Review Giovanni's - Cape Town Central

Davey Jone's Locker with Jazzy
Love the Amsterdammers, taste like Hertzoggies, but better! The rugby is also on. Somewhat expensive on bakery & cured meats by 30% compared to similar delicatessens. Pleasant atmosphere, friendly busy staff, great selections - a perfect well established local.

You know the best part of feasting late at night just before loadshedding is Giovanni's. This is the best part..... When I went to pay, there were two till ladles giggling with such an effectuous giggle that I had to start laughing with them. I asked what it was about, but they said it was to long to explain. Understanding that I said, "Don't you know that I am being picked up by my friend right now, and he is going to ask why I am crying with laughter?" My reason would reply, "I don't actually know! ". This was the best giggle I had in a long time. Not only is the food excellent and service fantastic, but it is your second home. 10,0000/10 šŸŒŸ ! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND GIOVANNI'S šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼ .....# I still don't know what the giggles were about šŸ¤”šŸ¤£

Always busy, always open, best coffee, eats, best everything! The reason why they ate always busy and packed with happy cusomers. Best take-away chocolate cake

Quick, healthy, and tasty! They have every cuisine and best is you choose your bread, meat, cheese, spread, and veggies and they make your sandwich. So much more than just a delicatessen!

It's my ultimate go-to place for exceptional coffee and delightful breakfast. Despite the constant hustle and bustle, the staff's efficiency stands out. I've come to rely on it for all my meals and desserts, and their coffee, food, and treats are undeniably fantastic. This place is truly a gem in Cape Town, and it never disappoints.
Jonathan Cottrell
This local spot served as my familyā€™s daily go-to grocery store while living in Cape Town. The coffee was great, but itā€™s the local flavor and vibe that really won us over. Itā€™s clearly a staple for many and we think of this place often as synonymous with our South Africa experience.
Shaolin Cafe
I have known this place for 31 years, living 2 meters away and always go there for ready meals and delicious snacks. My favourite was cheese blinzers, now no longer in stock. But the coffee and food. OMG you must go to believe.
Alexander Holzhammer
This is one of my favorite places in CT. The bar section is great to have a coffee and watch everything that is happening here (which is a lot). You can just pick whatever you want from the deli section and they make a sandwich out of it for you. And also the premade food is just really good. I came here on a daily basis when I was staying in Green Point.
Leah Gwin Hoefling
So many locals kept mentioning Giovanniā€™s as a must, so I finally went to stop by the deli to get a to-go sandwich. And WOOWWW the hype is valid and well deserved. I was blown away with the choices, the freshness of everything, and how amazing the sandwich I ordered was. I loved being able to customize it and grab a few sides too.

I've been there three weekends in a row, and I think that somes it up perfectly. Incredible food and ready-made meals. Also, their house blend of coffee is insanely good, and they come in pod versions as well

3. Nice apartment. Tiny and outdated tv's. Seems like these expensive places are underwhelming. Everytime I go to, prestigous, highly costly apartments, it is disappointing. Check in process is ridiculous. Check in staff are not great at all. The guy that brought us to the apartment was good though. Hence the three stars. The cleaning staff could do with training as well. Client interaction is lacking

This is such a great place. In the winter, their fresh soups really hit the spot. They have a full deli of readymade food you can either take with you or eat there. My fave part is I can pick out a type of bread and give it to deli staff and pick out everything I want to put inside my sandwich. They import a lot of stuff here, when they have strawberry poptarts or goldfish crackers I take full advantage. This was the first place I saw sliced brie at. That forever changed me.
Melkbos Meisie
Giovannis is an absolute gem. Only the freshest food is served at a great price point. They carry a wide range of cheeses and deli meats as well as imported pantry staples. Definitely worth a visit. 10/10 would recommend.

Loved loved loved it! Bought a lot of goodies to bring home. To much to choose from!

Cappuccino is fantastic. A Cape Town institution for good coffee and delicious baked goods. My favourite barista is Mehmet. Cappuccino with a chocolate powder on top is certainly a good start to the day. I recommend their salmon and cream cheese bagel with gherkins. Lovely deli with a various imported items from across the world.
Jade Bentel
I love Giovanniā€™s. Fresh food and the best service in town. Always leave with way more than I need but I never regret it! Delicious!
Christiaan Strauss
Small but well stocked Italian Deli. Just be careful you may buy more than you plan and still be happy. Best quality products and friendly assistance

Not much can be said. Giovanni's is a must Sea Point stop over for ALL. Young. Old. Newbies or Repeats. It is noticed that prices are rising way above the norm. The $, Ā£ and ā‚¬ are staggeringly increasing relative to the R , but is this establishment catering to tourists at the expense of locals? Service friendliness at checkout leaves a lot to be desired.

