From the moment I walked in, I was warmly greeted by the staff, who went out of their way to ensure my comfort and satisfaction throughout the evening. They were attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and offered excellent recommendations. The ambiance was perfect - a blend of elegance and coziness that created the ideal setting for a wonderful dinner. Every dish that arrived at our table was a masterpiece, beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. The chef's creativity shone through each bite. What truly sets Miller's Thumb art is their commitment to top-notch service. They anticipated our needs, made sure we were happy with our choices. I highly recommend Miller's Thumb to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience with outstanding food and impeccable service in Cape Town. Spectacular seafood, you must visit when in Cape Town. I've never had a more delicious piece of fish in my life! Definitely get the Cajun seasoning. Overall cool vibe, great service, and very reasonably priced.

A perfect experience, was very nice to be there twice on vacation, the food is so delicious and perfect, as well as the staff and the restaurant itself. So attentive and kind, I felt very comfortable with you. Thank you for making it possible to be there on the last night of our trip. A unique experience was had at this place. Felt somewhat homely. They have various ways of cooking your fish for you. The one thing that surprised me was the size of the food portion. The menu had us looking at a full sized fish but when the plate landed it was a tiny cut 😐. I went there hungry, so I'm glad I ordered calamari starters which was amazing in cajun style. Dessert was epic as well, recommend their chocolate sauce! The atmosphere was rather loud. People were drunk at the tables next to us, and screaming but that could be an isolated experience

WOW!! This is amazing, Food, Service, Friendly Staff!! Jane is exceptional at welcoming guests and describing the SPECIALS of the day, all curated to entice your palate. Heather is an excellent server with handy tips to guide you through your experience. Off the beaten path and well worth the trip! We will definitely be visiting again!!

Simply awesome food and atmosphere. The owners are amazing. Highly recommend for very very very fresh seafood. Here we are five years later and the experience was as amazing as the first time I went there highly recommended what a wonderful dinner with my daughter and such person the waitresses and the husband-and-wife team that runs the show is unbelievable!

This is the cutest “Mom and Pap” bistro I’ve been to yet! The vibe at Miller’s is very quiet, yet lovely and warm. The staff is friendly, quick, attentive and the owners are also quite involved! They have a lovely array of specials that are told to you open arrival and a wide variety of wines that are on offer. I opted to order a number of tapas including the cajun fries, mussels and prawns (that came in a lovely tomato sauce). Overall the food was good and the fish was fresh! Unfortunately they didn’t have any cocktails on offer; the normal alcohol offering is quite good :) I would definitely recommend this for a nice family dinner or a cute date night. [They also give you the cutest ball of popcorn at the beginning of the meal - which is said to be the best in CPT 😂]

Miller’s Thumb is the kind of restaurant where you can return to, time and again, and never be disappointed. The owners are always there, the food is top notch and the service is personal, friendly and efficient. One of my favourite eateries in Cape Town. We have such a good time eating here, that I keep forgetting to take photos of the food. 😆😆

Set in a trendy part of the city Miller's Thumb is one of the crown jewels on all fronts on the strip. Jane and Dave (the owners) lead from the front with exceptional service and a high quality menu offering that is a sure winner. The high levels of service ooze through the team and Lynn and Heather were amazing taking care of us. We had the much recommended calamari and the west coast mussels for starters and both blew us away. The mains, I had the Malay style prepared job and the flavors were unique and mind blowing while my wife had a beautiful Cajun spiced rump steak. The cheesecake was a perfect way to end a perfect evening. Portions are generous and for us this is up there for value of money. The wine list is perfectly curated and a lot of thought has gone into it, it features some of the best estates in western cape. The decor here is unique and memorable. We will be back and highly recommend. Tip: pay attention to the special of the day that Jane passionately proposed to us when we arrived, has gems that will delight.

The service was personal and the waitresses very well informed about the menu. Food was delicious, but portions slightly smaller than expected.

