Review The Butcher's Wife - Athlone

This place is truly deserving of 5 stars! The food is totally delicious. It does not matter which meal you order, the experience will be the same. The milkshakes and mock tales are equally good. The atmosphere is quant and intimate. I would honestly drive 30 minutes just to eat there.

The food was fantastic. Fresh, hot, tasty. We had pizza with the low carb base which was amazing, pasta and soup. Definitely looks like there's something for everyone. Can't wait to bring the kids.

An absolute must go to if you’re in Cape Town!!! I came to Cape Town from overseas as part of a family holiday. After getting to know my driver better, I mentioned that I’m a serious foodie and keen to explore the great halal-food offered around Cape Town. He kindly recommended that I must give The Butcher’s Wife a visit. This is quite simply, the best steak food place I’ve ever visited and ate at in the world! The Butcher’s Wife had this quirky, cafe ambience to it. Very well designed and delightful to the eyes. The staff were incredibly friendly and seating was in good supply. The actual ‘Butcher’s Wife’ approached our table, as my accent gave away that I wasn’t from South Africa! She was very polite and hospitable (as were the other staff). Being the first time we visited, we opted for the large variety of different dishes from the menu: Philly cheese steak baguette, prego steak salad, crumbed mushrooms antipasti, lamb steaks and chocolate cakes. The food was absolutely incredible! The flavour to price to quality ratio was fantastic. The ratio of sauces to meat and overall laurering of the steak sandwiches and food was perfect. We ended up visiting this restaurant every day for our entire 11 day visit to Cape Town. I cannot wait to visit Cape Town and this restaurant again! Highly recommend.

Oh my God....what an experience from the staff to the amazing food mind blowing. ..Just to say I love Spur but sorry Spur ...Butcher's wife took it to another level for me and my husband well done....I will definitely recommend it to my client .....See you again soon

A absolute must try if you want to spoil yourself or your wife/husband. Food is fantastic and filling, the fresh juice is perfect and the steaks and ribs are tender and juicy. The reason for 4 stars is due to the "crumb" mushrooms, unfortunately can see and taste that it was frozen and the coating isn't crumb but still nice and the sauce is great. All in all a definite yes and place I'll go to again soon.

Good cuts of meat. Restaurant is small and clean. Medium rare was real medium rare. Not Belgravia medium rare, so if you want it well done, make sure to ask them. Ribs are outstanding, nice and lean, tender. Turkish delight milkshake was awful, it tastes too perfumed. Highly recommended overall though.

A lovely place with amazing food, the pasta and fries are delicious. Service was great as well. 10/10

Ribs was probably the best ribs I've had. Succulent, juicey. It literally melts in your mouth. For all the time I've eaten there I can't say I had a one bad experience yet.

The breakfast menu is limited compared to the rest of the menu however the portion of the meal did not disappoint. True value for the money and it sure tasted delicious. I had the TBW Croissant Benedict which was only R100 and my friend had the scones (which was really filling). You receive two scones for R65. We shared the cheesy steak melt and it was just as delicious. This was my second time at The Butcher’s Wife and both times the restaurant was not full. Therefore I recommend you go once it opens or in the middle of the month. Awkward part is when you are so close to the next table and can hear everything they say. The venue is quite small and space is limited. However the food is prepared in a decent time and the waiting period isn’t long. So less awkward moments. The food is really worth it, the service is good and you really get value for your money.

The food was amazing, service was also good. It's a great place for chilled vibes.

First time in the restaurant, food was amazing but even better service from our waiter (Zikhona ). Never waited long, the food was warm and tasty. I requested as the dishes are ready they should bring it and not wait for the whole order. It was as if she was watching us finish each dish and brought the next. Even thou it is difficult the manage a restaurant in the fast because every one wants to eat on Magrieb. Will definitely recommend the restaurant to my friends and family. Keep up the good food and excellent service. I will be expecting it every time I come Shukran.

Always hearing about this place and was excited to try it .. finally got to try it today and it was a total waste .. the staff are completely untrained and unprofessional .. one of your female staff members that has a scar on her left arm, really needs to learn how to act and behave as a staff member because all she does is be disruptive and wants to swear one minute then the next get into a dispute with fellow staff members and what have you and the best part is that the manager isn't even bothered, all he does is stand around and stare into space.. tables need to be assigned because every waiter will come to the table and ask if you've ordered..no structure.. my husband ordered a philli cheese steak baguette which he thoroughly enjoyed but there wasn't much steak on it .. the Greek style fries were great though.. I ordered a tikka chicken pizza which was horrible .. if you're gna make a tikka chicken pizza .. at least don't be stingy with the chicken on it because it looked like bits and pieces of mince here and there and there's ABSOLUTELY NO tikka taste at all .. no taste for that matter .. all u taste are the onions on top .. and don't even start with the tomatoes that you use .. it's the size of golf balls! .. have you never heard of mini Italian tomatoes? .. my word I was only interested in the fries .. and then to drink we had passion fruit and lemonade .. you could at least train your staff to add a bit more of the cordial because we could've rather just ordered a can of the lemonade because that's all that could be tasted..horrible experience..wouldn't recommend this place to anyone or want to ever come again.. there's also the fly problem and the major seating problem that you have..thanks for wasting my money and charging a lot for such

