Review S43 - Durban

First time visiting Spiga, everyone that lives in Durban raves about how good the food is here, and they did not disappoint. The pastas were on point, very tasty and cooked to perfection. Large portions for the price. Definitely recommend the place if you visiting Durban. There is also a nice park across the road with a mini zoo and lovely gardens to walk around after the meal.

Service was amazing. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu, so when I told her what I wanted she combined 2 dishes to make me exactly what I wanted. It came out divine. Hubby also loved his food. Atmosphere was good but started getting cold.. which didn't last long because they turned on the heaters and it became comfortable in no time. Will definitely be going there again. Cheers to the Spiga team.

Popped in for a quick takeaway and was promptly assisted. Both food and service was really good and really enjoyed the vibe of the outdoor deck whilst waiting for my order. I look forward to returning for a sit down experience.

Service is always great!! Staff are fantastic! The seating arrangement is spot on, one can sit outside and basking in the Durban sun whilst looking at your vehicle whilst having a great time. Pizza was great Drinks were great!!!

I visited Spiga on a random Friday night after having driven down to Durban from Johannesburg. We were staying in Musgrave and had no idea where to go for dinner. My brother recommended this place and it didn't disappoint especially after a 6 hour drive. I don't know if it ever gets cold in Durban but the breeze on the night wasn't a factor because this inviting restaurant has indoor and outdoor heating. There was a family next to our table wearing shorts in June. So you'll probably be fine if your underdressed. To eat we went for the Spicy Salami Pizza and my partner had the Penne Romana. The pizza was good but the pasta really made me give this place five stars. The Romana sauce paired with well cooked and seasoned penne and mushrooms will make any date night a memorable experience. I don't usually order pasta when I am out because most of the time I feel like I could have done it better at home. But Spiga's pasta is well worth it. The service was friendly and also helpful when I didn't know what wine to have. The house red is well worth it if you just want something to go with the meal. My only criticism is that they didn't have locally produced sparkling water. I am not that big on san pellegrino water because restaurants just charge a fortune for it. Total spend for two was under R500 with a take away tiramisu and the two glasses of wine so good value for money. Spiga you win my vote.

This is such a great place for a relaxed dinner date or for those work team buildings. We had a blast. Our waitress Faith was amazing and made us laugh any chance she got. She recommended good drinks and food. She is definitely a star🌟. The only issue would be that the restaurant is in high demand and unfortunately it not big enough to fit all patrons looking to buy. So, I guess y'all have to get here early

Service was quick. Waiters and waitresses were nice and friendly. Only that our original waiter disappeared. We waited for a bit of time wthout anyone coming to us. We had to call another lady to wait on us. But otherwise everything else was good.

Best Italian place in Durbz. Go check. Excellent cuisine. Every product is fresh. The staff is lovely and they know how to make you feel in Italy. La Pizza Mafiosa ia a must for all you avo lovers!

Awesome, Awesome experience! It was my first at Spiga, and I must say, it was an amazing restaurant. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the food was scrumptious. I Reserved a table the day before and got a really nice spot. I do think the portion sizes could be bigger though, other than that, definitely coming back. Shoutout to Busi, our waiter 🙌

They had a great menu and great specials also the Irish red is the most amazing beer... only thing I was disappointed with was the portion sizes. I ordered the chicken tacos and I was served 3 tiny little soft tacos on a wooden board, I honestly thought it was starters and asked if this was the meal, sadly that was it. The food was great but I was left hungry after my meal... next time I'll get a burger.

The warm welcome when you enter, the friendly staff and the ambiance was great...the service with Summer our waitress was excellent. I enjoyed the food ...the chicken livers was really good, I'm not a burger person I would like a bit more variety on the other dishes. The live music with David and Kerry doing their tribute to Ella Fitzgerald was fantastic. A good night all round ...I'll definitely be back.

S43 is my husband's second home. I joined them last night and had the best time. The vibe is great, the food is delicious (best ribs I've ever eaten), and the staff are exceptional! 100% recommended!

That Irish Red ale is the BEST beer I have ever had in my life! The food is amazing, and being vegan it's so awesome that this restaurant offers vegan friendly options too. The staff are bubbly, and on our first visit Paul treated us to an entertaining and knowledgable tour of the brewery. How awesome is that! S43 is my new fav restaurant.

