I am not a fan of Melissa’s food. It’s over priced, under seasoned and portions are tiny (unless you’re dishing from the lunchtime harvest table).
But their cakes are beyond amazing! And their coffee is superb. So every once in a while I make Melissa’s my Sunday afternoon tea stop.
Their carrot cake is gorgeous! Laden with nuts, topped with cream cheese icing and is just pure decadence! Yum!
(This scoring is not for their food, but their cakes)
I pop in here sometimes because I live close by! The smoothies are delicious and my favorite cake has to be the black red velvet one! Their teas and coffees are good! I haven't had any of the buffet, as I feel it is quite over priced! The service is really slow, I never know if I should ask for the bill or pay at the till, or if I order at the counter or through a waitress! There produce on sale always looks amazing, but also really pricey!
I always enjoy the food (especially the breakfast) at Melissa's. The chicken pie is very good. And I love that you can order Melissa's from OrderIn. Perfect for a lazy weekend morning when you are craving a delicious breakfast in the comfort of your own home. Scrambled eggs and bacon on a croissant is my favourite!
Super yummy Mediterranean style food, with a proper view of the mountain. Very quaint. Not fastest service, but overall a good shop. The cheesecake is amazing!!

Perfect little spot for a lazy weekend breakfast or after work coffee. This clean and chic food shop has the loveliest Nutella hot chocolate. Their range of delicious cakes are quite extensive and they cater for the gluten intolerant too! The meals are a bit on the pricey side, but delicious nonetheless. Try their smoked salmon and poached egg on ciabatta - heaven!
This store has a cosy factor that i just love! It is quite snug with not loads of tables so in winter it makes it is warm and inviting. It also is open early on a Sunday, which few restaurants are in Cape Town.
I have only ever been here for breakfast, and the selection is great! It's a bit pricey, but the quality is worth it. I opted for a plain omelette, and you get a generous helping of toast with it. The buffet of muesli, yoghurt, fruit, granola chunks and birchers is looks very appealing. They also have oats back on their menu, although I'm not sure if it's just for winter.
The only thing is although the service is friendly, it can be quite slow and we struggled to get our waitress's attention more than once.
Good little spot, probably my favourite store of the franchise.
Nestled between a mountain and the sea, Melissa's Kloof Street seems to be a great find. Great new atmosphere and better service. Will come back again.

One of the better store locations in Cape Town. Their coffee & red cappuccinos are always a good idea- as are their cakes and sweet treats if that's your thang (they have delicious gluten free options, too, for all my fellow glutards out there).
If you're a chocolate person, their hot choc is an absolute must. The only issue with Melissa's is that their service is a bit slow, so as long as you have some time, you're good to go! You will also probably end up leaving with a nifty little something from their store- I always do. Jenny Sarah Coulson
Popped in for cake and coffee. Love that they're open on a Saturday afternoon. Was greeted at the cake table by friendly waiter. Service was great, granted they weren't very busy. Praline cheesecake highly recommended! Will go back anytime.
Melissa's food is excellent, always fresh, always made using good ingredients generously. They have a breakfast buffet, a small daytime menu, a selection of cakes and tarts, and a weigh your plate lunch buffet. For breakfast, I love their granola and yoghurt. For lunch, I love anything on their buffet, but specially when they do a curry or stew. For my sweet tooth, I love their polka dot cake and their florentines. Also a great spot to stop for a gift for a hostess, or for goodies to take your own dinner party up a notch. My only truck with Melissa's is that they have become very very expensive. Shockingly so. I sometimes think they have rung my bill up incorrectly, but when I question it, find out that the bill is indeed correct... Not a nice feeling.
When we arrived there, their waiter said their menu is not updated, so we couldn't get certain items ( vegan items). Portion size is great & quite filling. Food was tasty but the eggplant Parmigiano was very oily as seen on photo. My favorite part about this restaurant is beautiful view of table mountain and delicious cappuccino.
Please update your menu and provide more veg options.
Wonderful location on the trendy Kloof Street... Food always fresh and amazing.. Service was a bit shakey on this visit (peak breakfast time).. But otherwise it's always knowledgeable and speedy.. 🍒
Just had time for a bunless vegan burger. Very tasty. Friendly service. Sat on outside deck. One of the best views of Table Mountain in Cape Town.
They were actually closed already but offered to help us with some cake and coffee which turned out to be very delicious.
Great little space. Sadly the manger don't always know what's going on and the owner is not really ever involved. The food is great quality for price and portions tend to be good. Sometimes there are no staff to be found. The view is amazing! The vegan breakfast is the best in cape town. Good spot to work with good coffee.
Great morning experience here - good food and lovely staff. Many happy returns from me
Hi there,
I would like to give Bernard and his lovely team a huge thumbs up for sorting out the music. It was sorted out the next day after I left the review. The atmosphere is great and the place is buzzing.
Thank you!
Hi there
Could management please look into the music selection in the mornings or in general. There are so many great coffee shop selections available that is suited for a shop like this.
The Melissa selection was perfectly suited for a coffee shop and fit in with the overall feel of the shop. (something they got right)
At the moment it sounds like I am in a sleazy club in the Med and I am not the only regular who is complaining about this. It has been raised but nothing has changed.
Come on guys it is not hard to sort this out. Thanks
Love Melissa's. Staff are friendly and it's a great place to go have a coffee with friends. Or a nutella hot chocolate. And great cakes and biscuits to go along with your morning or afternoon tea. They also have great brunch selection and do scrambled eggs surprisingly well. Definitely worth the visit.
Love them for their quality ingredients, can tell there is time and effort put into prepping those dishes. Service can be better, often no manager in sight and the staff don't cope too well but the food and drinks are fantastic
Entertainer led us to this lovely streetside cafe. The breakfast was delicious. We shared two dishes-the salmon Benedict with perfectly poached eggs and thick salmon on Bavarian brown toast with a delicious hollandaise sauce. The second dish was homemade fruit salad with Greek yogurt, honey and delicious crunchy, nutty granola. The freshly squeezed juice was lovely. It was an intimate setting with quality food and good service. They handled loadshedding so well!
