Review Julio's On The Bay - Durban

We were so pleasantly surprised! We almost had dinner at another restaurant, but I'm so happy we asked for a menu here. From the moment we walked in, we had the best service ever! The food was amazing and affordable, and the portions were above average. The staff even gave us scraps to feed to the fish in the harbour. We will definitely visit again and again when we are in the area. Thank you for a memorable dining experience!

Lastnight I decided to visit Julios on the bay to celebrate my mom's birthday.. I have to say that a staff named TK was absolutely outstanding. His friendly and professional manner of approach led me to think that he was the manager but he wasn't.. I think he should be because he really understands how to take care of guest needs.. he went out of his way to ensure my little girl got a milkshake that she requested which was out of stock.. he went to another outlet and got it for us which we absolutely appreciate.. 💯.. also gave her some toys to keep busy while we had our dinner.... now about the food.. OMG this is the definition of Value for money... absolutely delicious.. we all tried different dishes.. but my seafood platter for 1 was the 💣 Bomb.. welldone Julios.. also our waiter Asande was very efficient and helpful.. thanks guys we will be back and I'm bring all my friends too...

The best Chicken & Seafood meals we've ever had We've eaten at John dory's,ocean basket and so many other establishments But when we ordered here the service staff were so friendly ,they kept checking on us during our meals . The food was divine ,my chicken prego roll was dripping in this delicious sauce ,this is first time asked for hot and was given something hot & spicy with diced chillies in the sauce The family members loved their seafood platters ,the prawns were a huge hit . If an establishment like this had more branches it would amazingly well ,especially in chatsworth

Loved it! Food was delicious too. Only downside is the lack of liquor license so no alcohol or cocktails available. Some dishes not available such as spinach, while available on the menu. Also we couldn’t get dessert because it apparently went bad. But overall, great experience on the food we had and the sea view.

Full disclosure: I suspect I was visiting Julio's after they had a fire and had to relocate and downsize near their original site. That being said though: 1) The signage is near non-existent and the sole sign denoting the restaurant would only be visible to those already sitting at the restaurant already, or to passing ships....that is it. Barely anyone knew where it was also and from the parking lot it is actually impossible to see it from any angle. FYI: it is in a corner of the wharf past John Dorey's and past Spur. 2) The selection: While the menu was a fold out with several pages worth of items, drinks were not among them and they did not actually have everything on there in stock 3) Drinks: they only had a single beer on top and even getting the basics for the kids was proving challenging. 4) The location: while on the wharf and quite scenic, the seating was borderline claustrophobic. Very few seats available in their new location and not a single child seat for my nephew and niece. That being said though, the food was really quite good. Unfortunately the prawns looked a little anorexic, but were quite tasty. Service took a while, but given the size of our table (6 Adults, 2 kids) and how full the restaurant was it was understandable. But I would advise against arriving hungry as it does take a little while. On the whole, I think I might return again when they get back to their former venue size and staff compliment. The current place feels like a stop gap measure

Absolutely fantastic experience all round. The food was amazing, both flavorful and served hot and fresh. We had a male waiter who was incredible, friendly and very knowledgeable regarding the menu and specials. He definitely made our experience a pleasant one. This was the first time we went there and we will definitely be going back!

Fantastic evening. Bessy the waitress was really great! Food was phenomenal. The creamy sauce on the Trinchada was so tasty, the mussle pot was really great too. Main meals half chicken and prawn peri peri and Jalapeño Steak was delicious. Thank you for a wonderful birthday evening and fantastic service and beautiful food.

Loved the food here, particularly the whole fish special when it was available. And great attentive service The harbour is always a fascinating place, so its a pleasure to sit and eat and watch the world go by. Highly recommended!

We have never eaten here before but we were blown away by the absolutely delicious food. Had a few starters and my main meal was the calamari and prawn combo. Service by Mpho was top notch. Will definitely be going back

Absolutely delicious food on the bay. What a great experience. Reasonably priced, friendly staff. Good for groups and couples. Gets a bit busy but the service is still fast. Owners seem to be actively involved and checks up on tables. This is a top restaurant in Durban!

The flavor and atmosphere leaves you wanting more. The owner‘s robust personality makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. Definitely value for money. It’s worth a revisit for a top up of those Devine prawns.

Good food, great atmosphere and excellent service. Located at Wilson’s Wharf this establishment is one that has character. The food was good and service excellent. Try in out if you in the area.

