Review Die Plaaskombuis - Hermanus

Popped in for lunch.. And desperately needed some food to soak up the wine from all the tastings up the road. Had a fantastic toasted chicken mayo with delicious chips. The sandwich said it came with pepper dews and avo. The peppadews were inside amongst the chicken mayo but the avo was out of stock. We were offered some cheese instead which came in a little bowl. Hmmm.. Why not put it in the sarmie and toast that too? Made me wonder if the avo came in the self same little bowl.. Odd.. Service was great. Will be back. Came back. Wanted another toasted chicken sarmie, but it was a Sunday. No can do, said Anna, our waitress. They're cooking Sunday roast. Saw a few as we were being seated. Didn't look that appetizing, so went for a cheeseburger. It was pretty good. Loved the roosterkoek roll at the start, but by the end of the burger it was just a bit too heavy, what with all those delicious chips too. My wife had the steak pie which to be honest, lacked spices and could have done with a quarter of the salt that was in there. Ease up on the salt chef, we can always add more if we like... See you soon

Nice quiet and tranquil farm shop and restaurant. The shop supplies fresh farm foods at really good prices. The owner is very welcoming and heartwarming. The restaurant is stunning with jungle gyms, swings and plenty for kids to do. The food was amazing and the service top notch. I would like to personally thank Webster; your service friendly, welcoming, informative and exemplary. Your warmheartedness and sense of humor made us feel right at home. Unfortunately, we had a bit of hostility from the lady in the baking goods section. Not just did she shove through us without an apology but complaining about other clients whilst doing so. She was also very abrupt when we were about to pay leading to me returning the goods and choosing not to subject myself to her any further. Highly unprofessional and amateur.

Great little gem on the Hemel amd Aarde road. Had breakfast and it was delicious. Love the decor of old telephones and various other old things.

Best restaurant I have ever been to in my LIFE! TOP SERVICE, TO DIE FOR PANCAKES WITH A SINGLE BEAN. I CANNOT IMAGINE ANYTHING BETTER!!!!

The Plaaskombuis is open on a Monday which was a pleasant surprise, as they seemed to be the only restaurant open in the area. A large dining room serving home style traditional fare, a quirky shop selling all sorts of goodies, and a small plant nursery make this a pleasant stop. The service from our attentive and friendly waiter was exemplary. We even knitted a few rows as there are knitting needles and wool on some of the tables. Makes a change from sitting on our phones while waiting for the order!

This was a fun place to take the children. There were several things to keep them entertained outdoors in the wonderful gardens. There was also a small play area inside for when it got too windy. The food is ok: I had a pancake filled with chicken mayo.

What an incredible experience. Professional yet so friendly and kind staff. A beautiful setting and the most delicious farm home cooked meals. And bonus, our desserts were included in our main meal price. Well done to this amazing restaurant in Hermanus...definitely worth a visit.

Large area, big portions, nice menu and tasty food. Some antique home items for sale as well. Not enough staff members for busy days. Kiddies play area a bonus for parents.

I have been to this place on numerous occasions and always have a good experience. It is not too far from Hermanus and the only negative aspect is the road works taking place. However, the delay at the road works is minimal and will not spoil the trip or outing in any way. I strongly recommend this establishment.

Great outing feom Hermanus. Nice play area for kids, shop to look around with nice selection of cakes and biscuits. Good breakfast abd lunch menu, but don't be in to much of a hurry if place is busy, enjoy the view.

This place is a fantastic breakfast stop on your way to winetasting in the Hemel and Aarde valley. They have a unique breakfast bunny chow style dish which is delicious. Fantastic vibe and good service. Would strongly recommend.

Beautiful drive a few kilometres out of Hermanus. Enjoyed their sumptuous' Farm breakfast and coffee, surrounded by 'days gone by' articles displayed and home made bread. Children playing safely outside while we relaxed.

Sunday drive to Hermanus with the family and we were looking for a lunch option that was not the everyday usual usual.

