With the chilly weather apon us, what's your first thought when it comes to food? Comfort food? Warm Curries on these rainy days. Why not go for both. I got to try Masala Benoni this time round. I've bought from the boksburg branch, but little did I know they are not sister branches. They are separately owned and have different offerings. They recently moved to a new premises on Pretoria Road, Northmead and it's such a lovely big open space. The tables are "covid" approved in terms of spacing and all protocols adhered to. The decor is simple yet effective. Loved these images hanging on the walls. Now onto the food. We got Poppadums to nibble on with Lemon Pickle and Chutney, and Mint Chutney while waiting on our order, as well as our must have order of Masala Tea to keep the chill away. We had the Chicken Lollypops marinated in a special Masala and deep fried. So lovely and crisp with a spicy kick. Then the Malai Chicken Tikka with a Cashew nut paste, rich cream with Mild Spices and cooked in the Tandoori oven. If you want the food more spicy you can ask, we decided to stick with Mild for now to see what it's like. The portion sizes are quite generous for starters. For mains, they do have a wide variety of options on the menu. Be it Chicken, Lamb, Veg or Fish there is something for everyone. Including different types of Naan or Rotis or Parathas. We ordered the Lamb Chops Curry, and the Butter Chicken with a Garlic Naan. Again massive portion sizes, delicious flavour the gravy and my potatoes in my Curry were so delectable. The Butter Chicken was tender and slightly sweet and the Naan was perfectly made. To wash this down, even though we couldn't finish so much food we had the Mango Taz Mocktail. (Mango Juice, Lime, Grenadine and Red Grapetizer) Very different combination, but it worked and was refreshing. To finish off our meal, we couldn't resist trying the Pasayem (Vermicelli cooked with Milk and Cashew nuts) It's truly one of the best ones I've had. A bowl of hot goodness with just enough flavour, slightly sweet and creamy. Thank you to the Masala Team. Pankaj, Keshia, Nomfundo and Jali for a fantastic meal and service. One of our favourite restaurants. Food is superb, prices reasonable, and service is outstanding. Don't let the green dish put you off - the Chicken Palak (spinach and cream) is divine! Of course, the Naan breads is a must. The new venue is spacious and looks inviting. I wish this enterprise the absolute best, they deserve it!

Food was amazing. Staff was really friendly and accommodating. Really live the lamb korma dish was perfect sweet yet gad a great burn! Will be going back for sure! Kids lived the chicken.

The Lamb Roti and Butter Chicken with Butter Naan was absolutely mouth watering delicious. Highly recommended. Pahadi starter is delicious aswell.

The food is always delicious. I've really been enjoying their vegetarian options too. Not that I am a vegetarian at all. The Paneer curry it just to die for. Thank you very much! Heading back we decided to visit Masala, I had chicken Tikka with butter naan, Tikka chicken was really delicious and tender, well cooked. I really enjoyed it and portions Tikka and breyani were generous. Good service

Words cannot express how tasteful their meals are. Only ordered for take away, but the aromas that filled the house when we got home was absolutely amazing and the food was delicious. Will definitely recommend and will be going back for more soon.

2018/06/18 - Very, very yummy! We had lamb rogan josh, madras prawn curry and prawn and chicken masala, with a garlic and chilli naan and a garlic naan. It was all super tasty with a little bit of heat. Great food, great atmosphere and great service. Highly recommended!<br/>

Ordered over the phone was told to come after 30 mins when arrived was made to wait another 30 mins. Manager and lady who answers the phone have a knack for not listening to to the customers and feel the need that they know better what the customer wants. Don’t think I would use this one in north mead again. Would rather use the one in Boksburg longer drive but better service. Manager and staff need better training.

Ordered food on Friday, told us it would be ready in 10mins, 40 mins later we were still waiting. And on top of it I ended up with food poisoning.

My love of Masala started with their delivery service that they offer. Sunday night curries became the norm. However we went to sit down at their restaurant and to our delight they added to their menu. Whilst it became difficult to decide on what to order, our table was adamant that their individual meal they ordered where the best. Nobody felt short changed in taste or portion sizes. We then went on to try the Marsala coffee and it was amazing. It was a delicious experience.

I enjoyed my experience at Masala Indian Restaurant in benoni. It was my first time there. They weren't very busy. But the food was good. <br/>Although I do not know our waitress's name, she was very helpful!!<br/>Good service. Lovely seating area!

Told us 10 minutes 40 minutes later I still don't know when I was going to receive my order. This was when we were collecting.<br/>Last time was 3 hours and we still hadn't received our food. <br/>Don't waste your time and money.

I'm a big fan of spicy curries and was glad to see this place opening late 2016. We had a benchmarking chicken tikka masala and a lamb biryani. The biryani is HUGE. Like could feed three people huge, so its really good value for money. The chicken tikka masala was also tasty. As with most Indian restaurants, the atmosphere is less warm despite the fact that it was semi-full. Service was attentive though. I will be back!

A new addition to Northmead Square and worth a visit. The food is great and the service is really good. The butter prawn was really good and not that hot so no need to wipe your forehead as you eat. Enjoyed the place and will be back. And they have a nice smoking area for those of us that still want a smoke with our meals. Keep hip the great cooking.

What a lovely surprise. Being a "durbanite" who has an appreciation for a fine curry, I was simply thrust right back to the memories of enjoying a traditional curry in the heart of La Mercy!!!<br/><br/>Great flavors, excellent portions and sublime service not to mention the prices charged!<br/><br/>Will we be back? I saw this new restaurant at Northmead Square when we went to see how the renovations at the centre were progressing. I then saw it on Zomato and noted that they did home deliveries. Awesome. I had to give them a try as I was stuck at home. <br/>I called to order and spoke to a helpful & friendly gent. He took my details and order and suggested instead of a mild curry that I took half way between mild & medium. Good advice. <br/>The food arrived at home by motorbike. Unfortunately the green dip had spilt out in the plastic bag and everything had a green look and feel. <br/>I had a lamb curry with a garlic and cheese naan and a portion of samosas. The naan was soft and cheesy and garlicky and very tasty. The lamb curry was in a brown sauce and the meat was tender and tasty and really delicious. The curry was spicy but manageable and fragrant and very tasty. I really enjoyed it. Good lamb curry. <br/>Overall my whole experience was good and easy and delicious. I enjoyed the food and will be very happy to eat there again but this time as a sit down guest.<br/><br/>15/02/18<br/>I went to the restaurant to order a takeaway at 11:30. They open at 11:00hrs according to Zomato. <br/><br/>When I asked if I could order a takeout I was told “I’m not ready yet so it’s a problem”. He then stood there looking at me and shrugging his shoulders. <br/>Fantastic customer service!!<br/>Needless to say I walked out, never to return. There are plenty of other options in the immediate area.
