Review Hooked - Bellville

Really good experience. Fresh food with friendly and efficient staff. Didn't have to wait long for our food and even the snack bread provided was fresh. Our waiter Mike took good care of us. One of the best food experiences I have had in quite a while. Thanks guys.

Food was fresh and amazing at competitive prices, ambience can use a little work, service was good except for an incident that happened that almost made us leave. Upon arrival we were seated at a dirty table. After a couple of minutes, a paper cloth was thrown on the table over our belongings and soon after the bread arrived. Eventually we had to clean and neaten the table ourselves due to the lack of service for at least 8 minutes. After confronting the waiter, she got very stubborn about her poor sevice and gave no apology. Once we requested a new waiter, the service level went up and everything was professional from there on.

Had a late lunch here with my dad. R109 for their Fish & Calamari. This was the "half-chips, half-rice" portion 😂. Two pieces of fish and about two handfuls of calamari. The photo doesn't do it justice! It's definitely bigger in person. Will definitely be eating here again 😉 PS: the store must be in association with Ocean Basket, as the vibe, menu and food are all of equal quality. Plus incredibly friendly staff from beginning till end.

Four stars to my and my wife's favourite waiter Thabisa... Having our favourite dish today, the famous fish and ships. But it was a disappointment, the fish wasn't fresh it had scales on it and over done. However the hot chips was good. Also please work on presentation. See you soon, Hooked!

Jacques' service was very attentive and the prawns were nice... a bit over cooked... tasty and fresh!

My family and I usually order online from Hooked. Today we had some of the famous fish 'n chips. It was delicious as always. But I have to say, the thing that is in a class of its own is the rolls. Oh my, those beautiful buns are fantastic. Please support Hooked, great food (and of course the rolls). And very friendly staff.

We often go there, because of the excellent value for money of their meals. They have this special of hake and chips for R59. Normally you would expect small portions for that amount, but it is full size. The two times that we ordered that, the quality was exceptional. The fish is crispy, not oily and flakes. Signs that it was cooked to perfection. Before that, we received a delicious homemade bun roll. So tasty, I can make a meal of that itself. The chips was crispy, without being overcooked or oily. Then there are the staff. They are very friendly and make you feel at home. The service was spot on and the turnaround time for the food was quick. Now for the coffee. I just love their coffee. Nice and strong and a decent serving. Even my 8 year old daughter loves to go there. Thank you Hooked for always making our dining there a fabulous one. I can strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoy good food.

Decent portion size for their R59 fish and chips. The salad option is a good option if you prefer not to have starch. Always had a decent meal. There are some waiters that require some training or a talking to about their level of service. Still popping in once in a while - fish and chips (or now with veg) still a hit. Service seems to be better.

Ons was vanaand vir die eerste maal by Hooked Restaurant. Hierdie was verseker die eerste van nog baie besoeke. Die kos was heerlik voorberei en die diens van die kelner puik. Ek beveel enigiemand aan hom hierdie plek te besoek.

Third visit and loved the food.Absolutely worth it, value for money, quick service, everything was fresh and a top notch waiter the waiter that served us was really friendly. The roll with the jam and the sauce that was served with it was divine. Will be back soon for that fish and stirfry. Keep it up team.

First time and they were very busy due to wikideal special. Waiter was slow, waited 35 minutes for food, meal was a 7/10. With angel fish prepared real nice and juicy (9/10)...better than OB, calamari although nice and soft was not evenly cooked as my friend could taste flour on some (7/10) and chips had a slightly burned taste and texture of chips that stood to long (1/10), sauce was fine (6/10) and my pan did not have a lemon :) Malva pudding (2/10) was a huge disaster. The size of a meal on it's own.... Many will compare to OB but it's not OB. I'd prob go back again if there is a deal but OB is always my first choice. I def' rate them 7/10.

Visited your restaurant last night. Your menu and decor looks great. Had a Salmon Burger as a starter (looked appetising). Our waiter was efficient and well spoken). However, food was cold, was warmed and enjoyed it second time around. Here’s the issue, the sushi made me extremely ill during the early hours of this morning and for these two reasons, I rate my experience a ONE and doubt that I’ll be back anytime soon. Thanks for the unforgettable experience. Yours in sickness.

