Review The Wild Fig - Cape Town Central

crystal kid
lovely venue, peaceful and tranquil, with a very good selection on the new menu. I inadvertently left my shoulder bag on the chair when we left and retrieved it thanks to management the next day. Sadly an item had been removed. none the less the food is superb. Highly recommended.

I ordered the crispy duck while my friend had the lamb shank. On the day, my duck was overcooked, and the manager offered any other dish on the menu. I then also opted for the lamb shank, which was absolutely delicious. The service was really outstanding. When the bill arrived, management did not charge me for my lamb shank, which was most thoughtful and welcome. I'd highly recommend The Wild Fig and would certainly return there.

Nice atmosphere for a summer afternoon if you want somewhere with outdoor seating. Smoker-friendly. Opted for the fish and chips and it did not dissappoint, albeit heftier prices than a typical lunch spot. Brilliant service, will be happy to go back

Great atmosphere/vibe. But of a schlep to get to during peak traffic times though. Good views of a club and food/drink choices if you want to wait for traffic to ease up

Lovely setting, nice food, lamb ragout was very tasty but the 3 or 4 small bones spoiled it a bit, almost broke a tooth, still a great place with a nice selection of dishes and friendly staff, worth a visit. JULY2023: OK, I've added a 4th star, was there this evening, and both my starter (baked camembert) and my main (butter chicken curry) were great. Curry was mild and tasty and the basmati rice was excellent! Service was great too!

Their outdoor sitting is the best for a group. Restaurant perfect for the night out and day sittings.. I loved it

It has a lovely relaxed atmosphere especially for the summer months and the vibe is very easy. This is not a place you come to to rush - it facilitates a nice long slow lunch and chats with friends. There's outdoor and indoor seating, access for wheelchair users, and neat and clean bathrooms. It's not fine dining, but the rustic envionrment is well-hidden away and they seem to serve a regular crowd. Food is good and well-prepared, though some might find the speed of service a bit lacking. Drink selection cold be improved, but overall, nothing that harms the experience.

My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at “the wild fig restaurant” this past Monday and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with warm hospitality that set the tone for the evening. The highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the exquisite cuisine. We ordered the butter chicken and lamb shank, and each dish was a culinary masterpiece. The butter chicken was rich and right amount of spice made it more flavourful, while the lamb shank was so succulent it practically melted in our mouths. Chef Abi, greeted us and offered us the wild fig cake making it the perfect ending to our meal. Our whole dining experience was truly elevated by the personal touch from Chef Abi himself. He took the time to come to our table and inquire our experience. We will surely visit again.

Cozy Restaurant, great service with top class food, beautifully prepared.

A delightful afternoon in a beautiful setting. The patio evokes a wine farm atmosphere right here in Obs, with stunning views of the mountain. The food and service was excellent.

I enjoyed the visit. The duck was very good.

We popped into this place yesterday for a quick lunch. I had be recommended it by friends as was close by. It certainly didn’t disappoint. Charles our waiter was eloquent and smart. He put us next to the fire as it was cold and wet outside, then tempted us with the specials. We both went for the bangers and mash which were served quickly and were superb. Great mash and gravy. Will definitely return to try more on the menu if we are in the vicinity.

A hidden diamond in the middle of Cape Town, really good restaurant with a well choice of wines and amazing food! Marriott Crystal Tower was sold out and randomly they send me to the Marriott Protea Mowbray, middle of nowhere, but good restaurant!

First time visit after a recommendation from family. The kudu medallions were lovely with the peppercorn sauce (arrived cooler than expected though). The roasted vegetables were great (especially potatoes). My highlight was the peppermint terrarium! So good and delicate and a feast for the eyes. Location was great, and easy to find with good parking. My cousin and I enjoyed it!

Had a great time celebrating a friends belated birthday. Happy hour from 5 to 7. Meal of Karoo lamb ragout was better than expected. Really delicious. More than enough sauce in the dish, could have had a little bit more chunkier pieces of meat.

We did not have a booking but were lucky enough to get a table. Everything on the menu sounded very good, i settled on the slow cooked pork belly. Slow cooked for 8hrs! It was perfect, it melted like butter. Served with vegetables and crispy crackeling. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

Lovely solo dinner at The Wild Fig mid week. Relaxed atmosphere, fire in the grate to keep the cold away and gentle soulful music by candlelight. Quite lovely. Food and wine very enjoyable!

We had a work function upstairs and away from the main restaurant. Well equipped with a projector for a dinner function with a speaker and had an IT guy to assist in setting up. Enjoyed a lovely 3 course dinner and great service from the staff. Tge Wild Fig restaurant is famous for their Crispy duck, so I would recommend it if that is your taste! The main restaurant is nice and cosy but you also have the option of sitting in the the garden area.

Went here last night for a birthday dinner for 8. Setting is lovely, everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Waiter seemed very friendly and efficient until the bill came. We said we had the entertainer app but he claims that we had to tell him before we sat down and ordered? So refused at first to do the discount. I've bought the app and had it for 3 consecutive years, never had that been on the terms and conditions. He just wanted a hiftier tip and did not not think we'd tip him according to original bill. So basically tried his luck. It was a celebration of someone's birthday so the dispute made the entire experience unpleasant. I won't be back there but if you not using the entertainer. It's worth a visit.<br/><br/>

Another disappointing visit. Food was good (not exciting and the plating is unimaginative ad ever, also no green veg in sight) and ambiance was good only because of the heritage room and fireplace, except when the waiter serving outside (10C and cold wind) left the door open constantly to serve a table making sure the temperature inside nosedived. Brrrr! The room was cold when we entered despite a small fire in the fireplace - too small for such a big room. My measure of a restaurant in winter besides the usual stuff is: if you have to keep your uncomfortable jacket on, it’s not worth the visit, go elsewhere. I’m not going to bore you with the details but I am uninspired by the service. Several times I have been in winter and sat at a table almost on top of the fireplace but have had to get up to stoke the fire or place more logs on it, with the wait staff standing by watching; tonight another woman from another table was doing this as well. There have been amazing staff in the past which have kept us returning and tipping generously but the ( all-male) staff tonight exuded an arrogance that was palpable and unfriendly. There’s a dynamic that’s developed and I won’t be going back until it changes. Sad really because I used to love this place and have had many small and large occasions there. Not what it used to be but it could be!

The restaurant was mostly empty, but it took around 3 minutes before we were acknowledged when we arrived. The service for the remainder of the evening was friendly, but terribly slow and not welcoming. By that, I mean the staff seemed nice, but they seemed to be going through the motions. I asked to taste a specific wine, but the taster took 10 minutes to arrive. It took 50 minutes for our mains of lamb shank and pork belly to be served. Whether this is the normal time or not, our waiter never approached us to reassure us that our food was on the way, or was taking longer than usual etc. The meals were both delicious and well prepared, but the complimentary vegetables were mostly undercooked, which was very disappointing, especially since they could have been very carefully prepared in the 50 minutes it took to receive our meals.<br/>For the high rating and reviews I've read, I was much expecting a lot more. Based on this experience, I wouldn't recommend the restaurant to friends who would be paying high prices for a mediocre experience.