Simply, the best, most authentic slice of Italy / Europe one will find in the Cape. Nothing comes remotely close. Giovanni / Nicolas are utterly focused, passionate, professional and totally in control of an eatery / coffee-shop / people-collector (!) that, frankly, has no equal, at all, in Cape Town. Or, anywhere in S A. Food / coffee / merchandise quality is top-level and meticulously maintained. It would be unthinkable to visit Cape Town without spending an appreciable amount of time at Giovanni's. You have been warned: miss out on Giovanni's to your absolute detriment! :-)
Sarah Polli
The best capuccino I ever had ! You should visit Giovanni's if you are in Cape Town, don't miss it !
Reta Robberts
One of my favourite spits in Cape Town. Great coffee, wonderful ambience, good food!
Leoni Starker-Fox
Just the cherry on the cake to go there for morning coffee and a sandwich created by self ! A highlight every time we go to Cape Town !!
Lucas Korver
What a cosy & inviting venue to experience a very cosmopolitan clientele whilst enjoying the best cappuccino in town & continental cuisine!
Richard Matthews
What a treat to get a perfect San Daniele and Provolone panino in SA!
Estela Carvalho
Delicious Italian style food to take away. Very happy for not being able to buy wine after 6 p.m. as attendants explained that it was due to "Cape Town law". I wish other cities around the world did the same to counter traffic violence.
Mandrezel Oosthuizen
Love love love die plek.. soveel lekker goedjies om van te kies
Zoe Tyropolis
What a lovely deli! Absolutely my favorite. Nothing I would change. Giovannis has been one of my families favorites for many years and whenever we are in Cape Town we visit multiple times without a shadow of a doubt. Hundies recommend.
Yrina Pustella
I went there because it catched my attention, when i got inside I was very excited since they had a bunch of fresh products and also Italian goodies, we picked bagels and also bagels to eat there with coffee.. We order one with cheese and a honey type of ham and also one with salami and cheese.. Didn't realize tho that many people first says how many slices they want.. Since you pay afterwards :D and we just got it and we thought omg they're not shy with the toppings but afterwards we realized okay that make sense.. Overall, nice place, small to eat in there but creates a different way to eat since you can sit and see people buying their stuff and enjoying a quick snack and coffee.. I recomend. Ahh yes! The bagels were nice.. A little dry but I guess with all those toppings it was alright.. Btw the ham and salami were super fresh and tasty.

My recommendation to this restaurant was ... ā€œ this will be better than your mamaā€™s foodā€ ... he was definitely right!! I wonā€™t ever go to Cape Town and not eat here!!! This was so sooo good!

Casual and easy great choices swift service all very friendly. I enjoyed a croissant perfectly baked with some honey glazed gammon. Hit the spot.
Well, what to say about Giovanniā€™s, simply the best food corner in CPT by far. This small gastronomic delight is very well located in Green Point and allows you to eat in or take Away. The variety of their products is incredible as well as the cooked dishes. Be ready to comeback :-)
Nix006
Great Cappuccino and the freshest croissants. You can hear how fresh they are when someone next to you takes a bite!!! Order them from the counter rather than in the deli. The deli is amazing, lots of imported and local delicacies to choose from. Sandwiches are fresh and a great place to pop in if you on the move and need to get something quick but at the same time quality.
Adam Hunter
Giovanniā€™s, a popular green point institution, has been around for decades and is still a popular choice among locals for a number of reasons. The relaxed low-key restaurant serves quality food and great coffee, accompanied with freshly baked goods such as croissants and bread (extremely hard to ignore when itā€™s hot out the oven and served in baskets right next to the food deli). The Trendy spot on green point main road is where you will find a buzz any time of the day. The selection of food on offer at the deli is great for a quick bite or takeaway for midweek meals or dinner parties. Giovanniā€™s also has wide range of international foods on offer, wine and fresh flowers, making it a perfect One stop shop. The service is always friendly and youā€™ll never be disappointed šŸ‘šŸ»

Gios food is semi famous among local Capetonians from their pesto dishes to their perfectly cooked chicken perfect for lunch or dinner (or a healthy snack) and if you're feeling not so healthy their cheese cake is the best and creamiest in the world!

