Review La Petite Tarte - Cape Town Central

Not your traditional coffee shop, but a cute and quaint little place in the city centre. The restaurant offers great options of food and drinks all day everyday. Be it for a quick coffee and pie for breakfast or a feast dinner. I love the tea options available in this place, and the pairing of tea and tart is absolutely a must try! The cafe is carefully decorated with cute porcelains, there's a very chilled vibe and it's perfect for families and friends encounters. What a great place. Experiencing a little bit of Paris in Cape Town was amazing. The service was great. Always ready to assist. Food portions was great. Really filling. This was with a deal. The service was no different from my observations with regards to ppl having deals or no deals. Well done!!!

Very cute cafe with friendly service and good breakfast. Impressive selection of cakes.
Ryan Wilhelm
Tasty breakfast place with a great little outside veranda. Try the pancakes!

Cannot rave highly enough of this place! Went for brunch with my family on my birthday. Service was stellar and food was extremely fresh and well-prepared! The ladies who worked here during my visit were TOP-NOTCH connoisseurs of hospitality! Kudos to the chef!

This turned out to be one of the shockingly best surprised on the trip. It was my 1st african dish. The staff walked me through the different choices and the owner made sure we felt like family. Great menu selections and a wonderful location.

After visiting on the off chance this morning our breakfast was lovely. The flapjacks and bacon were out so good I considered ordering another round! Looks like a really well stocked bar and wines for lunches too.

I go there just about every time I want to meet someone for lunch. The owners are hands-on and always checking to see if you are happy. Their menu varies from day to day with yummy treats and meals The decor is shabby chic and gives a welcoming ambience. La petite Tarte is my favourite place.

A little gem in the bustling neighbourhood of Cape Quarter, Greenpoint. Serving delicious hearty breakfasts with a gourmet teas, coffees and cakes, they also have a selection of hearty meals that reflect the interesting mix of Cape culture. Fantastic food with the best ambience both inside and outside on the patio under the trees. My favorite place to do work and watch the world go by. Best owner and staff that always do their utmost to serve you with a five star experience and make you feel right at home!

Try their almond cake and their lunch special. Excellent food for a work day in that area of Cape Town. Superb service. A bit expensive but it is worth it. Also their selection of teas is more than the average and rather delectable.

Great little space to have a meal.

It's a nice little place in Waterkant, a very hip district of Cape Town. It's great if you want to just get drinks or grab a bite. Their coffee is excellent, and their location is nice as well: sitting outside you can watch people and relax a little from whatever you were doing before.

One of the prettiest locations in a querky, historical side of central Cape Town where little houses dating back to the turn of the century and beyond seem to cling to the side of Signal Hill, basking in the sun. Signal Hill is of course where the noon day gun (cannon) is fired from (quite legally! 😊) every day. Service at this sweet little eatery was personal and kind without being overly attentive. Food was good probably because quality ingredients is key.

Quite possibly the nicest cafe in Cape Town! Fantastic food, beautiful decor, and wonderful staff. It's nice to have the owners so interested in their clients, and lovely to chat with them.

Good morning. My initial sense was to leave a review on your page with a 2 star rating, I am however from the restaurant industry and totally understand how a well planned evening or shift can go terribly wrong- I have now decided to do the rating as my inbox was totally ignored and not even acknowledged. We had booked a week prior for 19:30 6 pax with our wikideals. We were so excited and got to la petite starving. Our friends arrived a few minutes ahead of us at 19:30 and seemingly the booking wasn't recorded and after a few shuffles and moving people around we had a table for 6. We then waited about 35-40min for our drinks order to be taken, we decided to place our meal and dessert orders at the same time given the speed at which things were taking place. It was then brought to our attention that there was only 1 Lambshank left, which is what we had come for. I then opted for very boney ribs and my husband and friends for the steak which were all underdone. We were too hungry at that point to even bother complaining, what we did however complain about was the hair found in my friends husbands food which was then replaced. The food took exceptionally long to come out and people who arrived after us had left before us. We ended up eating our mains at around 10pm. There were seemingly only 2 waiters, a barman and a chef on shift with a restaurant full of people. The staff were really friendly and very apologetic and tried their best to make up for the experience and for this I commend them, it does not however justify poor planning and preparation. I do wish to visit your establishment again and hope that I will never ever experience what we did last night. I also wish to add that when you utilise marketing platforms such as wikideals and the entertainer the aim is to drive feet and not end up driving patrons away with a very poor experience.

