Review Cantina Tequila - Durbanville

The food here is truly good and affordable. The service is really good, they have indoor heaters which are amazing for cold winter nights they serve cocktails, "hard liquor" and beer. It is usually empty during the week so sometimes they close the kitchen early its best to call them first to check their operating hours. There is no need to make reservations unless you have a big group of people. It is not wheelchair accessible nor is it child friendly. On Fridays and weekends they stick to their usual times.

One of the hottest places in Cape Town. The food is firstly out of this world. Well priced and offers real value for money. The dance floor is electric and will keep you dancing till all hours of the night. The bar caters for some of the best cocktails and Cantina Tequila offers an all round experience under one roof. So if you out for a party, come hungry and don’t forget your dancing shoes. Word has it the the new menu was designed by one of the best young Chefs in Cape Town - Garth Johnson. His inventive, culinary skills has delivered some awesome new tastes and will have you wanting more. So visit one of Cape Towns hippest and vibist places.

Great service. Nice variety on new cocktails and classic cocktails as well! Food good to share for 2-3 people. Nice chill place to go after a long day at work or at class. Good vibe music as well. After 22:30-23:00 it's good for dancing and having a great time On the dance floor.

Food is good. Happy hour on Saturday between 5 and 6. Great for the first half of the rugby on the big screen.

I had an awesome experience with a group of 7 other friends. Our waiter, Michael I think, took really good care of us. He made sure that we all had something to drink throughout the evening. He was really friendly and gave good recommendations for the drinks and food. It is a very cosy and like they say in Afrikaans "gesellige" place. I really like the warm atmosphere and the nice heaters for these winter days. The food was really nice and most of it had a nice chilly flavour, but not too much. I can't wait to go again and order those platters to share!

Great place. Bartenders are so friendly too. They are quite a tease, they even called me on my full name when I drunk. Good laugh. Totally will go here again. Thanks for the great night.

We normally take their 1kg wings and bacon wrapped jelepeno popers 🤤 🤤 🤤. Its is absolutely delicious 😋. Only one suggestion, it would be nice if u can half half the wings with 2 different flavors. Be careful of the very hot wings... 😏 As for they are very hot 🔥 🤤 🤤 🤤

Service is incredible, staff are so accomodating, friendly and fast. Food is delicious, drinks are great. Perfect place for pub grill platters and margarita jugs if you're in the Northen suburbs. Bar area usually has a dj If you're up for a bit of a jol but eating areas are chilled enough to have conversation. Affordable

One of the first places we visited after moving to the Northern Suburbs, have been back many times, always a great friendly vibe. Staff are amazing and chatty, the lady manager is so attentive and always walking about. Food is great, the popcorn butter chicken is addictive! Especially with the blue cheese sauce. Very good value for money and they always have awesome specials. Killer place and looking forward to going back.

Its a nice dive, great food. I really love the mexican food choices. I go there often but their drinks are relative in price. They have cool specials on drinks which makes it better. Only problem is the music is too loud over weekend which is cool if you want to party, but to have a meal... not so much

Okay so Im an ex-employee at Cantina Tequila was an Head Bartender there created the existing cocktail menu was an huge firs time success for me and i myself love the cocktails i decided to go there for lunch with my partner and all the staff knows me there well at least most of them as i arrived no one was at the door to even welcome me never mind that i ordered an Captain Grapefruit my personal Favorite and everyone there knows i created that cocktail so as i ordered it by the bartender(Johan) he asked me if i really want that because that is a really k*k cocktail knowing it will upset me i left it and on top commented that it sells the least i told him to leave it( so either he was really lazy and didn't want to make the cocktail or to make me really upset) then i stood up and went to management (Shanna) and she didn't even have a comment against it so that is when i decided to leave on my way put i walk past the owner (Garth) as i got to my scooter he called me back and asked what was the problem the i told him and his reply was that what was i suppose to expect im an ex- employee and not a customer( just note Ive supported them by spending money there even after i resigned several times ) and that he never wants to see me there again and Im not welcome .. beside the fact that hes been a complete a$$&@ about the situation if work the almost a year and a half and did a lot for them recruiting really good bartenders and organize the whole bar setup and display witch took me months and to setup an whole cocktail menu from scratch and changes months pf stress and hard word i was always there and some promises wasn't even kept so yes that is how my day started...

