own! Their dessert section is my favorite part of the entire menu!
Absolutely love this little place. The cappuccino is served with a min red velvet cake, which adds a little bit extra to the experience. It’s quite pricey for a coffee shop, however, the quality of food is amazing. The chicken salad was delicious. The fries with cheese and mushroom were ok. I will definitely come back here.

Walnut Grove is one of my favourite eating joints in Jo'burg. The food is not only yummy but it also suits the taste buds a lot. I have been here quite a number of times now, but have never been disappointed with the quality and taste of the food being served here.
The seating area is very comfortable and especially if one is seating on the sofa towards the railing. That's where I always prefer to sit.
The portion size is huge and too filling.
I love the African Rustic Nachos and have it every time I am there. These are literally soaked in cheese and served hot with cheese melting all over them. The dips served along with it also nice.
The flat bread and margarita pizza were also nice. We also had the butternut and tomato soup, served with butter and garlic bread.
Main course was quinoa salad with loads of walnut n fresh veggies for me. The portion size of the salad was good for two people. The other order was beef steak served along with curry, fries and sautéed vegetables. Both the dishes were too good and we were happy for our choices.
We also tried Berry shake and mango banana shake, both of it was too heavy and creamy.
The rainbow pastry was our last order as it was really very attractive.
All in all, it's a must go place of one is in Jo'burg. I might be going there again very soon.
The ribs are mouth watering, the veggies were well cooked and out of this world. The service was not as quick as I would have loved it to be, BUT the food made up for it! The environment is fresh and relaxing, seeing that it is situated in a busy mall, I love the feel.
Great service, I’ve passed this restaurant countless times but today I decided to go in and see what the fuss was about. I was very happy with the wide variety on the menu, great milkshakes, wide variety of cakes. The food was delicious, I’ll be sure to pop in again when I am in JHB again.
The food is different and de-licious!! Very big portions for the price you pay and this for a restaurant in Sandton. I will definetely be coming back again.

After coming to the mall a few times, I knew I had to try the cake here! I ordered a slice of red velvet and it was delicious!!! Probably not good for the waistline, but I'll still come back again!

Had a wonderful dinner at Walnut Grove. The menu is a bit limiting especially because of their steep prices. I decided on the Chicken Curry and Chakalaka Hot Wings.
The curry was served with brown rice so this is a plus for health conscious diners. It was delicious but the wings were way better. Full of flavour. Absolutely yummy.
Presentation was on point. The ambience and decor was lovely, it was a quiet evening. The service from our waiter was amazing. Let's hope it's also like that on busy days as well.
Great beverages, different from other cafes and a good variety of them too! The Vanilla Bean Latte is amazing and their hot beverages are served with a mini red velvet cupcake on the side. Try them out, you won’t be disappointed and cravings will be satisfied.
This place never disappoints. I went there just to get 2 slices of their rainbow cake and as usual it was scrumptious. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't have a sweet tooth.

The men complained that the restaurant is a little dark. We didn't realize until we had to read the menu.
Past this, they have amazing cupcakes which our friends keep going back for. Their food is really good but we waited quite some time for our waitress and our bill. Luckily we were with good friends so we had great company. If you go here, have some time to wait - or it might turn out horrible for you!
I've never had a bad experience here. Good service. Love the setting. The fillet is so good. Portions are huge. The breakfast is also good. Not too fond of the cakes though.

Walnut Grove is a landmark in sandton city, being there for the longest time. For some odd reason I haven't visited since they renovated a couple of years back. Went for breakfast on Sunday...they have the most delectable cake display. I had their croquette eggs Benedict...poached eggs, potato & Parmesan croquettes, spinach, Emmental cheese, bacon...it was delicious, although I didn't like the lemon zest dressing that it was served with.
Walnut Grove is one of the best bakers in town and I simply adore their Rainbow cake. It's a must if you are celebrating your loved ones birthday. Also the veg pasta is amazingly tasty and all the cakes are yummy. Milk shakes are cool too and you can try some Macaroons. I have visited this establishment on numerous occasions as I work close by. Ideally located in a central part of the mall at the food court, however placed slightly above the other conventional restaurants.
Food and service has never disappointed. It is however a restaurant in a mall so the ambience is what you would expect of this sort of setting.
It was quite late and the restaurant was close to closing but nevertheless, the staff was very happy to serve us our late night cake and coffee fix. They accommodated our child with warm milk. The cake was really good - especially their rainbow velvet. Awesome spot with awesome cake and coffee.