Shitty place. I visited the place with my sister a few days ago. Service is horrible. You have to wait for three years to get a piece of cake, which tastes like cardboard. The food is disgusting.

We have found our happy place in Cape Town. Johan you made us feel so special and it's the small things in life that count and somehow you just get that. Thank you for your excellent hospitality, delicious food , best music and trendy vibe. If I had to sum it all up in just one word , that word would be ......WONDERFUL

Johan is just the most amazing host. Had a scrumptious breakfast with our elderly uncle and aunt from JHB who had been in the restaurant trade for years. Highly recommend this truly special place with excellent service and the cosiest atmosphere ever! One of our favourite restaurants. We will be back. Lalle & Hugo

We arrived to a waitress telling us that we can’t get a table if we want to eat! When we asked if we could drink something we were sat down at a dirty table where a previous client left their “medication!” We ordered drinks (a beer, a Dutches, a caramel latte and a BANANA SMOOTHIE! The beer and Dutches arrived after about ten minutes (no ice for the Dutches - I asked and waited another ten minutes before it arrived). Next to arrive was the latte - and I again asked for the smoothie. It arrived twenty minutes after ordering - and when we asked why it was “pink”’in colour the waitress became defensive, grabbed the menu and pointed to it saying it’s a BANANA AND STRAWBERRY SMOOTHIE! Menu clearly says AND/OR!!!! We will NOT be back! Service: 0 Atmosphere:2 Attitude: -5 Len and Johann - seems the place is falling to bits since you guys left!

The best place to be, elegant & cosy, delicious food, best french bistro in CT.
Michael Penford

Very eclectic setting in the wonderful Waterkant. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the Lemon Meringue cake was to die for. Malay curries were authentic and delicious. Juhan is an incredible host.
Frank Schneider
We love this place. Very friendly staff, best cake in town. Come here every year when we stay in CT

A very cosy setting on the fringes of the famous Bo-Kaap with excellent service and really good food. I can recommend the famous chicken pot pie and the Naked Mexican draft beer.
Jessica Armstrong
A real hidden gem! Friendly waitstaff and the best carrot cake you will ever sink your teeth into. They use fresh ingredients to create truly beautiful and delicious food. Lovely cafe feel to the place... yummy quiche. A great place to meet family friends and work colleagues for a cup of tea and a lovely bite.

Petite is the operative work for this restaurant. Portion size is much to be desired. The bobotie was literally the size of two match boxes and the menu has the cheek to say a big enough portion to fill a person. The salad was unappetising and not even sure that a full chicken breast was used in the salad. Left this place still feeling hungry!
Verlynn Johnson
Le Petite tarte was well known for its carrot cake and was eating out top 5 places of the best carrot cake.

My partner and I went there to go have a taste and decide for our self if it's true. For me it was good not the best. It was a bit to dense for my liking and it looked dark for a carrot cake. Also it wasn't that most and was a bit on the dry side. They chia late lacked a bit of honey in there for that extra bit of sweetness.

Overall nice little restaurant menu looks interesting. Will maybe go there again if I’m in the neighborhood.

My friend and I bought a wiki deal that afforded us an opportunity to have a 2 course dinner here. The cafe in itself is very cute giving off little French coffee shop vibes, but not really a setting for dinner.

My friend had the lamb shank with mash for mains and the chocolate brownie for dessert. She loved the shank, it fell off the bone and was flavoured to her liking. I personally thought the basting was too sweet and that the side of veg it was serve was looked like mush. The brownie tasted like a rich chocolate fudge bar. Both of us prefer baked brownies - so not our fave.