Ate at Cantina Tequila yesterday and I was super disappointed. Had a chicken quesadilla but it tasted like tuna. Could not even bring myself to eating half the food and I was starving. Then had the steak burrito and it was filled with steak and onions and peppers, only. Tasted like soup and pie mixed together. Only thing I enjoyed was my margarita. Won’t be going back, ever.

The updated menu is incredible and offers something for everyone. New staff and management are friendly and eager to be of service. The cocktails go great with the live music and modern Mexican atmosphere.

Our new regular spot. Great for after work drinks or a casual dinner. Love the Paloma’s! The cheese and beef tacos are a must try. Haven’t been for two weeks and already suffering from withdrawal!

We have dined at Cantina Tequila a few times now. Every time has been an absolute treat! The owners have always made us feel welcome and comfortable and the waiters are efficient and friendly. The food though is the reason we go there! Every dish we’ve ordered off the extensive menu has been phenomenal! The dishes are pure delicious! We’ve had some of the platters, the tacos, nachos and burgers and have absolutely loved every bite! We look forward to our next visit at Cantina!

I have always found cantina tequila as a great place to unwind and have a great time. However my recent experience has been one which will most likely be the reason I and many of my friends, family and colleagues will not be going to cantina again. We ordered both our drinks and food at the same time. The drinks firstly was watered down and they took roughly 25 minutes to bring it to us. They got our food order completely wrong after waiting another 45 minutes to get it. Finally when we decided to leave we waited another 20 minutes for the bill. Eventually we just got up to pay ourselves.<br/><br/>I cannot say how disappointed and off putting this experience has been. A 1 star rating is still more than is deserved

Service was good, my only problem was when I ordered my food, it didn't specify on the menu that it was spicy, and it was SUPER spicy, but my friends who like spicy food enjoyed it! The non-spicy food that I have tried though, is really good too (just be sure to check with the waiter if it's spicy or not before you order).

Food very disappointing. Quesadillas with pulled pork was 2mm thick, for R92, salad had 1 cocktail tomato in it. Not worth it. Sorry to do this.

Went for cocktails. Service poor to non-existent, long wait for drinks, cocktails tasted like those pre-mixed 5L boxes very watery, taste-indistinct and tons of crushed ice; although pretty looking. I just took out all the ice with my hand into the ashtray<br/><br/>Yeah, loved going to this place but I'm not sure anymore. I think management has changed<br/><br/>

My first visit to cantina was in December 2016, the food was fantastic with extremely generous portions. My latest visit though in December 2017 was rather disappointing. The nachos were dry with a bland tasteless salsa. The pulled pork tacos were ok but nothing spectacular. Such a disappointment after my initial visit

Went for supper this evening with my wife to one of our most enjoyable dinning places, that we've been loyal customers for around 11 years to date. Ordered the usual Margherita's which surprisingly was absolutely HORRIBLE ( op was water ). Ordered another just to be sure it wasn't a mistake but received the same horrible "jik" water concoction. Brought this to the managers attention who in return sent a message with our waiter merely stating that it's a NEW Recipe. Left it and Decided to place meal  order and noticed that the menu is now a cheap laminated double a4 page. Starters , Mains , Deserts and drinks are all on these two pages and you can count on your one hand the options available for each course, with burgers being the majority of the lot. Ordered Nachos and a Classic Platter which was very bland and unappetising. VERY DISSAPOINTED , A ONES BRILLIANT MEXICAN RESTAURANT TOTALLY DESTROYED !!