We spend our anniversary date here a week ago. It was not my first time visiting, but the greek lamb in phyllo pastry made a huge impression on me, I had to have it again.<br/>My biggest issue was the fact that when we arrived, even though I had booked, we did not have a table prepared for us and when we were eventually seated, we were given a table with a very dirty table cloth, and no table setting laid. This was not very welcoming or inviting.<br/><br/>That being said, we had a lovely waiter who engaged us at all points during the evening, and food was really good, as expected.
Megan João (Jacobs)
This place is such a hidden gem! Delicious food, cozy, warm, romantic atmosphere, with a fireplace - lovely for a chilly evening! The service was excellent. Waiter was efficient, friendly, and made great suggestions. Had a lovely evening here. Really liked the warm atmosphere and good food, will be back to try more from the menu :) the pork belly is a must, the cheesecake was also delicious.
Amanda Turner
I loved the atmosphere and the food was great. Our waiter checked in on us and we weren't forgotten about even though it was quite busy. Overall good service and really great food.

Great atmosphere when looking for a warm place on a cold winter's evening in Cape Town. There were four of us. 2 of us had starters, the Camembert and the Sardines. Both were delicious. For main courses we ordered a steak, some lamb in pastry, the pork belly and the lamb shank. The latter was my choice. While the shank was extremely tasty, I must admit that I expected a bit more meat on the bone. There was lots of mash which however was a little bit too stiff for my taste. Out waiter was very efficient and friendly. So, in a nutshell: it was a very nice evening.

I loved the atmosphere and the fireplace is perfect for the cold nights. It feels like you are somewhere in the winelands minus the long drive. <br/><br/>Had a risotto and it was delicious and didn’t miss the meat at all. Service was great and our waiter knew the menu well. The pies are also made to order and you can be guaranteed freshness.<br/><br/>The only odd thing was that we were asked if we wanted bread. Can’t wait to get back for live music.

After craving chocolate fondant and finding out that el burro is closed on Sundays, I turned to google to find other places who served the dessert. Happened upon this restaurant and the zomato reviews were pretty good.<br/><br/>To start we shared the mushroom tart served with a small side salad, this was extremely fresh and had just the right balance of cheese. I could’ve easily eaten five more by myself. Then I had the sirloin and chips pub lunch (R75) which was served with homemade Mc Donald’s type fries & lightly basted in a bbq sauce. The “knock off” Tabasco sauce they have fully hits the chilli spot. Zen had the fish and chips pub lunch (R75) which was lightly battered with wonderfully crispy bits.<br/><br/>To end off I had the fondant, served with orange sorbet. The fondant was an extreme let down, it could’ve done with five more minutes in the oven. The outer shell was hardly cooked and the inside was cold, thick and sludgy, not at all like the warm velvety liquid you expect. The sorbet was a refreshing take, as most fondants I’ve had are served with vanilla ice cream. This added a much needed freshness to the dish and cut through the thick sludge with ease. The white chocolate cheesecake on the other hand was a total win. Served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, the baked cheesecake is smooth and not super sweet. The perfect way to end of a good meal. <br/><br/>The restaurant itself is a hidden gem, and I always wondered what was at the end of the road near the river club. I will be back for the pocket friendly pub lunch but will definitely opt for the cheesecake next time around.

A wonderful quaint restaurant that really does feel like you are out in the country and worlds away from the bustle of Cape Town and Observatory. Food and service was impeccable. I had the risotto and the rest of my table had the chicken curry which they said was delicious. Kids menu options available. A greet family or date restaurant!

Went for my birthday dinner, everyone enjoyed their meals, very sweet waitress, food is good value for your money, and very pretty location. Will definitely go back again

We love Wild Fig and go there often. Wish there were more veggie options, but the Ratatouille bake is a winner! Great wine selection 👌🏾 great service.<br/><br/><br/>19 April<br/>Went there again tonight, 3d time this year and was blown away! They had a goats cheese panna cotta with beet coulis as a special, say whaaaat! We are healthy eaters, so this was a nice treat. Something that can be eaten as a dessert AND starter. The Fairview Extrano is ALWAYS a winner! Fantastic service with a flair 🙌🏽
Alex The Entertainer
---Entertainer Accepted--- This was a lovely experience trying something different, way out of my comfort zone, and gosh did I enjoy it, lovely to sit outside but best not go on a windy day sitting inside is wonderful but you won't be able to experience the true beauty and nature around the wild. Went as a table of 6 all meals were different, and nobody within that 6 nobody had a single complaint, with regards to anything, I had the spicy chorizo and chicken pasta, and it seems like the portions are small but you will be mistaken, my friend was so impressed with the pork belly he was willing to share and it was phenomenal, it is with regret that I cannot compliment my waitress she was simply the best, she made us feel comfortable and welcomed, would definitely advise everybody to make time to visit the fig

What a hidden gem. And thanks to the Entertainer for helping us find it. <br/><br/>Freshly Baked Farmstyle Bread to start off with, followed by sharing the Camembert with hubby. The camembert was refreshlingy done different (no crumbs!) Baked, and served with the sweetest figs, Almonds and Crusty Bread. A must try. <br/><br/>For dinner, I had the tasty and filling Salmon Fish Cakes with Cucumber and Lemon/Chilli aioli. The portion was massive! Hubby had the lamb shank and reckons it's in his top 3 best he's ever had. <br/><br/>We decided to go the full monty and squeezed in dessert. I had the Peppermint Crisp Terrarium which was a different take on our local Mint Crisp Tart. It included all my favourites including bits of meringue and salted caramel ice cream. Hubby dared the White Chocolate Cheesecake and it was perfection. <br/><br/>Service was excellent. The setting perfect. My advice: go hungry!

Was not sure what to expect of this place and was pleasantly surprised. A quaint cost atmosphere and a sense of elegance greets you as you walk in.<br/>The menu did not have much of a selection and the thing of “not doing much but doing it well” was absolutely true. I was able to taste the pork belly, lamb shank and butter chicken and all had their own charm and were great. The desert, however, I believe deserves special mention - the peppermint tart terrarium was the most intricately put together desert I have seen in a long time. I thoroughly enjoyed eating this.

We had our end of year dinner here. It's got a nice layout with a courtyard area where we had sundowners. I had a gin and tonic and strawberry daiquiri, their made drinks are not great! The meals, we had risotto which I enjoyed as a starter, chicken breast dish for mains which was a bit dry but enjoyable still and brownie for dessert. I can say their food is good, accompanied with great plating.