After hearing about u guys for such a long time, I finally managed to come around and I was so excited. What a disappointment though, after ordering a piece of tart and a latte, 20 min passed my waiter standing behind the counter chatting, laughing and dancing with fellow staff members. Nothing needed to be prepared, the tart just needed to be cut as it was under a dome on the counter. I managed to make eye contact he continues dancing. Eventually another waiter comes by to ask, 5 min later the new waiter brings it and says the guy forgot about my order, another 5 min later I get the latte, 5 min after that I had to ask for sugar, halfway thru I had to ask for serviettes. The staff are so unprofessional which is sad coz the menu looks real good. Unfortunately I won't bother going back there

After being convinced by my hubby to you give you another try, I was again disappointed for a 4th time.I placed an order at 7pm had to wait nearly 45 min for it, repeatedly saying it must be well done as all our previous orders were raw at times with blood still inside. As I bit into the burger I noticed that once again the burger was raw. I called at 8pm to notify you of the raw burger again. I received a new burger at 20h55. Seriously. 55 minutes later. Service and griller is appalling. Never again.

Was so excited to have a meal at your place.. But boy oh boy was I disappointed it's pointless investing it a pretty place and a fancy menu when the staff pretty much sucks. So we were a biggish group about 11 of us and a baby we asked if the 2 seater table could be pushed next to ours to accommodate the group. The manager point blank refused we explained that we are a big group and that their wasn't enough space for us, she insisted that the 2 seater table was for couples who walk in...she basically told us that their is no room for us even though their were vacant tables which weren't reserved at all and she cannot accomdate us, so just like that we were forced to leave. How pathetic and needless to mention the profit that was just lost by turning away 11 people who came for a celebration. Never again, totally unacceptable and definitely not the way to treat customers.

Ok here goes, I LOVED the food. That caramel popcorn milkshake: perfect! The decor, menu options and overall vibe the place has was great for me. Not so great was the staff. And here is what I dont understand, I have read reviews from months ago and the general tone of the negative reviews were complaints about customer service/staff attitude. So either whomever runs this facebook page just placates customers by giving mandatory apologies and not communicating the message to the staff or they do know and just dont care. Which is it? It was my first time so I wasn't aware of the takeaway situation vs sit down. No-one was at the door to seat me so I wondered over to the bar area reading the menu etc. By the time I decided to place my order Chantell the very unfriendly manager (I dont want you to be my friend, but be cordial and welcoming it is your job) took my order but told me someone was supposed to have seated me for a sit down. I say ok no one was there etc. Here she didnt even offer an apology, just a straight face and waiting for me to finish. Anyway waiting for a table and finally one becomes available. 3 different waiters come to take our order thats already been placed, the staff vibe is one of confusion, disinterest and lack of enthusiasm normally associated with waiters expecting a tip. Then the food came and it was delicious we ate, paid, I didnt leave a tip because well crap staff vibes. So to end off this tirade, The Butchers Wife, I hope you take note of these types of reviews, we arent being difficult we are pointing out a serious flaw. Your manager needs people skills, your staff need to learn to work together especially in such a small space, so perhaps a better system is in need. And the person reading this needs to stop making empty promises of addressing the issue but then clearly nothing changes.

My first visit and boy oh boy was I stunned! Amazing cozy atmosphere and the food is top class. The presentation of food is also very nice would recommend this spot to all 🤗🤗

I have been going to this establishment since they were St Elmo’s. Ever since the name changed they have only gone from good to waaaaaay Better. The food is amazing and any place that is packed everyday of the week only tells me that the response to TBW is amazing. Thanks for never disappointing me and my family when it comes to taste, service and value for money

The food was awesome, I had pasta which was really nice. We had your pizza's and steaks and it was the best thus far. The set up looks great etc. Only one problem, your place are cramped and there's little seating. The toilets are outside which you need to walk threw a dark lobby. Please try to get another branch with more space. The food is tops. Keep up the good work.

First time there and I can't fault the food. The Apple Mint and Ginger juice was so refreshing. Our table ordered different pastas, lamb chops and ribs as well as the rib eye steaks and beef ribs. Not only did it look delicious when the food arrived but everything was made to perfection. We all had a great lunch...all 8 of us. Service was good too...with friendly waiter.