My hubby took me and the kids for lunch and it was great, a bit quiet but the food, service and music was great. I absolutely love the frozen margs and the nachos are a must if you visit!

Always love coming here! I have been here since the old Waterfront days and the food is always good and service on par. I took my family for lunch and my kids enjoyed the new milkshake flavours and home made ice cream. The wife and I had some cocktails and the frozen margaritas are the best in town. Nacho;'s were as good as ever and the chicken wings remain a favorite. We tried a few of their new dishes and the calamari and tacos are a winner. Will be back soon!

The burgers are great. the one I had didn't come with bread (The Leaf burger) and had avocado and crispy onions on top of it. My friend said his calamari was the best he has had and the taco starter was also very good. A guy called Mike was our waiter and suggested the frozen margarita, it was worth it. Great view from the balcony and a good vibe.

I had a great time here with my wife last night. I hadn't been since it was in Edward Street and while I never had a bad experience there before, it wasn't my first choice to be honest. They have new owners who came around to check that everything was OK. I ordered a Paloma cocktail, which wasn't really to my personal liking but wasn't bad (gave it to my wife who liked it). The Nacho's and chili poppers haven't changed since the old menu. I had the Calamari starter which was amazing, it has a sesame dressing and is very tasty. My wife had a bunless burger that gets served in lettuce cups which also went down very well. If you can get a table on the veranda section the view is really amazing at sunset!

I have been here a few times, and can notice the changes since the new owners. The food has changed drastically but is very good. The cocktail menu has also changed, it is a lot smaller but they have some tasty options. They also have a happy hour every weekday. They have removed a lot of the platters from the menu, but i tried some of the smaller items instead and they were amazing, especially the mini tacos and the fries with cheese sauce and pulled pork. Ask for Eloise to serve you.

For the past few years being a regular at Cantina Tequila, it has been awesome. Recently things changed as it appears that there are now new owners. Cantina Tequila is no longer the same and in my opinion made a very bad choice. Cocktail menu has changed drastically and no longer has the delicious cocktails that were always on the menu and not to mention the food menu. In my opinion, you guys made a bad move.

I visited the place to meet up with a friend and have some cocktails. The food was ok and I enjoyed the atmosphere. I was quite irritated by the waiter though because he was at our table every 10 minutes. While we're eating, while we're talking. The cocktails were so watered down. I was drinking more melted ice than alcohol which to me is a rip off. Cocktails are expensive. I'll go again but not for the cocktails.

Friends and I popped in during the week for a catch up drink. Unfortunately we were too late for Happy Hour (until 6pm). We still ordered cocktails though and also ordered a meal to share. There is a great special - if you order a main meal you get a starter for free! We ordered chicken nachos and jalapeno poppers. The poppers were incredibly spicy but probably the best I have ever had! And I liked that each nacho chip had its own topping, leaving no dry nachos left over. The service was great and the view even as well. I look forward to visiting again!

Stopped here for a quick drink and snack after shopping. I must say the new location, look and feel is a lot better than the old one. I ordered a long island ice tea, and wife ordered a cocktail as well. My long island was smaller than expected, and had a lot of ice but it tasted good. <br/><br/>Wife had the starter nachos, the portion is quite small and the nacho chips weren't crispy. They also put salsa in the guacamole which she didn't enjoy. It's more salsa than avo. I decided not to have something but had the choc brownie dessert. I really enjoyed it and would return just for that. Sort of a mixed bag kind of experience.

Always so satisfied!!! I LOVE MEXICAN, especially if its as good as Cantina's. Real nachos with super creamy cream cheese, and their chilli poppers are a must try, wrapped in filo-pastry. Furthermore do they have a big variety of cocktails. Service are always friendly and speedy. Really affordable prices for what you get.