Wow! If you want to escape the busy city life and have a wholesome meal then this restaurant is the place for you. My chicken pie was full of flavour and perfectly cooked and served with scrumptious roasted vegetables. My boyfriend had the butter chicken curry that was beautifully presented and delicious! The service was friendly and all the staff were delightful. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience. Can't wait to go back and try more on the menu.

This place is truly amazing! A delight, a joy. The food tastes so yummy and the staff was so kind. I truly enjoyed the wine and the great finds section was so enticing. It's quite the romantic setting inside, but a great and vibey setting outside.

I really think this restaurant is a hidden gem in cape town. The first time we went really was pure quality in every aspect but my girlfriend and I had a terribly disappointing time here last week with regards to the food. The service was still fantastic.<br/>We had the goat chops which were a special for the evening. Holy mackerel I've never eaten something so inedible before. By far the toughest and most frustrating meal I've possibly ever had. The risotto it came with was at least delicious. The duck was also average at best. Not bad, just very mediocre. I love this place and think its worth another go but hopefully they have a better night.

We had booked for lunch on Saturday after hearing good things about the Wild Fig. The restaurant was fairly quiet. We sat inside which was lovely decorated and was great that they had a fireplace with fire going on a cold day. So overall impressions as we walked in looked promising. My mother and me ordered the duck, which we were told was their specialty, unfortunately we were  let down. The duck was extremely dry and unappetizing. My step father ordered the lamb, which was extremely tough. My husband had the chirzo and chicken pasta which he said was ok, but nothing to right home about. The only things that we enjoyed were our dessert in which we had the chocolate fondant and creme brulee.  I certainly would not rush back there again.

I stayed at the hotel nearby and decided on The Wild Fig because it seemed to be busy all the time. <br/><br/>The staff were polite but not very warm or welcoming. They showed us the menu and it took ages for them to take our order and to bring the bill in the end. We actually had to walk to the card machine and stand around to get someone's attention.<br/><br/>We ordered lots of vegetarian things off the menu which wasn't anything fabulous. I always feel like vegetarian options are put on as a consolation for those who don't eat protein. <br/><br/>I don't think I'll be heading back unfortunately.

The Wild Fig has been around for as long as I can remember, but I have not been in over 10 years, until yesterday. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The ambiance lends itself to winter days, with the fire place and pub feel. service was good. The menu is pretty basic, with classic dishes, but they do have daily specials as well. I had the steak dish for mains and it was absolutely fantastic! My starter was a daily salmon special served with a seasonal salad and it was also delicious. The food was all in all absolutely divine. The only reason I cannot give more than 4 stars is because the menu does feel a bit archaic, and needs an upgrade. But then again, why change a good thing?

Dark drizzly Sunday night. Bit of a wild goose chase to find the place. Google maps sent us to Valkenberg psychiatric hospital. <br/>Back on track, restaurant is pretty empty but there's a fire and pretty fairy lights strung across the ceiling. We've ordered sparkling water. Takes long to get to the table. The waiter, who's very gorgeous, explains he's pressurized by a party in the bar. The manager takes over. <br/>The menu is... er... really retro. Feels like I'm back in the 90's. There's a Chateau Libertas 1988 on the wine list to match the food. Choose Radford Dale Frankenstein 2015 instead. Takes long to get to the table. <br/>Springbok hot pot - bit dry; bit salty. <br/>Salmon fish cakes - very nice. Maybe need something crispy on the plate. <br/>My Greek salad's fresh; very nice feta; and starter sardines are okay - I find them oily but that's the nature of deep fried. <br/>The desserts are retro-priced at between R43 & R48. We share the peppermint crisp terrarium. It comes in a glass terrarium! It's nice enough. <br/>All in all, a pleasant evening. Probably nicer to come during the day and sit outside.

I think I'd be lying if I said I had a fine dining experience here. Which is wildly disappointing. It's a really beautiful restaurant with a lovely, romantic ambience. Food looked good but I'm not sure how in 2017 we STILL so few vegetarian/other options- so archaic. Regardless we ordered all fish options- fish cakes, yellowtail and prawns- as well as one ratatouille. Overall the fish was rather mediocre. The ratatouille was not what I was expecting but was tasty. Good for the ONLY veg dish on the menu. Overall I dunno what this restaurant does well if they can't get a basic fish or veg dish to be amazing, given their reputation. The service was rather disappointing too- we waited almost an hour for our food and didn't see our waiter once during that wait, until the food came. We were basically forgotten about. Overall, not the best dining experience.

I have been going to the Wild Fig for more than 20 years both when living in Cape Town and when visiting on business and always have enjoyed the foid and the ambience. This particular time was with 3 work colleagues. We ordered some wine and I and one other had the chicken livers and camembert starters all very nice. For mains 2 of us had steak and the other pork belly. My colleagues meals were both fine but my steak was almost raw in parts when supposed to be medium rare. I sent it back and asked for another. The waiter returned and told me that the Chef disagrees and I am wrong. I then called the manager who having seen the steak himself agreed with me and said the Chef was incorrect and asked me if he could personally make me another. I said no as it was already late. The waiter then aplogised for the poor service and I paid the bill. I hope this was an isolated incident and that there was internally at the restaurant some corrective actions put in place to ensure this type of thing never occurs again. On a final note I did ask to see the Chef so that he could show me why he thought the steak was cooked properly, but he never appeared. Will I gonto the Wild Fig again? Not sure to be honest experiences like this are difficult to forget when you are paying an R800 + bill and you only ate a starter yourself.

New Review:<br/>The reason for the changed review: <br/>We went back the the wild Fig recently and were pleasantly surprised. The staff was extremely accommodating to our needs and the owner made the risotto for us even though it wasn't on the menu. The other dishes are well worth it and it's become one of our favorite restaurants in Cape Town again!🐙 <br/>Original review:<br/>This used to be our favorite restaurant in Cape Town. ( literally last year) Originally highly underrated they served food worthy of stars but weren't often noticed by the Cape Town crowd; as their location is not well advertised. But believe us this was the place to get the best food in Cape Town. Now the reason for the negative start of this review is because our favorite dish - the porcini truffle mushroom risotto - was recently taken off the menu after a season change ( the biggest mistake they could ever make if you us). Their quality of food slowly started to slip ( new management?). That aside they still have good food with a stunning location. It may not be a beach but it shows another side of Cape Town terrain that's worthy of being noticed. They will easily become our favorite restaurant again if they would just bring back that risotto and live up to their previous quality of food.