I opted for the pork ribs and fries with the cheesecake for dessert. The ribs (or should I say riblets) was served in a pasta bowl on top of the chips with no garnishing. They literally could’ve put it in a basket like Cubana does. It was more pub grub than a restaurant dinner. The basting had far too much cinnamon / nutmeg and also overly sweet. They were out of the cheesecake so I chose the pear and almond tart. If you love almond croissants, this dessert will be your liking. I personally am not a fan of almond paste and there was more almond than pear in that tart so I didn’t eat it.

The food really scores a 2 for me. But bonus points goes to the chef that made an effort to come to each table. He also noticed that I didn’t eat the pear tart and gave me a complimentary brownie.

I will likely not return though.

On the 28th July my fiance and I decided to go and cash in on our Wikideals voucher (supper for 2) after being turned away a week earlier as we came before 6:30 pm this after confirming with the manager if it's fine. Keep in mind we have a 4 month old baby and we came all the way from Strandfontein so we were really excited to indulge in this supper. Upon arriving we were seated and offered drinks by a friendly waiter. We placed our order for our food fiance had lambshank, veg and polenta mash and I had the picanha steak, veg and polenta mash. What was adervitesd and what we received was world's apart. My steak was cut in pieces like you would cut a child's food my fiance's lambshank was fatty and really unappetising the veg was bland flavourless and down right putrid the only nice thing was the mash😑 as for desert chocolate brownie with ice-cream was totally hideous it was so hard I could probably kill someone with it. Luckily the drinks were good as it was the only thing they did not make. For this cosy delightful restaurant with its lovely ambiance the food does not live up to its expectations. To make things worse immediately after leaving La Petite Tarte my fiance got violently ill she vomited got a headache all because of that bad food I will never ever recommend that place...worst experience ever

Been here twice, and all the food everyone has had has been absolutely amazing (including pizza, pasta, burger and bobotie). Location is cosy when it's cold, yet lovely when the weather is better.
Liza Duckitt
The only reason I am even giving a rating of 2 here is because the manager/owners were friendly and the place has Illy coffee. In saying that, we never even got the opportunity to have coffee as we ordered and upon waiting forever to then receive decaf and it to be taken away again quickly because it was not our order (we didnt order decaf), we then decided to just cancel and get up having wasted 30minutes of our lives trying to get a simple americano coffee in a coffee shop.
Leann McCabe
great little spot for breakfast, however the food did take a while to come out. Other than that the food was good and service great, manager attentive to all the tables.

Full marks for this wonderful , eclectic, fun and delicious restaurant. I loved everything about this visit- the staff were gracious and took the time to explain the menu to us, the setting is great and adorably quaint and the food was super! We tried the quiche - mine was the salmon and blue cheese and Mike had the butternut flavor. I preferred his to be honest, finding mine just a little too tangy. We had tea and coffee with a shared slice of almond tart. So amazing I recommend this restaurant to everyone.
Ruthbrain10
Unfortunately we were really disappointed by the quality of food served here. I had their butter chicken and my partner had the chef’s special fried chicken. Frozen chips, dry and unseasoned chicken, tired salad - for roughly R140 per person this is crazy! This was the most uninspired dish I have ever had for R129. The description was enticing, but when the food arrived I thought I was at a hospital cafe. The the service was great and friendly though, nice ambience. Just such a pity about the food!

A cute place, with a nice ambient coffee shop vibe, but the service is slow and you don't feel taken care of.

No one seated us so we scrambled for a table outside. It had been raining so a few tables were wet. No one gave us menus or attended to us for a good 10 minutes. Eventually a very busy waiter gave us menus. We ordered our coffee, and a waiter offered us a table inside as it was chilly outside. We then ordered food so long, as we were starving. Both the food and the coffee took very long. I've never waited so long for coffee in my life. About an hour wait for the food.

My boyfriend ordered an open sandwich, which was around R80 and it was very small. Definitely overpriced. I had a croissant which was nice and big, but still overpriced for breakfast/brunch.

Had to keep trying to get the waiters attention for water, the bill etc.
Yajna Gold
I have been twice, once for coffee and something, second time quiche, neither time was the food amazing but we love the drinks and the atmosphere so much we will still go back for more french vibes!
Stevenalexkarr
Had such a great and warm welcome when we arrived and everything went south from there.
The service was extremely poor. We ordered our drinks and food and it took them more than an hour before they finally brought it. Not checking up if everything was okay.
To top it all off they advertise something on their menu and they don’t deliver it.
A tad expensive and not worth the trouble.

