Review John Dory's Brackenfell - Brackenfell

Restaurant is impeccable. Outlay is brilliant. Spacious, neat. Staff is friendly, welcoming. My 4 stars. My order? I didn't like the calamari batter, was too salty. Cole slaw in red wine sauce tasted off. Husband didn't approve of his King Clip, tasted half done, raw. Ordinary rice was tasteless, chips came standard, were scorned, we returned half of our order to the kitchen. Kitchen Head came over, offered us a new batch. No, thank you, except for your onion rings, nothing was out of the ordinary. Think my expectations were too high. Got carried away by the misleading advertisements on TV. I do understand stock and sauces come standard from Head Office, they have to do with what they get. Our first time to any John Dory's, was definitely our last. The restaurant was not busy, empty so to speak and our orders were a big failure. To say we were disappointed, is an understatement. Maybe the normal kitchen staff were on leave the Monday we visited. Hint: Never to visit on a Monday. Our first and last visit, for sure. Loved the gin and tonic though.

First time ever visiting a John Dory's restaurant as all the hype from Brackenfell residents awaiting its opening made me think it should be tried. The restaurant is neatly decorated. The seating is nice and comfortable. There is a play area for the kids. Our son even got face painted. Bathrooms are neat and was clean. The food was good. Sushi seems unbelievably expensive, but this is always the case when compared to Sushi restaurants. Would definitely visit again sometime.

This branch is quite nice and we enjoy the food. Our son also loves the play area. The sushi is always fresh and the food offering is value for money.

What I loved the most was the kids play area. There were fully supervised. They also take the phone number and table number where you are seated before the child go play. The lady supervising the kids was awesome with my three year old. The food was nice, not more than I expected though. Kids eat free on Thursdays

This is probably the first perfect restaurant i have ever been too. From the moment we arrived the experience was great. The manager is such a great person to talk to and she made us feel so welcome. She greeted us as we walked in such a cool way like she is so happy to see us and really cared about us and what we would like. The staff was also on par with her and everything was taken care of with no hassle at all. The food .. of my the food... We had sushi and poppers and everything was so so nice. It was just a perfect experience. I would recommend this restaurant to all you will not regret it at all. As far as our last 30 restaurants go this was by far the best ever.

The staff were all friendly and dealt efficiently with a large Friday night crowd. 1 drawback was that no-one was advised, until seated, that the liquor licence had not yet been issued. While this was not a problem for our party, a number of couples were seen leaving before placing their orders. Some resourceful clients visited a nearby store and brought in their own supplies. I'm sure this glitch will not impact on the future of the restaurant.

Tonight we had some great fish, and wonderful prawns all with the regular sides of chips and rice. Excellent Milkshakes and really good Cappuccino. The restaurant is clean and welcoming. The staff at the front door all welcome you with smiles and the service was excellent on all levels. Timothy was well informed and attentive but not too much, he also knows all there is to know about the food and all the specials. Thank you John Dory for a lovely evening with great service and food. We will definitely be back.

Good day.

I was at John Dory’s Brackenfell on Tuesday 07 May 2019.

It was about 15h15 -15h30 and I ordered 4 meals (Fish,Chips,Rice,Prawns) extra 2 x Calamari.

I left at about 16h00.

When my family wanted to enjoy this R500.00 meal, we were so disappointed to find that the rice was sour.

I reported this to the manager and received an apology with the promise of a return call the next day.

Well, I am still waiting for that call.

If your service is as bad as the food being prepared, then this was my first and last visit to John Dory’s.

Hubby and I weren't actually big fans of John Dory's but this particular branch has changed our minds. Every time we go there the food is great and the service is amazing. I actually feel 4.5 is a good rating.

I’m always keen to try restaurants with sushi specials.

Every Wednesday 1/2 price on certain sushi. But it covers pretty much everything besides salmon roses so it’s not like it’s the end of the world.

The sushi is amazing and big!!! Lots of Avo, Salmon, Prawns etc. They definitely do not hold back on the seafood. And the rice is just the perfect amount.

It’s not the best location, and it’s your typical restaurant vibe that you get at any John Dory’s branch. It also has a kids playroom and it’s suited for the typical family with children.

The prices are great and the portions are big.

Sipho, was our waiter and he was friendly and quick from the moment we sat down till the moment we left.

Will definitely be back, when I’m in the area on a Wednesday and craving good, big, delicious & filling sushi.

Actually a 3.5. Went for the first time for the Wednesday sushi special. Was so stuffed.

They don't have a liquor license as yet but ur welcomed to pop over to the very convenient liquor store 20metres away to get what you want to bring inside, no corkage fee.

I'll start with what I didn't enjoy as it's a shorter list. I ordered hake bites: they were dry, had absolutely no taste, look nothing like the picture and didn't come with the sesame seeds and drizzled sweet chilli sauce. The prawn surprise: I was surprised that they came deep fried with the shell on. I felt like Mr Bean in that movie eating shellfish with shell on. Other that that is was nice.

The good: I love the fact that they didn't just have the basic rolls for the half price eg Maki, California rolls, sandwiches etc. There was a good variety of fun tasty sushi that u could choose from. Fresh and tasty. Prawn avalanche most awesome. Hat off the the waitress and the manager who were excellent. Service quick.

Will definitely be a new fav place