Food was excellent, love the layout and designs of the restaurant aswell, the staff was a bit slow though, three different waitresses, seemed they were a bit confused, overall excellent food, excellent place

When we visited TBW about two month's ago we were happy with the chops meal we ordered. So on Monday evening we decided to go back. My husband ordered the chops meal again and I ordered the beef ribs meal. The minute I ordered the beef ribs I thought I might have made a mistake coz I noticed in the past few weeks all the bigger butcheries are selling the pre-marinated beef ribs at a reduced price. And we all know what they say about pre-marinated meat. I nevertheless stuck to my original order. When we ordered our meals we pointed out to the waiter that we did not want our meat soaked in sauce coz my husband is diabetic and those sauces are normally full of hidden sugars and carbs. And too much sauce is never nice. He agreed. When the patrons at the table next to us received their meat and it was soaked in sauce my husband called the waiter again and pointed out that this is not what we want on our meat. He said no it won't be on our meat. Then our order arrives. And yes. You guessed right. Our meat was soaked in sauce. We called the waiter. He said no. We have less sauce than the other patrons. My husband had to wipe his sauce off with a serviette. I had to ask the waiter to take my meat to the kitchen to rinse my meat and put it back on the griller. He returned my meat rinsed, without putting it back on the griller. So there I was with my wet meat. And my suspicions about the pre-marinated meat was all right. The inside of my ribs was purple and even black. Eventually we called the manager. She apologized and said she's sorry about the sauce story and nope they don't sell old meat. All the while trying to convince me how we were wrong and she was right. In the end I just told her it's okay we just won't come back. And she was fine with that too. So glad she's not working for me.

Arrived before opening time for breakfast. Staff allowed us inside. Good food. Friendly staff. Cozy. Will definitely come again.

I am so very disappointed in this place especially when ordering a delivery do you have no pride charging 20 delivery fee and then the food is cold and tasteless, portions are smaller and the chips salty. The driver made me come all the way out in my street on a cold dark night to fetch my delivery. Definitely have given up on this place now will never order again. Total waste of money

Really impressed. Went to TBW was greeted warmly by all the staff and management. For a friday evening, did not even wait too long for our order. The food and beverages (we had a variety of milkshakes and cappucinos) which was amazing. 5 *s for atmosphere, presentation, staff and taste of course )

Service is not great! You wait forever(over 40mins)for food which is pretty average!(staff tell you that this is the normal waiting time and apparently have signs saying so). I tried the cheesy steak baguette which was wayyy too crisp and flavourless. Left my mouth raw after all the chewing. The chops were tasty but too overdone! Given that it was peak season in CT and they were busy, I would give them one more try.

I placed a telephone order from Butchers wife in December 2018.

I ordered a margarita and a rib pizza. I was actually quite impressed with the toppings. They were not stingy and I liked how the crust tasted.

The margarita was wonderful but I wanted more cheese. I didn't like the way their mozzarella tasted.
However, if you are looking for a quite bite to eat in the Athlone area, they are a good option. It gets quite full however.
Rizwaana RSR
This place has the best halaal steak ever! We love the beef medallion basted with either masala or BBQ basting. The onion rings and sweet potato fries are my favourite side options. For starters the Greek salad + crumb mushrooms + focaccia are really good.
Aneesa
All food that I’ve tried from here is always so good.

Decided to get a takeout from this quaint little restaurant. The actual decor in the space was lovely and quite rustic. The waitrons were also incredibly friendly and helpful. The meal itself was delicious. I had the lamb riblets with the spinach and mozzarella balls as a side. The basting on the riblets was very tasty, but the main event really was the spinach and mozzarella balls. I'll probably add them to everything I have from here from now on.

Great vintage look but I bought a prego burger to take away. Was pricey and I was hungry. So thought this might fill me. But was sad to see it was two thin pieces of steak on a bun😢

A great neighborhood steak house, filled with amazing smells. The menu has a wide range of options, I had an amazing fillet which was succulent, flavourful and really generous. Good milkshakes too.
Definitely a must try!

Great ribs and pizza.. But they take a bit too long with your order will only go back when I'm not very hungry but the place is beautiful however it is a bit small the ambience is great especially at night

Great pizza. Great steak. Average burgers.
Love the bread under the steaks. The burger patties and steaks cant be basted with the same sauce. ??

