We had such an excellent time at the restaurant last night! It had such an unpretentious atmosphere due to its staff who are so inviting and just down to earth, right down to the owner. We had seats by the sushi bar which was the best choice as the sushi chef Michael was so engaging and such great fun lol Everything just made the food an experience in and of itself, especially watching the prep of the viper roll we ordered. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

The restaurant itself is beautiful and the food and service are incredible. They’re usually quiet around lunchtime during the week so it’s an ideal spot to enjoy a lunch special and a bottle of Japanese beer, sake or coffee. They have free wifi and nice window seats looking onto Shortmarket Street, making it a great place to work.

Before I proceed, THEY HAVE A 20% OFF ALL SUSHI THIS BLACK FRIDAY 24.11.23. This is not a sponsored post. :) This restaurant deserves so much more foot traffic. It looks like an authentic Japanese restaurant to start with and many might have the idea that they are exhorbitantly priced. On the contrary, the quality of the food be it taste or presentation, supersedes the prices. The service is attentive and the we sat by the window watching the world goes by with the equally fairly priced wines. After 2 starters of Agadeshi tofu (I loved it so much everything was slurped up.) Hubby had tamago sushi. Mains were more sushi which are 10% off, part of their regular promos. I had a grilled Saba mackerel. We finished off with the black sesame ice cream, cappuccino and Japanese whisky. We rolled out of the restaurant and fell into a blissful food coma thereafter.

The food was delicious, the wine list was good (has variety) and the service was very attentive. The restaurant is quite dark in the evening and we would have liked to see what we were eating. The restaurant needs some upkeep as it seems a little run down in places.

Best Japanese restaurant in Cape Town. Flavourful food. With enough variety for those with adventurous palates. The Robata (BBQ) was robust in flavor: Beef tongue was delicious, soft and chewy; The crunchy chicken skin would pair beautifully with a beer to cut through the richness (next time!), while the salmon tongue was a wonderful fishy punch. (Sake pairing would work - definitely next time! ) The beef ramen is hands down best in Cape town. Yes, better than: Ramenhead, Downtown Ramen and Three monkeys. A beautiful supper with great food and excellent service.

A little hidden gem I'd say in Cape Town, when it comes to truly authentic Japanese cuisine. The food was outstanding and the quality of the sushi is amazing. Definitely recommend!

Very happy to find this gem! Ordered a bento box - the sushi was fresh and pricing was very reasonable. Service was also very attentive. Will be back! (Don't be fooled by the size of the serving, my husband was full from the seemingly small portion.) We had 2 cocktails, a bottle of wine and 2 x bento boxes.

Such a great value authentic Japanese experience for Cape Town Have to say though we came in on a weekday evening at 8pm and after 9pm definitely did feel a little rushed to close up, we had double checked Google beforehand to make sure this was not the case, would have loved to eat dessert! Other than that , the best understated Japanese gem for CT. Loads of new options sprouting up at double the cost but the value and authenticity here are unmatched 100%

Great restaurant, food is amazing and the wait staff are super friendly and attentive. I think one point that needs to be addressed is the decor, they need to clean the window sills and wash the walls a bit. I love the place but it needs a good cleaning before I feel super comfy eating raw fish in there again.

A wonderful spot for an intimate date night, or a group night out for dinner. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Lovely and kind service.