It was my first time at hooked but I was surely not hooked at all: -Extremely oily chips like it was fried in old oil. -The only thing on my platter that was fresh was the hake. -The prawns overcooked. -The extra garlic butter sauce was tasteless. -My platter was replaced but still not a very happy customer and don't think I will return.

Last night we went looking for OB in Tygervalley when we came across this Hooked restaurant and we were amazingly Hooked by a waitor named Tatenda who gave us an excellent service, we ordered a Platter for one, the food was Devine and the cocktail � Heaven�, I have to say we were impressed and very much Hooked to a point that we will be coming back. Thank for the wonderful service Tatenda.

We have been to Hooked, Tygervalley Centre a number of times now and always enjoy the meal, especially the lovely bread bun you are given along with the meal. We have always found Management & Staff both friendly & efficient and look forward to having many more seafood meals there. Cheers.

I was very impressed with our visit. Even though we had a wikideal we were treated like equals. Almost gave up when we saw the que but it moved very quickly and people waiting were served wine tasters which I think is a great idea. The Seafood chowder starter is a must try - might even have it as a mains next time. Really good flavour and portion size. Mains was good (would just prefer calamari tubes but that was the deal) and received almost a whole pan of delicious veg instead of chips & rice. Chose the bread & butter pudding that was included with the deal and was pleasantly surprised. I believe I'm hooked, pun intended!

First visit. Absolutely loved it. Even though the food took long to arrive, when it finally came it was amazing! Calamari was amazing and the chips were sooo good, as was the onion rings and mac&cheese. Will definitely be coming back. And BTW Rambo is an excellent waiter!

Wow i dont know what you did but the last few times we were there it was still OB and everything was going downhill the food ,the service ...but now with the new place Hooked we were so impressed !!! The food was out of the books you could account the huge change the service was excellent !!! Keep up the good quality and service i will defnitely get everyone Hooked on this place ! ��

I enjoyed a take away meal from Hooked in Plumstead yesterday. I had the platter with fish, calamari, prawns, mussels and rice. The mussels were a bit small but the meal was quite enjoyable!

Hubby and I were looking for some good seafood after all the Christmas meat. We decided to try Hooked and we were not disappointed. The food was so fresh and tasty. I couldn't even contain myself before taking a pic. The bread you get before your meal is freshly baked and tastes amazing. You get service with a smile and we didn't wait long for our food. Just one hiccup, I would have wanted more saucy prawns, but that's a personal preference.

I’m so confused...the menu reads like ocean basket and it’s prepared pretty similarly... are they the same place or outright knocking off ocean basket? <br/><br/>That aside, I ordered the calamari done in 3 ways with spicy rice and a side salad via Mr Delivery. I prefer their lemon butter sauce compared to ocean basket’s. But overall it’s pretty much the same. <br/><br/>Would likely order from them again.

Amazingly hooked serves real butter not Margerine blends with the bread, and surprisingly the grilling sauce doesn’t taste of Margy wargy either. Thank you hooked. It’s like ocean basket used to be when they were fresh and tasty.

Amazingly flavourfull food. Friendly staff. Been here 4 times already and will def recommend above ocean basket. Much better taste in food and flavor.

Only reason I do not ever give full points is that there is always room for improvement but this take away I ordered was a great experience. Firstly, the brittle/crispy Hake batter was a real surprise and delight to have (took the platter for one) and the prawns were so delivcate and softly prepared it melted in my mouth.<br/><br/>I ordered for myself and three colleagues and there were only compliments. I have only one little problem with my order, the half/half chips and rice all came out as just chips but again, the triple cooked thick cut chips was amazing so I don't have a problem with that.<br/><br/>Very good value for money, thanks.

What a delightful experience! Hooked is the place to get all your “ off the menu must haves”. This was my 3rd time dining here. Their Chowder is a must have! Today I had their fish and veggies and it was great! One time I came only to have of their complimentary freshly baked bread! The waiters are always friendly and serves to please!