5 stars, and this does not come easily (DM me for a more indepth reason)🤣 We always look forward to a visit to Solly and Jane. Friendly, attentive and always helpful. The food has always been first class and even when you try something new, it never disappoints.

As a capetonian, I have always looked passed the resturant as I do not eat seafood...however, recently visited the resturant for a birthday and was blown away by the rump steak - decent portion, quality meat and perfectly done to my requirements - and the skinny fries were just perfect! However, was very disappointed when our bill arrived to note there were additional/duplicated main meals (double dorado/double rump/double dessert/a soup/etc...) added onto our bill - about R500-R600 worth!! Luckily I checked the bill, but this did leave our party of 7 with a bad taste in our mouths...despite the meal being delicious.

This place is such a special find. It is an amazing fish restaurant but also has something for everyone. I've been to Cape Town twice with my husband and we have been to the miller's thumb 4 times. The couple who run the place clearly are passionate about what they do. Such a friendly couple. Jane front of house so very welcoming nothing is too much trouble and Michael working hard in the kitchen producing the most amazing food. You definitely need to go here if your ever in Cape Town. You won't be disappointed! �

Visiting Miller's is always a wonderful experience! Jane and her team always go out of their way to make your experience as perfect as possible. The food is fresh and delicious, served within minutes. The table service is always on point and friendly, the vibe and atmosphere warm and cozy like a family home. A bit sceptical at first, but then we were "WOWED" by the service that was amazing food that was different but absolutely amazing, and the generous portions! I could easily clasify Miller's Thumb as the best fish restaurant in Cape Town!

Fantastic fish, very well prepared and served with friendly staff, overall pretty good value too. Very minor thing - the lime given to squeeze was so cold we couldn't get much juice out!

This is one of the greatest restaurants in Cape Town. The food is cooked and served perfectly. The staff are incredibly friendly, and the owners are so kind. The atmosphere is perfect for a special occasion. It's also a place where the owners clearly care about the happiness of both their staff and customers.

Miller’s Thumb is a quirky restaurant with a great ambiance. The highlight though is the great tasting food. I had a tuna which was cooked to perfection and the dessert was just divine. I would recommend this to anyone in Cape Town and looking for a fine dining experience that isn’t necessarily uptight.

Miller's Thumb is my favorite restaurant in all the world. Solly and Jane are superb hosts and their staff are treated as family. Solly's dishes are legendary and the Cajum Rump with Algarve sauce would be my choice of last meal if given the ultimatum.

Great fish options and great service! I can see all that all the staff take pride in their establishment Unfortunately the mozambican curry was a bit bland- very sweet and lacked some spice. Prices are are in the tourist margin as well.

I never ordered the Jambalaya, but let me tell you- I was picking from my bosses plate! What an amazing meal. I am definitely coming back for a bowl just for myself! 😱

Ok wow, what a find, what a surprise. The quaint little place has homely feel type decor, the hostess was so informative, super friendly and welcoming. They have great variety particularly with fish. Excellent meal for lunch. Definitely will be back.

Great Find!! The food is great! Waiters are knowledgeable which makes easier to decide on a dish. Manager comes around your table to explain the dishes to and answer any questions you may have. We were a party of 4 and all chose different dishes - they were all flavourful and well presented. <br/>Can't fault them. Will definitely be back.

WOW. Ok, so we were in Cape Town for our honeymoon and went to several restaurants including some fine dining as well and let me say… nothing won our heart as Millers Thumb did!! Sooo good, we would definitely come back!! Order the Morroccan Calamari as a starter, their Cajun steak, and to top it off GET THE CHOCOLATE PECAN PIE. Definitely the best pecan pie I’ve ever had in my life (and trust me, I’ve had many) SO SO GOOD!! 10/10<br/>

12 years since first going here and it is definitely the best place to enjoy fresh fish, and something a little different like chilli chocolate rump. We took 16 friends there the other night and they all raved about the food and service. Well done Jane and Solly! Keith & Nicci

Went at the last minute and managed to get a reservation luckily. This place is amazing. The best calamari I have ever had - hands down. Soft, melt in the mouth kind of stuff. The staff are attentive but not overbearing and the owner is totally hands on and friendly. Will definitely be returning soon.