Lovely quirky decor and generally a good vibe.

I had the soufflé omelette with smoked salmon and thoroughly enjoyed it!

But the cakes were a disappointment. They claim to have the best carrot cake but I beg to differ. It was not as flavorful as other carrot cakes I’ve had and there was too little icing for so much cake.

However the flourless chocolate cake was even worse. It didn’t taste like there was any real chocolate flavor.

Neil Smith
Very nice little hidden away gem. The food is delicious and fresh, the staff are great and the overall casual atmosphere makes you feel like you have popped into one of your local spots to grab a coffee.
Daniel Human
Very nice atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff and good food. Simple and tasty. Had a chicken pie that tasted of home. Will visit again. Enormous cake portions! Simply THE BEST carrot walnut cake ever! They should franchise the cake!
Marcio Lopes
Quaint place with admirable decor. I like that they’re open til late and find that it’s a fantastic spot for a late-night piece of cake, hot chocolate, and conversation with friends.

Owner is a racist who verbally abuses his staff. Frequented this place last Dec 2016 and befriended several waitstaff as I have a large heart for Zimbabwean refugees and this is the majority of the employees.
Since last years visit I learned from one employee that the owner is a verbally abusive racist and calls his employees his "Slave Monkey Niggers", this was confirmed by two other employees. Johan, your employees are amazing people who live in poverty, refugees from places that have no resources due to corrupt governments. They are people and deserve to be treated as such, with respect.
PLEASE BOYCOTT THIS RESTAURANT, THE FOOD IS GOOD BUT CALLING PEOPLE SUCH THINGS AS THE RACIST OWNER DOES IS UNACCEPTABLE
Thank you,
Pino Cusolito

If, like me you work in the CBD and surrounds, chances are that the daily commute to the suburbs is about as enjoyable as watching paint drying. Well, let me start by saying that there is an alternative and a tasty one mind you.

Enter the Cape Quarter. There really is so much to do in this quaint part of town whatever your vice. We decided to have a bite to eat at Le Petite Tarte (The small tart). The décor is eclectic with a mixture of French café culture meets the Mad Hatters tea party, I loved in but then again my taste has been described as slightly whimsical at best.

• We started the evening with Jalapeno Chilli poppers, always a sure winner; I couldn’t believe the size of the peppers, goodness! They we juicy and filled with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon, all the essential food groups.

• We decided to get stuck into the mains in order to leave some room for the desserts we’d been told were amazing. I ordered the Lamb Shank with veggies which was a generous portion, nicely basted.

• Then there was the Sriracha basted Picanha also with veggies which looked amazing and received two thumbs up.

• Next was the Pot Roasted Chicken Pie with vegetables and a side salad. This portion was very generous and tasty.

• Last but not least was the Waldorf salad.

We regrouped after dinner soaking in the ambience eager to get stuck into our dessert.

• There was the Flourless Dark Chocolate and Brazil nut cake, lovely, rich and oh so delicious.

• Next was the Baked Cheese Cake with mixed berry coulis

• Lemon Meringue is always a firm favourite and theirs comes very highly rated

• Last and most certainly not least was the Carrot & Walnut Cake. This was exceptional and the portion was massive, easily shared.

This venue, like the food is simple and unpretentious. Uncomplicated, but done well. So, whether you feel like a slab of cake and some good coffee or like grabbing a quick bite before you brave the traffic and make your way home, you won’t be disappointed.

Came here after running a race just before the mad rush started. The seating is tight in this small place with its cute decor but we still managed to find a comfortable seat. Service is on the slow side and waiters sometimes seem really confused but the food was great! We had the farmhouse breakfast, French toast, Eggs Benedict with heaps of Salmon and the kitchen was kind enough to accommodate our vegan friend with Avo Toast. Step up the service and this will be a real gem for regular breakfasts.

