I really don't have words to decribe first of all the friendliness, professionalism and patience of the staff. We were a big party, half of which got loud during the course of the evening but the staff! Oh my word! They just took it all in their stride. Thank you Reuben's for that. The food... was magnificent! No seasoning needed on any of my dishes, and a surprise with every bite. I had the beetroot cured salmon poke bowl and the risotto... I did not for one second regret my decision to not have the beef cheeks or line fish because that risotto.... was delicious. I think those around me wanted to change their orders rather. I wish I could have thanked the chef personally but alas, I could not. The entire kitchen staff kept the Reuben's flag flying high as I'm sure they do every night. Thank you for the hospitality and food Reuben's Restaurant Franschoek.
People forget what dining is about sometimes.
There’s something in Reuben’s dishes and atmosphere that touches a ‘home-ness’; that togetherness of grandma’s cooking and kitchen table memories we long for, and cherish in life. A dna-ish/eish memory that is embedded in cultures around the world. Essentially a summary of how to be in life and how societies should be. Love. Life. Share. Togetherness.
If there’s one thing it’s given me, it is the idea to create selections / awards for restaurant / dishes that bring up that feeling.
Because in essence - it bonds - and can’t be stopped - across income and across cultures.
And is that not the real essence of a meal together?
Walk in Reuben's and you see the cellar, displaying a selection of wines. We didn't have a booking and were seated in the smaller area which is abit bleak.
Some breads and butter and served complimentary. We opted for just mains, the chicken curry with prawns and the special of ribeye. My ribeye was under, but a quick toss and it was perfect medium, served with pepper sauce and truffle fries, absolutely delicious. The curry was good, not spicy at all, I could have done with some heat. Service is excellent and next time we in area we be sure to book.
It's the best restaurant in town. Immediately, from the very first sip of the Hot and Sour Prawn and Tomato Soup, I can see and taste the real deal. The sour sets my mouth on fire, and the hot is a glorious burn. There's a real passion in this soup, from the slurpable al dente udon to the succulent shrimp, and the tomato tang just amplifies the explosion.