Let’s just say the rating should be -2!!!<br/><br/>We decided to give Hooked On Fish in Tygervalley Mall a go since we had the craving for all things seafood and stuff...<br/><br/>My excitement soon changed to utter and pure disgust when we arrived...the waiter greeted us, took us to a dirty table (which would’ve been fine if he had offered to clean it first), we soon told him to seat us at a different table. Little did we know, 3 steps over and we were on the dirtiest restaurant floor I’ve ever come across...my wife grabbed my arm as she slipped on a piece of what looked like cucumber on the floor. <br/><br/>Nevertheless, we made it to the “clean” table, but now no waiter in site, no menus, no NOTHING!! <br/>The waiter eventually came over with a warm bread for the table...yay.... but no plates??? After asking for plates it took him another 5mins to make an attempt to get us plates! <br/><br/>This was the final straw!!! And we left!!<br/><br/>Needless to say, I gave the manager a bit of my mind...pointed out that there was only 3 tables that had customers (so it wasn’t busy), that she shouldn’t be standing OUTSIDE the restaurant having a fat chat and that the service is S#!T!!<br/><br/>I will NEVER get Hooked again!! (a real pity)<br/>

the customer service is pathetic, manager included ,food was tasteless and no salt or pepper was offered with my meal not even something to wipe my hands , my mussels was drowning in garlic and butter

Ordered a glass of juice, 15min wait.<br/>Ordered 8 pieces rainbow roll and 3 salmon roses, waited 35min. Salmon was not fresh, very pale and texture was mushy. Hard pieces of connective tissue and dried out pieces of rice. Did not finish my plate, picked out most of the meat. <br/>This was lunchtime, barely 15 people in the restaurant, service was not great.

Visited hooked today and I was impressed. The food was really tasty and well priced. The waiter (marvern) was friendly and attentive. Food didn't take long and he checked up on us a few times. Will definitely be back! :-)

Tried this new place in Tygervalley since Ocean Basket is closed. <br/><br/>I was so impressed by the prices, much cheaper than Ocean Basket. We were seated quite quick. <br/><br/>I ordered the hake and veggies, but when the food arrived it was served with chips and rice. The waiter said the veg was off so he decided to bring me the chips and rice. <br/><br/>I feel like the waiter could have asked me if I wanted something else. Since I'm eating a paleo based diet I can't have chips or rice. I would've ordered something else. <br/><br/>I will definitely be back though, because of the good prices and the fish was really, really good!

Awesome service, great food. We had fresh baked bread when we got there with a selection of condiments, butter and apricot jam which was heaven. Platter for one followed with line fish, mussels, calamari, rice and chips. The food was great!! Then came the dessert, malva pudding with a choice between custard or ice-cream... that was really the cherry on the cake. I would definitely go back🤗👌especially with the warm friendly atmosphere!!<br/><br/>

We ate at Hooked in Tygervalley Mall today. The service was very good, however we weren't blown away by the food. I had fried fish and chips. The fish was lovely, but the chips weren't good at all. My mom had fried fish and salad. The salad was very small compared to the picture advertised and had zero lettuce. It was basically 90% cucumber salad. Great value for money though as the meals were R50 each. I'd go back for the fish.

The line fish was dry as was my son's. I had a stomach upset probably from the mussels something I have never had in all the years from eating at the Ocean Basket. The bread served up was doughy and not properly cooked inside. Very disappointed will never go there again. My son complained of oily feeling in his mouth and stomach after eating the calamari.

Lovely food just like ocean basket only you have to bring more bread:-P Love the new designs in the restuarant would recommend it for people that love seafood in a garlic and lemon butter sauce!

I was prepared to walk past this restaurant this afternoon assuming it was the old Ocean Basket, but since changing to Hooked they have outdone Ocean Basket in many ways. Their service is friendly and attentive, their sushi is fresh and delicious, and their fried calamari strips alone are worth a repeat visit. Thank you for the meal!

My favourite part of this restaurant is the complementary big paninis that they serve as a starter. I ordered the grilled hake and a side of mac and cheese. The fish was fresh, however the mac and cheese was extremely cheesy and had a very odd smell. The manager very kindly replaced it with stir fried veggies. Otherwise, good affordable seafood and friendly service.

Great friendly service. Food tasty had the platter for two, mixture of hake, mussels, large prawns in butter sauce. Better value than other similar restaurants. Would recommend.