Came over at around 4pm and the kitchen was closed already?? Anyway pub lunch still available and we enjoyed the chicken, beef burgers which was served quickly. Setting is peaceful, quiet... waiters are friendly and not overwhelming like most C.T restuarants

The setting is really nice.... think you guys are just set waaaaaaaaay in the past. The food is so outdated.... pretty much like the patrons of the restaurant. In a city like Cape Town you need to keep up with the times. I was informed the duck recipe has been on the menu for 15 years..... its time you retire it.... its old, boring and really nothing memorable. The only thing that tasted good was the roast potato.... you can thank mcain for that. Im not being nasty... just honest.... you have lasted a long time but if you dont step it up you wont last much longer.

I must say, as I was driving to this restaurant and passed Falkenberg (the mental institution), I was like, oh my word what sort of eatery places themselves right next to a loony bin? But my suspicions and doubt were cast away by the delightful service and amazingly tasty food. <br/><br/>I went there for a work function so there were at least 30 of us there. My pet peeve about big dinners and set menus is that the food never comes out hot. But The Wild Fig made sure that our meals were expertly prepared, well presented and most importantly, hot!! Like it was straight out of the grill. <br/><br/>The starter was some tomato/cheesy thing and it was sooooo good. Mains I had duck and dessert was a selection of treats. They were all fantastic. Wine was decent too!!<br/><br/>Really great experience:)
Richard
Tasty pasta, and great springbok pot. Atmosphere is chilled, especially outside on a warm evening. Note that a liquor licence is still under review, So no booze currently. That said, it's worth going anyway. Also... this place is in OBSERVATORY and not Mowbray... not that that matters anyway!
The Foodie Corner
I've heard of this "hidden gem" and have been wanting to visit it for a while now. And considering it's in the Entertainer, it made the perfect choice for a budget date night on a cold winters evening.<br/><br/>We arrived early and were greeted by our very friendly waiter, who showed us to our table for two by the fireplace. We were the only people in the restaurant, and it only started to fill up by the time we were finished with our mains, so we basically had the whole restaurant to ourselves for most of the night, making for a very intimate, romantic evening.<br/><br/>At this stage, they don't serve any alcohol, but you're welcomed to bring your own drinks. We didn't feel like drinking, so we stuck with the water they offered us on arrival. Before ordering, we were brought a bread basket, filled with the most deliciously fresh bread that I've had in a very long time. I'd forgotten how it tastes to eat freshly baked farm bread - so fresh and warm that the butter instantly melts when you put it on the bread. Fantastic way to start the evening!<br/><br/>Ever night, they have a few off-the-menu specials. This night, the starter specials were scallops and springbok carpaccio. For mains, they were offering beef fillet and their line fish was sea bass. I was so confused - my favorite type of fish to eat is sea bass, but I had already set my eyes on the crispy duck. I was fixed on the pumpkin soup, but scallops... However, I decided to stick to my first choice and order the soup and the duck. My better half went all out springbok and ordered the carpaccio and the hot pot for mains.<br/><br/>Our starters arrived promptly. Perhaps it was because we arrived before the evening rush hour, but the service was very quick, nothing like the slowness a lot of reviewers have complained about. My soup was delicious - thick and rich, I couldn't finish it or else I would've popped by the end of the night. The pumpkin seeds added a nice bit of texture to the dish, but I thought the addition of the cranberries were a bit unnecessary - you couldn't really taste them and if you did, they didn't work too well with the pumpkin. My only other critique was that the 3 slices of bread it was served with were ice cold - I was expecting them to be as fresh from the oven as the slices we'd had earlier, so I was a bit disappointed. The springbok carpaccio wasn't bad, but also not great. An average dish and something you wouldn't remember or order again. In short, we enjoyed our starters, but it wasn't anything spectacular.<br/><br/>However, mains were another story. It was quite nice how our waiter asked if we were ready for our mains or if we'd like to wait a bit longer. We asked if we could have a few more minutes, since we were enjoying each others company and were quite cozy by the fire. When we were ready, they brought out our mains. The springbok was served in a mini potjie pot, layered with springbok, carrots and mushrooms and topped with mash. They give you a separate plate into which you can dish it out, but I would recommend eating it out of the pot (it can get quite messy trying to scoop it out of the pot and into your plate). Rustic, original presentation, but perhaps not all that practical. The springbok itself was perfection - soft soft soft meat, which is very difficult to achieve with springbok. But my better half felt there should've been more meat and less vegetables in the pot. My duck was devine - crispy like KFC, but without the unhealthy, icky oil. Soft, tender meat, not something you'd expect from a duck dish, since the meat is usually very tough. Cooked to perfection! Possibly the best crispy duck I've ever had in South Africa! It reminded me so much of the delicious crispy duck I had once on a trip to Germany, and ever since I've been looking for a dish that may come close to this. And now I have finally found it! And to top it all off, it's served in the most delicious sauce - I could literally have licked the plate clean. Mains get served with a complimentary side of roast vegetables, which consisted of potatoes, butternut, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, carrots and beetroot. I'm not a huge fan of cooked beetroot, so I can't comment on that, but I loved the butternut, sweet potatoes and pumpkin. The potatoes and carrots were a bit tasteless and sort of disappeared into the background. <br/><br/>We didn't even look at the dessert menu because we were too full! But satisfied - the food was fantastic and you definitely get what you pay for. Perhaps not the cheapest option around, but the Entertainer vouchers do help. The service was fantastic, our waiter was top notch, but I would recommend you come early (say at about 18:00) to avoid the dinner rush and slow service. The restaurant itself is very basic, made cozy and romantic by dimmed fairy lights, a cozy fireplace and a candlelit dinner. A perfect place for a romantic dinner date! I highly recommend this hidden gem (it's completely underrated) and would definitely return in future!

Fantastic setting when walking by the centuries old giant fig tree into a memorable pub for pre-meal drinks. The restaurant service and ambiance is excellent with the food an absolute delight. When staying at the hotel next door this venue is an ideal one.

I had dinner here with my wife last night and loved it. Their menu is very homely with dishes on it that are specialised and that you don't find anywhere such as crispy duck, Springbok Hot pot and lamb in Phylo pastry. I had the Springbok hot pot which was sublime and moreish. My wife's lamb shank was good but must admit have tasted better. I want to return to sample other menu options. Highly reccommended and the place itself is warm and cosy.

I had the crispy duck and I thought it was delicious! The service was a bit slow, I almost forgot I had a waiter at times, good thing I had the most amazing chat with the couple on the table next to me. Overall, a really pleasant place to dine.

Quaint restaurant set in a quiet area. Food is top quality and the menu is comprehensive and varied. Service is always good and there is a lovely outdoor, as well as an indoor seating area.