Great coffee.
Nice baked goods available.
Good deli section.
Great ambience.
Recommended for a coffee & croissant to start your day.
Can be a bit chaotic & difficult to get service at times.
Sam Corcoran
A buffet type deli where you choose what you want from a selection of options and pay by weight. I love this place and all the food Iā€™ve tried has all been brilliant. It all has a really authentic and home cooked taste. My favourite is the beetroot quinoa and veg masala. The only thing is the seating situation isnā€™t very comfortable and sometimes you have to stand it sit on a railing.
Colleen Kalimba
A friend brought me here to build a sandwich, and I was pleasantly surprised. The ingredients were all fresh and there was such a wide variety of amazing things that making a choice was difficult (in a very good way). The bread was amazing and my sandwich was phenomenal.
Atara Jaffe
Really good Takeaway food and sandwiches that are pretty amazing. The only downside is that it's always so crowded it's hard to move around in there. A lot of food from overseas and ready-made food that is just wonderful and good for entertaining if you are willing to spend a little extra
Simone Izzard
Giovannis is one of my favourite spots to grab a delicious sandwich and do some people watching. The selection of both imported and ready made fare is far superior to any other place I've come across in Cape Town and the ladies behind the counter are knowledgeable and friendly. This place is always buzzing and doesn't take reservations, so be prepared to squeeze in along one of the counters or at one of the cocktail tables and enjoy. It doesn't get much better even in Italy.
Winston Ck
It's an Italian inspired deli and yes it has an absolutely fantastic range of delicious cold meats and cheeses to choose from. Not to mention the freshly baked artisan breads which compliment things like their liver pate, humus and taramasalata dangerously well. It's very popular to design your own sandwich - pick and choose as you will from all the wonderful ingredients.
But in my opinion, Giovanni's recipe for success is the people who have worked there for many years! After a few visits, you'll know exactly what I mean!
Nicola Cape Town
I absolutely adore Giovanni's, it's my go to deli at least twice a week! My issues with it are not food based at all. The seating has always been an issue for my friends and I and the payment station is awkwardly located directly in a tiny where servers and staff need to walk through constantly. However, the food is really excellent and the setting is great šŸ‘ŒšŸ½
Natalie Lazaris
Nothing beats giovannis. The coffee is incredible and so is their sandwiches. A beautiful take on an itallian deli...lots of goodies available for take away. A must when you are in the area. Understand that this place is super busy all the time, so be prepared for crowds.
Samantha Taylor
Love this gem in the heart of green point! They stock the most divine products from Italy, I love their new product - Bellini! The cafe is also great, they have tons of lovely foods to choose from which you can add to a plate and weigh it up. Psss: Coffee Lovers? Best coffee in town! Will definetly go again
Tanweer
Always know I can rely on Giovanni's for an authentic, homemade meal. They have a wide selection of salads, breads and meats to suit everyone's needs. Tonight I tried a variety of the vegetarian salads and it was all so delicious! I especially enjoyed the pesto pasta, roasted butternut quinoa and Lebanese brinjal salad. The food is well flavoured and reasonably priced. One of my favourite places in Greenpoint!
Ilan Ben-David
There's a reason this place is always full! Great variety of food and always tasty! A bit on the pricey side, but worth it for the meal overall and the atmosphere!
Carli Gaddin
Out of this world amazing every time I have been here! Shared a salmon bagel and caprese bagel with my boyfriend. The simple joys of a slice of buffalo mozzarella, fresh pesto and the freshest tomatoes are pure gifts from GD. Anyone who has been to Giovanni's will say pretty much the same thing. Obviously one does the walk around the store to see what goodies they have and I came across the most heavenly way to parch my thirst in the Cape Town heat... fresh watermelon juice. Everything I had imagine and dreamt it would taste like, I did... my one regret... packing clothes I should have left in the 021 and not taking home a crate of watermelon juice!!!!
Simone Hasselbach
Great selection of products with such fantastic breads, cold meats and salads. I got 'stuck' in there as i couldnt decide what to buy. There's so much variety. Couple of good quality cheeses as well. Castello is my latest favourite brand and they stock it! Will be back again for sure.
Gabriella
Popped in just for a coffee on a cold late afternoon (other than early mornings, think this is the best time to go) & ended up having two more each as u feel so welcomed by the baristas & the homey feel makes u want to stay there for longer than one should šŸ˜Š
Definitely want to stop by again for a bite to eat as the food looks delicious with so many options to choose from as well - you spoiled for choice!
If you find yourself in the area craving a good cup of coffee, I would recommend popping in - if you can find a spot as it does tend to get quite packed due to its popularity (which you will discover why when you go visit).
Jamie Roller
Giovanni's has the best selection of imported treats, pastas and cheeses plus a counter with delicious prepared food - everything from sweet and sour plum chicken to filet with mushroom sauce to steamed broccoli to spaghetti and meatballs. You can eat at their little bar area there or take it home. It's not cheap but it's so worth it. Honestly, the best convenience store in Cape Town.
Mton27
Always 5/5 experience. From an Italian background, this place makes me feel like I'm having nothing short of a home cooked meal. Imports are also great.
Tracy Poulter
Amazing!!! I absolutely love this place, another perfect stop when you are not quite sure what to have for lunch and the fast food franchises are not what the taste buds are craving!

This place is fantastic, choices of cold meats, warm meats, breads, salads, dips and everything Looks so good it makes it difficult to choose. So I chose Peri Peri chicken schnitzel, some Greek Bean Stew(which was my favorite and frikken delicious) some Capri salad and roasted zucchini, I chose to take smaller helpings so I could taste more and yum yum yum!

