Alphabet Soup

Hands down the best coffee shop in Obs. It has the ability to centre the chaos in city living filtering it into fantastic coffee, even better simple breakfasts and a incredibly laid back atmosphere. Weekly events and plenty of illustrations makes this a regular visit.

Yet another cool coffee hangout in the gentrified student haven that is Observatory. The records on the wall together with the good music render it the perfect place for UCT hipsters. I was a little disappointed with the menu which is rather limited. However, what they do serve is unusually flavored and creatively presented. The breakfast that is served throughout the day is another plus... I would recommend adding something a lot more arty to the decor/vibe so as to complement the unusual name that suggests something a more studio-like like.

A great and quiet place to get some work done or to read. However, I find menu doesn't offer much options for food. I did choose a Spanish omelette and that was actually delicious!

Tucked just under the bridge next to Observatory library....its easy to miss. A small menu geared towards breakfast and light lunches. Good value for money! Relaxed atmosphere with a feeling of space. As name suggests expect to spot art from locals on the walls (all for sale). Excellent coffee!
