Went to Mama Africa with my Mom and Dad... what an awesome place. From the moment you step in you feel so welcomed. The Manager and Staff went above all levels to serve and make your dining experience pleasant. The food was divine. The decor was lovely. The Best Place we have eaten in Cape Town so far. I would recommend Mama Africa to anyone wanting a lovely Authentic African meal. Will defiantly be back!!!
The place is very nice love the music, we waited too long for the food but the wait is worth it coz the food is very very lovely real African food....
I gave this 5 stars for its atmosphere and live music. Cape Town is my final stop on this Southern African overland tour, and I really appreciated seeing authentic African game meet on the menu. Food is not the best you'll ever have, but it's a nice meal out. The prices are reasonable for what you get.
Touristy (including the price!), casual restaurant serving various game meats. Watch the live music while munching on crocodile & ostrich mixed platter for the adventurous wanderers. Young crowds, good to try place if you’re looking for a lively evening in Cape Town. The bobotie, and the lamb with cous cous were hearty & delicious.
The food here is pretty average we had a roast chicken and salad but it’s ok because the ambience is worth it. We loved the live band and the service was great
Went to mamma Africa with two French friends. It's the best place to eat traditional South African food. We had a platter with different meat including ostrich and crocodile, and amazing malva pudding. The best South African food I've ever had. The atmosphere was great with live music and friendly waiter who know the menu and had good advice about what to eat and drink.
Definitely worth your time and money.
A must visit place for non vegetarian foodies traveling to Cape Town. Excellent ambience and great service. Very famous and easy to locate place at the Long Street. Would recommend platter with exotic meats. I simply love this place and looking forward to visit in my next visit to Cape Town
OK, so being a South African makes this restaurant a tad boring for me but its got a lekker vibe and the food is tasty. Take your German friends there, they will dig it.
An absolute must-do for a tourist visiting Cape Town. Sure, it’s a bit touristy, but it’s also GREAT FUN. The band is fabulous (not your average dink-chak dink-chak), a couple of the artists are certainly gifted.
Food was very good, make sure you have the malwa pudding for dessert. Service was a bit slow, but staff were super friendly. All in all, a very nice evening. If I am in Cape Town again, I would go again for sure.
Was in town for the two oceans marathon and told a must... Really busy place need to book - but you can eat at the bar... I had the mixed grill from crocodile to ostrich was super...such a great spot
this place is very African I felt like i am from another continent! The band was very entertaining. I loved it a lot. I had the game kebabs. Those were nice. The kudu especially
Interesting experience... Most accurately described as 'touristy', it still makes for an overall enjoyable night out. The African theme is ruthlessly pursued in all facets - from the food (which features exotic meats like crocodile) to the music (a spirited anthem all night long). Service standard is excellent.
If you've never been, try it. It's fun to slip into the tourist role in your own country. If you are a tourist, you will no doubt find the experience wildly unusual and exciting.
