Review Pirates Steakhouse - Cape Town Central

I've been coming to cape town ever since I was a kid. One of my most fond memories coming to Cape Town were eating ribs in pirates. In the many times I've visited Cape Town since I have always visited pirates at least once and had the 700 gram ribs. Every time I go I fear that it will not be as good as I remember it and yet every time I'm amazed by the best ribs I've ever had. A huge bonus are the low very reasonable prices which I believe are under priced for what you get. It might not be the fanciest place and not in the best part of town but if you truly want to have the best ribs that you will ever have I recommend you visit pirates.

Great experience, just confusing where too enter as there's a bar enterance as well. The live entertainment was entertain on Monday evenings. They also have a massive menue, definitely recommend the steaks, were cooked too perfection!!! Kids menu was also big!

This is an irregular haunt of mine as I only go there when I'm in the area. Pirates Steakhouse first caught my attention because of the Art Deco building it is in. Art Deco architecture is my passion. My visit on Tuesday was pleasant. Good service, good food, and a quiet atmosphere, not too hectic.

Always an absolute pleasure dining at Pirate's Steakhouse! Great food, great service and great music.

What an incredible first experience for me. Have heard so much about The Pirates ☠ Restaurant and was not disappointed or let down in any way. Nest burgers in town. The chicken from the chicken salad was flame grilled with a delicious basting sauce. The manager was friendly, waitress was very helpful, food was quick, vegetables was fresh and the priced well. Will definitely be coming back again. I have found my new favorite restaurant. Since Friday nights also offer live music shows. Keep up the great service and don't change a thing!

The staff are amazing 👏🏾! I've only been there twice but I had a great experience on each occasion. The food is really good and the portions are great. The bartenders are awesome, too.

My friends and I are over the age of 40 and we love going to Pirates to dance the night away, especially from midnight onwards. A lovely atmosphere... a mix of ages, thankfully, and diversities and a pretty cool crowd. We also love that it's in the burbs so we don't have to spend too much money on an Uber. We hear that the food is great too😁

This is just one of those feel good places I used to go to when I was younger and still enjoy it. My recent visit was as I expected, great food and company, also the waitress was super helpful and the manager, was so accomodating, she did everything In her control to make us feel at home.

The food is so worth every last penny. Never disappointed on food quality and portion size. Great place to eat,having a drink. Service staff like waiters are always supportive. It's the door bouncers that actually made me stop going. They have a very negative approach to patrons. I understand the need for security but it should still be done in a welcoming way that's warm and inviting. It just comes across as if you are entering as a criminal versus a patron. Further more the food makes up for that.

Great to be back at Pirates! The Burgers are the BEST!! Quantity and quality will not fail you. Great Prices, fantastic service and the atmosphere is just what you need. Personal spaces and intimate, yet family feel. My first choice over many restaurants.

Had great service but we went to see the place and ended up ordering. Nice atmosphere especially at suppertime, as they have live entertainment. I have been there previously.

I think it says a lot about a place when the staff is wonderful even when your order is inexpensive. They were friendly and efficient, and they made my order look beautiful. I will definitely be back with a bigger appetite!

This place makes some of the best steaks I’ve had. Their prices range from R140-R220 for around 200-450grams. Their service is friendly and professional. We also had live music on a Friday evening which made our night even more enjoyable. However, I do think it is a bit too loud, maybe we could have asked to be seated a bit further away. It does take a bit of shouting to chat to someone next to you. Steaks, burgers and ribs are all awesome !

I think this is but one of the few places where you everyone in your family can enjoy themselves..great food and live band and much more.come have a look won't be disappointed.

A spot with a lot to offer. Went in expecting a dive bar situation, only to be pleasantly surprised with the offerings there. A nautical themed bar area, a restaurant tucked away, a dance floor with a dj sourcing the music and a slots section. Went there for drinks, ended up on the dancefloor, next I will have to check out their steaks.

Good atmosphere and feels cozy. Weird harmless furniture always good to have a chat with and some talent always around. Just check who the berk is first.

The ribs were so soft and fell right off the bone. Drinks were affordable and so refreshing. Will definitely go back again.

Pirates never disappoints! Everytime I go, my steak is perfect medium rare the way I like it. I usually order their Aunty Millies Fillet which is to die for. So happy to have a great steak house close to home! Lovely atmosphere suitable for families

Good location, although, only street side parking available nearby. Staff is great, friendly and helpful. Decent selection of food and drinks on the menu. Cocktails were quite good. The food, however, wasn't anything to write home about. While not bad, it definitely wasn't the best. If anything, it was quite bland. Warm and cozy atmosphere. Decent value for money.

