We had the tasting menu last night, overall excellent and I would say rightly priced too. The menu is 5 dishes with two of them being set and the other three to be chosen from a delightful variety of options. The only thing to fault was that after I had requested my main of beef I was informed that they didn't have it... but otherwise everything else was perfection. Executed to great detail, all the dishes that we tried were pretty amazing. I tried the braised duck for starters which left quite an impression; my friends were equally satisfied with the Pho. As for mains, pork belly was greatly balanced with elements with some acidity like apples, fennel; the rest of the table tried different dishes like the sole, the lamb and the duck and everything seemed really good. The desserts were again impressive, great presentation for the South African cheese, and my 'honey' inspired dish making again quite a strong impression: an incredibly light sponge accompanied by the honey inspired ice-cream, cream, jelly and honeycomb. I am not usually one to favour extremely sweet desserts and tend to like more fruit based desserts or that at least provide some contrast to sweet; this had the potential to be an almost bland and all sugary sweet dish but instead each one of the elements had its own life and taste and all together they really worked well. One of the beat starters and desserts that I have had in a long time! The chef came to greet us at the end of the meal and he asked for feedback, which also doesn't happen very often elsewhere. The wine menu was extensive and varied if slightly SA biased, but after all we are in the land of great wine. We loved the atmosphere, a great place to meet others and have a quality conversation as we did. All in all a great evening and a great location. Totally recommended.
I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a Cuppa for Cansa fundraiser which was hosted at and by Ten Bompas Hotel. I had not been there in years and was hoping that the experience would be as wonderful as I remembered it. My expectations were surpassed. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by the friendly car guard and welcomed by at the entrance. Our waiter was simply superb. Not only does Abby have a great sense of humour but his intelligent wittiness was such a breath of fresh air. The food was absolutely delicious and they could not do enough for us. Well done to the management for keeping your staff happy and motivated and for once again providing a memorable lunch.
I decided to try out this fine dining experience with dine4six and I was impressed with the experience. Abby was a great host and MC for the night. He provided great entertainment for the evening. The chefs were also present to explain the dishes which meant that the food that I tasted was not a surprise. All of the dishes were quite good but the standout dishes had to be the mushroom dumpling and the chocolate dessert. The most mind blowing experience for me was the melt in your mouth olive.
Amazing, different and fun experience. Enjoyed all 4 courses and the Chef coming to explain each dish and ingredients made it even more special! our waiter Fortune was such a delight and very attentive. Cosy and intimate ambience.
French cuisine experience, 4 course menu with wine pairing was a good experience. Waiters very kind and funny between the chef visits to the table to walk us through each of the four courses!
What an incredible dinner. Tebogo the chef came and mouthwateringly described each dish in decadent detail. Every single one a complete winner. Mo also came and told us about her delicious desserts that ‘pop’ with flavour! Vincent’s service was impeccable. With a paired wine selection that absolutely rounded this best meal I have had in my life off perfectly. Well done! My number one restaurant.
Thank you all for a most memorable evening!
Decided to try out The Winehouse for our 1st wedding anniversary and had the 5 course dinner with wine pairing. Overall we enjoyed all of the courses, especially the beef fillet main which was the stand out when paired with a very good Syrah.
There were a few hits an misses with the other wine pairings but overall the food on its own was still great. The desserts were perhaps the least impressive in my opinion though my wife really enjoyed them as she is more of a fruit dessert person.
Really enjoyed the evening, I think it offered good value compared to other fine dining experiences in Joburg.
Great night out at a lovely venue. The staff were very attentive and knowledgeable, the food was terrific and the wine paring on the tasting menu perfectly matched the food. Highly recommended
Very quaint and unassuming upon arrival. Lovely friendly staff who cater to your every whim. Tantalizingly delicious meals - absolute perfection on a plate that leaves your tastebuds doing the happy dance with every bite.
A must !!!! You don’t need a special occasion to indulge this gem of an establishment.
I hosted my 50th birthday lunch and all of my guests were blown away by the food. It was definitely one of the best meals I have eaten in Johannesburg. We had 30 people and the room was the perfect size. The booking process was very easy and hassle free (particularly compared to some other vendors I got quotes from). I was very happy with everything and the waiting staff was very friendly and attentive. The best roast potatoes ever!!
If you are in the mood for fine dining in a romantic setting, then look no further than the Winehouse at Ten Bompas.
I took my wife there for her birthday based on the positive reviews I had seen. The restaurant itself is very small and cozy, and we were fortunate enough to get there early enough to be seated at one of the corner couches. Our lovely hostess Charli was amazing and very friendly. The spring tasting menu had just been launched but we opted for the a la carte menu.
For starters we chose to have the parsnip soup with a creme fraiche panna cotta and some crunchy bits (which I assumed where crispy onions). For mains my wife had duck breast with salted beets, berry compote and duck spring roll. I chose the beef fillet with oxtail foam which were both delicious.
The evening was capped off by a lovely surprise of a tray of petit fours from the chef - and a happy birthday message for my wife spelled out in the tray with icing sugar.
All in all, a great experience and a lovely way to celebrate a special occasion.
Had a fantastic dinner at Ten Bompas. Staff were welcoming and helpful. I had the lamb. Presentation was superb and the flavours were fantastic. The potatoes which we ordered as an additional side were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Complimentary mini desserts from the Chef were the perfect finish to a great evening.