I thought a coffee and little decadence was called for on a lazy, chilly afternoon & I heard this was the place to go .. what a gorgeous spot ! I am not sure if the menu as we only had cake. I was joined by a friend who had had the good fortune to finish work a little early and what a treat we had .. our one problem was what to choose and there were a lot of options but finally settled on carrot cake and a slice of chocolate heaven. I was a little disappointed with the carrot cake as it was a little dry & the icing rich rather than a little tart but they were beautifully presented with gorgeous crockery and we were snug outside of the wind and had a brilliant hour or so catching up.

La Petite Tarte is a quaint little ( petite) restaurant situated in the heart of the Cape Quarter / De Waterkant. It has the most superb decor. The food on display looked hugely appealing and appetizing and very fresh. However the taste was very mediocre as was the presentation.
Unfortunately what really dropped the score was the service.
We were not well received. In fact we felt like a botheration to the manager who was busy.
We waited a long time for service.
The waitron wanted to take a half filled glass off the table which my spouse was still busy with.
When he presented the bill he hovered over us waiting for payment. There was no training of social skills or etiquette.
Price wise, we felt that the food was quite expensive.
My mom ordered a smoked salmon quiche which looked like a flat piece of pizza.
Besides the decor, we were terribly disappointed.
We would not rush back in a hurry which is a shame.
Allan Moita
A very attractive little place! You can't pass it bye without wanting to go in. The decor is warm & inviting and so are the staff. The service is a little chaotic and possibly disorganised at times. The food was okay and the coffee was too.

I'm keen to try it for lunch or dinner and then update this.

Vanessa Van Vuuren
It's very hard to write a review for a jewel of a cafe with no imperfections, been here for a friends baby shower and been back twice since then. Simply fantastic food and service. Your teapots and cups made me feel like I was the mad hatter at the party just cult not pour enough tea. Thank you for a great engraved high tea memory.
Chris Rafael
French inspired roadside cafe nestled in between busy streets, it's ideally located for a pop in while one meanders around the district.

I feel the prices are a bit steep for what is offered and maybe if I got a bit more bang for my buck I would have left a bit happier. The service is quick and the staff friendly so no complainants in that department.

La petite Tarte is a beautiful eclectic restaurant with delicious soufle omelettes. I had a bacon and cherry tomato omellete, it was absoluty devine. I will defenitly be coming back to try their lunch/dinner menu. The restaurant truely has a lovely atmosfeer looking out onto the cosy de waterkant streets.
Real_forking_diet
this restaurant is a little gem, located in the colourful cape quarter/de waterkant , the vibe of this french inspired cafe, will make you fall in love , with a few table on the balcony wich makes it the perfect place to chill with a cake , just what i did LOL. but their food menu sounds very appetising as well , i just went after lunch for dessert as i heard they have yummy cakes , being a bit of a carrot cake lover i had to try it , and although my expectations were quite high , i surely wasn’t desapointed !

Disclaimer : The low rating has nothing to do with the food as my girlfriend and I didn't even get the opportunity to try anything.

Terrible staff service - The waiter was dull, the order never arrived, eventually we realized they head forgotten about our order as the chef/cook had decided not to do it and just put it down as done.

Now at this point it's very important for restaurant staff to come up with a recovery plan, sadly they did not. A waitress had to be called by my girlfriend and asked point blank if they forgot the order and was mumbling something when i stepped in and cancelled the order, at this point 50 mins had passed since we ordered.

We proceeded to pay for an overpriced Americano that i had ordered and left. What makes this all worse is during all this, the manager/owner/guy in charge was notified of the issue and simply just watched as we paid and left.

Needless to say i would not recommend this cafe to anyone looking for half descent service.
Tayyiba
The brownies were absolutely horrific, it was extremely hard, too sweet and genuinely an extreme disappointment , then the pavlova was not pleasant as well, but in all it was an extreme disappointment as I was extremely excited to try out this new little café ,maybe my expectations were too high but I was not pleased
Graeme Walker
Very disappointing bruschetta. Topping was delicious, but served on untoasted, soggy baguette. Table next to us also very disappointed as they ordered two of the same :-(
Rui Burguete
Great, great restaurant. Great value for money - the food was great, I had a chicken salad with avocado that was very tasty. My wife had a croque monsieur that was great as well. The place it self was really nice with a lovely balcony. If you have the chance to visit, go for it.