The restaurant has beautiful decor and helpful staff. The food here however is very overpriced, for very average tasting run-of-the-mill food. I wouldn't rush here to have a meal.

We just stopped here for a quick coffee. From the moment we stepped in it was magic. The manager and the waiters are all so up beat. They have a great selection of cakes "baked fresh onsite every day non-negotiable !" The decor is very pretty and I think this would make a cute spot for a date. Looking at the food coming out of the kitchen I wish I hadn't eaten earlier. We had a double espresso and an americano both served with the cutest little red velvet cupcake. We also decided to share a piece of coconut cake which was delicious !!

Love it!love it! Love it! The set up has this intimate feel. I fell in love with the large chairs. Everything works well together. The food was great, but their cakes and cupcakes are definitely something to write home about. You have to try their rainbow cake at least once. But they have a large selection and each one looks delectable. I am however just a bit disappointed by the shop upstairs. It has a bit of a insect problem,probably due to all the sweet crumbs on the floor,that puts a wet towel on the whole experience.

Food is expensive but a very large portion and very tasty. The burger was drenched in cheese and abit oily but chicken strips was delicious. The waitress was extremely pleasant and checked on us frequently. The restaurant and its bathrooms are very clean and have an upmarket feel.

As for my slice of carrot cake with cheesecake, it was absolutely delicious. The cake was moist, with a perfect ratio icing to cake.
We went in for supper on a Friday night. The restaurant was not to busy and we were seated fairly quickly.
I chose to have a light meal and went with the chicken strips with almond crust which came with cheese fondue.
The chicken was very tender and flavourful which was good. The food was prepared a bit on the slower side and the wait was a bit long.
For dessert I tried the black velvet oreo cake. This was really good and the slice was very generous. One would struggle to finish it after a full meal.

We went during weekday lunch time, the staff was welcoming and attentive. The food was unexpectedly great, had a nachos and salad, and the decor and interior design of the restaurant is tranquil and lovely.
The food is juicy and delicious, the cakes are worth every cent, the service from the staff is great, however the setting of tables is a bit weirdly cramped.

Our waiter was kind and friendly. This is a great restaurant with yummy food.
Having been here before I knew what to expect, a pleasant experience, which was had. Came on a weekend and the mall was packed but was lucky to find a table for lunch. The entire deco is spot on, love the over hanging lights. The food was exceptional. I must admit, prices where a bit on the higher side but I guess you're paying for great service and food. I'll give them an overall rating of 9/10.
Very nice place to chill and have a great breakfast. Food was really good and the portions size is big. I appreciated the mini cupcake with my cappuccino!

Been a while since I came here and it’s lovely how it feels apart and contained from the mall yet right in the hub of the grove.
I love how the waiter remembers the order without having to write the stuff down .
I love the Tumeric Golden Latte hot drink had some sushi yet the vegan burger was average, my friends kingclip was excellent , the sashimi slices we beautifully presented.
Cozy spot to have an anytime meal.
One of Sandton City’s popular restaurants, it was pleasant going back after a long time. Gets super busy during brunch so seating can be a challenge.
A great place for family and friends to enjoy a cozy, delicious meal together. Fitted with a variety of seating options. Bookings may be suggested during busier times. Above the other restaurants, with low ceilings a meal had here provides a homely atmosphere.

The service was quick. Staff was very friendly. The cakes I bought were moist and delicious with extremely generous portions that I failed to finish a portion in one sitting. Sadly I had a trolley so had to have takeaway since there was no way to go upstairs with it. I'd recommend visiting Walnut Grove and I will definitely be going back when next in South Africa
