Review The Fat Fish - George

This came highly recommended and it was worth it. Amazing service by Cindy our waitress and the special of the day was fish and it was perfect. Good recommendations were also made on the wine list.

The place is great, the wait time was about 30 minutes,the server will(sorry if I forgot your name) was a great server, the the atmosphere was fine I don't really like music when eating but it's my problem,as seafood this was delicious and the mash potato as well,as a Muslim I would recommend this place for other Muslims for seafood.

It's simple, we love the fat fish! The staff are friendly and competent, the decor is trendy and cosy at the same time, the food is excellent and I'm particularly pleased that there are some original vegetarien dishes. We first went to the Fat Fish in 2017 and it's as good today as it was then. It's not often that you get this kind of consistency.

Hadn't been in quite some time. I ordered the battered Hake &chips. Best Hake I've had in years. Melted in my mouth, the batter wasn't greasy or over powering. Hubby had the Hake and Sesame calamari. Really unique dipping sauce - was super tasty. Pudding was also light and tasty. Good service and food came quickly. Will return.

Best Greek salad you’ll ever have! We always enjoy the seafood platter for 1 but tried out the grilled whole fish and it was so delicious! Always a treat visiting the fat fish

Best best best! We were just passing George and were in need of a good spot to meet with friends before taking to the road again and what a gem we found! We went by reviews and popularity and we were more than impressed! From the kind, welcoming and very happy waitress (LuLu) to the whole service, the menu, the wine list, the manger popping by to check on us to the amazing garden area outside, everything was ON POINT! The way the food is presented - mouth watering! And the taste - to die for! Absolute must! Will be coming back and will be recommending to all!

Fantastic food, friendly service by Bongi, relaxing atmosphere and an overall aesthetic pleasure! We ordered fish cakes and bobotie springrolls from the starters. The 3 fish cakes were packed with flavor and the springrolls accompanied by tomato and olive atchar did not disappoint! For mains we had the most succulent parmesan crusted grilled Kingklip with the perfect hint of chilli - the best we’ve ever tasted! Dessert was a tasteful journey of meringue, vanilla, banana and banana custard with grilled pineapple, whilst hubby enjoyed the double layer white and dark chocolate hazelnut tart with orange sorbet! We would give 10 🌟 if we could!! Definitely a new favorite 💞

What an amazing seafood restaurant! Hidden away from the main road, but yet such great atmosphere and service! A must for families and overseas visitors (like us). Also some of the best seafood we had in a long time (make sure to ask about the Parmesan chili crust for your fish). We will be back for sure!

Wow, wow, wow. Had dinner at the Fat Fish last night and I will be back. Probably as soon as possible. The location is cozy. The staff are awesome. The food is exceptional. Please do yourself a favor and go have a look for yourself. You will not be disappointed. I would personally recommend the dum sum (vegetarian) or bobotie spring rolls (sounds strange, but are absolutely morish) to start with. For mains, the fish and chips (they have a great lunch special running on that on Tuesdays and Thursdays FYI), the Burmese curry (a fish curry and, I would really recommend) or the fish and sesame crusted calamari (side note: order some fries, they're awesome). For dessert we had the banana malva (great!), the amaretto brulee (my personal favorite, perfect balance of flavour, texture and sweetness) and the Panna cotta. I could list a dozen more items that honestly delivered across the board. An impressive feat to accomplish both excellence and consistency thoughout.

Had our engagement celebration here... And what an experience. It definitely lived up to our expectations. Amazing food. Great efficient service and an all round great experience. Will definitely visit again!

Every visit is a memorable one! Delicious food, great service and overall my favorite restaurant in George! The seafood platter for two and the prawn starter are my favorites. The Thursday fish and chips special is also always a winner.

Can't remember when last we've had the PERFECT meal!!! Prawns...succulent and juicy...mossles in an amaaaaaazing white wine & coconut shaving sauce, and the fish...ahhhh...you can't get better!! Everything was unbelievable scrumptious, yummy, yummy YUM!!! William's attention to detail and service was absolutely unbelievable....we're planning to have date night more often!!! The seafood platter is worth every penny!!!

A good ol' reliable restaurant where you KNOW the food is excellent and the service friendly and efficient. The seafood is very fresh. The preparation and presentation is excellent. They have a good selection of wines and other drinks.