I drive past this place almost everyday and I've been dying to try it out. The opportunity arose when a friend visiting from the U.K. asked to meet for a morning coffee. The establishment is quaint with a buzzing atmosphere. The beverages are as good as they get and the carrot and walnut cake was great. The service was alright but slightly on the slow side. Perhaps slightly on the pricier side but I think it's worth it. Pleasant experience overall.
Richard Warren-Tangney
Disappointing...
Coffee was way too hot and wasn't really a cappuccino; more like an Americano with milk. Had to ask for a glass of water twice.
Our guest's food arrived as separates and had to be sent back to be kept warm. Denis Warren-Tangney had to ask for the preserves to be provided with his croissant. My croque monsieur was dry as the Sahara.
The company was fantastic and it was wonderful to catch-up with a good friend we haven't seen for a while. However we won't be back in a hurry... French patisserie it is not!!!

My wife and I walked around after work on Friday looking for something nice to eat. We stumbled upon this place, which looked really lovely. They said they are dog friendly which is a bonus.

Their prices were quite high for dinner meals, but we thought if it's good then it's worth it. I ordered the steak and my wife ordered seafood salad. Both meals were horrible, overly salted. The seafood salad had seafood pieces which looked like it came out of those frozen seafood packs. The steak was overcooked, very salty and was very bland, like I could have cooked it at home myself.

The decor and interior is stunning, too bad about the food. I won't be going back again.
Tabassum Smiley Aleem
Cute little coffee shop next to Cape Quarter. I had carrot cheesecake which i thought sounded weird but it tasted so great! The walnut cake is good too. The different kinds of cakes makes you want to take a slice of each. Would love to go back and sit outside in the sun.

Discovered this delightful little Parisian style coffee shop in the Cape Quarter. The interior is decorated with books, kitchen tools and paraphernalia, vases filed with fresh flowers, mirrors, mismatching chairs and tables, an explosion of bright colours and cheerful staff to boot. You automatically smile and your spirit is lifted as you walk through the door.

There are an array of decadent baked goods under glass cloches. Those that piqued my interest the most were a huge lemon meringue pie, flourless orange & almond cake, carrot & walnut cake, baked cheesecake and apricot & almond cake.

The savoury bakes also looked amazing; enormous quiche, short crust pastry pies and individual pies.
We went for beer and tapas; pastas bravas, chilli poppers, roast beef bruschetta and chicken wings. They also serve riblets in a Mexican salsa, chicken skewers, fish skewers and a few salads.

There is also a breakfast menu. We'll be back to try that!
BigJoe

Fancy teas and French flair tarts, a charming little place with a mouthful of happiness and a lingering smell of coffee.

A charming sidewalk cafe with dainty teacups and antique tea sets. A place where you can relax on the couch with a cappuccino as you watch the world goes by.

Delightful display of cakes, pastries and tarts. Even a flourless chocolate and almond cake – perfect for something sweet without the guilt. Their cheesecake and pear tarts were delicious and freshly baked.

They also offer something other than sweet treats. From breakfast to croissants, quiches and salad, a place where you can indulge in true French style!
Have been here twice for coffee. Service was great.

The second time I had the cheesecake, which was to die for!

I will definitely be back for my next coffee date!

After supper we decided on drinks at cubana. Cubana was SO FULL so we ended up driving further up the road to go home when we came across this gem. Beautiful interior and exterior decorating. A cute little dinner stop for the summer. What I also loved is that you can see the chef preparing your food right there. There is no kitchen in the back at all. Service is not so great from the male waiters though. Very aloof. The female was much better and more friendly. Tried Aperol for the first time. Very much a summer drink I'm going to have from now on. The flourless dark chocolate cake was extremely heavy and I couldn't finish it, wish i had the lindt brownie instead. Overall not very impressed, maybe the food is what makes this place a great one.

What a lovely cafe! The feel is very Parisian feel to it with a fantastic owner and staff.