The service is great, prices are a liiiitle on the expensive side but pretty much what you'd pay at most Deli's.

I would definitely recommend this place and they will most definitely be seeing more of me...

Great place,
Great service,
Great food
:)
Teffie Polkinghorne
Delicious Deli lunch! Can't go wrong with any of their offerings. Highly recommend the artichoke and Parmesan dip. Coffee is also fantastic! Huge range of imported goods on sale apart from all the cold meats, cheeses, salads, breads etc etc. All round a great place.

Coming home from a trip or long day at work? Cooking is probably the last thing on your mind. Giovanniā€™s is the Italian nonna you never had. This home-style Italian delicatessen serves soul warming tasty food and if you donā€™t go crazy on meat or fish itā€™s also affordable. I like that one can decide how much of something they want and you can also combine it with whatever you feel like. You can decide on eating there on one of the barstools or take your meal somewhere else. With summer coming you can have a gourmet meal on the beach! I like the salmon, chicken schnitzel, plum chicken, crispy fresh green beans and sweet potato mash.

Well, where do I begin?!? The tasty meats, the fresh breads, the AMAZING veggies & cooked meals. The best Spicy chicken mayo you will ever come across, wow! Gio's has never disappointed me.
Definitely a weekly pop in for us!
Jack Gorton
Not much to say that hasn't been said, amazing deli, fantastic breads and pastries. Cheese, meat, salads all taste fantastic. Great imported goods and sweets
Shauny D Foodie
Really awsome place. Love the vibe, the authenticity. Great place to be if you like good foods with a wide variety of flavours. Love their meatballs, wow , the amalgamation of the flavours are just put together so well.
Paula Zolezzi
Always unfailingly good. Often get a little take away food, something different, when I feel too lazy to cook. Love their bread, often buy it. Owners and staff very friendly, prompt and behind the coffee counter often amusing. Good coffee, fresh pastries. It's become a beacon for any European bread, coffee life lover. Very diverse, cosmopolitan customers.
Tiffany Lara Elliott
I love the coffee served here! The baristas are also so friendly, and always willing to have a quick chat.

The deli inside has really great food, with their bakery selection being one of my favourites. However, they are a bit pricey in this regard.
Glenn Muller
I cannot rave enough about Giovanni's- from a deli that is probably comparable to Trupps in Hyde Park in terms of stocking food that you unlikely to find anywhere else, to amazing coffee and service to match. This place is an institution in Cape Town and is a firm favourite with thd locals. Giovanni's is foodie heaven!

I popped in after a run and opted for a meal of peri-peri schnitzel, Italian meatball, and some of the tastiest veg around. The curried cauliflower, peas with zuccini, green beans with fennel and sauteed cabbage was delish. The plate only cost me R65 which in my view was good value for money. Their coffees are amazing and the cafe latte i had was no exception. Long live Giovanni's.
Megan Bellinger
There is something so appealing about Giovanni's, the cool-factor without even trying, and the continental feel you get while sipping on your americano with croissant. Speaking of, they make a one good croissant! Especially the almond one. They also serve some really good Amsterdammers, a lovely coconut treat.
All are really reasonably priced too!Ā
Their seating is limited, and by limited i mean limited. you're pretty much guaranteed to stand - but hay-ho, it goes with the vibe :)
Do yourself a favour and browse through the deli too, they have some great fresh produce, meats and cheeses.
Hend Amer
I have been a customer of Giovanni's for sometime now. It the perfect place you go to for shopping for imported food. They have a variety that does not exist in your common supermarket.
The place is also known for its good coffee and its vibes. They also offer a variety of cooked meals with adequate quality. Not my first choice but it did save me several times when I didn't cook and needed to put food on the table. An interesting place worthy of checking if u haven't been there
JayRo
Really great vibe. Was craving scrambled eggs, which they unfortunately don't do, so didn't stay for breakfast, but really enjoyed the coffee! Great selection of fresh bread!
Nazneen Ahmed
Popped by for a quick bite after a promenade run...

Food was really just ok, a bit on the cold side when it got to me. Service also not so great, I felt like the lady literally threw my plate in front of me.