Our 2nd visit in 10 days says it all. We went on #1thursday and the food was amazing. It was effortless going again on Saturday with special friends as we knew it would be a hit with them Again a warm friendly welcome. Our host and hostess were incredibly attentive Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks and vowed to be back. The secret to this place is constant super service from the time you walk in until you leave.

We had a superb time at S43, at a recent private function. The food, ambience, decor, friendly attitude of staff, music by the Kickstands and outstanding service was 1st class - totally worthy of a 5 star rating. Restaurant guru's Sean and his wife, Marcelle have created a world class experience in a beautiful and historic setting - a must visit for any local or foreign foodie who appreciates the good things in life. Sean and Paul of That Brewing Company have set up its own inhouse brewery with fine craft beer on tap, which is a first for Durban and adds another dimension to this winning formula. To Sean, Marcelle, Jooma and the rest of the ever so helpful team, a BIG THANK YOU for making over 100 people feel so special.

Seriously, we need to find a way to make Irish red a commercial beer. It is by far the best beer I have ever had. Can we not get a widget designed for the canning of this amazing beer. I know about 20 mates that would agree .... Hands down. Make it happen S43!

The brewery and gin distillery are a great, trendy new addition to 031. Trendy, comfortable decor and attentive staff. We heard they were famous for their burgers so ordered the Prego which was good albeit slightly overpriced and the Crunch which was a bit dry; the bun wasn't buttered or toasted and there was too little coleslaw. Hand cut, chunky chips were oily. A large selection of beers is available, as expected. Not a bad meal, but the ambiance and vibe of S43 are better than the food. Might go back for the gin tasting

Awesome ambiance. Nachos were great. Enjoyed the guacamole as it was fresh. Enjoyed the 031 durban dry gin. Great view of the passing trains also. All in all will be back.

They are NOT stingy with the alcohol AND it was happy hour 😊🔥.<br/><br/>Overall, I would have given S43 a solid 5, however the cucumber sticks were easily the worst thing I've ever tasted. They were just TOO fatty.☹ The taste didn't make sense. As a result, I was actually to scared to have a meal here and stuck to just eating fries.<br/><br/>I hope the food improves but the alcohol is unmatched!!💯

I found S43 December 2017, and visited numerous times during my holiday, including celebrating my birthday. Currently My favorite place in Durban for more than one reason:<br/><br/>1.Different Vibe Every Time:<br/>Call before the time to hear if there are any events planned. From live music to salsa dancing, but always buzzing (love the communal table, if you are social like me)<br/><br/>2.Freshly Brewed Craft Beer:<br/>As far as I know, the beer that's brewed a couple of meters from where you are having your meal, is only available at like 2 or 3 places, so really bring meaning to the word 'CRAFT' beer. (Order the testing plate)<br/><br/>3.Food Is Amazing:  <br/>Order anything, you will not be disappointed! Deep Fried Chicken Waffle is a showstopper.<br/><br/>4.Service<br/>Everybody went out of their way, every time to make our visit special, including the owner.<br/><br/>5.Best of JHB in Durbs<br/>If you are feeling homesick, and need your Braam fix, here's your spot. What an amazing vibe! We attended a salsa evening which we thoroughly enjoyed because of the live music and the group dancing.. The area was so well lit, lots of security, the entire building and the place next door was buzzing, It didn't even feel like we weren't even in Durban, it felt like we were overseas. <br/><br/>The food we ordered was good but I felt like perhaps there should be some simple, go-to items..<br/><br/>Those that were drinking also really enjoyed the craft beer..<br/><br/>Overall, good experience and will definitely be back.

Fantastic food, great service and delicious beers. <br/>Had the Durban burger and the Stout. Both near perfect. Burger patty was a little dry for me, but perfect flavour. Will definitely come back and highly recommend.

My boyfriend and I decided to come here for dinner while in Durban. The look and feel is really modern and industrial and the restaurant is an extension of the brewery which give a cool authentic feel. The food was so so good. We had things from the small plates section like chicken livers, calamari and the chicken wings. Everything was delicious and we had an amazing time. Our waiter was really friendly and attentive. We'll definitely be back when we're in town again.