With a big reputation to live up to, we decided to try it out for lunch. What a pleasant surprise! Quietly stylish without being pretentious with exceptional food. I had Crispy Duck and G had Lamb Shank. The experience impressed so much, we returned two weeks later. In fact, as we looked at their menu now, we may go there today! <br/><br/>•●• UPDATE •●• We spotted their pub lunch special and tried it out. Despite our pennypinching ways, we were made to feel as welcome as before by the same friendly waiter named Astro who first tried to tempt us into succumbing to his well rehearsed list of specialist main courses. Money talks so G had steak and I the beer battered Hake each at a mere R65. Both generous portions were utterly delicious. The coating on my fish was especially crispy which I much prefer. The homemade tartare sauce was also very tasty. A sure bet in very pleasant surroundings - including white table linen and a cosy open fire.

Had a delicious supper at the Wild Fig. We had the snail popcorn - delicious, delicate snails in a beer battle shell and tuna carpaccio. For mains we had kingklip in a pea and mint sauce, with prawns - perfectly cooked and so tasty finished off with banana and pecan nut, brown bread ice cream delicious delight! Creative food and faultless execution. Excellent service and an imaginative well priced wine list. Wild fig is a firm favorite and look forward to returning soon.

Sunday lunch at The Wild Fig was such a lovely and heart-warming event! We will certainly be back, and probably Sunday after Sunday to come. <br/><br/>The Springbok Pot (slow-cooked Springbok stew served with creamy polenta) proved to be comfort food at its best - exactly what we were looking for! The wine list more-than-covers the local range and the pricing falls well within a realistic bracket. Service was quick, informative and friendly - nowadays more than you get from top spots in the city!<br/><br/>It might not be the 5* fine dining venue it was in the early 90's , but I comfortably rate The Wild Fig  4.5 on my scale of fabulosity.<br/><br/>And....I'll be back.

My wife and I had a lovely date night at this establishment. The staff were friendly, but not overly so. We decided to skip starters as we were both keen to have pudding for a change. My wife ordered the crispy duck with a van derhaum sauce & I had the lamb shank with a red wine jus and mashed potato. Both dishes were served with a side of root vegetables (the crispiest roast potatoes, parsnips, sweet potato & carrots). The duck was devine and the skin was almost like crackling it was that crispy. My lamb shank was heaven on a plate. Every bite melted in my mouth and was fall off the bone. The jus was delicious and full of flavour. For pudding my wife had the peppermint crisp which was a small portion but really flavoursome, I had the white chocolate cheese cake which was okay, but not something I will order again. I am glad I have ticked this one off my list & will certainly be back again.

What was our favorite restaurant in Cape Town is now our worst dinning experience in decades. From being seated at a table that would clearly have done the job for King Arthur and his round table, 6 of us had to raise our voices in order for the person on the other side of the table to hear the conversation. Our request to plead be moved to a suitable table at the beginning of the evening was rebuked with an extremely curt “NO”. Not any effort made to soften the “NO” or attempt to try and accommodate our request in anyway.<br/> <br/>We then decided to not let the curt managers attitude not ruin our evening, but that was only the beginning of what seemed like an evening that was set to test our patience in dinning out.<br/> <br/>After waiting what seemed like an age to order my drink, we then set about ordering dinner. 2 starters were ordered, and the waitress suggested we place our mains order at the same time. We took her advice accordingly. Then we waited over an hour, in this time our waitress disappeared and I do mean disappeared… Along with what seemed to be most of the other waiters. Most peculiar, then finally after an hour she appeared with the mains…. We had yet to receive our starters. The starters then appeared as though they were side dishes, and the side dishes arrived so late we had already started on our main dishes. The food was ice cold, my pork was so tough that it resembled a mini wooden bat. My partners chicken Tika was so watery it should have been resold as “Tika consommé”. The other members of the party had the same issues with their food.<br/> <br/>The manager who through the whole ordeal had been milling around the kitchen side of the restaurant briefly appeared, mumbled something incoherent about a bottle of white wine on the house to appease us for the shocking food. This was quite inappropriate as 4 of us didn't drink white wine, and we all were driving, so irrelevant really. It certainly didn't make things any better … And of course no explanation as to why our food was so late and so terrible.<br/> <br/>He then appeared again after our meal, and again waiting over 4O min for our plates to be cleared away. This was again due to the disappearance of our waitress for another hour. When she finally returned, we were told that the issue was she and the other waiters had to deliver food to a function, being held in a marquee over 200m outside the restaurant. We were shocked, that explained it all. Yet it wasn't good enough as our meal wasn't for free, we were paying for it. The manager sensing a growing distention amongst our table arrived again, yes again, from the depths of “The Kitchen”, offering us dessert, we declined as we had no intention of staying there another hour or 2 waiting for a dessert, which no doubt would have been disappointing. He then turned on his heel and stormed away, not a “I'm sorry I understand … Just stormed away.<br/> <br/>A member of our party then followed him back to the kitchen, to find him and discuss that it was not the waitresses fault, clearly she had been following instructions and eventually burst into tears of frustration, having to run out in the rain with food, and then return to face irate diners. His reply and I quote him here “It's because she's a woman and I'm a man that you are complaining to me, and blaming me.”<br/> <br/>We left after paying, and there was yet another confrontation with a female manager, who was aggressive and feeble in her response to us.<br/> <br/>The 6 of us, our families and friends will never ever go there again for dinner. If the manager had managed his restaurant in the correct manner, expected in the hospitality business, I am sure things would have turned out differently. Very disappointing.

The atmosphere was pleasant. The service was decent and friendly. The food came in good time. The food tasted good although I wouldn't say that it was spectacular. It is a really nice place for a relaxed evening.

This place is tucked away not far from the city with beautiful surroundings and a somehow casual yet relaxed atmosphere. <br/><br/>Service was incredibly slow right from the moment we arrived. The manager escorted us to our table and after a few minutes with still no waiter in sight the manager took our drinks order. Our drinks arrived 15 minutes later with no introduction from the waitress. <br/><br/>The lamb shank was tender and it falls off the bone but the mash accompanied the dish was underseasoned. The Springbok hot pot was nicely presented, tender and had good flavours. The polenta on top disintegrated with the sauce creating a mushy texture. The peppermint crisp terrarium was modern and well presented with the salted caramel ice cream that stood out for me. Overall the dishes are very homey but it didn't wow my tastebuds. <br/><br/>The restaurant has great potential but only if they allow themselves to pay attention to detail. This is a nice place to relax but if you are looking for a top notch restaurant with exceptional services then this place is not for you. <br/>

We waited. It took over an hour and a half for our main course to arrive. It got to the point where we had to alert our waitress and she acknowledged that it had been a long time and that she had raised the issue with the manager. Soon after the food was delivered by the manager, but he did nothing to acknowledge the situation or to make it right. That detracted from the meal considerably. <br/><br/>As for the meal itself it was nice but not exceptional. We ordered the springbok hot pot. And while the springbok was rich and had a good mix of flavours, it was accompanied by a measly side of cooked veggies. This meant that there we really only one flavor on the plate. <br/><br/>The location and ambiance was nice and excited us about the restaurant as we arrived. <br/><br/>Will we return? Right now the sentiment is doubtful.

