Great lively venue with varying entertainment depending on the day of the week. Expect an upmarket venue with good service, well rounded and the management is fantastic resolved an issue with theft outside promptly with the help of the security staff.
Sound inside is excellent, many areas to dance as well as stand and catch up with friends, dedicated smoking area inside and outside.
The only drawback is the crime right outside the venue, unfortunately something that occurs everywhere in cape Town with petty theft.
If you are visiting cape Town, this place should definitely be on the itinerary.

Wonderful place to cool down when the city is sweltering from the heat. Try the excellent Beer on Tap Standard Laager if you are not sure what to get. Really good beer! A 330 ML beer on tap goes for about R35.00 which is standard for the city. They have some really good pizza specials also. Lots of ambience in terms of decor. In all a fantastic experience. BTW - they are in the old building of the YMCA 😄

What a great all night venue, only place (In CPT) where you will hear soft/hard rock plus some old school tunes.
Drinks are well priced for local beers and wine(comparable) one of the few places that sell espalon tequila- If you haven't tried it yet... get in there...
As well as, if local LIVE music is your thing, great, they have it every Friday night x2 bands the doors open 20:00 (check website for updated times)
AND lastly - If you're in to karaoke they have Rock Karaoke Wed nights. . .

R.I.P. Aces 'n Spades. Corona :-( One more of my favorite Cape Town venues closed down - very very sad ! We had so many brilliant nights there with great bands and people. The whole style was awesome. Hope so much that one day it will be open again !

My word. What a great place to go out on the weekend. First of all the sound is really really good inside. I caught the end of a band's performance on Friday and it was so clear. Maybe the band was just really good.. not sure. Anyway, it's very vibey inside and the bar staff are quick and on the ball. The outside smoking area reminded me of Silver Rosa and then someone pointed out that the same guy owns it. I love how they promote local singers and bands and I will definitely go here more to support them. Great place, good security and the vibe is awesome. Highly recommended.

Really good vibe... Music selection could use some tweaking but overall, it's worth popping into for a drink or two. Drinks are pretty good.

Very loud and very "alive" bar/club. I've been twice for birthdays and there was always a fight! I imagine the alcohol and the hormones work the nerves of the guys on a hunt for girls. That's basically the reason to go there. Cool decor and nice lighting.

Great little bar in the heart of the city. Supposed to have a rock theme, although the music played there varies from cheesy-pop to soft rock... The bar tenders keep the image up with their look. The prices of drinks are a bit on the steep side, and with the latest news of the behaviour of their bouncers... I'm not so sure anymore! Sexual harassment is not ROCK! And if it is a ROCK image you are going for, then make sure that your music reflects it... #justsaying

It was my first time at this venue last night. Really good set up, décor on point, music was in tune and the vibe was good. Service at the bar was not really the best in my opinion but that can be improved. I'll definitely come back again 🙂

grab a beer and dance the weekend out. Aces & Spades is one of those viby crazy places in CBD, come early or you will be in a queue before they 'let you in'. Cool young men, always trying to dance with you, LOL. Never had to buy my own drink here.

My favourite aspect of Aces 'n Spades was the decor, but the music and the vibe isn't really my scene (I'm more of a Sgt Pepper girl!). The bartenders were really quick and friendly, and I'd go back if I was just keen for some chilled drinks :)

It has a vibe. It has a crowd that is too cool for school.<br/>but waiting at the bar when the places is packed is a pain in the arse.<br/>Drinks take too long to come, the sizes are tiny (large beers are anything but, but the prices are insane)<br/><br/>Good fun for the karaoke. it has a rather upmarket clientele (Die Antwoord were in there one of the nights I was there) and for a crowd of folks so posh and trendy, I couldn't believe that one of them stole my fancy adidas jacket that was literally on my lap.<br/><br/>I'll go for the karaoke. But I wouldn't sing about the prices.