I haven't been here in a while and coming back after such a long time... It hasn't changed. The food, the vibe and the staff are all the same. It's just great. Great to visit with family and friends.

I'd like to rate them 3,5 but can't as there are no half values. Ordered take aways from here this evening. Had the rump bites, veg and onion rings. Kids had calamari, husband had mushroom dish. I thoroughly enjoyed my food. Meat was delicious, tender and tasty. Veg was nice.. Everything was really good. A definite regular for my future take aways.

I know most people will have look online and assume this place is a dungeon and would steer clear from this spot. Looks can be deceiving thou. Personally I would recommend they redo their website pictures because it’s not really well presented online. Anyway back to my review. I would definitely rate this establishment a hidden gem. The decor and ambiance is beautiful and the staff are extremely efficient and friendly. They serve the most hearty portions of food but the stunner has to lie in the pure quality of the food. My recommendation would be their steaks and ribs. One of the best steaks in the south. My family and I truly enjoyed our relaxed lunch and will certainly be back again!

First of all this place is awesome!! I enjoy the vibe and friendly people that comes here. We first started our night off with some drinks at the bar; where we were served by a friendly barman, we decided to have a meal so we moved to the restaurant and we were kindly seated by Kathryn our waiter who kindly took our food order and served us a beautiful meal :I had a rump served rare with chips and my fiancé Had a small platter of chicken bites and rump bites served with two appropriate sauces and a well presented side salad. Overall the food was good at a reasonable price and we will definitely be returning !

Wow!!!! The best steak Ive had in years! Generous portion of steak. Tasty, perfectly done. Price is not unreasonable, unlike the rest of Cape Town. The seating is a bit cramped though. The place is unpretentious and suited for down to earth folk, it has a party vibe with live music so it makes a good night out with friends.

The food at Pirates seldom disappoints. The venue is...eclectic and dated, but this only adds to the experience. The steak is yummy and the ribs are mouth watering!

Worst meal ever. Over priced and terrible food. Ambience cold, the steak was not tender and for R160 we got five small really terrible ribs. Not recommended.

All I have to say about this place is Try Aunty Millie’s Steak.. Really good steaks and generous portions. They open till late as well so it’s a good after party pit stop. They have been around for years and yet their food still tastes the same! Can never go wrong with a Good Pirates Steak!!

The place to come to for good pub food in the early hours of any given day. Had a bacon and feta pizza...wow...was impressed. The pizza base was crispy and thick enough for a thin crust. It was a well-topped pizza, they definitely were not shy about adding the ingredients. At the time when the order was made, the atmosphere was abuzz. This seems to be the place to be.

Interesting place in that it has a dedicated pub section and a restaurant section. The inside makes you feel like you are in the bowels of a ship and overall it’s a bit dark. The live music this evening was a blah, not a fan of back tracks but I guess it does add something different? <br/><br/>Food wise I had a steak and it was done to perfection. Exceptionally tasty portion of rump steak. The chips were okay nothing too wow. The strawberry milkshake was good and thick and everything a milkshake should be but the chocolate one didn’t pack that sweet chocolatey goodness punch. <br/><br/>My one gripe is that award prestige should wear off after 5 years. It’s great all getting recognized in 1992/1993 for good food but we are in 2017. It would be cooler to see a constant list of awards showcasing their ability to keep up with the times. <br/><br/>It did make me sad that on this occasion we attended a friends birthday and there were about 20 or so of us eating only to have the birthday girl stuck with unnecessary empty chair charges (people left after their meal) and extra service charges (after each person paid towards this on their own bill). Not cool

Great evening out. Been wanting to try this place out for a while now and finally got the chance with some work mates. The food was really grand and the live music entertainment was really top notch.

Great steaks at pirates! I had a fillet- cooked to a perfect medium rare- with creamed spinach and onions rings (both delicious! ) <br/>Not the most fancy looking place, but the food is pretty good.

I've only been here once, during the day and my visit was only somewhat pleasant. There is quite a bit of parking in the street so that's not really a problem. <br/>The ambiance in the restaurant was lacking, but that's possibly because it was the middle of the day and this place has more of a pub/nightlife kind of vibe to it. <br/><br/>On arrival, there was nobody to give us a menu and after waiting about 5 minutes I went to fetch two myself. Our table was also dirty - sticky patches on the table clearly from the night before. You also have to go through the back (past the kitchen) to get to the bathrooms and although the restrooms were clean and modern, the walk there isn't very nice for a customer. <br/><br/>I ordered the chicken jalapeño and cheese sauce burger with half veg (butternut and creamed spinach) and half chips. The butternut was very sweet and the chips tasted like they had been fried ages ago. However, the burger itself was tasty and filling and there was no shortage of the cheesy jalapeño sauce covering the crumbed chicken fillet on the burger - so much so that I couldn't finish the sauce! <br/><br/>My friend ordered the beef, bacon and cheddar cheese burger with chips. She said it was tasty but we noticed the beef patty was crumbling and falling apart on her plate while she tried to eat it. She also said her chips didn't taste very fresh. <br/><br/>Our food was served within 15 minutes and our waitress checked up on us a few times to make sure we were enjoying the food.<br/><br/>All in all, this wasn't a very good experience at Pirates. I'd like to come here again when it's busier (at night, I assume) so that the food is freshly made and the ambiance is better.

