Dropped in today for a light lunch. We had beer battered fish & chips, and kidneys with rosti.,and shared a watermelon and feta salad. All excellent. An interesting and reasonably priced wine list rounded off a well deserved 5 stars.
We had such a great time here. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The staff made us comfortable and offered us drinks while we waited for our table. We got the warthog curry and herbed chicken. Both were excellent with really large portions. The restaurant was buzzing throughout and had a great atmosphere.
My absolute favourite restaurant in Cape Town - never disappoints!
Booking well in advance is essential - this place is popular for good reason.
The dishes are fresh, tasty and indulgent without being that usual Cape Town thing of being too finicky or pretentious. The menu is a novel take on international standards and expresses creativity in the superbly matched flavours in each dish. The desserts are a warm and seductive treat not to be missed!
Wow what an amazing experience, this restaurant is 10/10! The restaurant is on 3 levels, it is small and intimate and well decorated. We were welcomed on our arrival by the manager Richard who landed up being our waiter. He has studied at top international hotel schools and knows his shit! Apparently the owner is one of the chefs and spends a lot of his time meeting suppliers and sourcing the best quality ingredients from the farms around Cape Town. For starters we went all out and ordered one of everything. For me by far the best was the tuna noodle dish, I had to order a second portion it was so good! Also the watermelon and feta salad was insane and it goes well with the tuna starter. For mains I had the deboned chicken legs with coriander, lime and white basmati rice , was the best chicken meal I’ve ever had. For dessert the chocolate brownie 😍 the almond tart was also a winner. The only problem is that they change the menu regularly so these items may not be there for very long but I’m sure anything these guys put together will be amazing. Thanks Black Sheep for an amazing last dinner in Cape Town and will see you again soon!
Thoroughly enjoyed my first time here. I just searched for top rated restaurants I hadn't been to and this one popped up and I was not disappointed. The service was rather slow although this could have been due to the venue being full, other than that they have an interesting menu which allows you to try new things. Food and drinks, excellent! A must try spot.
Very nice vibe and not the usual menu. The menu always changes. The spanakopita was excellent with a chopped olive mix on the side. The hanger steak was very tasty as was the grilled kingklip. Aubergine was great as were the Chocolate brownies, very decadent but excellent.
Amazing service, very warm waiters. We were received very well. Their food wasn’t what I thought it would be, well my order. I had a braised pork shoulder with a whole lot of other ingredients that I pushed off my plate. My palette did not come to play and my pork was not as juicy as I like it and my roast potatoes where burnt. My partners meal on the other hand was great, I had most of his food. He had a kudu in a bed of thyme potato mash. The best mash I have ever tasted and that kudu was so tender and tasty I was in heaven. I’ll definitely go back to try their other dishes as it seems like their menu is experimental and can either be a hit or miss.
I was invited to a dinner at this spot and had a really great experience. The food was delicious and flavorsome, I opted for the roasted Kingklip which was cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and efficient too, I would recommend reservations though as they are quite busy.My overall experience was lovely, I cannot fault this restaurant in anyway.
The Black Sheep Is a restaurant that has the laid back vibe of Kloof street, making it seem deceptively simple with chalk board menus and minimalistic furnishings. It is anything but simple! The wine list is super, we opted for a glass each of the Beaumont Chenin Blanc which was absolutely perfect for sipping throughout our meals. The “bar snacks” are beautifully presented, elegant flavour combinations. We tried the Prego Steak Bruschetta and the Jalapeño Croquettes. Both were amazing. I found that the portions are definitely meant for sharing as they are quite generous in size. The prego steak was lovely and far more delicate than any prego sauce I’ve tried before. The croquettes had a slight bite, I’d highly recommend these! As a main we asked to share the yellowfish curry. The chef was kind enough to serve each half on separate plates. The curry was delicate, not too hot and very balanced in flavours. I particularly liked the addition of brinjal. Our service was good, although my one gripe was that it did take a while to receive the meals and we struggled to get our waiters attention. Other than that -The black sheep is definitely a must!

Wow, just wow. The space is designed in an unpretentious but stylish way, comfortable, too. Service was impeccable - from the person greeting us at the door to the young lady serving us. We did not ever have to look for her, and she also wasn't in our face the entire night. Now for the food - simply sublime. Of course, I can't speak for how it will be every time (the menu changes twice a day), but maaan, did we get lucky! For starters, we shared lamb liver wrapped in bacon set on a bed of rocket with mustard spreads - so delicious. My partner had the rabbit papardelle, which he enjoyed (except he did say they skimped a little on the meat). My order was the Chinese 5 spice roast pork belly with Asian greens - I actually had to sit back after my first bite because I could already foresee being sad when it would be over. It was so simple, but SO so good. Really, one of the best meals I have ever had. To accompany this, we shared the Black Pearl cab sav/shiraz blend, which went down really well. For dessert, we had the coconut sago pudding and the almond torte. We both thoroughly enjoyed them! The flavours and recipes weren't particularly creative or amazing in their presentation, but the food, just the actual food, its textures, flavours, colours - pure music.
