Review Rusty Oak - Durbanville

Initially we were a little reluctant to try this restaurant as some of the reviews weren't great , however there were some really good reviews as well. So we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt ... and we were pleasantly surprised. The Jalapeno poppers were tasty and freshly made , the fried calamari starter tender and portion decent in size , the creamy fettucceni really delicious and rump steak perfectly done and juicy ( not needing any sauce ). An overall decent tasty filling meal experience at a fair price.

Lovely cosy restaurant, food was superb and our waitress was friendly. Nice to chat, however the music and tv kept being turned up and we had to request a few times for it to be turned down so we could hear our fellow diners. The roosterkoek is not really roosterkoek but a bun cooked on a grill.

We went there for breakfast exactly a year ago to the day in November and it was awful. We went back this November and the breakfast was fantastic. Was very quiet but it was such a beautiful day and we opted to sit outside. Food was very reasonably priced aswell. We had a breakfast, eggs Benedict, strawberry shake and a latte, portion of chips(huge) tip included it only cost R250. Service was good too.

Absolute phenomenal experience at Rusty Oak Bistro today. It was My Mum's 60th Birthday and altogether we were about 30. From preparations over emails and calls from Ashleigh (Manageress) to going through to the venue to set up earlier - Fantastic customer service! There was honestly no fault. The food was divine, music perfect, our waitress Nicole was just perfect! She ran around so much for us making sure every single person was happy with drinks and food. I am coming back to Rusty Oak Bistro for my 30th Birthday in August and I just cannot wait! Thank you so much from myself, My Family and all our Friends! 5/5 Everything!

We had our company Christmas lunch yesterday. Everyone was happy with their meal. I had the steak. The basting sauce is amazing! The dead flowers on the tables looked awful....you can do better.

New spot to have a beer, brekkie, burger or best pizza. Mervyn our host was on point at all times. We also met Rayne who gave us the full monty of what Fire Craft Restaurant is all about.

A sweet and cosy restaurant, beautifully decorated. Fit for a romantic dinner or just a night out. Delicious food and friendly staff.

We had such a wonderful time here! The staff were all so friendly and lovely, especially our waiter, David. The burgers made it to our top 5 most amazing burgers ever!! Will definitely visit again.

Decided to try Fire Craft after seeing a post on Facebook. Initially I was irritated because you didn't have a few items I wanted. That said, when the meal came, we really enjoyed the quality and quantity of the food. I would definately recommend and be back to try other dishes. Two small constructive criticisms: Waiters should tell you about items not available before you set your heart on something and please check your menus before daily service. Due to their design, some have acquired duplicate pages and others have missing pages altogether.

Went to Fire Craft as it is now known for the first time last night for dinner. Seated inside and was a very pleasant, cozy atmosphere. Service was friendly and food was delicious and in very generous portions. Outside also looks nicely set up and look forward to coming back

I was blown away by the Fire Craft beef burger! The best burger that I have ever had, huge portions and lots of flavour. A lovely peaceful setting away from the hustle and bustle that normaly goes with a restuarant. Friendly staff making us feel very welcome, with loads of safe secure parking on the grounds and place for kids to play under the trees. We will be back soon for another. Well done to the team at Fire Craft.

Very pleasant restaurant with great service and awesome atmosphere. The manager Mongezi was superb and really friendly. Their seafood meals need serious upgrading in preparation but their burgers meals was excellent. I will definitely recommend to visit.

Pleasant surprise to enjoy such lovely food and good service here. Well worth supporting this team.

The experience was lovely, with attentive waitering staff.<br/><br/>The portions are healthy, the taste - impeccable. Had the Carbonara, which felt like the royal majesty of all the past meals I have had before it.<br/><br/>The venue itself is charming, with a nice range of music playing in the background. You might catch yourself singing along at some point.<br/><br/>Kudos to the owners! A lovely experience indeed.

Phenomenal little gem.<br/><br/>When I went to Cape Town, I had lunch with my mom. The food is sooo good, big portions, great quality and the prices are amazing.<br/><br/>We took my dad that same evening because it was such an amazing experience.<br/><br/>Will definitely recommend and will definitely be back every time!<br/><br/>Salmon was to die for!