The meal was delicious but the dining experience was pathetic. The service was lacking. Our waitress seemed more in a hurry than anything. We got our meal and only after asking for steak knives. No glassware was brought with the drinks. The salad that was ordered never arrived. Things used to be much better at pirates.

Staff is rude and don't care about the clients they push you when they need to get past you and don't say a thing when you confront them about their rudeness all that say is they work here not you and they are in the right all

The food is pretty great. Do you still serve the ribs? Those were the best Cape Town had in my opinion. I don't see them on the menu anymore.

Casual, relaxed pub ambiance with great food on offer. Comprehensive varied menu, satisfactory service and live music every now and then. Generally a fun cost effective evening out.

I'm not sure who voted this place the best steak in Cape Town but they must obviously have been comparing it to Spur because while it wasn't a bad steak it certainly wasn't the best and they obviously have no faith in their steak and feel the need to drown it in a very sugary sauce. I love the look of the restaurant and the little booths that you can sit in and not feel like you're on top of everyone else but the food and the options were just very average.

Surprised by the good food, which I feel has to do with the fine quality of the meat. Sometimes they have singers/bands, and sometimes they are really loud and sometimes they really aren't great lol. Otherwise inexpensive and brilliant for watching sports 💪

So me and a former colleague, who lives in Woodstock, decided to go there despite the madness of traffic on a Saturday. We were greeted by a kindly lady named Libby. I ordered a Captains Rump 500g medium-well with veggies along with pepper sauce (see photo) and she ordered this fillet (can't remember the name exactly). We waited for a while even though the restaurant was quiet and the 2 of us along with 2 other people were present. Wow, I must give 2 thumbs up to the kitchen staff for preparing and waiter, Libby for serving that succulent steak. Only con is having to enter the restaurant through the pub area during the day but furthermore service was brilliant and professional; will definitely return with family next time. U guys are tops.

We we pleasantly surprised at the quality of restaurant. The food, service and cleanliness in the restaurant was excellent value for money. The owner visited each table and we enjoyed her hearty friendliness. Great live music on the Thursday we were there 4 weeks ago.

Arguably the best steak i have had in Cape Town. Its not your typical steak ranch so dont expect a Spur vibe. It felt a bit dodge to be quite honest but as said - the food was excellent and the service was friendly.

We have heard about Pirates but have never been because of the dodgy neighbourhood, but yesterday decided to give it a try. The decor inside is old and tired but that is more than made up for by the great food! My fillet steak was prepared to perfection. The food is excellent, service is average, pity about the location.

You can always count on Pirates for perfect steaks and burgers. They never let you done. They deliver consistent quality & value for money.<br/>For our party of 4, using 2 entertainer vouchers and having 2 starters, 4 mains, 2 sauces and 6 drinks, the bill was R390. Excellent value.<br/>Our steaks were moist and tender and basted in their renowned sauce. The chips & onion rings were perfection - no oily residue.<br/>My mushroom sauce was thick, creamy & flavourful. <br/>All lip smackingly delicious!

I'm not a huge fan of the cramped, grungy interior. We went with a big group for a friend's birthday. I don't think I would have visited otherwise. But having said that, the service was efficient and friendly, the food came out quickly and the Rump was not bad. The flour based sauces and veg are not appealing to me though.

I like to go to pirates from time to time. Their steaks are not too bad and their entertainment is very enjoyable. You can enjoy some benefits if you belong to the Pirates club

The hubby and I popped into Pirates for an impromptu mid-week dinner. Music and service were great. However, I was not blown away by the food. The steak that we ordered was a little bland, which is not how I know Pirates steak to be. Hopefully it was just an off night on the grill. Will still be back for another try.

It has always been hard, as far back as I can remember, to find a table at Pirates. So recently we decided to have dinner at 5:30 pm, and have it at Pirates. We were 1 of 3 tables, so you can say the place was practically empty. The service is absolutely terrible. The waitress even got our orders wrong. Food is mediocre. Not worth the fuss made about the place. Burgers are very dry. The only burger or meal I WOULD recommend is the steak. Will definitely not make a second trip here.