This is one of Cape Towns most consistent restaurants. The staff work as a team to serve you. The fresh fish is not the same every day- which really feels fun- and when it's sold- it's sold... they only make a certain amount each day... get there early or make a reservation! Honestly one of the best- non pretentious restaurants in Cape Town.

Took my mom here for a lovely dinner although they were fully booked the staff and management were still kind enough to accommodate us. I chose the Portuguese/Indian curry and it was divine with a mix of chicken and prawns!!!!

The best fish I've ever had. A total hidden gem in the city centre. I had the tuna done Malay style and it far exceeded my expectations. Warm and friendly staff too with the owners adding a personal touch.

First time at Millers Thumb and it exceeded all of my expectations. The service was impeccable, with the owner coming around to explain the specials herself.  The food blew us away. I have never in my life tasted such soft calamari (didnt even know calamari could be that soft), and the fish was out of this world. We had the Kingklip and Tuna and both decided it was the best fish we had ever had. Will be returning to Millers Thumb on a regular basis from now on. such a hidden gem!!

After moving in nearby, we held out on this place for 2 years, and then finally went the other day. It really is a fantastic place to get a fish in Cape Town, a city that is weirdly bereft of seafood restaurants. Great atmosphere, staff attentive and happy, owner comes to tables to talk about the fish of the day and the way it is cooked. Can recommend bluenose, and the Cajun spices! Great wines too.<br/><br/>Don't get the "Marseille-style seafood tomato soup" (boulliabaise?) - it just tasted like tinned tomato soup.

From start to finish, this was a pleasure. Although they were busy when we arrived, and for most of the evening, the staff worked tirelessly to ensure we weren't left waiting. When the kitchen was temporarily a bit backed up, they let us know quickly. But we had some bread, wine & tapenade as soon as we sat down - which kept us comfortable until the starters arrived. So the wait couldn't have been that long.<br/><br/>The fish is fresh, served in an impressive variety of dishes & everything we tried was delicious. The waitresses are very friendly & well informed, they know the dishes.<br/><br/>Despite being a full restaurant, and with at least one difficult table (9 people, who couldn't remember what they ordered), the staff kept everything running with an apparent effortlessness which actually undersold their hard work. This service team wears trainers because they need them, not for fashion?<br/><br/>But, and I can't state this enough, although the staff work rate was phenomenal, and they must have experienced moments of stress, this was never transferred to us. They still found moments to check we were enjoying ourselves, to ask about our holiday and to joke before rushing off to fetch the next plates. The combination of this gracefully fast service & the chef's whistling to announce the next order was ready made me think of the sunbirds we have enjoyed watching all over the Cape.<br/><br/>First class, delicious, attentive & (for customers) very relaxed dining. So stop searching & book a table now, you won't regret it!

One of my favorite restaurants in Cape Town! The owners make a fantastic team, with Solly in the kitchen working his miracles and Jane warmly welcoming the guests and informing them of the overwhelming choices of interesting and exotic taste combinations to choose from. The staff obviously enjoy working there and make up a family that you will get to know as you visit again and again. The decor is very bright (orange and green) and cheeful. Don't be put off by its simplicity because the food is awesome! Start out with the blue cheese salad (I hope one day Solly brings back the bacon option :)) The Groote Post Old Man's Blend makes a nice accompaniment to whatever you choose off the menu. They make a fantastic chili chocolate rump that made it almost impossible for me to explore the rest of the menu because I kept ordering it every time I went back. Another must is their blue nose fish done Cajun style...most have never heard of this flavorful flaky white fish, but you will love it! They have fantastic calamari and curries too, if you come again. Book ahead because they are busy, and for good reason!

I really love this place. I will come here every time I'm in CT. Really good quality food with unusual twists and every time delicious. Got to love he no nonsense hostess/owner. It's like coming home. Waitresses know their stuff and complete the experience. <br/><br/>You'd be missing out not to try the tuna in wasabi, any way you like it.

