Atlantic Express is the perfect place for a Breakfast Lunch in Sea Point, the restaurant is inside an old train so it feels like you onboard a vintage luxury train.
The service is excellent and food is awesome. I’ve tried the Breakfast with Steak and most recently I tried the Chicken Burger, the burger was quite tasty and filling.
We tried the pancakes for dessert and I chose the Banana Pancake with Ice Cream.
I haven't been here in ages hence the 3.5/5 because it used to my dad and I favourite restaurant! Being an attorney who works across the road this is an easy spot for us to meet and have a quick bite such as a sandwhich... always had a pleasant train ride to nowhere in the blue train restaurant :)

After an early morning climb up Lions Head we decided to treat ourselves to a well deserved breakfast. After much deliberation during the hike, it was agreed that we would fill up at the Atlantic Express in Sea Point.
You eat inside an old train, this can be quite exciting for kids and adults who have the privilege of avoiding the services of Prasa on their daily commutes. For my uncle I it was a bit of a reminder of what awaited us the next day - full platforms and delays. In terms of the service Capetonians expect from trains, the bar is set very low, in fact the bar actually rests on floor. MetroPlus please.
The setting inside is quite intimate but not in a romantic way, in a 'the people in the booth opposite you are forced to look directly at you' kinda way. There was a lady with a squint opposite us that made my uncle so uncomfortable that we had to switch tables. She tried her best but could not remove her gaze from him completely.
The food was flavourful I will give them that, I had the steak sandwich. For a restaurant with the word "express" in the title the sandwiches and other orders were delayed by 10-15 minutes. The sandwich itself had slices of steak (as opposed to being shredded) and cut up into triangles. The chips reminded me of Oscar Pistorius as they were a bit shorter in length than usual chips, like they were missing a fibula. The coffee was okay and my cousins cheeseburger had a very small slice of cheese on it.
All that being said the food did have a nice flavour to it, which is not a common trend nowadays. Its also a bit fun to sit down and eat good food inside a train when one is so used to just standing inside a delayed, (sometimes) moving train like a box of straws during the week.
Would definitely recommend to give it try, you can decide to buy a one way or a return ticket... Its up to you!
My husband absolutely loved it 👍🏻 so did i , the pasta was very good 👌🏻 great burgers , the space is small so not for people who are uncomfortable in small spaces otherwise a very different experience 👍🏻

Take a trip down memory lane at The Atlantic Express restaurant. It's a restored railway carriage and once you stepped inside the carriage, you are transported into a dining carriage with plush blue velvet seats and individual booths, not to forget the wood window frames and brass finishes.
We decided to stop by for dessert as this is one of Cape Town's landmark and a stationary carriage in the middle of one of the busiest suburbs.
A huge portion of The Atlantic Express Pancake was brought to the table. It was filled with ice cream and topped with cream and drizzled with chocolate sauce and sprinkled with flaked almonds - decadent! The baked cheesecake was pretty standard but still creamy with a smooth texture. My favourite by far has to be the Avo shake...yes avocaco! So unique and different, but so, so delicious!
As this place gets a bit busy the narrow passageway and small carriage can feel slightly claustophobic at times, but this charming little restaurant lets you imagine you are enjoying a train trip somewhere in the world.
We had a Wikideals voucher for a mixed grilled Platter that we use for a nice Sunday dinner. When using the voucher, you need to book ahead which we did. Upon arriving, the place wasn't that busy. We got our seats and ordered our drinks, which came about five minutes later. And our food came fifteen minutes after that - which we were quite chuffed about. The Platter was juicy and flavourful; we tried both the BBQ and masala flavours. Next came the pancakes which were included with the voucher. This was yummy as well. All in all, a pleasant experience 🙂
This place is cape Town's real hidden gem. i cannot tell you how many times I had wanted to come here but just could not find it! After a couple of trips, I genuinely thought this place did exist, but had closed down- anyway... I decided to use google street view this time as to not miss it!

Its a humble restaurant in a train-like set up set up amongst these huge buildings around it. It feels different inside, like you're stepping into a different world. The manager and waiters are very friendly and the service is really good too. I ordered a chicken sosatie with a salad and this was absolute deliciousness.
now that I know where to find this train restaurant, I will def be returning.
For a novel idea we decided to stop here for dessert inside a train carriage. Like a train, the tables are cramped and can barely fit 4 people. What's even interesting is on the bill they state they charge a service charge on tables of 6 and more. I'm surprised how they can accomplish that vast feat.

We had a loaded crepe which was a decent portion size, smattered with ice cream and chocolate sauce. The cheesecake was pretty stock standard. The most unusual item was the avocado milkshake. It's was creamy but I'm not a avo fan at the best of times.
Service is friendly and portion sizes are on the larger size.
Worth going for the novelty.
Had lunch here and was very surprised and impressed with the food and also the service. Generally the space is very small and tight due it being a train but the train setting is what makes this place unique. The waitress and owner were very friendly and helpful. We got a taster sample as well. I had the platter for 1 and it was a very generous portion (couldn't finish it) but was fresh and perfectly done. Hubby had the crayfish curry and loved it. The banana milkshake was also delicious! Really would recommend this place for a lovely filling meal anytime of the day.
Atlantic Express is a restaurant in Sea Point in an actual train, so needless to say space is limited and it can often get quite cramped However, because this restaurant is fully halaal, we often visit for a meal. The service is a bit slow but portion sizes are decent and the meals are tasty. The last time I went there, I had the seafood platter for one - R199 - (with garlic sauce) and it was delicious. It was also my birthday so the manager gave me a pancake on the house which was quite special. I've never had a bad experience here so I'll continue to go and would recommend this place to anyone who won't mind a bit of a wait.