Seating area not too great either, cramped and small. Not too impressed overall, pretty average in my books.
Magically Nick
Go have lunch at the folks who love food as much as you do. The small cosy shop is filled to the brim with a wide variety of delicious food of the finest quality. I love the fresh bagels, kitka and the ample variety of fillings. The coffee is sublime- be like a real larny and have a jog on the promenade and have a breakfast at Giovanni's!
Bame Modungwa
First visit to Giovanni's. Amazing Italian with a home-made feel. Had the penne arrabiata, ready made and a nice change from the usual frozen store meal, and added some sirracha chicken with it from the fresh deli counter. Great meal all round.
Lindie White
Looking for a typically European deli to sit on the sidewalk while having your sandwich and strong coffee? Find it at Giovanni's. Always busy. Always vibey. Often you have to wait to place your order (not that either of the Italian brothers or any of their staff are slow, it's just that packed). And don't be fooled by the straight-faced businesslike almost-curt service at the coffee counter - this is serious business, capisce? And when they meet an old friend, the Mediterranean warmth oozes in the fist pinches or even hugs. Italian style. Sauve, non-chalant and confident. Just what you'd expect from a famous local landmark. This in sharp contrast to the very friendly, helpful servers at the deli counter. Order your food by weight or select prepacked meals in sexy containers. Belissimo!
Rebecca Francis-Pope
A great little deli that always seems to be busy (a good sign in my book!). We picked out our rolls from a variety of options, and were then confronted with dozens of different types of cheeses and meats to select for our sandwiches. Quite overwhelming if you don't know your cheeses, but the result was a delicious roll LOADED with cheese, ham, avo, tomato, lettuce and mayo. Good place to stop if you're hungry and on the move
Celeste Tsang
Lovely deli. You can get take-away or sit down and eat. Always busy with a nice vibe. Big selection of tasty home-made delights from quinoa to lasagna to prawns. You can choose from the huge selection and food is based on weight. The little deli also sells imported goodies such as pop tarts and jelly belly jelly beans.

The watermelon juice is a must try in summer (after a long day at the beach). The Uber ice teas are lovely- you must try the rooibos honey and lemon flavour. If you are a fan of soup- I highly recommend their vegetable minestrone or chicken minestrone soup in a tub.

Such a delightful little place!!
Talia Lee Cohen
Yum yum yum!!! Quick delicious and healthy food! Perfect takeaway, where you can mix anything: quinoa salads, freshly roasted peppers, spoonfuls of hummus, slices of meats, buckets of olives, crumbed chicken, teriyaki salmon... Make your own sandwiches or grab a pasta. Sit and eat. Warm it up and have it cold.

Note: the inside is a mini grocery shop - imported treats and beverages, artisan chocolate, selection of cheeses, fresh fruits, numerous jars and sauces, anddddddd HALVA if you can spot it hidden near the bar šŸ˜šŸ˜

Word of the owners: very friendly and welcoming, so it's no wonder that it is forever populated with it's regulars šŸ˜Š
FoodieC
I absolutely love this little Italian gem! I've stopped by numerous times for a quick espresso and some Italian dessert. It's always a pleasure talking to the coffee bar staff and managers. The atmosphere is typically Italian Caffetteria, something I've missed a lot after living in Italy for a while! And the deli itself offers a variety of authentic Italian meals and ingredients. It's always fresh and of a high standard. Because this is mostly imported products, they are a bit more expensive, but the quality is much better than local products such as local coffees, pasta or cured meats.
Sumendra Chetty
Love Giovanni's!!! This is a must see place in Greenpoint. There's so much on offer its hard to zone into what to purchase! The large selection of imported goodies is a treat for anyone looking for something that's hard to find usually. I love their croissants- always fresh and always delicious. The build your own meal vibe is also fantastic and fun. Just amazing.
Amber Razdi-Rafael Convery
Love Giovanni's but mainly for the shop as they have all the yummy food from the UK which is where I come from. Never had anything bad to eat there šŸ™‚
Deepika Mangla
We went there for a light dinner. The salads were tasty but drenched in oil. This made us doubt if these were even freshly prepared. The coffee was okayish, a bit too strong for my liking. The concept of the place is good, you pick whatever salad you like and pay for the weight of the salad you picked. Name tags in front of the dishes could have helped more. The place is nice with choices in dips, cheese, breads and wines.
Ryan Goodman
A Green Point institution. Top notch coffees, awesome deli salads, sandwiches and fresh-cooked meals. A little pricey but great for lunch or take-out dinner on the run.
Jessica Stromin
Giovanni's is food heaven. They have the most delicious deli foods - think exotic cheeses and meats, sundried tomatoes, different pĆ¢tĆ©s and dips (their hummus is yum!) and all sorts of weird and wonderful delicacies, as well as their ready-to-go hot food which is perfect for when you can't be bothered to cook. My favourite thing is to make up a bagel with everything on it and sip a coffee on the barstools outside pretending I'm on Italy šŸ‡®šŸ‡¹
Irishman
This cafe/deli is an excellent stop for delicious sandwiches, bread, freshly prepared meals, fresh juices, coffee, and it has an international selection of sauces, meats, cheeses, wines... you name it! The service is also very good. Highly recommended.
Nic Hern
Always an absolute treat! The location and the setting make a very trendy hang out, a great place to grab a quick roll and coffee! The coffee is to die for and the food is always super tastyšŸ™ŒšŸ» I highly recommend this place to anyone in and around Cape TownšŸ‘šŸ»
Jacolouisg
Tried, trusted! When mom is far away and the desire to cook is lacking, Gio comes to the rescue. And let's not forget the Amsterdammers and small baguettes, the best!
Pierre Meert
Everything is good and perfect at Giovanni's: the service, the people, the coffee the smiles... and the food...Coming from Europe I know ...so please kept like this....for ever;-) do not change the concept ! Thanks CIAO
Bobby Louw
A definite must if you're in the green point area. Friendly service and a great variety in the buffet. The place has got a great Italian feel to it. The coffee is quite outstanding. All in all good food. If I could buy a permanent seat there I would!
Maximillian Bajkay
Best coffee shop in Green Point by miles along with some damn decent quality 'brioche' and panini's. What also adds to s great atmosphere is that you basically eat and drink on the pavement but with an Italian 'bar' experience.
Gabriela Limberis
Yum, yum, yum! I absolutely love Giovanni's, it's what I look forward to most (food-wise) when coming to Cape Town and I would definitely say it is one of the best deli's around.
From the daily meals, freshly baked breads and deli meats to the coffee and juices - Giovanni's has something delicious for everyone!
Shez
Best sandwich/deli place. Always has the freshest of ingredients and breads. My fave is the Norwegian smoked salmon on a baguette. May be a bit slightly over priced also especially with the huge variety of imported goods within the deli, but totally worth it.
Kyle Hoffmann-Barrett
Great deli with with a diverse selection of delicious offerings. We go all the time and I have never been disappointed. If you are hankering for some really tasty food and great coffee with a great deli vibe, then this is the place to go.
Bronwills
Giovanni's is a family-run deli and market in Greenpoint and is a favourite amongst locals and tourists alike. It is a very relaxed deli that offers everything under the sun, al homemade and all really delicious, fresh and tasty. I love, love, love this place. It has to be one of my favourite spots for a quick, light, healthy lunch that is just so darn tasty! Pick and choose from their large selection of foods and away you go!
Allegra Whitehouse
Giovanni's is one of the best Deli's I've ever found in Cape Town! They have a huge selection of just about all things delicious, but for me the winner is their selection of breads and pastries as well as the cheeses. You will find things at Giovanni's that you can't get anywhere else. Along with this it is always buzzing and full of people enjoying themselves.