We'd had wanted to try The Wild Fig for awhile and read the reviews. I called to book and after making the booking my inner Han Solo said "I've got a bad feeling about this". I cannot say we walked away fully happy. Ok so here's the breakdown... We arrived at the start of dinner service so it was a little empty, 3 maybe 4 tables full at the other end of the dining area. We never met out waiter until we were served our drinks (Service Manger took our drinks after sitting there for 15 mins). We ordered the lamb shank and the springbok pot and 25 mins later our food arrived. While the meals were quite good and tasty we were not Wow'ed. We opted for the peppermint crisp dish and was quite nice. The ambience is nice, the food is good but I feel the wait staff need a little refinement and this place could be top notch.

Decided to give the Wild Fig a try today after hearing multiple positive reviews about the restaurant. The Wild Fig is located on the outskirts of Mowbray and the restaurant has ample space and caters for whether you prefer indoor or outdoor seating.<br/><br/>The actual dining space and environment is extremely comforting and aesthetic. Perfect for either dinner or lunch, of which the latter my colleague and i embraced. <br/><br/>In terms of the food, we decided to make the most of their pub lunch special, which at face value represents great value for money. However, we were not blown away by the meal and left with our expectations unfortunately not met.<br/><br/>My burger was very ordinary and unfortunately i have had much better in the Cape Town vicinity. In addition, my colleague had the butter chicken which looked very enticing. However, the quality did not match the value of the hefty fee accompanying the meal.<br/><br/>All in all, it was a decent culinary experience. However, it is unfortunate that our expectations were not met today at lunch.

This hidden eatery is set in a beautiful garden area. I ordered the Springbok hot pot and my friend the Greek Lamb. The food was well presented but we were both disappointed by the taste of it. My Springbok was dry and actually tasted like a beef tomato stew. I tried some of my friend's lamb and this was dry too. We expected a more than average meal for the price we paid.

On the CBD's limits this isn't a bad choice. But while the service was acceptable and the food good the vibe was a bit dull. <br/><br/>Felt like it could have done with a sprucing up. I'd go back but it wouldn't be top of my list.

Decided to pop into the Wild Fig this evening ... and once again they have delivered our Waiter, Adrian was excellent, Decided on the Shank (I am a sucker for Shanks) and the Wife had the Greek Lamb, i am not who often suffers of 'Order Envy" but today it struck ... dont get me wrong the Lamb shank was soooo good but glancing over to my wife's plate and seeing a generous pocket of Phyllo Pastry stuffed with well seasoned cubes of lamb, aubergine and feta. The meal came with tzatziki. <br/><br/>So I was once again impressed by Service and Quality of food.

A good place to release your inner carnivore on a generous helping of meat. The savory food is quite old fashioned, lots of mash and gravy and side helpings of veggies. The desserts, on the other hand, are much more modern and include some really interesting flavor combinations (like fig Eton mess and an interesting take on rice pudding). All dishes are full of cream and rich flavors and everyone went away feeling full but a bit sick after all the richness. I think the menu would be perfectly suited to a cold winter morning by the fire, but it's rather heavy for summer. <br/>The service was great and the ambiance was also really nice. We sat around a round table which made it easy to talk to everyone. Overall a really good night

Visited the The Wild Fig last night and I was pleasantly surprised. The service was superb, the ambiance was nice and the menu offers something for everyone. The wine list is extensive. <br/><br/>To start we had the wild mushroom tart - it's amazing. Definitely recommend it although the portion size is a bit small. For mains I had the lemony pesto pasta which was a great combinations of flavours and a large portion. My friend opted for the crispy duck and was disappointed that it was served on the bone. Apart from that, it was tender and the sauce was good. We had the fondant for dessert which was really nice but the chocolate centre wasn't as runny as it should have been, and it was served with a sorbet which is a bit different.<br/><br/>Overall, it was a great dining experience with the highlight being the mushroom tart. Would love to go back to try the risotto.

We felt like a laid back lunch after another late night and decided to go have lunch under the trees! Such an awesome garden feel and simplistic inside restaurant! Nice glass of Chenin in the hand and I ordered the Lemony Pasta. It was absolutely sublime! Fettuccine with lemon basil pasta, baby spinach, edamame beans, flaked almonds and pecorino shavings. I loved the fresh, tangy yet nutty taste of the dish. Charlie opted for the Rump<br/>Steak topped with cafe de paris butter and some seriously thin deep fried onion rings with a side salad. Im not much of a sweet tooth but Charlie's chocolate fondant was cooked to perfection served with a light lemon sorbet! Well priced and with 3 drinks our bill was just below R400! We will be back for sure! Oh and as an added bonus, they have chameleons breeding in the garden...how special, I haven't seen these little creatures in ages!!

Enjoyed the crispy duck as always - good crunchy skin and tender meat. My son said the chicken pot pie was tasty too. Only 2 gripes...Very slow service today (we waited 45 minutes for the food and were told when it arrived the the pie takes 30 minutes to prepare. It's probably better to tell customers upfront in case they are pressed for time or very hungry.) And the garden needs a bit of TLC - a little untidy with fertiliser bags lying around.
Nicole Brink
We arrived at 13:50 & left at 14:20 with no sign of our waitress, the water we'd ordered or the set & kids' menus we'd requested. VERY bad service.
Jason Katz
Highly recommended! Absolutely nothing to fault this restaurant on - food was excellent, service was outstanding and the setting is great. Hidden gem! Try the Chicken and Leek pie.
Christa Van Eeden
Had an excellent lunch here with friends. The service is good and the food is brilliant. I highly recommend their 'Chicken and Leek Pie'. And I really enjoyed the 'Yellowtail and Calamari' which was one of the chef's specials.

Again Zomatons have let me down...I'm a stranger to the Observatory end of CT. Down for the weekend I wanted to take my student son and his buddies for a decent meal following the recent #fees must fall /great canteen strike of October 15. <br/><br/>The Wild Fig got an impressive 3.9!rating on Zomato. A bland salad was followed by an equally bland lamb shank. An average meal experience.

