I just loved this place. It's quirky, filled with local art, great service and food. I would definately go back again and again. We were lucky to get a table so would suggest booking one.
Lovely restaurant with super friendly owners that explain the meals and wine perfectly. We absolutely enjoyed our meal! The perfect end was a look into the little wine area to chose some take away wines after great explanations and recommendations. Thank you for the nice evening :)

A mother and son team run a tight ship, with exceptional service and world quality service set in a rustic chic space with good energy and happy vibes. A must visit.
Mez Karoo Kitchen is a jewel of a garden setting in Barrydale offering delicious wine and authentic Mediterranean food (at competitive prices). Convivial, sharing small plates and generous large plates of glorious flavors. We loved our evening.
What a surprise? Fantastic food, something different. Very good wine selection. Beautiful little cellar. Mother and son owns the restaurant, prepare and serve the clients. It was a wonderful experience. We will definately be back.
Lovely decor, interesting dishes, delicious food and flavours. Exceptional. Run by mother and son, with passion and love, which can be tasted in each dish served. Personal friendly service, great ambiance. The chocolate pot dessert was out of this world! We'll definately come back to Barrydale, specifically for this restaurant. Simply wonderful. What a find.

Popped by for dinner at Mez on the recommendation of some locals and what a gastronomic delight.
Everything from the welcome at the door by Kyle, to the beautiful decor, and down to every delicious morsel was like being in another time and place. I really appreciated the thought and art behind the space and food. Michelle and her team have crafted a gem in the Karoo where as soon as you step into the restaurant you feel a merging of all the places that inspire the dishes - Mediterannean, Middle Eastern, Mexican, Italian and not forgetting the local Cape Malay traditions.
Not a fan of courgettes so decided to be adventurous and try the fritters. Excellent and perfect balance of the cheese and courgette, a bonus that it was Gluten Free.
Tried the Malay Curry and the lamb was cooked perfectly, paired with home-made chutney. Whilst the veggies were meant to be a side, they were flavoured just right to star on their own.
I have been on many travels outside SA and only one other dining experience in India rivals the treat that was Mez.
Definitely heading back for more! A must on your visit to or stop through the Klein Karoo.
A culinary gem in Barrydale! Such a warm and inviting space with a romantic atmosphere. The food is delicious with either shared tapas plates or larger portions available. A must visit should you ever be in this darling town!