After coming to a dirty table...there was a no show by the waiter for more than 10min after giving me the menu and decided to leave
Regarding prices...bit pricey :(

Have been to the butchers wife twice now. First time had steak and this time pasta. Small place to go early as it can be full. Wide variety of options on menu. Steak was really good when I was there last and cooked perfectly. Could do without the hard flatbread. But this time had the chicken Alfredo paste and spaghetti and meatballs. Both were really good and light. Spaghetti and meatballs a bit spiced but good consistency. And Alfredo tagliatelle was nice and creamy. Recommend as it is a good quality fully halaal option with ok service and decent decor. Alas just a bit small in size.
Mish-al Ebrahim
This is utterly appalling. Whilst eating my Primavera, I noticed a strange thin layer. PLASTIC. A large piece almost covering the entire slice! What if I had swallowed that!
Uzair Essack
TBW has a very clean and modern setting. They have a large menu but manage to pull it off. Prices are decent for the quality you receive.

The steak is their signature dish which is served on a naan and with a side. They always cook it to perfection and the chilli basting gives it an extra kick (optional).

The pizza is made in a wood-fired oven which results in a smokey taste.

They also have a wide selection of drinks with many unusual milkshake flavors such as Popcorn.

This is an amazing halal restaurant in the Athlone area so I was spoilt for choice.I opted for the alfredo chicken pasta and tried some of the pepper steak pasta too, both dishes were delicious.
For dessert I had the cheesecake with cream which was superb so I would definitely recommend trying it.
The service is a bit slow and the seating is limited but my overall experience was still great.

Always told to try this eatery. The women chose to have my birthday dinner here. 14/05/18. I must admit this places food blew us away. We eat out quite often and the food here is amongst the best that we have had. I just hope for their sake they uphold this standard so that they can continue to be successful. Well done to the chefs for preparing such great meals and the staff for their outstanding service. The beef fillet, barbacue chops, chicken avo salad was all great. This is one place I cant fault on the quality and taste of their food. well done "The Butchers Wife"

Despite the wait because the restaurant is small, the food is totally worth it! And I can’t wait to be back for more and I love that your steak is served on a piece of bread that soaks up all the sauce and juices. So yummy!

Excellent food - steak was cooked perfectly and was very enjoyable. Small, cosy little place with a relaxed ambience. Service was average but the food would make me go back there again and again.

We waited a while to be seated - the restaurant was super busy but it was worth the wait.

The food came quickly and it was superb. The portions are generous. I would say it's reasonably priced for the quality and quantity of food.

Service was excellent.

good food. great atmosphere. staff are friendly. good place for the whole family and for relaxed get togethers. menu caters for every taste and they even do takeaways. another bonus is the desserts
Khalidah.patel
Excellent Restaurant with great burgers, pastas and steak. Price range is abit premium but the taste is worth it. Fully halaal as well which is wonderful. Only problem is that premises is really small so it’s always busy and sometimes can feel like you are sharing a table with other strangers.
Rizqah Adams
Fantastic service and excellent quality! We had the rib eye steak which was cooked to perfection-juicy and tender. The sweet potato fried were perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside. Also had the seafood pizza and crumbed mushroom starter which were both excellent.

Good serving sizes, do not make well done steaks. Up to your own personal preference. Reasonably priced. The pasta was lovely, average serving size
Our first visit to the restaurant and we absolutely loved it. The food and service was amazing. The waitress was friendly, patient and very helpful. Our meal took about 15 minutes to come which was unexpected as the place was quite full and busy. Pasta and salad were both freshly made and our milkshakes were super yummy. The meal was also really affordable considering the quality and quantity we got. The only critique I have is the seating... It was full inside so we had to sit outside, weather was good so it wasn't so bad. Overall a lovely experience we will surely come back.

The Butcher's Wife

Situated in Belgravia Road, Athlone, this popular local joint serves up burgers, wood fired pizzas and grills. They are fully halaal and offer sit down and take away meals as well as a delivery service for the surrounding areas.
I ordered the classico burger with a roasted chilli basting and fries, and a lemon tart milkshake. The burger was well balanced with just enough basting, sauce and toppings. The fries were perfect. The milkshake tasted like lemon meringue with a hint of lime. It could have been a bit thicker though.
The portions are generous and filling. At R80 for the burger and R40 for the milkshake, it's much pricier than other fast food outlets but the quality is much better too.

Give them a try and let me know what you think.

#burger #fries #milkshake #thebutcherswife @ The Butcher's Wife - Pizzas, Pastas & Grills

Steaks are excellent!!! Please get a larger venue. The small venue deters us from coming as there is never space & we end up driving past your business.

Update 9 feb 2018: bought a burger with chilli basting, cheese and pineapple lastnight and patty had a “wild” terrible taste even though it had chilli basting. Called in and the manager just tried to reassure me that there was nothing wrong with it because the meat supplier is pickers meat centre(i already knew that because they own the place). Kind of puts me off from going there again.

weneva we go, we feel good... they are too friendly, service is so nice and good... they are so co-operative... there food is so delicious...