Really great, Portuguese inspired food. The calamari was slightly overcooked but the chicken and fish were perfect. All the food, including the vegetables were perfectly spiced. Friendly wait staff. Dessert options are very limited. It's not the most comfortable place, due to the location, but the restaurant are accommodating and provide heaters etc

Favourite and recommended dishes is the chicken and the prawns. Perfectly cooked and flavorful every time. The chilli relish presented with the complimentary bread is beyond amazing - be prepared for a sting! Perfect setting for lunch on a warm summer's day.

Went to Julio's for dinner with Hubby. Hubby had snails in a sauce for starters and I had chilli fish cakes. The fish cakes were dry on the outside and Hubby couldn't stop raving about how good the snails were. Absolutely loved the prawn platter for two. Delicious! The service was the best our waiter Gerard was really attentive. I will be going back to Julio's very soon. Worth every second and cent spent there.

A return visit after 3 years, and it was my fault for not reading the menu properly before I ordered the Paella, which I remember very differently. The other dishes, a spicy seafood platter and espetada, made the trip there worthwhile. The paella was served in a cracked plate.

After the numerous reviews and hearing the ranting as well as raving from friends, I finally got to eat at Julio’s!
The meals were really yum. I ordered the peri chicken with prawns, both were divine and the well portioned.
Seafood done right and definitely a must try but before you do please make a reservation to avoid disappointment.

Julio’s seems to be a place frequented by those that “just know” rather than those who have actively gone out to look for cool places! And it really is a great place to go to.

The brand has a rather long history so this is known by many in Durban. They’ve been making Portuguese-Mozambican food since the early 90s. The prices (thankfully) also seem to be stuck in the 90s!

The seafood platter is just AMAZING! And it costs under R150! The fish is excellent. The calamari was delectable. And the peri peri has excellent flavor. It’s a good honest meal at a terrific price.

The ambience is of a local eatery. Not too fancy but really homely even though it’s situated on the bay nestled in between two chain stores.

If you want good seafood with an excellent view, make a booking (seriously, they get busy so you must book!) and try it out.

Will not be going back to this restaurant. Run down interior and outdoor seating, poor quality of food and drinks and untrained staff! I had the seafood rice dish (described to me as paella), I received a bowl of half cooked seafood and a side portion of rice - unappetising to say the least. The chicken and prawn dish was mediocre. The sangria was the worst I've ever had- poor bartender skills. Do not recommend you try this restaurant.

Popped into to Julios for a quick lunch and had Excellent service and lovely Portuguese flavour sauced chicken. Left with a smile. The view alone is worth the visit.

Best Seafood Platter I have had in years, everything was moist, tender and cooked to perfection. Quintin our waitron was friendly, informative and on the ball with our large tables needs.

If you're a seafood and/or chicken fan this is a must-try. I don't know what's in the sauce but it's delectable. Great service, good atmosphere and brilliant food.

The most delicious chicken ever!

Great vibe and atmosphere along with wonderful staff, efficient and very very quick service.

Our waiter - Quintin was the best waiter I have ever been served by - he was there exactly when we needed something and was never pushy or too much when we were having our meals. Kind, friendly and so helpful in choosing out our meals as it was out first time visit!

I will definitely be stopping by here every time I visit Durban!

Oh wow!!!
What a pleasant surprise...
Went here and my oh my, not only the waiter (Quintin) was on the ball, but kitchen followed all the way!
Ordered, and few minutes later I had one of the best meals ever!
I dislike when typical waiters come and bug you while you are swallowing your bite - but out waiter was simply amazing which makes my experience 6 out of 5 starts!!!
Food was extremely tasty, serving was great

Guys, DON'T MISS THIS GEM when you are at Wilson wharf, you will regret it!

So if you want a homely meal, come to Julio's. That is if you make eisbein at home... Perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Fatty (but no too fatty) crackling that just melts in your mouth. The service was excellent, very attentive. Such a lovely vibe too, home away from home you could say. Nice way to spend the evening! Will be coming back when in Durbs again.

This review is for the one in Umhalanga not this one as I could not find it on zamato . Food came rich in butter or should I say margerine. I asked for NO BUTTER but still it came drenched. Had to send it back ! was really tasty other than that but We all feel so sick...
Sad cause we really looked forward to it. On the up side our@ Service was excellent and our waiter was absolutely great.

Julios on the Bay.. Our second time here and again not dissapointed. Service was good, just a bit pushy on orders. One of my best seafood platters. Their Cataplana is an absolute must. And of course who can say no to Mozambican R&R's