Brilliant cocktails (G&T based, with a huge selection)...<br/><br/>We had the salmon special and KingKlip off the menu, which was prepared perfectly...<br/><br/>Staff even assisted us without a booking (although I'd recommend one for peak days), and accommodated us around load-shedding and keeping the food perfectly prepared...<br/><br/>Can't wait to go back to try more of the menu out...

What a warm and welcoming eatery with a wonderful ambiance. The menu has something for everyone and a wine list to match. The Hake and chips ranks up there with the best - beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. The staff are very friendly and attentive - thank you Sarah for making us so welcome

Thanks to a friend living in George I had lunch at this beautiful restaurant. Please, do a favor to yourself and try the mussels but you’ll not be disappointed with the menu. Good wine selection... the deserts are to die for. Warm welcoming, design, attention to details. Good service... will come back for sure

Great friendly staff, restaurant gets busy so book. Fresh decor and good presentation of food. I had the mango fish curry, fish bit over cooked but a hearty meal ask for side of fresh chilly to add extra bite. A good choice for out of towners

Crusted Parmesan Kingclip is a must. Awesome venue and a must attend when in George. Well appointed and really a great venue. The waiter was on point and service was great.

The setting of the restaurant was very nice and our waiter was really friendly. <br/><br/>The menu is confusing and not user friendly. It was difficult to find things, and made the food picking unpleasant. <br/><br/>As starters my boyfriend and I had salmon fish cakes and pork dumplings. The salmon fish cakes were average and the dumplings were nothing to write home about. <br/><br/>As a main we had sushi and it was a disaster. The rice was sour and the fish was bland. I asked my boyfriend to taste it as I wanted to see if I wasn't being too taste sensitive, he agreed that something tasted sour. When I complained about it, the manager was nonchalant and told me that they tasted it in the kitchen and nothing was wrong with it. I was then asked if I wanted to order anything else, but I was so put off I couldn't eat anything else. <br/><br/>The food is expensive for what you get and I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for good sushi. Ocean basket is a better bet for that kind of thing.

The Fat Fish is truly one of my favourite seafood restaurants. The best beer batter hake I have ever had in my life.  Their sushi and coctail specials are also a great idea.

Good food and a pleasant setting made for a very enjoyable dinner. Had the chicken espatada for starters which was delicious. The mains of fish was good, but not outstanding. Would visit again on another trip to George.

A great restaurant. While it might look small from the outside, don't be mistaken as there is plenty of room on the inside.<br/><br/>Very friendly staff and a great layout with a cozy and an overall warm feeling to the venue. There was even a nice little bar section.<br/><br/>Even though I initially felt like going out for steak, I did not feel unsatisfied when I ended up ordering a fish meal. The fish was amazing and had tons of flavor. The sushi was also above average and well presented.<br/><br/>Unfortunately I felt like the layout of the menu took away from the overall experience. I spent a while looking at the mune and nothing seemed to catch my attention, therefore I settled for plain old fish and chips... a better layout might have made me feel a bit more adventurous while ordering. However the fish and chips were the best i have had, so definitely not dissatisfied :)

The food was very nice. I recommend the sushi🍣 and cheese🍰 cake but of course anything else works well and its at a beautiful place so if your hungry you know were to go!😀

We had chosen The Fat Fish in George after reading Zomato reviews. And thank you Zomato, it was a lovely evening. Friendly wellcome and service. Great ambience and the splendid live music added to our enjoyment.<br/>Sushi - salmon roses were fresh & tasty. Three giant tempura prawns with a sweet chilli dipping sauce were hubby's delicious starter.<br/>Fresh hake, perfectly fried, crunchy fried calamari, handcut potato chips and wasabi mayo were a winning combination. The Kingklip dusted with chilli too. Coconut Creme Caramel was covered in "drunken litchies" - litchies soaked in brandy - yum yum!<br/>When in George, do not hesitate to choose The Fat Fish for a delicious meal.<br/>

We visited the Father Fish twice in December and both times had a wonderful meal. The sushi was worth driving for as well as the prawns. Also caters for vegetarians. Being back in George again....we'll be visiting.

Modern restaurant with great decor. <br/>A good wine list as well!<br/><br/>For starters we had the tempura prawns, very nice!<br/><br/>The sushi is fresh and very tasty. We had the salmon platter which consisted of salmon roses, salmon maki and salmon california rolls.<br/><br/>The chilli chocolate mousse was divine. Just a hint of chilli to break the sweetness, its a great end to the meal.

Excellent service and menu with unique variety and focus on making it special. The concept is proven in Plettenberg and seamlessly introduced in George. A good experience overall!