Went for impromptu dinner last night night - 5 of us at a table. Looked very smart and appeared to be an " occasion" restaurant. Not full on a Saturday evening. Ordered a table Greek salad - portion was small - perhaps suitable for 2 to share. I ordered the mushroom tart - starter- as a main dish. No complaints - excellent choice. Ice cream and chocolate sauce was good - albeit ice cream arrived a bit runny. Service was ok - not very attentive.
Lisa
I love the wild fig. I mean I'd love to love the wild fig but they make it just so damn hard. The service is always good, the setting stunning but the food never lives up to the surroundings. They revamped the menu. I had the mushroom tartlet which was delicious and the veg salad which would have been better if not drowned in dressing. The hake and chips was good but the chips were a little pale. The tuna carpaccio was thick and tasteless. Average food at high prices but excellent service under the trees will bring us back again!
Ross Morrison
A little bit disappointing on the alacarte menu - tuna carpaccio a bit tasteless and the makrel too. The pub lunch menu items were fantastic. Service was great though and I will be back
Catherine
Upfront I need to say I'm completely biased, the Wild Fig was our reception venue when we got married, and they man ade the entire experience such a pkeasure, I'd be hard-pressed to have a bad thing to say about them. The food was superb- I had the most delicious lamb phyllo pastry dish, and everyone I spoke to mentioned how gappy they were with their neals. Karen, the events manager was a pleasure, sorting out all my queries. The waiters and waitresses were well trained and all our meals were served promptly. There's lots more I could say, but really, do yourself a favour and pop in for a meal.
Ryan Ramage
In the middle of nowhere you find this fabulous restaurant. I really liked the atmosphere and will definitely be going there again in the near future. Great that they also work with entertainer vouchers so it helps with the final bill, making it affordable for anyone to try. The Greek Lamb was a great choice next time il try the Risotto.

When rating a restaurant of such perfection and calibre, I am loathe to rate a full 5 as I feel that there must always be room for improvement and this is stated without any cynicism. Having been in the catering industry for so many years, one's last meal / experience served is what is the most impressionable. Its a fickle trade sadly and people move on according to what stays top of mind. Thus maintaining a high standard is a daily challenge. Having said that, The Wild Fig never disappoints. There is never a wild card!Today we were a table of 5, 2 of which were visiting from Australia although fair to say ex Cape Tonians and pretty much familiar with the restaurants as regular visitors. Recommending a restaurant is always dicey but when all are more than satisfied and visibly enjoying themselves, you know that the restaurant has " stepped up to the plate"!Although the Wild Fig has been around for many years its still pretty much a hidden jewel- a little off the beaten track. Its a restaurant that hasn't gone stale. It presents an aura of tranquillity in a setting of spacious airy indoor seating as well as an outside quaint garden alternative.Starting out with an apperative in the bar is the first essential port of call even if only to soak up the rich ambience of supreme wood stretching the full length of the room both as bar counter and rafters. The menu boasts varied choices for all discerning taste buds while not creating confusion of too many overwhelming time wasting choices. Each of us ordered a different dish and nobody was disappointed. We were all extremely happy with our choices.  Fried fish in a beer batter served with chips was crisp fresh and tasty. This was actually ordered off the bar menu and a Greek salad was ordered to accompany it. A leek and chicken pot pie beautifully presented with a pastry lid was described as extremely delicious and something to come back for. The special of the day in terms of fish was roasted yellowtail served with calamari rings and was very much enjoyed. It was fleshy juicy and wholesome. The signature dish was devoured by me - a tender Greek slow roasted lamb presented in a phyllo parcel on a herbed pesto jus - and this sure was tantalising to my taste buds. The fifth person wanted to eat light and thus chose a starter of duck livers which was tasty but just whet the appetite. The slip or disappointment that knocked the rating by .5 was that the vegetables for the table were very unimaginative and almost inappropriate for such a restaurant. It was quite unexpected to find tinned sweet corn as a vegetable presented in a restaurant of this calibre. Roast potatoes under roasted and not by any means crispy was the other vegetable - both unimaginative non colourful starches. I would've expected roasted aubergine peppers and marrows to add colour and creativity as well as to compliment the flavoursome meals. We ended off on the sweetest note possible. I opted for a white chocolate cheese cake of which I am still battling to find the most fitting and deserving adjectives. A chocolate fondant served with hot inner chocolate larva complimented by an orange sorbet was very much enjoyed as well as a peppermint crisp tart presented in a magnificent creative unique bowl. The meal was ended with coffees cappacinos and café lattes. Such beverage choices are never disappointing when the brand used by the restaurant is Lavazzo. The service was supreme. The waitron Gillian, was beautifully spoken with a fine balance of friendliness without being pushy. She was well versed on all the dishes. The food was well synchronised in that we were all served at the same time. This is not always what happens in restaurants and for me that is a major no no.We all left extremely satisfied with the most positive intentions of returning. It is most definitely a restaurant that I would recommend to anybody for any occasion - year end functions, birthday celebrations or just a special meal to enjoy on a night out or a lunch.

Where have I been? The Wild Fig is right around the corner from my house and serves up some truly delicious food. We went on a Sunday and ordered the wild mushroom risotto (perfection on a plate) and the lemony pasta with edamame beans. Such a weird combo in my head, but it worked so beautifully. The service was good and we had a lovely afternoon here. I'll be back.
Debbie Coulson
We had a delicious lunch here- mushroom risotto and an amazing lemon pesto pasta! We sat inside where it was very comfortable and outside was very popular -under a beautiful wild fig tree. The restaurant is in a lovely old cape Dutch building with lots of character. The service was good and food great!
Sophie Mamet
I had a lovely evening there with my friends! <br/>The service was amazing!! <br/>And the wild mushrooms risotto was the best one I had!<br/>But actually everything we order seems be be delicious!<br/>

This gem is tucked away in Observatory but you'll feel miles away from the city when you are there. They had pub specials when we were there - excellent value for money - and overall, an enticing menu that I would like to go back and take advantage of.

Moms' night out at the Protea Hotel & The Wild Fig is conveniently a few steps away through the car park. We went big & shared the Wild Mushroom Tart & Deep Fried Camembert starters which were sood. There were 3 veg options: Lemony Pesto Pasta, Mushroom Risotto & Thai Veg Curry. As a creature of habit I chose the veg curry which wasn't anything to write home about (no tasty extras like tofu or cashews). I've learnt my lesson! We shared a bottle or 2 of the Klein Constantia Sav Blanc which gets a thumbs up. We are proud to say we closed the restaurant at 23h30!

Beautiful setting, superb food and good atmosphere. Broad and varied menu - including the best Risotto I've tasted thus far. This could become my new regular...
Jane Price
Really interesting menu, good quality food, smart environment, attended by friendly service. Had one not so good experience, otherwise would give it a 5,0.

Visited this resturant and the first thing that is surely noticed Is the friendly atmosphere and homely setting. This place is indeed a hidden gem. The service was exceptional with the staff being really helpful and friendly. Had the Springbok Hot Pot which was really outstanding and well presented. The selections of wines was also spectacular. Overall this place is a must for an exceptional dinner night.