Along with this they make great coffee and if you are feeling decadent you should try one of their delicious, buttery chocolate Croissants!

They also stock a large selection of imported food items, if there is something specialist you are looking for this is probably the place to find it.
Candistripe
One of the best deli's i have been to. It's food is like home away from home except that it's quick, on the go but you are satisfied.
I had the seared tuna and red beetroot quinoa. Oh my fat cat! Where have I been my whole life??
Gabi Esposito
@i feel like I'm back in Italy when I come here. Not only do they have the best coffee and food in Cape Town, but they create the ideal Mediterranean atmosphere. It's an institution in Cape Town, a home away from home and a thriving business that is loved by many. Come on, go there now.
William Hillock
Always a Capetonians go-to take away food - I find myself here more often than I'm proud to say.

This place is always buzzing with people and everyone is extremely friendly and happy - both staff and customers alike. The only downside is that it's not really a sit-down type of place, except for perhaps a coffee.

If you're looking for a quick, delicious and healthy study snack - go to Gios.
If you're looking for a massive dinner for a crowd of people - go to Gios.
I think you see where I'm going with this!

Three pepper chicken, schnitzels and the lasagne are my top choices but you can't really go wrong with anything. And since you're there, grab a red pepper dip on the way out.

You're welcome.
Mike Varney
Love this spot! Great for a meeting, quick lunch or weekend drop by. The extensive and authentic deli is right up there with the best and although a bit on the pricey side is well worth the convenience and complete taste sensation
Trynity
Giovanni's has never disappointed! The most delicious food, so affordable, the best quality! The most friendly staff, huge range of imports, cured meat to die for. There's nothing Giovanni's does wrong.
James Beall
Giovanni's is too lekker. Location is excellent in terms of convenience and atmosphere. The food is as appealing as it is delicious. The layout and ordering system is charmingly atypical to what we are used to in South Africa but it works really well and the coffee is great too. hmmm. changing my vote to a 5.
NickNock
This is why Italian food is so popular. There are still people around the world who are able to replicate what a small "alimentari" or "enoteca" is like in Italy. Although Giovanni's has been there for many years, it is the simplicity with which they offer their produce which makes it so popular. Of Course the quality of their offering is very good (as its original and not cured in someones garage) but its also the concept which i think is exactly what South Africa needs. Thank you for making me feel like I was back in Italy. I wish you a hundred more years of success and I look forward to coming back to visit you.
Welmie Loves Food & Wine
This place is always buzzing and there is a good reason for it! They are amazing- wide selection of food and snacks for all. Anyone can go in and find something they like. You can also sit outside and enjoy a cup coffee and a quick bite.