Good vibe, great food. Well worth the drive. During busy periods getting a table takes a few minutes. Fillet steak, Peanut butter milkshake, cheese cake....all winner's.

Service very poor and no management.
Waiters don’t know what’s going on. Waited over and hour for a table and no service. The food Came a while later as well. Very poor

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I honestly didn't expect much as it is in my home area, there's a tendency to over charge for "good quality" foods in my area. The prices were very reasonable although I do feel the portions could be slightly bigger. I loved the variety of the menu and everything we ordered was done well! The classic burger, crumbled mushroom starter, chicken Alfredo and the bolognaise which was mine. I love that you can add extra cheese to your pasta if you're in the daring mood. Next time I would love to try their steaks. Looked very good from what I saw. The crumbled mushrooms were amazing and the wait wasn't too long. I also do wish they had more/better seating. I was also surprised they stocked my favourite juices, the juice box juices. This place was really great! We need to support more local owned businesses like this. I really wish them nothing but success in future and hope they can continue to be innovative and realistic with their menu options.
Danielle Mc Pherson
The customer service here is really poor. Only 2 tables (out of 7 or 8) were occupied when we arrived. We were 3 people and requested to sit at a table that was probably meant to seat 4 people. But were told that we had to sit at what looked to me as a two seater or "we could sit by four seater but we will be moved if a group of four pitches us". Food is average. Luckily Wembley is just around the corner.

One of the better places around cape town
Been there numerous never disappoints... and why do I need to type 140 characters just post a review 😑

Been here a couple of times, love the food and milkshakes and all, BUT the service was not so great. The business is owned by Muslims so it attracts Muslims and no thats not my complaint, My complaint is that 2 out of the 3 times I've been there my mom and I walked in before Muslim couple...and they were always helped first, while my mom and I (both with tattoos) get starred at. Then you have to seat yourself .. you do not get greeted or seated.. you then seat yourself and your menu's get dropped on your table with your waiter still not greeting you. The service I get at places are usually "hi how are you" at least. My advice is, do not go here if you are in a shorts or have tattoos. Still lovely milkshakes but this place REALLY needs to work in their customer service...

Fully halaal . Excellent food excellent presentation delicious milkshakes. Worth the money and the wait. No smoking good with kids or a quiet moment

I've been here on more than one occasion and have never been let down. The staff is friendly and the food is great!
The chicken burger was good, but nothing is better than the ribs! Definitely worth it and will not disappoint you.

This is the worst lasagne I have ever had. It is soggy and tasteless. The lasagne is little pieces of pasta, it isn't layered. I don't think the owners of this shop wood eat their own lasagne. It's disgusting

Good quality food, yummy milkshakes and lovely atmosphere but quite a gamble to be seated. One should always have a second option in mind as you cannot book a table.

My first attempt failed as I waited more than an hour for a table and was told the waiting time is 20 minutes after each 20 minutes of waiting.

Today, my timing was perfect as there was an open table as we arrived. I found the service to be slow for a small restaurant with few tables and adequate waiters.
Shenel Singh
Little, elegant store located in Belgravia, Athlone, emphasis on "little". The size of the store is super small, and we had to wait for a table, which a lovely family volunteered to move after a while. It was understandable, as it was a Friday afternoon and it is one of the best pizza locations in the Belgravia area.

We arrived as a big group, and was ushered to the table by a friendly waiter. However, the restaurant was so busy that it took us over 10 minutes to get hold of the waiters attention and order our food. The food however, came in a good amount of time. The waiter was however friendly.

There were a variety of orders at our table, ranging from ribs, to chicken wings and steak. I ordered the Primavera pizza and Quatro Formaggio to take away. The primavera pizza was tasty. The crust was thick and crispy crust, which is my absolute favorite type of crust. Personally, I felt that there was far too much basil pesto, but nevertheless, it was good. The Quatro formaggio pizza was by far the most tastiest pizza I've ever tasted, the caramellised onions with four types of cheese on a thick crust was heaven in a box.

The Butchers wife had also the best sweet potato fries; with a crunchy outside and soft interior. I cannot emphasis enough how good the fried were😂
I also had the vanilla milkshake, but felt as if they should have added a little more ice cream.
Overall, the rest of my group really enjoyed their meals, and some even ordered something else from the menu as takeaway.
It is friends and family- friendly spot, and atmosphere was very warm and inviting. Guaranteed, our table was very loud, but our vibe suited the ambience.
With the amount of customers that entered the store and the quality of the food, I highly recommend a bigger venue or multiple avenues.