I visited these guys on a chilly winters day and fortunately was seated right by the fireplace inside. This place has my kind of menu - predominantly meat based and I chose to opt for the special: the rib eye steak with vine tomatoes, roast potatoes, poached egg and seasonal veg. Paired with a wonderful red wine, this was certainly just what I needed.
Christoff Smit
Always heard about The Wild Fig, but only had a chance to go now. The experience was fantastic. Loved the location, our waitress was very friendly and the food was amazing. Also had the red wine that is made for The Wild Fig by Black Pearl in Paarl. Really loved it. I would def recommend this place to anyone.

The Wild Fig is a real gem and one of those restaurants I often recommend out of town visitors to go because the food has always been good.  Our favourite things on the menu is the Crispy Duck and also the Greek lamb in phyllo pastry.  These have been on the menu for years and for good reason.  And dessert, their chocolate fondant is just DIVINE!
Danielle
The Wild Fig never disappoints. The food is delicious, the ambiance is relaxed and cosy, and the service is always impressive. Give their pub lunches a try, great value for money.
Ryan Harrison
The wild fig is definitely up there for one of my favourite restaurants, we had organised a set menu for a large group of us and they did a fantastic job! The three course meal they set for us was delicious and original. The food came out hot and quickly, considering there were 60 of us I was very impressed! Well done Wild Fig, great success! I will be back to try your a la carte menu.

A wintery girly lunch date at the Wild Fig is a serious must. <br/><br/>The restaurant is warm and cozy with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. We visited them earlier in the week - our table was set right in front of the fireplace which made for a glorious long afternoon of great wine, food and laughs.<br/><br/> The menu has some really great dishes to choose from and we spent a good amount of time umming and aahing about which 2 to order so that we could share (my favourtie – best of both worlds) but in the end, we decided to go solo because we were both SO keen on the Lamb Shank and didn’t want to miss out ;) – best decision we made… the lamb shank was incredible. The meat was so tender it fell of the bone and the red wine jus was rich and moreish… all this was served on a bed of herby mash AND accompanied by an impressive selection of side veggies and roast potatoes. <br/><br/>Our waiter, Ryan was friendly and professional. Wine prices are decent with some good value for money bottles on the menu. <br/><br/>Such a fab girls date!
Mathew West-Russell
The Wild Fig restaurant is a little out the way but is definitely worth making a trip to. There was a wonderful atmosphere and a roaring fire which we got to sit right next to. The food was slightly underwhelming with my warthog pasta being a bit bland and boring. I will be going back to give it another try as I did enjoy the place as a whole
Christian
Ok, so it was dark when we got there, so I can't really comment on the surroundings. One can't help but notice though, that the Valkenburg psychiatric hospital is right next door. The restaurant is on the premises of  a hotel, which is housed in an old Cape-Dutch homestead. The interior of the restaurant is quite spacious, and if your'e lucky, you can get a spot next to the open fireplace, which is quite nice during the winter months. The service was friendly, although quite slow at times, and the wait between drinks, starters and main courses was quite long. The food did not blow me away, but was tasty nevertheless, and the portions are fair, although the prices for the meat options are on the pricier side. My dining party did not have any complaints about the food though. All in all, it would be worth a visit.

Delicious food, friendly staff, great ambience! Cosy atmosphere with beautiful fireplaces make it perfect for those rainy Cape Town winters. Try the Wild mushroom risotto!

I went to the wild fig for a nice Sunday lunch with a good friend. We were happy to find a beautiful setting. We sat in the garden courtyard which was beautiful In The mild winter sunshine. The menu was exciting but unfortunately when the food came through we were highly disappointed. The menu talks a big talk with high prices but the food does not deliver. We hardly touched our main courses. All in all not a successful visit.

Went for a meeting. The waitress was great and could speak about the each dish that was on special for the day. Had an ostrich steak and she recommended medium. The best decision I made was to take her advice. The steak was soft and succulent. Would go again for the knowledgeable wait on and the chef that can cook. R150 for the steak was worth the price
Pieter Nel
Weird location for a restaurant... But I must say, the waiters are really inviting and the tree in the wild fig tree in the courtyard lends a wonderful atmosphere to the restaurant! And they've definitely got the best lamb shank ever!!!!

Attended a 21st birthday party here. It was great venue with great food. Very good service. Never had to look for waiter or never felt the waiter was over eager. Little gem this one.

The wild fig is a beautiful spot. It can accommodate small tables of two up to large groups! Nice food, good service and beautiful location. Will def return!
Claire Du Plessis
Beautiful and sophisticated venue. The food was top notch.
Janine Palser
A more classy place, but the R50 pub lunch special is great for students who want to pretend to be classier than they are - which is just what we did! Delicious steak, egg and chips.
Marco Casati
Great service, wonderful setting. Quiet crowd. Everyone speaks in hushed tones. Food was above average. We went there with the family, and I have to say, as a treat for my dad, it was ideal. Not a party place, not the restaurant. The bar and outside, which I have frequented are more lively.<br/><br/>The dishes, some of them but not all, of which all were ordered from the specials menu, were a little too strange. The Amarula and pepper ostrich steaks were a little sweat, the spingbok potjie on polenta delicious, completely. <br/><br/>I think the wine was also reasonably priced. R150 for a Black Pearl, and R110 for a Backsberg. <br/><br/>As a place for a special quiet treat, I recommend it.<br/><br/>Will go again, but not tomorrow.
Neal Douglass
All the food was underseasoned and the filleted cob had a lot of bones in it. The fire was unattended. The Wild Fig Private Reserve Shiraz and the waiter Astro were the best things about the restaurant.
Anita Shapiro
I spent yesterday in a team workshop at the hotel associated with the Wild Fig. On arrival at the hotel in the morning we were presented with badly photocopied menus from which we were to make our lunch choice for later. I selected a pasta dish. Mid morning, our workshop was interupted by a hotel/restaurant staff member since we had been presented with the "wrong" menu and we had to select different dishes from a now more limited but equally badly photocopied menu. I selected the pork belly on Waldorf Salad. When we broke for lunch at the agreed time we strolled across to the restaurant expecting our pre-ordered food to be promptly served. We waited. We had to enquire and remind staff that we were waiting, as we became anxious that the delay would cut into our afternoon workshop time and delay our finish time. My pork belly was good, but could have been crispier. The fresh apple from the Waldorf Salad was a perfect match and turned what could have been a heavy dish into something lighter. For this reason it was unnecessary for the dish to have stewed appple on top of the crackling as well. Contradictory concepts. As was pre-ordering to save time.

The food at the wild figs is very good. It is reasonably priced and served is a very nice environment. The service is good and it deserves the reputation that it has amongst Cape Town foodies.<br/><br/>I also enjoy the outside are in the summer and sitting out there having a glass of wine with a starter or two.<br/><br/>The bar areas, inside, is nice although they allow smoking which drives me mad, but hey that's just my thing.<br/><br/>In time this place will require a make over as it is getting to that point where it just needs some TLC but for now it is still one of Cape Towns gems.