Super happy to have stumbled upon this farm stall with its traditional Afrikaans food menu. So many options you often don’t find on menus , so much so we opted to order a few to share amongst us. This included a steak pot pie with wedges and salad, venison pie with wedges, Sunday roast with trimming and the offal curry with samp and trimmings.

The food was hearty. Pies are very meaty. The trimmings are an array of veg, which includes the most glorious pumpkin tart. It basically tasted like a pumpkin milk tart... if that’s even a thing...

Dessert is also served with the offal curry and Sunday roast - either malva and custard or a fruit salad. It was ok..

Service is very friendly and super welcoming. But it was spotty... took 15min to bring out the drinks. Another 40min for the food... it was a game of endless waiting... so you’ll need to have patience when coming here.

At least there’s a nursery, deli and farmstall to browse through while waiting. Ample seating and a large open space with playground equipment for kids to enjoy.

Will I return... hmm.. maybe for that amazing pumpkin tart!

If you are looking for a traditional afrikaans hearty meal this is the place. The service was fast, friendly and efficient. Food was fresh and delicious. Portions were more than generous and good value for money. Everything was spot on.

A fantastic old fashioned "farm styled store and food store" settled in fantastic scenery in the Hemel and Aarde Valley. The service was quick and efffect, the curry mince pancakes where fresh and piping hot served with a small portion of home made chips, the chicken mayo wrap was fantastic and fresh, the home made chips a killer and with some tomato sauce they where great. Cuppacino was average and the beer was well chilled. Will stop there anytime again for a bite.

We looked everywhere in Hermanus for a nice homely place with warm food, couldn't find anything! Drove all the way here and they said they were closed, think they could see the disappointment, so the owner made a plan and kept the kitchen open for us. Greeted with a smile and great service! Food was just as great as the welcome! Thank you Plaaskombuis!

Waited over an hour for our food. The owner/ manager was also very rude. First didn't want to seat us without a booking although tables were open. Food average.

We went there 2 days in a row - the first day the service was very good, friendly. It's a lovely place, kid- and pet-friendly.
The second day we sat outside, in their large outside area, since our kids wanted to play on their jungle gym. Once we sat down the manageress told us we couldn't order anything if we sat outside, and could only get a takeaway coffee. I offered to carry plates inside and back so we could order some simple food, but she was adamant, and we only ordered 1 coffee. We then saw several groups of people sit outside (they have several tables outside) and get served by waiters, ordering full meals on plates and drinks, etc.
When I asked why we were told we couldn't order anything other than a takeaway, the manageress said if we had sat inside and ordered, and then moved outside she couldn't have stopped us, but now I couldn't do that because they won't serve us outside. Which was blatantly incorrect as I watched waiters run in and out, taking new orders and serving outside. If they don't want people sitting outside they shouldn't have any tables there, not to give me a rubbish excuse and then apply double standards in front of me.
Regardless, to me customer service means trying to accommodate guests, not make it difficult and then argue rudely when challenged on what was happening.

We popped in to look at this place as it looked very popular and ended up staying for lunch. It's an interesting shop/restaurant but the outside enclosed patio area is really great for luck with lots of sun streaming in late afternoon and with great views over the stunning mountains. The area is huge and the decorations are just so interesting with old LP's in the tables and knitting needles with wool everywhere. Just a great venue for afternoon tea or Kate lunch.

We ordered toasted sandwiches that came with real homemade brown bread, as well as a spinach and feta quiche. Good food with friendly and personal service in a great setting.

This is my idea of what a farm stall should be! Die Plaaskombuis is rustic and vibey, with friendly service and a uniquely-stocked stall (things like vintage tins and lots of home-made goodies). The coffee is good and the food tastes home-made - and is very well-priced! Their French Toast is worth mentioning. I'll definitely be back to try out their lunch menu. Well worth a visit!

A hidden gem in the Hemel en Aarde Valley and one of my favourite breakfast spots when visiting Hermanus. The Plaaskombuis breakfast is a must - yum (breakfast is only served until 10:30 / 11:00 so come early). We are always greeted and served with a smile. Everyone is friendly. Nice relaxing ambience :)
