On its way to fine dining. The way the food is presented is fantastic and the waiters were very attentive (but not hovering) and we really enjoyed how they explained the dishes. We had the 3 course taster menu and the chocolate tart. We would really recommend the tuna and the hake main. Some of the flavour combinations didn't quite work in my opinion. We thought the canapes were too salty and the confit chicken, although delicious, did not go with the kingklip or cauliflower. The atmosphere was brilliant.
Really wish I got more photos of the food but it was great, everything was beautifully plated and I enjoyed all the courses. The risotto was delicious too and the meat in the beef wellington was perfect. (You need to add extra to order certain menu items though) The base of the lemon tart was a bit firm but besides that it was amazing. Great service and lovely low lit restaurant.
Very cool restaurant with a tasting and a regular menu. Prices are correct (450R for 2 courses and 650 for 3) and they’ve got a good selection of wines which are just a little bit overpriced. The staff is very nice so overall it’s a nice restaurant !
I’ll go back for the tasting menu
Edit 02/12/2023:
Went back for the tasting menu. Food was great, nothing to say here. The service however… they forgot one meal out of the menu, which I had to tell them. Then they also didn’t give the right meat meal to one of the person. No gesture at the end…disappointing. Wine prices are really expensive as well
Searching for a nice place for a food 'n wine pairing dinner, we stubbled upon Grub & Vine where they were doing a 'Meet the Maker' event. Long story short, a local wine maker's wine is paired with dishes make specially by Grub & Vine for this evening. Instead of just have good food and wine, they provided information on the wines, the food etc. Not all combinations where the best matches, but the idea is nice and we have had an entertaining evening. Interior is btw worth going in for, oja, and a lot of South African wine, so not a lot that can go wrong :D. Reservation for this dinner was per their site.
The food was amazing! Although, not sure why you're paying such big supplements on the duck breast and for 2 scallops... Service lacked finesse and attention. We went for our anniversary and complimented the manager on the cuisine. The manager asked if we received our 'anniversary plate' - which we hadn't... If our table had been attended to better then guests wouldn't be leaving without what had been prepared for them. Also, wine per glass were very small portions.
The Grub and vine is an excellent, central spot for a fine dining experience. The food is wonderful and seasonal with an exquisite variety of flavours.
The decor is modern with a wonderful view of the bustling street below. The service is top notch with wonderful food presentation and knowledge of the menu.
The only remark is that I do not know if the restaurant is wheelchair accessible.
Wonderful and ambitious food with a good selection of wines and a look to the working kitchen. After canapés with a glass of Cap Classique, we had three seafood courses with seared tuna, kingklip and hake and all were delicious. With that a bottle of Elgin chardonnay from La Brune vineyard.
Excellent food, good service, and a calm ambience in the green room.
We went with the summer tasting menu for the entire table (everyone needs to get the same tasting menu as a rule)
Wines and Cocktails were great, highly recommend ordering your fav ones, they whip it up good. All in all, great food. Need to come back to try more (see pictures for menu and food)
What a gem!!! Reservations are highly recommended as this is a small, intimate restaurant...you enter through the open kitchen and are welcomed by the manager... They also have the best wines and you can choose a menu that allows you to pair each course with a wine. We opted for the one canape and 2 courses and then ordered the desserts separately! The meals are exquisite...just perfect...it was such a delight dining here....go for this memorable experience!!!
Enjoyable experience. Best bite was the rarebit. Local wine pairings were a little off, frequently in conflict with the flavors of the food. Kitchen used a little too much raw acidity in pickles to really be an optimal wine degustation. Would definitely return but maybe choose the smaller menu. Restaurant manger was excellent.