Food was good however the experience was ruined by a rude manager who felt the need to exercise his authority over his employees infront of us. He addressed staff infront of us which was very inappropriate he raised his voice

Would never recommend this place. The service is non existent, wrong course and food arrived at the table. The first course arrived before we even had drinks served. The beetroot risotto was way under cooked. Dessert was soggy, can see the food was plated in advance and is only served later. This place would never see me again. <br/><br/>

Very disappointing!<br/>Ordered spice gold, got dark rum. Waitress said yeah but you ordered Captain Morgan...<br/>Ordered pork belly and got two very small pieces on the plate. The one piece was only fat and the other piece was half fat and half meat. I decided to exchange it for the chicken schnitzel. Didnt get my baby potatoes and broccoli stem as per the menu.<br/>Decided not to pay for my meal or drink. Paid for my girlfriend's food and left. Got KFC.<br/>Will never return!!!<br/><br/>Owner / Mangement has no idea what he/she is doing.

Never again. Worst pizza ever, wish I've checked the reviews before going.<br/><br/>The restaurant has no atmosphere, it looks neglected and tables were very dirty- sauce splatters covering the whole surface. <br/><br/>The bacon on the pizza was scorched and the pineapple was off. <br/><br/>The owner either has no idea what he is doing, or couldn't care less.  Everything about the restaurant sends the message that whoever is in charge, doesn't care.

I made a reservation yesterday morning via the internet for the same evening, which was dealt with quickly and without issues (thank you Charl). We arrived at 18:30 and was promptly shown to our table by a very friendly waitress. Ordered the snails, bacon and cheese starter - worth every sent, it was delicious. We opted for the signature dishes - the Eisbein and Pork Belly. Both dishes was really nice, good portion size and presented well - we weren't in a hurry so we didn't really time the dishes. Overall experience was a great evening out with very good food and friendly attentive service. We'll definately visit again.

We went there yesterday for lunch. Table of 10. Kids had a blast as usual, but that’s the only good thing I can say. Drinks order took over half an hour to arrive (the place was half-empty so no idea why). My ceasar salad & a friend’s steak arrived first. Steak was sent back, it was supposed to be medium, it was blue. Half an hour later the rest of the food started to slowly trickle out. Another steak sent back, it was supposed to be 300grams, it was about 50 (not exaggerating here!). One eisbein sent back as it was very clearly off (the smell!). 2 tomato based pastas arrived with cream sauce. Waitress tried very hard to correct everything but it was an absolute nightmare. Manager was clearly in WAY over his head & had no clue what to do. Will not be returning in a hurry.

Been here before in 2016, had an amazing rib eye, came back in 2017. Worst dinning experience ever. Get told that a beer promo flyer means the table is reserved, wtf since when. Then order a medium rare steak only to have it come blue rare. In my younger days I’ve ordered Blue steaks many times before but this blue steak tasted off as if this cow was once a week old roadkill that was found by Rusty Oak and served blue. Disgusting!!!The Manager doesn’t give a damn. No apology just “is there something else the kitchen can make” yes make me a damn time machine so I can go back in time and never come back to your crap restaurant

Not too shabby (different)<br/>The party started at 12:30 and as usual...we're late😬<br/>We ordered about 10 mins after we arrived and the reason for the mention was that we got our meals at the same time the other guests got there's🤔and they ordered a while before us.<br/>Service slow, and our waitress took long on drinks orders and kids were reaching for a 1ltr water I carry around in my bag🤦‍♀️<br/>Hubbles ordered the Rump Steak and it was really good, I ordered the Spare Ribs tasty but not "ooohhh lala"<br/>Kids had 🍔 and other 🍕...not too bad either. They could definitely do more on food presentation 2.5/5 food 3/5 <br/>On a brighter note, definitely kid friendly...you'd be able to enjoy a meal knowing your kid is safe👍🏻<br/>

Great food, nice place for kids. Swimming pool, jungle gum, trampoline and a huge open space for outdoor games. Perfect for pool parties and birthday parties. Bring the kids and have a nice time. It's a must go!

I have no words for the utter disaster this place is. Look, I am easy to please; good service, good food, good vibes. <br/>From the get go no one greets you at the door: the decor is so drab it could put you to sleep. <br/>Our server is probably a really nice person, but is so incompetent he could be the president. <br/>Our drinks took forever and a day, they had almost no wine in stock. <br/>After an hour and a half, our food arrived. Starters and mains at once.<br/>Given, the portions are really big, but the food is very average, if not bad. <br/>The surf and turfs were cold and not a single chip ordered in sight. The calamari was so tough.. I can't even think of a clever remark.<br/>The Texan something brisket pizza was a train wreck: cheap cheese, just huge chunks mystery meat sparsely scattered over the orange pizza.<br/>The burger was dry and charred and just damn boring. <br/>The garlic snails.. well there were no snails under on the plate, just some garlic and cheese. <br/>The one portion of jalapeño poppers never came. <br/>There was a buffet, but after seeing the sad state of the food, we gave it a miss.<br/><br/>Rusty Oak, please get it together.