The food here is absolutely delicious and the seafood pasta is one of the best I have had! It is expensive, but definitely worth it. It has a bit of a weird atmosphere, but very friendly staff.

Big selection of food which had a cool supplement about the fish being used in the meals. The waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable. The acoustics weren't great though, and we struggled to hear eachother speak. We enjoyed having local beer on tap too and there was a reasonable wine selection.

This place is aggressively above-average mid-80s chic - decent bar, stable fish/meat/salad menu, blinding decor, good/solid/reliable staff - which is an unexpected surprise given that all the restaurants around them are mismatched helvetica furniture in bird cages. <br/><br/>At some point a person gets tired of sitting around cosplaying lumberjack space draculas, and for that person, the Miller's Thumb is where they should sit instead.

Great food! Seafood was super fresh and I enjoyed the Cajun flavors. Calamari and prawns were my favorite, but also enjoyed the jambalaya. Prawn curry was a little bland. A little funky and colorful decor.

Delicious food and good, lively vibe. Great wine list, too. I actually have no complaints here - everything on this menu is equally delicious.

Personally, I cannot fault Miller's Thumb and this may be my new favourite restaurant in Cape Town. The decor is "old" and relaxed, the atmosphere is alive and energetic and the food is FANTASTIC ! Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food and breadth of the menu. I simply must return, just to have the same meal again!

This was my first time here and I loved it. Their Cajun seafood is absolutely delicious. I had the best calamari I have ever tasted. It is a very warm and intimate restaurant with great service and amazing owners. I will be back to try more.

It was a cold and wet Friday and all I wanted was fish ... I took to my app and my friend Hayley only had great things to say about the thumb so I checked out the menu and went through. It's totally understated , kinda like a friend from schools dads take away Italian restaurant in Hermanus I use to visit during school holidays . But the food was so impressive . Staff were so friendly and who I assume was the owners wife attended to every patron which I love . So I ordered something crazy .. Seafood chilli ... I think I wanted fish and cheese 😂 and I could very happily have that every night , soft beans , spicy toe , chorizo , and perfect fish and muscles topped with nachos and cheese ... And a prawn!! Happiness is comfort food and this is comfort food. Hayley had dorado with chimichori .. So interesting, fresh and yummy . Left happy and well fed. Thank you

This is possibly my most favourite restaurant in Cape Town. It is tucked away just off kook street but always busy. The food is unique, with different ways of cooking their fish to compliment each type. The meat is phenomenal too - not just your standard steakhouse steak but dishes that have been created with flavours and sauces that will . blow your mind. Such an innovative menu with the favourites but there is always something new too!

Four of us went and by the end of the night we were all in agreement that this was the best seafood we'd ever eaten...anywhere. In the last decade I've had seafood at places all over Cape Town, none anywhere near as good as Miller's Thumb. Add to that amazing and super-friendly service and an unpretentious, relaxing atmosphere and you'd be very silly to not give this a go. For two of us this was our second visit and the first was equally good.

This is an absolute hidden gem in Cape Town.<br/><br/>They have the most amazing fish dishes, the chefs buys his fish fresh and cuts them himself, so you get a good size portion. He is famous for his beautiful flavours that he combines with his fish. The wine list is perfect, often I don't like wine choices at restaurants, but they have a great selection.<br/><br/>The owners wife comes and explains the dishes in details and leaves your mouth watering! The waiters are friendly and you can see they enjoy there job.<br/><br/>Definitely a winner!<br/><br/>

Miller's Thumb is a Cape Townian institution which I only recently stumbled across. Granted, the orange and turquoise exterior is rather bold, but it almost adds to it's appeal. Run by a husband and wife team, patrons choose their meals from their daily seafood menu, and everything is great. I particularly enjoyed the calamari and the tuna. Their prices are fairly high, but still reasonable for what you get. Will definitely go back!