Fay Daw
Ordered the chicken pizza, with caramelized onions. Second time I ordered this. The first time the pizza was not too bad, but this time it was terrible. I dont know what sauce they put on the base of the pizza, but it tasted like dishwasher. Needless to say the pizza is still in the fridge. No one wants to eat it. Its sad when something starts off so great but over time the quality seems to downgrade.
Ismail Vinoos
I was pleasantly surprised by this place - not your typical "slamse" joint. Breakfast was tasty and filling, not cheap but good value.
I had the Butchers brunch, my wife had the salmon croissant. Food was a bit salty and heavy on garlic for breakfast, but that's a minor gripe. I also would have preferred toast instead of the weird garlic pizza base.
service a bit slow, but not unbearably so. Coffee was good.
Would go again.

Super trendy venue in the Cape Flats area. One of the very few Halal restaurants that not only has a great vibe but amazing food! Space is pretty limited so you would have to come early to get a spot, unfortunately you cannot reserve tables over the weekend.
The food was absolutely amazing!!! Best vegetarian pizza I've had in a long time ( mozzarella, feta, basil pesto, sundried tomato and Rosa tomato)! Aside from that the milkshakes (Chocolate and Banana, peanut butter and honey) were so on point and tasty! In general the food is first class and really great quality. The downfall however the service was below average, we had a very grump waiter and the service was slow.

Improve on your service and you will easily be a 4+ restaurant.
Visited this cosy restaurant today. The fact that it's packed indicates that someone is doing something right. Good food, wide variety on the menu which is awesome and breakfast is served till 12pm which means you don't have to leave your bed in a hurry. Really enjoyed my visit here and the meal was delicious

I've been here twice so far and I love their food. The first time I ordered a burger and it was really good and the portion size was massive I could hardly finish it. The second time I came I had a pizza and was impressed as well as the pizzas are just as amazing. This place never fails. Their fancy milkshakes are tops too 😌 😍. Only downfall is that it is a very tiny place and it's always full. So you kind of have to go early or on a very odd day when it won't be busy or you can even take away. Their prices are very reasonable for their portions. And this is a place I will recommend to anybody! 👌 🍔 🍕

Definitely recommend the cream cheese pizza. It is to die for 😍. Also on one of my visits here, I ordered a mocktail and was not impressed at all. I ordered a mocktail thinking it would come in a glass with lemon, ice and mint leaves like a mocktail should. To my dissapointment, it was just a cool drink in a bottle. I was not impressed at all.

Family lunch on Sunday. What a treat. We had seafood pizza, rump, fillet and chicken burger.

Chicken burger was the star of the show. Like world class, one of the best ever category. Meat was perfectly cooked (medium and medium well) served on a flatbread.

Be warned portions are huge!

Decor warm and inviting. Space is a bit small and you can easily wait a while for a table if you get the timing wrong. We were in early so no problem but others had to wait and a few people didn't stick around.

We grabbed a take away from here last night. For an early Sunday afternoon, it was packed!

They said the order would be ready within 20mins, which took more like 40mins because of a huge carry out order before us.

Got the BBQ chicken wings and roasted chili beef ribs, both came with a hearty portion of chips and a small (medium thickness base) garlic pita.

The lady at the teller mentioned that the ribs they had did not have as much meat as usual, so she increased our 400g option to 600g at no extra cost to make up for this, which I found to be really great service.

The chips are steakhouse cut and pair well with the meat options, some are crispy and some are soft, but they're well cooked. The wings were average in terms of flavor. The chili basting on the ribs was to die for, the best basting I've ever had in my life! The meat however, was extremely tough, like biltong on a bone.

This place is affordable, and the portions are reasonable for what you pay. Highly recommend the chili basting over the BBQ. It has a lovely garlic flavor and is quite similar in taste to Simply Asia's 514.

However the meal did not agree with me this morning and gave me terrible stomach spasms. I can attribute this solely to the meal I ate yesterday as that is the only thing I ate that day 😞

Great flavor but proceed with caution ⛔️

Wellll after all the fuss i had to check it out myself aaand i must say i love the setup its reaaally lovely but otherwise food was "okay" my husband liked his burger but we both could agree that its not exactly the place that made me feel " i have to come again!" While we were there the people behind the counter was arguing the whole time and because of the open plan setup it was actually very disturbing and i dont know about you guys but thats enough to put me off maybe thats why the food just wasnt all that great 👀

Where do I start?

The location is decent and convenient. And albeit small with a very industrial look (which they have deliberately gone for), the restaurant is comfortable, the seating and the atmosphere is also very comfortable.

The food..... ahhh, I would eat here once a week if I lived in CT. I ordered the ribs, which was accompanied by a delicious gralic pita and chips- and the sauces on the side deserve a special mention. I couldnt get over the burst of fresh flavours in the side sauces! When establishments take care with their side items regarded as "free" like the sauces, you know you getting value for money.