With the fresh air that cape town has to offer and a little cafe and shop right by the sidewalk this is the place to have moring coffee. With fresh pastries you can enjoy your morning paper in style. Amazing Portuguese tarts best I've ever tasted. Service is very good but space is limited in the little coffee bar section. Amazing view, coffee and pastries.

I love this place. Partly because it has every foreign sweet you've always dreamed of getting hold of, and partly because there's a great vibe for a coffee on the street. They also have really good ready-made food, the spinach and butternut dishes are amazing.
Artisan Eatware
A regular venue for us when in Cape Town, this is a wonderful deli come coffee bar where you can get anything from an espresso plus the newspaper to a tasty mediterranean-style pre-cooked dish (sit down or takeaway), to a gift of unusual chocolate or other titbit imported from wherever, even the best fresh flowers right at the door. A vibey place for a quick break or stopover, unfailing street life appeal, not to be missed in the summer season! Can get a bit cramped though, proof of its popularity.

Look no further than this lovely little shop for all kinds of delights! Wonderful freshly cooked foods, cured meats, cheese and bread. It's a tiny little treasure trove. The staff have a wonderful energy and the service is outstanding. To top it all there's a flower seller right outside with beautiful flowers. Yum yum yum.

Gios does not even needs a review. Best deli in Cape Town. Their reputation precedes them. Imported goods and Italian flair. They have it all from excellent coffee to delicious home cooked meals.
Phoebe Kondylis
One of my all time favourite spots in Cape Town. This place is just a gold mine. Everything from their coffee to their lunch buffet to their imported goods are just heavenly. Very full in summer but worth the wait.

What is there not to love about Giovanni's? I mean, delicious deli counter, great coffee, a whole assortment of imported foodie goodies to have a wander through and of course their absolutely amazing choose your own meal counter. You can't go wrong with Giovanni's - ever, it will always have your back.

This is a Capetonian institution but until recently I had never been. (*Hides in shame*). Nevertheless, I have now eaten lunch at Giovanni's and can safely say that I understand what the hype is all about. The food is great: really fresh, flavourful and there are loads of veggie options. I had some kind of beetroot quinoa dish and it was amazeballs. The mushroom risotto is also out of this world. I love that it's a "weigh and pay" kinda vibe, the staff are really friendly and efficient and it's a good spot to watch Green Point life go by (as well as pick up a few imported treats on the way out.)

Do yourself a favour, and come here. This has to be one of my favourite places in Cape Town. It's essentially a deli. It's a great place to find international products you won't really find elsewhere (e.g. Cherry coke, fancy Italian products etc). They also have an awesome take away section - with pre-made salads, pastas and so on at reasonable prices. I personally come for the deli section where you can make your own sandwich. And be forewarned, this isn't your average sandwich - with the freshest and best quality ingredients around, it's an experience :P! I order the same thing eeeeevery time (ciabatta with Parma ham, rocket, tomato, olive oil and emmenthal - TRY IT) and I'm never disappointed. I love their outside section - I often sit there when there is space, and with a little tv above the bar, it's a nice to watch the tennis for example. :)

Lots of character but a bit confusing for a first timer. Seating is outside and inside but you need to go inside to order at the counter and then find a seat inside or outside. Your plate is then brought to you with a number. Drinks are ordered at the bar. When you finish you pay at the bar. Food is excellent and great value for money.

Do you own Italian sunglasses and have a hairy back?
do you ride a scooter?
(not a chinese one)
Do you have a bunch of friends with hairy backs and scooters and italian sunglasses?

Do you have a place to meet?
you do now.

awesome deli. Ā a pavement culture that makes you feel like you never left the continent and possibly a clientele that has a criminal history and are awaiting extradition awaits... but in a good way.

i go here to eat ham and drink coffee and occasionally buy a product that has no instructions or ingredients in english on it.

lovely place.

I literally can't keep myself away from this place. Amazing coffee and the greatest bagels in cape town! the selection of meats and cheeses is mind blowing and ive never had a bad meal here. Hands down my favourite breakfast place, even though there is no space to sit ever I get take aways and go to the beach to enjoy it!!!

This place ticks all the boxes for a perfect coffee on the go - deli delicious - after work yummy take away - fresh bakery - awesome local fresh produce - charming stop. Giovanni's has become one of the iconic local hot spots of cape town and is definitely worth a visit! I'm sold by the time I reach the door with beautiful Lillie's and the aroma of fresh beans... Never mind the stunning array of dinner solutions on offer and the grab-me-I-look-delicious rows of produce. The vibe is bustling Italy and the place is always packed. Run in, relax with a coffee and quick chat and leave with far more than you intended. The owners passion filters throughout... I love their chicken, fresh veggies, cheesecake, fresh breads, yoghurt, freshly squeezed juices and ginger! (Don't forget the flowers)

Good food all day til late. Great choose your own dishes and delicatessen. Mainly Italian in style with delicious coffee. Lots of the cool kids hang out here in summer
Bruno Miguel De Jesus
This has got to be one of the best spots in Cape Town for your first early morning coffee, sandwich and a croissant. They also have a wide range of imported food goods.

