Hands down the best restaurant in Joburg.

Tim and his team have created a completely immersive experience that makes you feel you've stepped out of the hustle and bustle of the city! You will not be disappointed.

We would immediately advocate for this restaurant to be added to the Hidden Gems collection, except.then it wouldn't stay a hidden gem for long! Fabulous wine pairing set menu, with generous but not overbearing portions of food. Tim, the co-owner, was sommelier on the night and his knowledge and choice of boutique wines was a delight and added to the experience on the night. We'll be back, both for another dare night and for small group functions!

Okay so....

*Ambience*: very intimate setting. I think the restaurant seats 20 people max. There are 2 seating options: the counter or the banquette (the long couch situation). Definitely opt for the latter. Booking is essential (specify seating when you book).
It’s super warm and comfortable. Upmarket without being pretentious.

*Menu*: so the menu is European flair with local and seasonal ingredients. The menu options are 3 course or 5 course (2 starters and 2 mains). With (R550/R850) or without (R450/R650) wine pairing. There’s also a vegetarian option if that’s your kind of thing. Oh then there’s a complementary amuse bouche and palette cleanser.
Standout dishes are: 1. Squid ink risotto starter (perfect). 2. The spiced lamb rack (yeyi!). You can’t go wrong with dessert. The malva is not your average malva, they really elevated it whilst being true to tradition. The sorbet dessert had so many fresh, tart, rich and creamy elements to it, so good! I can’t stress how good that food is overall!

*Drinks*: boutique wines and bubbles. 60% female owned wineries. Very good. Unusual varietals. Reasonably priced as far as wine lists go.

*Service*: attentive without being overwhelming. The sommelier is very knowledgeable and friendly. Small service team than can more than handle the space.

*Vibe*: it’s definitely a dinner vibe. I think the daytime menu is literally just antipasti and wines. The music selection is easily listening soul and R&B and thankfully very much in the BACKGROUND. It’s super dope. I’ll definitely be back.

Had a beautiful dinner last night. The restaurant is quite intimate and perfect for a romantic night out or with a small group of friends.

The food is the real star. Every dish was perfectly balanced in terms of flavor and textures. I loved the portion sizes too.

Will definitely be back!

This is truly such a gem...it’s hidden away in 7th street so you could easily miss it & it only seats 20 people so reservations may be difficult but it’s so worth visiting. We chose the 5 course tasting menu...I luv’d the squid ink risotto & prawn starter, as well as the ostrich tartare...such lovely flavours!!! My fave main was the lamb cutlets. For dessert I had the tiramisu which was beautifully rich.
Am definitely visiting again!

We have been wanting to visit for some time and it was rather pleasant experience. We sat at the window facing the street which mimicked a rather French located restaurant. French music and the ambiance, service was excellent. Food was superb in its presentation and taste. A definite must try. Please note this is a tiny restaurant with a massive heart so please place a reservation in advance.

Beautiful and intimate setting and great service. The starters we had were world class (especially the risotto and ostrich carpaccio). The mains were mixed - delicious duck, decent lamb but not so great octopus in our opinion. The Coffee Bay tiramisu for dessert was great. As were the wines throughout. All in all I would highly recommend.

Last week I attended the most amazing food and wine pairing at La Petite Maison. La Petite Maison is a proud new addition to the Melville food scene. The restaurant is owned and headed up by Michelin star restaurant trained South African duo, Chefs Tyeya Ngxola and Tim Stewart, who met while enrolled at a cuisine school in Italy.

Delicious!!! I had the octopus, which was tasty and a smart dish. Duck was tender and juicy. Pork flavours were excellent. Desserts: tiramisu was so well balanced. The vibe and decor is lovely, excellent service and great wine list. Will be back to try more!!

This is the best place in jhb..Do yourself a favour and visit this restaurant before you die. Food and wine pairing with a very knowledgeable sommelier. Booking essential as they do not take more than 20 people. This is a hidden gem and the food is great

Excellent meals, cool selection of wines. The place is very nice and the staff is very responsive. Maybe a bit noisy at some moments when you seat next to the entrance door but this is due to the fact that the place is not that big.

An evening well spent. The food is fantastic, well prepared and presented. The space is small and intimate, which is great for a easy-paced, dining experience. I visited with 3 friends and the food was superb and so was the wine. Amazing to see young, talented, South African chefs with french style culinary skills serving up contemporary South African food/flavours.

What a gem. From the first moment, and then the entire evening, we were treated like royalty. The food was the best dining experience of my 48 years! The squid ink risotto was to die for. And the wines... Each one was outstanding and unusual, a real experience, made vibrant and delightful by the sommelier. Excellent quality. Having the 2 young, talented chefs introducing each course made the evening so entertaining. I wasn't wild about the duck, but all the other courses were so extraordinary, it made up for it. Fresh, perfectly spiced ingredients, exquisitely presented. Worth every penny. We'll be back soon!

So excited to find a new favourite in Jhb! This teeny tiny restaurant is beyond romantic. Decor is part minimal, part eclectic. The menu is well thought out, with unique options which aim to fuse French, Italian and Middle-Eastern cuisine. Sounds OTT... but the execution proves it was meant to be! We went with the 3 course tasting menu. You have the option to add a wine taster per course, for an additional R100 - brilliant idea! Won't go into detail of what we ate - it was great - go try it out. Service was friendly and efficient. Detailed descriptions of each course and wine was provided. The chefs personally greeting all guests and serving courses was also a welcomed touch. Bravo Le Petite Maison!

La Petite Maison is situated in a prime location. The wine selection is fantastic, the ambience is perfect and the pork belly was out of this world! And not only was everything perfect, it was super affordable fine dining too. The perfect spot for a romantic, intimate evening.

Had a great meal here ... the wine was great and the food was awesome. They were even able accommodate our vegan dining companion without advance notice. Loved the tasting menu!

Best culinary experience I’ve had in a while. My girlfriend and I had the five course option and were blown away by each dish! Amazing flavors with 5 star execution. They even helped me surprise my girlfriend for her birthday celebrations!