First time I came here was by mistake actually heading to buy clothes at Tempracha Apparel saw that there was some weird ass tanks in there and a bar decided to walk in and my life changed Wow! 🔥🔥🔥 <br/><br/>Amazingly brewed craft beer and the service is friendly and efficient, eclectic vibe. <br/><br/>I came back here to take out my baby brother and sister and the food was spot on everything tasted amazing and the waitress was well educated about the menu.<br/><br/>All around amazing service, food and most importantly the Beer 🍻

Decided to try this spot out for lunch with friends. While the area is still a little dodge looking from the outside it does remind me a bit of Joburg's Braamfontein vibe.<br/><br/>The brewery is on site and is basically an extension of the restaurant which is rather cool. So decor is industrial with a few eclectic touches here and there. The bar is nicely done.<br/><br/>While it was kind of busy for lunch I do think it's perhaps more of an evening spot. <br/><br/>Service was friendly and efficient. Food was better than expected, finally got to try chicken and waffles which was a winner.<br/><br/>Overall a nice chilled spot for drinks and a laid back meal.

I was waiting for the day this would happen, after traveling all over SA to find the best of the best who knew the winner was just a stone throw away: Jaxx in port shepstone step aside! The BEST poppers of all time goes to S43🏆 this is kind of a big deal (insert Ron Burgundy meme here). This awesome spot takes the throne, what a vibe, our waiter Dylan was a charm, and the burgers are way on point. And to place the cherry on top they serve gin with cucumber 😭 I want to move in there. Marry me. This place is a keeper.

Very fun ambiance with great beer on tap and delicious burgers. It can get a bit loud but it's a fun place for a Saturday night with friends.

Has to be one of the best spots in Durban. Came through on a friday afternoon for lunch and got the mushroom sauce burger and the southern fried chicken waffle, i have been waiting to order the waffle again, i was in awe - please try this. The vibe, atmosphere, people and service was awesome. I will be coming back here pretty often.

Popped in at 9am for some sweet treats, not much variety with their desserts, we ordered a cheese cake, waffle, and ice cream. I love the set up and even if it's in a not so safe part of durban, the street is fully lit and security at the entrances. Would like to try the lunch menu, I hear the burgers are good.

We arrived on a busy Friday evening and I was transported to a restaurant that is definitely raising the bar with its beautiful decor. The drinks weren't exactly cheap but the variety made up for the price. Everyone had burgers and I was lucky enough to grab a bite of the beef burger- which melted in my mouth with delicious oily beefiness (I don't even care if that's a word or not, it was sensational). I had the chicken, Avo and bacon which was equally as amazing! Although I wasn't a fan of the overly large cut potatoes (not chips, potatoes), the boys scoffed them up. <br/><br/>Overall, a loud and vibey atmosphere with great food to boot!

Great atmosphere and the lighting though 😍😍😍 the veggie burger is one of the best I've tasted. Good selection of wine and other drinks including craft beers. The specials are quite interesting and come in man-sized portions. Definitely come here hungry👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

Truly a hidden gem. Really loved the urban look and vibe. One of the best places i have been to in Durban. Top notch service and some really great food.

S43 is a hidden gem in Morningside. It is an urban Chique Restuarant and bar which attracts young adults. Th waiters are accommodating and friendly and add to the overall experience.<br/>We started our night off with doing a beer tasting, then cocktails and ended our night with a bottle of wine. They also offered a lovely selection of food. I had ordered a lamb burger while my cousin and dad tried their chicken burgers. Everyone enjoyed how uniquely the burgers had been made with the extravagant toppings. I can't wait to visit S43 again!

Nice decor, good food and relatively good service. R35 a tot gin in a beer glass is seriously pushing it though. Good idea but not in Durban...

Good after work/ early evening spot... Decent selection of wines for those who enjoy the finer things in life, but limited craft beer options in comparison to other spots I usually frequent around Durban. The service is top notch; friendly waiters/waitresses make your visit more than pleasurable. The barman is also quite a friendly bloke as well as an experimentor to boot, with a new drink/shooter available almost weekly (most of these are however for those of you who can handle strong liquor well). This venue will most definitely be visited on a regular basis.

I love the hole in the wall feel, and contemporary vibe. Staff were very accommodating even though we did not make a booking and it was a friday night. Both the burger and pork tacos were enjoyable. After dinner we did drinks at the bar - service, food and drinks were good. Prices not bad at all!