They have a small menu with a focus on Banting style desserts.

Lovely tarts and an interesting carrot cheesecake to go with the cream cappuccinos.

Worth a visit!

Literally the best chicken and leek pie EVER. Changed my life, and saw this gorgeous little gem of a restaurant shoot to the top of my top 10 list. Amazing friendly service and cozy, welcoming atmosphere. LOVE.

I had the carrot cake and a cappuccino which I absolutely loved, the entire vibe of the place was enjoyable... The service was great and When my friends and I couldn't decide what to have, our waiter gave us great advice on what to have depending on our taste buds.

I particularly enjoyed the different cups and plates that they had, it was very different in my opinion, and it made me feel like I was part of the Alice in Wonderland tea party.

Would you like to eat at a clean Parisian cafe with fresh decor, friendly and accommodating staff, a welcoming ambience with huge, affordable portions? Anyone who's been to France will know you're being unrealistic and expecting too much. But you'll discover all of this at La Petite Tarte. Tres bien.

The owner/managers have created a thing of beauty here. Their happy energy fills the little cafe, inside and on the stoep, and definitely motivates the guests and waiting staff. They chat and interact with the guests (we thought their accent was European, but they are in fact from Brazil) without being overbearing.

The kitchen is open to view and almost part of the restaurant and therefore preparation is done within sight - although busy, we sensed no tension.

Service was brisk and polite. Greg asked to swap his ham for bacon which was done without fuss. His Croque Monsieur was so, so delicious (our new favourite!) My Eggs Benedict was tasty too with a light Hollandaise sauce.

When ordering tea, a menu was presented with a selection of black and green teas (no extra charge). I opted for the Creamy Orange Rooibos on the manager's recommendation and enjoyed 3 cupfuls from a tiny teapot served in a delicate porcelain cup.

At R220 for two breakfast may not be the cheapest, but if you consider the airfare, this virtual trip to gay Paris was so worth it. We'll be back.

I've walked past La Petit Tarte a few times and have always been enticed by their decor and vibe - the "cafe on the street" has a romance that appeals to me. Finally crossed the threshold when their advertisement for the "best carrot cake" caught my eye yesterday. Sadly this proved to be misleading in my opinion - the cake was nothing special. Coffees were good and the service was prompt and friendly. Based on the decor alone I wouldn't mind trying a meal here sometime, but I won't be rushing back.

What a brilliant, quaint little spot in the heart of Dewaterkant. I had the eggs benedict with avo and grilled tomatoes. The service was attentive and they offer winning cuppucinos. Cannot fault the food or the service. Ambience is particularly good for a cold Winter morning in Cape Town.

Food was nice, but wildly overpriced with miniscule portions. The waiting were very sweet and engaging, but the owner was extremely rude, pretentious and appeared to be snubbing his own customers and was rude to his staff in front of customers.

Lunch at La Petite Tarte was nice but a little disappointing. Very cute place with a lovely vibe that makes you feel like you're in France - lots of potential but unfortunately the food let it down. I had the mushroom and onion pie which came half deconstructed and just a mess on the plate, the pastry was doughey and greasy, and while the mushrooms tasted nice, they were dry and luke warm. My partner had the bacon omelette though which he enjoyed.

Cute little place in the heart of trendy de Waterkant. Prices are in line with the upmarket area...read overpriced! I popped in for breakfast and was impressed with its Parisian theme and cute oddities that sums up the restaurant's charm.

Back to the food. ..had the half portion of the croque poulet, which in hindset was a lovely choice as the portion was adequate and accompanied with a very good salad (as well as costing a very reasonable R42). No iceberg lettuce leaves and the odd tomato here- salad was freshly prepared with rocket, baby spinach and some trendy micro leaves with a very good dressing. The croque poulet was thoroughly enjoyed- smoked chicken covered in a herbed cheese and egg topping grilled to perfection. Washed it down with an excellent Americano. Service was laidback at times but nothing too annoying. Charming manager on duty was extremely efficient and seemed to have good rapport with the rest of the staff. A huge plus in my book.