Best pub food with competitive prices. Honestly the best pepper sauce pizza I have ever had. Hidden in the southern suburbs, some people find it quite dark, but I personally love the cosy vibe! The bar is a jol too!

Good old fashioned pub food. Great cheese burger and lovely fillet steak! Good value for money. Traditionally still serving creamed spinach and butternut as side veg option...classic! They had live music on Tuesday night and thats the only criticism..its so loud. Creates vibey atmosphere but don't think about having a decent conversation! Very friendly staff, always!

I prefer my steak naked so can't comment on their various sauces/fillings/toppings. The steak is good, chips are good, onion rings are great but vegetable sides are a let down for me. Standard bechamel sauced spinach and sugary butternut; I go with the chips over veg every time.

Stumbled upon this one, and it did *not* disappoint! Their food is great, and the live music just sets the mood perfectly. A firm favourite :)

The best thing about Pirates is their awesome huge portions of delicious food! We had a big birthday function at Pirates, with about 20 people and every single person loved their food and only had good things to say. I love the burger and steak combinations, and the ribs were truly a winner. It beats quite a few other top rib rated restaurants.<br/><br/>The service is a little average, they don't look to happy to be there and I always felt like we were trying to find them, but the management of the restaurant is very good. <br/><br/>Love the music they were playing, it created an awesome vibe :)<br/><br/>

Always been impressed with this place. Their platters are always a hit, their ribs and steaks are utterly awesome. Can't imagine anything on the menu not being good.

We arrived at the restaurant at 18:00 and we were the only patrons in the restaurant. Needless to say we were served immediately. I ordered a steak and the rest of the family ordered burgers. We requested burgers to be cooked medium and my steak the same.<br/><br/>The burgers and steak was perfectly cooked. I have recently had steak at 2 much more upmarket establishments and they do not come close to the rump I had at Pirates. It was tender and not sinewy or chewy at all. Definitely worth the money.<br/><br/>One thing to note though is that they only have female servers and they are wearing the shortest of short dresses. Even my 9 year old had something to say about it. Definite eye candy if you are a single male.<br/><br/>Service was excellent. They usually have live entertainment which is quite nice but I think we were too early for that.

We recently had a wonderful meal at this iconic steakhouse in the southern suburbs. We were a party of 6 and granted, we were there on the rebound after a rather disappointing previous visit. That said, the staff and most importantly..the chef got it spot on this time around. The management even went so far as to pay for the wine which we had....far beyond our expectations.....but just shows how seriously they take complaints from regular patrons who know what Pirates are capable of producing. So a really big thumbs up for all at Pirates...including the live entertainment which made for a memorable evening....we'll definitely be back me hearties!!

On Saturday our party of 6 were given the wonderful opportunity by pirates management to redeem themselves after a bad experience a few weeks ago! Well did they deliver. ..yes man!!.thats what im talking about!..steak that melts in the mouth and service to write home about! Thank u Pirates Plumstead. ..I'll be back...

Been back to Pirates on Saturday evening with a couple of good friends who enjoy good food and good music, my last experience was somewhat of a bummer, thats in the past?<br/>Had the most amazing Rump with fat grilled to perfection as requested,no basting for me,thats the best way to enjoy a rare steak.a Pirates steak,<br/>Thanks guys we all had a blast and enjoyed the food.<br/><br/> <br/><br/><br/>If ever Im in the mood for a steak,then Pirates is my most bestest steak joint in town, today was their off day, on two occasions my steak was not what I ordered,however we all will have an off day,<br/>Today the chefs did not get it right,<br/>Lets see next time, which will be soon.<br/>Come on guys we know the Pirates standard.<br/>

Great food, great service and reasonably priced and we will definitely return soon. The Privateers club principle makes sense and gives you around 20% saving on meals and drinks <br/>

Best steak in ct, great prices but crappy service

Amazing food. Awesome live music in the restaurant side. Gambling area on the bar side. Dance floor with a DJ who plays great music. What more could you ask for? Their food is not too badly priced for what you get - the steaks are a must have! They also do amazing cocktails. Pirates is definitely a place to go if you are in the mood for a good steak, friendly service and an awesome vibe!

For a good steak and wide selection of steak dishes at affordable prices, Pirates is the place to go. I have been here on more than one occasion and now have a membership card which entitles one to discounted rates! Also have live entertainment! And their dom pedros are amazing & yummy! Great place for friends and family to attend. They have a bar and casino slots next door.