My meal was absolutely delicious. Ribs finger licking good, chips perfectly crisp and golden and the pita heavenly. I just loved the flavours welcomed in my mouth.

Absolutely amazing food! Made a special request for just chicken fillet and chips and received a well presented meal even though it was take away! Highly impressed with the Butcher's Wife team! 🙌🏻 I regret not taking a pic! But will def be ordering it again!

I called at 14:15 and was informed the food would arrived 1 hour and 20 mins. The food arrived 16:30 and it was cold and this was after numerous calls to find out how far the driver was. For the amount of money it was definitely not worth waiting for.

Very busy with lovely decor in a bustling location. Ordered a few items from service lady who didn't seem too interested in up selling or explaining much.
I ordered a burger with no basting which was very good, pizzas were not bad but lacked the charm of the place in some way.
Ribs were very nicely presented and a good portion but weren't "fall off the bone" yet which means they were being rushed.
But a definite return as I want to try deserts as well as milk shakes.

Such bad service! The milkshakes are room temperature and tastes like a tub of fresh cream. The pizza base was as thick as a scone and super tough. Also ordered over the phone and called back an hour later only to discover that they 'forgot' about my order and finally got the food 2 hours later. Also would not at all recommend the cheesecake as it tastes like nothing at all.

So I've heard about this place and decided to give it a go as ibwas in the area and hungry. Ordered the beef burger woth onion rings( not caramelised) and cheese. The burger arrives with deep fried battered onion rings( no indication on the menu that this is what i was getting) after chomping that off I bite into the burger, the patty was course, dry and not very beefy. The burger patty from woolies I braaied the night before was better. My Bro ordered the Phillips cheese steak baguette. Which he said was amazing. I also had a peanut butter and banana milkshake and that was really good. My advise don't order the classic beef burger. Place has an awesome feel to yhe interior though. So it's nice to sit down. I might go back and try the prego steak burger

I went here on a public holiday, expecting it to be quite busy and it was. When we arrived, the waitress looked quite flustered about where to seat us and kind of squeezed us into a corner table - which was quite uncomfortable, and when we asked to move to a slightly bigger (empty) table our waitress told us that we could not sit there because it seats 6, not 4. The lighting above some of the tables is also too bright and the ambiance isn't great.

That being said, our actual waiter was really friendly and accommodating, and repeated our order a couple of times to make sure he got it right.

The food was served within 15 minutes but unfortunately our burgers were lukewarm... but because the restaurant was super busy and we struggled to get attention from a waitron, we just decided to eat it anyway.

I ordered the chicken fillet burger with a mixture of the BBQ and roasted chilli basting sauces.
We also ordered a beef burger, also with a mixture of the BBQ and roasted chilli basting sauces.
Lastly we ordered a medium baked chicken and mushroom pasta.

All the meals were extremely filling and tasty - I didn't even feel the need for condiments with my burger, and could barely finish my chips (and I have a very good appetite)! The meals were hearty and had that "homemade" quality to them.

I think most of the little problems I had with the restaurant was because they were extremely busy tonight, but I'd love to come again during the week or during the day to give them another shot and try some of the other items on their extensive menu.

I'm from the northern suburbs and heard great things from ppl. I was short on time but in the area so called 0216962007 and placed an order for a pizza for collection with my cell number. On arriving they had no order and the manager and the other 2 staff denied taking the order. No apology they just put the order through and I had to wait. I got late for work. It's not acceptable service.

A hidden gem in Athlone! I usually dread coming this side of the world but The Butcher's Wife made the trip well worth it.

TBW is situated in a busy road and it's easy to miss. I was headed to the butchery next door when the restaurant caught my eye.

The decor is very moody, rustic and hipster - which is the perfect combination when you're feeling a bit adventurous. The restaurant is completely halal too (score!).

I had the riblets & chips and a mango shake - it was so yum! The portion size was amazing for the price point, definitely value for money. They have pizzas for days and do pastas and grills as well.

The service was also really great. My food came in about 10 minutes, no jokes.

A great experience over all, another amazing solo lunch 🍴

Yesterday I had a classic burger with chilli basting - The Butcher's Wife is solid and her husband must be a satisfied man. When you pay R70 for a burger and chips the bar is set quite high - for this price you could get flagship meals at Burger King, Steers and the cardboard specialists MacD's but none them come close to TBW. It all comes down to the patty which is hand made and fresh - kinda like what I imagine those American burgers on the Food Channel to taste like. For those who are tired of the mechanically engineered and optimized franchise burger TBW is truelly refreshing.

I must admit that it's not the perfect meal though. The chips are a bit soggy and the roll to patty synergy can get sloppy which is expected from this type of burger composition. The meal doesn't come with drink which impacts the value for money factor. At the end of the day this meal won't leave a fully grown, hungry adult completely full or bloated but rather satisfied (and craving a few more bites).

