The best fish and chips in cape town and a must visit! There's ample seating and wonderful views of the bay. Make sure to put extra extra vinegar.
Anything fresher in still in the sea.
Yummy seafood and the portion sizes are huge.
Love this place👌

This place has everything you'd want for a great dining experience. Friendly staff, view of the bay, generous portion sizes and fantastic food! We tried yellow tail, prawns and calamari. Would have hoped for fresh cut chips and not the ready cut but it did not detract from the overall experience.
Calamari calamari calamari! Wow. I can’t even find other words. Just wow. And the price is really good. I enjoyed the rustic sea-side Harbour vibes.
This most sought after place in Hout Bay is a hidden gem. It is located quite a distance away from the Tourist bus but the fish and chips are to die for. My yellowtail and hake I ordered were fresh and you could really take loads of bites. The downfall was the calamari which was rubbery. But take nothing away, they do serve quite delicious fish and chips. There is nothing to speak of in terms of service as most of this is self catering.
When I say that, if I could eat fish every single day for breakfast lunch and supper then I’d be the happiest girl in the world, I’m seriously not even exaggerating!
So with that been said, you know I take my fish and chips very serious and this spot is my ultimate fave.
They fry everything on their menu to perfection, from the deliciously crispy battered hake, to the tender and juicy calamari, the mouth watering peri peri prawns, even the perfect sized fries, I just cannot get enough.
This spot can get quiet full over the weekend, so it would be best to go either before or a bit after lunch. The wait is quiet reasonable as their food is always freshly prepared, and is decently priced.
The whole ambience of sitting outside catching some fresh air while enjoying your fish+chips combo, is really one of my favorite things to do on a Summer’s Sunday, or any other day of any other season for that matter! Lol
A place I’ll definitely return to again and again.
A definite must try!
Most Amazing Fresh Fish And Seafood In Cape Town ! Love It ! And What An Amazing And Breathtaking Oceanic View And Mountainous Scenery! Definitely For An Adventurous Soul !
Fish on the Rocks is my favorite Fish and Chips place in Cape Town and also one of the “must see” tourist locations.
They always have queues but they work so fast that you don’t stand long in the queue and your food is fresh when you get it. After having your meal you can admire the scenery around the restaurant which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean entering the Hout Bay/False Bay Area.
Via the stunning views from Chapman’s Peak we arrived in picturesque Hout Bay moments before the lunch time rush for some of its famous Vis en Tjips(fish&chips). The debate spanning decades is whether you get the best fish and chips from Snoekies or Fish on the rocks? Having tried Snoekies previously at both Hout Bay and their franchise outlets and having heard great things from Lucianrajah we opted for Fish on the rocks. We were not disappointed! A party of 3 we ordered 2x Hake and chips and for something a little different I sampled the Snoek and chips, even being as busy as they were service was exceptional and before we knew it we had been digging in to our hearty portions. Upon first glance we assumed we would have left overs for dinner though it really hit the spot and got wiped out. The fish and chips were simply outstanding, all you could possibly ask for. The fish was fresh, the batter crisp and the ambiance created from very satisfied customers and the beautiful setting really topped it of. I highly recommend Fish on the Rocks to anyone going out to Hout Bay!
Great experience, the service was fast and effective, the fish was fresh and tasty and the chips...real slap chips...right there in the harbour, a must try for all visiting Hout Bay.