Tucked away in the De Waterkant village, this quaint little restaurant offers a classy and cute environment. Everything on the menu is meticulously prepared and confectionery freshly baked. I can understand why people will qeue to have a their tea here. Service today was a bit slow, but thankfully another waitress stepped in and all was well in De Waterkant. A bit pricey but definitely worth the outing.

A great spot with quaint details in the decor..great for a weekend brunch! We had the baked omellete which was very filling and the chicken pie which was fresh but could have been more tasty. The chocolate croissant was fresh n delectable. They have a lovely collection of Teas served in delightful cups and kettles. Would love to go there again for the great parisian decor and cheery staff.

A nice little beautiful join with Parisian café vibe in the de Waterkant area. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good food, especially loved there breakfast menu. Must try their take on croque monsieur and baked omelette.

Lovely little coffee shop in the Cape Quarter, greenpoint, love the decor, love the cake. Cake a bit pricey at R42 a slice for lemon meringue!

Friendly waitstaff and very helpful owner. Let me unplug his bar fridge to charge my laptop. Thumbs up!

My only gripe is no wifi 😔 such a pity for an otherwise lovely spot!

This charming little gem, hidden in the Cape Quarter is the perfect little hide out - during your lazy afternoons in Cape Town.

Decor is pretty and pink. None of the chairs are the same - which adds to the restaurants charm.

The menu is pretty basic. Would have liked to see more variety.

I had the carrot and walnut cake on recommendation by other foodies who have eaten here. I was not disappointed. The cake was moist and light. I had a moito which had no mint. This made it very bitter and strong.

I would go back for the cake and would skip the cocktails. After all, it's a coffee shop not a cocktail bar. They have a selection of teas and coffees. And do cake and tea pairing.

I liked that they brought a jug of ice water to the table.

I think the venue/decor is waaaaay better than the food and the service.

I absolutely loved the decor, gorgeous vintage chairs and butter dishes, old large clocks, cute mismatched tea cups etc. I had such high expectations of this cute little venue.

The food for me was average, I think they can really do so much more. My salad had old lettuce leaves and overall it wasn't exciting at all, yet they charging quite a bit for it. The quiches went down well though. I think they could spice up a few things and be more adventurous with their food. I don't think will go back, maybe for a coffee and to enjoy the space.

La petite tarte is well known for its cottage period decor and its location in a cobbled street in de Waterkant. Coffee is excellent and the cakes are a major feature. The carrot cake is a favourite. Service is excellent. Suggest you book if you want a table for lunch. There are a few outside tables for a warm day.

Popped in for lunch a few days ago and was very impressed at this quirky little cafe. The furniture, decor and tableware all combine to create a feeling of stepping into a refined past era.
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and the instant presentation of a jug of water is a lovely touch. I ordered the mushroom, onion & thyme pie which arrived with a decent portion of salad and was beautifully presented. There was more to the salad than a pile of lettuce leaves! I'll definitely be back for a more leisurely experience.

I went for lunch with my family to Le Petite Tarte and was not disappointed! I had the zucchini quiche and salad, which was delicious. I treated myself to a slice of carrot cake which was so moist and their slices were very a generous size. The interior is so cutely decorated which gives a lovely cozy atmosphere and very personal service.

Had a lovely brunch here. It's well decorated, cosy, VERY WARM (great for Winter), and the food was delicious. The crockery is very quaint, and looked forward to seeing what each beverage would be brought in! Service was impeccable, and managers popped in to make sure we were enjoying ourself just the right amount. Definitely worth a mention, and a visit!

Had a lovely lunch here.. It's just like a little French cafe- gorgeous decor and style! I had the quiche and garden salad which was fresh and delicious and reasonably priced. Will definitely go back and try something decadent next time!

Super cute little restaurant and delicious chicken pie! Pastry was cooked perfectly and they aren't shy with their salad either. Service could use some improvement, but besides that, a lovely lunch!

This is a lovely restaurant which is very comfortable and affordable - I had the smoked salmon and avo salad and it was very yummy with a hearty amount of avo and salmon (which is often rare). The people there were very friendly and always keen for a chat. It's a lovely way to spend a lunchtime