Local hang out when you grow tired of whatever new place has opened up, bike friendly so good place to grab a coffee before or after your ride

It's been around for years, Giovanni's is the place I remember my parents dragging me to for their morning coffee. Everything is divine and so Italian. From the flawless flowers as you walk in to the smell of brewing coffee, everything is perfect. There's no reason not to go back. Also, if it's busy, grab a few bits and go across the road to Green Point park, it's makes for the prefect picnic.

This place is my home kitchen. Or at least what I would love to find every time I walk in my kitchen. I love their deli section where you can choose ready made meals that taste like your Italian mama or uncle Giuseppe made it (play with me here...). If you want fancy, there's Norwegian salmon, seared tuna, need fillet (to die for!!!). If you want healthy and vegan friendly have quinoa with beetroot or the kale and cauliflower mash, Greek style potatoes. For winter months have the mushroom risotto. Or the chicken livers with rice. The lasagna is very hearty and rich, although I don't have it often because I prefer the one I make.
I also love the gourmet ingredients you can find there if you want to cook your own meal. There's saffron, arborio rice, truffle oil, aged balsamic vinegar, chestnut paste, tahini paste, cheese from France, Netherlands. Duck terrines and foie gras. Squid ink.
Best charcuterie selection! Great coffee, fantastic tea selection.
They sell these delicious pana forte (I forgot what it's called) - these dry cakes with fruits and raisins and in a beautiful gift box.
Lovely mints, sweets and pastilles.
Raw chocolate.
Absolute gem of a place. I go there 4-5 times in a week!!!

Simply the best cappuccino I've had in Cape Town hands down. But that's not all that Giovanni's is good for.

Their deli is fantastic for a take away meal and if you have the time (and can find a seat) you can order any of their freshly baked carbs with a selection of toppings from the deli counter.

I went with the kitke (basically the result of Jews marrying bread with cake ? + ? ) filled with brisket, mustard and pickles. It was delicious and we'll worth the wait for a seat.

Greatest food at ridiculously affordable prices for that area of Cape Town. Always enjoy having dinner here. 5555555555555555555555555555555555
Best baristas (mehmet) ;) best coffee, best hazelnut Iced coffee, best croissants, best sandwiches, Bladdy amazing deli. Giovanni's never disappoints :)

Probably the best haute cuisine style deli in Cape Town. A definite stop on any local or tourists visit. Get everything from deli & artisanal meats and cheeses. Plus ready made meals and ingredients. Also imported items. It's a trendy local meeting spot. My only negative is that it's a little on the pricey side, but you are paying for the quality and that's a price we all have to pay for a superb deli.

Giovannis is an absolutely world-class deli with a wide selection of fresh salads, a wide selection of ready-made deli items as well as cheeses, meats, breads, wines, coffee beans and more. The outdoor coffee bar offers a few standing cocktail tables for lunch or an evening coffee.
Leigh Dermick
European style coffee bar. Pop in for a coffee on go. Love the croissants here they are amazing. Coffee also really good and place is consistently busy for good reason. Also good selection of deli food
Jacqueline Sampson
Coffee is mad strong, if you're almost going all natural like me, trust me, this will send you soaring all day! The "make your own salad / sandwich" bar is probably the best in Cape Town and by far the best imported goods store in Cape Town!
Martini
The food is very good with a lot of variety. It is always full.
The prices are in the upper region but it's worth it.
Take aways are also very much in demand.
There is a delicatessen as well with a very good selection of cold meats and cheeses etc.
Both local and imported.
The coffee is also delicious.
I'd certainly go back and i recommend a visit.

Have been going to Giovannis for many years. Nothing changes, only the variety of goodies in the Deli seems to increase. Excellent coffee. Excellent baked goodies. Waddle through to the ladies at the back counters and ask them to fix a sandwhich, then take it to the front and order your Cappucino. Take in the sights and crowd. Yum yum yum. The deli is spectacular.

Often visit Giovanni's for the convenience of choice in delicious Italian food and take away option. It has a warm and welcoming feel with interesting assortments. Service is always good

My all time favourite....my home away from home. Ah Giovani's. Try a Panini with Chicken Schnitzel, mozarella and a smidge of mayo...it's one of my favourites...just simple, well cooked tasty food, though can be a bit pricey. They also have really big cheese croissants, just fill them with ham and cheese, and more cheese, heat up, and enjoy one of the best lunches you'll ever have. I always feel like I'm in Europe when I'm at Gio's, see all the regulars and hear a plethora of foreign languages. Dog friendly too and my Minnie (my Peke) is a regular at Gio's too. We love dog-friendly!!! Catch up with a yummy Italian hot chocolate, the Sunday Times and get transported back to Italy...cheaper than a flight!