Went there for the burgers for a 2nd time and enjoyed it alot. Huge portions with lots of salad , not just a piece of tomato & a slice of cucumber, but almost a full green salad. Compared to a Spur burger , you'll think Spur is ripping you off , because it's almost the same price. Make sure to ask how the patty must be done.

So we had the breakfast buffet one morning and I was not impressed. When we entered the restaurant it felt like self-service setting because no one seated us, greeted or even acknowledged our presence until we approached them. Also, none of the food was prepared properly, the scrambled eggs were still runny and on the raw side and the bacon was more like polony from not frying long enough only to make a few examples. Otherwise the place is beautiful and has a lot of potential but they won't be seeing me any time soon.

Great for kids as they have a pool and loads of space to play. Service is however slow when it's busy and food is inconsistent. Sometimes the food is really good, other times average.

Came with my wife for dinner. Ordered the famous bunny chows. Curry was not hot but sweet, the bread was not freshly baked as promised. The only good thing about the meals were the fries and side salad. Not the go to place for a bunny chow.

Lovely venue if you have kids and all the time in the world. If you want to eat within 90 minutes of ordering, or want good service, or a manager/supervisor that cares, rather give it a miss.

We've been to Rusty Oak last week for breakfast. We had the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict and the Bacon Bits Eggs Benedict. Both were big portions and really nice.Yesterday we spent the day at the restaurant and with our daughter at the swimming pool.My daughter and I shared the savoury mince on toast for breakfast. For lunch we had the pulled pork nacho's. Generous portions and very tasty.The only negative: Some attention to décor in the restaurant is much needed as it is outdated.Overall experience: Very pleasant and relaxing atmosphere with GOOD food. Nice play area for children. Will definitely visit frequently. Note: The menu currently on Zomato is still the old menu.

About 2 weeks ago, the spur of the moment 2 girlfriends and I decided to try out this spot for dinner and drinks. We were surprised at how empty it was. Our waiter was attentive (in fact all the staff were pretty friendly and chatty) and happily changed all the linens when I knocked my wine over (oops perhaps too much wine). My friend and I had the pulled pork burgers and the other lady ordered the mussel pot. The food was excellent and really huge portions. Ended up taking half of it home because I really wanted to try the "pampoen tert". Sadly there was none and I settled for the apple crumble. Once again a huge portion but slightly too sweet for my liking (was I too heavy handed with that butterscotch sauce??) Perhaps a smidge of cream or ice cream should be served with this. My friend enjoyed her creme brulee. I really have to go back for that tert. All in all a pleasant experience. Really value for money. I'll be back tomorrow for breakfast 😊

This has literally been the worst experience I have ever had, I eat and review places on a daily basis and have never encountered a place thats worse! I would not recommend this to anyone! Think before you eat!

At a work conference here all week, so haven't really chosen to eat here. But, as far as large group catering goes, lunch was not bad - actually half a notch above the usual "canteen" style. The venue is pretty, worth considering for a random function perhaps.

Slow service. Below average food. Won't be back. Mussels weren't fresh. Wine and garlic 'broth' resembled instant packet soup. Chicken ('Cajun') pita was lacking Cajun spice and instead was just seriously overloaded with chilli instead. Save yourself the trouble. Disappointed.. Really nice venue.<br/><br/>Update - 22 August, 2016<br/>Tried restaurant again, since the group I was with love/(d) the place. Floor manager was smoking, one table away from us, with the breeze pulling his smoke across our table half the time (seated under tent, next to entrance). Thought I'd try the "Build your own Basket" option - Paid R110 for 3 crumbed mushrooms, 3 crumbed, stuffed mini-peppers and a mini portion of chips (this is not a "basket"). My girlfriend's chicken schnitzel was bone-dry. I couldn't cut through it with her steak-knife. She could not eat it and neither could I. Two of my friends had to return their burgers, as the meat was rubbery and inedible. Really wanted to give this place a second chance :(  Disappointed

Really poor spot. Bad service, bad food. Ordered a pulled pork burger which came as a beef burger with some bacon slices. Good was delivered one by one over a period of 15 minutes. Only about 20 people in restaurant. Do yourself a favor, give this spot a miss.

This is a very beautiful venue for functions or birthdays. The food is excellent! There is always good service with friendly welcoming. This venue is the best at night and gives a great vibe. #ZomatoTopStar
