We had the most incredible light lunch today. Delicious, amazing friendly service and comfortable setting, lounging on big couches overlooking the pools and grassy courtyard. Big tasty fish cakes, a Greek salad and a cheese plate, followed by the lightest gorgeous orange and almond cake with Chantilly cream and a scoop of florentine ice cream? Always great food. Also bought the best wholewheat bread, olive oil and Gorgonzola cheese to bring home.
We visited here out of season so only Wine Tasting available but still worth a visit to explore their wines smells, tastes and the experience. Beautiful surroundings and friend staff, lots of parking available and something else to note: If you buy any bottle of wine the tasting is free!
This remains one of my favorite Overberg destinations. Absolutely lovely! Tranquil, beautiful gardens, great wine tasting, top wines and one of the best restaurants in SA. The understated decor in the restaurant is beautiful but the food and the excellent service are the stars of the show!
Fantastic property location, deli, wines and restaurant. We stopped for lunch at the restaurant and the food was superb. One of the best burgers we have had. Service was great and the staff friendly, the atmosphere was relaxed. Prices we found to be reasonable. Nice selection of breads, cheeses and fresh foods in the deli. Nice selection of great wines. We will certainly be back for another visit.
Finally decided to pop in, after having driven by so many times. Enjoyed a generous wine tasting and complimentary bread and delicious olive oil. Some great wines and stunning venue with a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
Having driven past Gabrielskloof a number of times, I just had to stop here when I finally got the chance. The estate is beautifully situated, on top of a hill with the vineyards growing around it, and the main building is designed in an Italian Villa style so you will have ample opportunities for great photos. Inside the main building they have the wine tasting center as well as a restaurant built around an open courtyard with trees and water features spread around a big lawn. We arrived just after the lunch-time rush and were lucky to get a table with a couch at the wine tasting center that overlooked the courtyard. As I had never tasted their wine before I was very excited, but when the person that did our tasting revealed to us that he was the owner, Bernhard Heyns, it made the experience just so much more special. They have a wide variety of wines to taste and every single one we tried we enjoyed. Bernhard and his teams' passion for wine truly shows in the wines as well as the tasting. With our tasting we also got a complimentary board with some olives, olive oil and bread, and also got to learn a bit more of the different olive cultivars. We had such an amazing experience that I would say this is a must-visit vineyard in the area.
We had an early wine tasting and some breakfast. Staff were absolutely amazing with such great sense of humour! Awesome time
What an experience! Couldn't ask for better service or food. The facilities and view are spetactular. Do yourself a favour and make a reservation for a Sunday lunch. There is a deli too that has some really excellent local produce and unusual items I've never before seen. They cater for weddings and functions too and although a bit out of the way, one couldn't ask for a better setting, and there is good local accomodation close by.
Lovely setting for wine tasting and Candice was very knowledgeable and described the wines perfectly. Restaurant is closed due to renovations, will open in April. Was a bit disappointed that the Rosebud was out of stock.
Beautiful facilities with a magnificent restaurant. Good quality, beautifully presented food. Excellent professional service and fantastic wine. Kids enjoyed the large lawn and small play area (swing and hanging bars only). Overall a lovely experience.
Our first stop on the way from the airport hotel to Swellendam. My lord! The bread, arancini balls, and especially the pasta we had as a starter were out of this world! Most of South Africa’s coffee so far is too sweet/floral for our liking but this coffee was absolutely terrific. We’ve been talking about this place since we left it and can’t wait to make a quick pitstop here again!