Didn't enjoy dining here: it's dirty, the drinks are average the food isn't the best Mexican Food I have ever tasted and it's lacking in the way of atmosphere

If you enjoy a variety of Mexican food then this is the place to check out, the food and cocktails are delicious, slow service at times but when the food and cocktails arrive you kinda forget about it. Later the evening the DJ comes out and you will find yourself in the dance floor. They open from the morning until late and they have cocktail hour during the day. I always order the platters as it has a variety of edibles, the "Gringo" is a mix of the fiesta and Mexican platter that is filled with nachos, wings, ribs, calamari, quesadillas, beef and chicken fajitas, soft tortillas ans tacos served with beans and chips and rice. It's must try with frozen margaritas :-)

Great cocktail specials, prices that allow you to enjoy your colourful drink without any guilt, and tasty food; what’s not to love! I've been there twice with colleagues after work. Once the service was ok, the second time it was great. Guess it depends on the waiter…But we've already agreed that this is our drinks-after-work spot.Occasionally you hear some Latin American songs, and the decor looks like what we as South Africans would imagine Latin American restaurants look like. The music is a little too late for just after work, but that's just my opinion. <br/>If you’re looking for good cocktails at reasonable prices, head over to Cantina for some tasty Margheritas!

Great vibe, but the barmen are thieves by over charging on my drinks then later say it's a mistake, yet every week is the exact same story.

My only experiences at Cantina have been during the day or right after work because it's conveniently located close to where I work, so I don't know if my timing has just been off, or if there's just no good time to visit this strange establishment. <br/><br/>Why strange? The decor makes you feel like you're in a Tarantino movie gone bankrupt, the service is really bad; the waiters don't know a thing and are slower than blind snails. Also, the music is always so loud that the next day, I feel a frog in my throat from screaming at my friends across the table. <br/><br/>The food is okay. It's neither bad nor great. And they do have nice cocktail specials until 6pm. But overall when I tell someone I've been to Cantina, I cringe a little on the inside.

Not a very good experience, nothing like the Mexican restaurants in the southern suburbs or town. I felt robbed of a night out, it was a complete waste of time and money! Worse margaritas ever.

This was below par experience, new venue but the food was substandard. I would not recommend this place to any if they want the Mexican experience. I didn't expect to have fish and chips when I ordered a Mexican platter.

Went for lunch the other day. Good vibe, with good service. The menu has some nice options. Also if you like a very chilled place for lunch be sure not to miss happy hour, seems to be most of the afternoon. Had the Jalapeno poppers with mixed chees and bacon. The poppers do not have much of a bite, seems it is not easy to find hot poppers these days, then again it is good to know just about anyone can experience the joys of a popper without crying due to being on fire. Also had the mince Quesadilla, this was done reallg well, but would have liked more filling. Overall a really nice spot to just have a good relaxed time.

Service was fantastic, super friendly and helpful staff. Our waitress did get offish however, when my friend complained about his food. I did enjoy my food however. Atmosphere was also great (playing some good tunes). All in all, I will definitely be coming back.

A friend recommended that I to come here. The place was pretty empty upon arrival and the service a little switched off. The cocktails were interesting, but far too sweet. Portions were tiny compared to other Mexican restaurants, and the manger a bit offish (visited every table but ours).

Awesome revamp from the old decor as the previous club to this elegant little restaurant. Extremely friendly staff and the food is proper, well priced and very tasty. The cocktails are awesome and the music and ambiance is very inviting... will defs do it again

It's average... the food was ok (the chilli poppers where a bit strange not too sure what the batter around them was) also had a hair on my one chicken wing... (manager took it away and replaced and was super friendly - service was great!) food was quite oily and prices on menu was more than what I was charged which was strange. The staff are attentive and except for you having to shout at the people around your table... the ambiance was not too bad. Would like some seafood options for the tacos like prawns and calamari and fish. I think I will be back (grilled calamari was very nice)

First time at this place....new revamped from the old Eastwoods....device is good people friendly but the food...........not that great.had a burger...bun is falling apart....but not bad just thought new venue and things would of been; n par......