Bottom line, this is a must try for anyone looking for good burger in the 7764. Solid.

Beautiful decor and a buzzing ambience. However, they're very busy on weekends so you may struggle to find a seat or have to wait a while for one.

The food is DELECTABLE!!!!! The portion sizes are generous & real value of money. I had the lamb riblets which had 2 different flavours of marinade both of which was delicious and sticky. The meal comes with chips and a garlic pita/pizza. The brownie was also very yummy. Would definitely recommend this place.

No parking problem as there is a parking lot across the road.

It was my 2nd time here today. As always, I was really excited about the decor. It's really good to know that there's a yummy place with a retro vibe in Athlone !

We ordered pizzas, a burger and shakes. My first option was a pizza with avo. I was really disheartened bc they didnt have avos. I then had to opt for another pizza. My pizza had sweet chilli in it and I'm not much of a fan (I somehow didn't see it had sweet chilli In when I ordered) 🙈. It would have tasted way better had I liked sweet chilli. I really enjoyed my friend's cream cheese n chicken pizza.

The chicken burger was devine and was really big.

I had a caramel popcorn shake. It was fantastic, however I'd have liked to see more popcorn pieces in the shake.
The presentation is trendy and upto standard.
I'd definitely return here. The butchers wife never disappoints and my friends loved it too.

Please note, do not follow the directions on Zomato as it leads you to the wrong place. 😂 This restaurant is next to Wembley. What a gem ! So happy i was adamant on coming here. The food is delicious. I tried the cheesy steak baguette. It's like a mini gatsby, but better. So much cheeeeese and who can go wrong with steak man ? It did lack slightly in flavour but they do give you sauce and garlic to add to your dish. My person tried the chicken burger. That chicken is grilled and basted to perfection. It's not dry at all. I wasn't too keen on the latte, it was strong and came at the same time as the food which we waited a while for, but the waitress did say she's still learning to make lattes so it's okay. The decor is gorgeous and rustic as you can see in the pics. Pretty place, a bit small, and they packed the outside table I was sitting at away at 3 o clock so don't know what was up with that. I enjoyed myself and look forward to trying more of this menu.

I was almost worried that we weren't going to get a seat for lunch and we were just about to walk out when the manager called us back and told us the waiting period won't be that long and then took my husbands number down in case a seat opened up.
The decor is very modern and I liked the blue feature wall with the chalk board menus. Be sure to check out the chalk boards on the other walls as well for new additions to the menu especially milkshakes and the prego steak burger.
I had the lamb chops with chilli basting and hubby wanted steak but there wasn't any on the menu so decided to ask the waiter anyway and she told him that they do have a few cuts available so he went with the rump steak with chilli basting. Both dishes were so tasty and we thoroughly enjoyed them. To drink I opted for the new caramel popcorn milkshake and hubby for the oreo. I totally loved the caramel popcorn flavour.
Overall, a delicious meal and service wasn't too bad either so a pleasant experience. Will definitely be back to try some other pasta or pizza options on the menu.

Thought I'd try something different to Bin Rashied and I must add it was different.

We ordered for takeaway, the place is really small so it's probably not a good idea to eat in as it looked rather full and kind of cramped.

I ordered a Spicy Prawn & Masala steak. Which was both very nice, I like really thin base pizza and this was in between thin & medium. So it's actually filling!
The prices are very reasonable.
The prawns was great and steak is cut up in tiny pieces which I did not fancy.

The cashier was extremely polite & very helpful when it came to decision making as it was my first time. Great plug points if you need to charge up your devices.

Im defs going back to explore the menu.

One of the very few halaal places id visit again. We order ribs and wings and it was so good. The ribs were juicy and the wings had a sauce that complimented it so well. Both were served with naan bread and chips. Definitely value for money

My husband and I came in on a Saturday night and since it was so full decided to order takeout. There are three tills. One was really busy with customers. One was on the phone all the time. And one was just standing in front of her till. Wow. Can I just say it's awesome to stand at a counter and be ignored by the waitress for 10 minutes. I was a bit annoyed because if she was too busy to help, she could've taken one second to look at us and say "sorry, I can't help you here, please use the next till" but instead we were ignored and then another waitress came over and whispered in her ear, they giggled and walked away. Wow. So we went to the next till as she wasn't helping customers anymore.

The food is REALLY tasty. I had the chicken burger with chilli basting and my husband had the cheesy steak melt. I've tasted their alfredo and philly cheese steak as well and it was also very tasty. The only bummer is the milkshakes. The strawberry milkshakes are the same as Wembley Roadhouse except the container is smaller and it's topped with this sweet, thick cream (think it's bakery cream) that ruins the milkshake for me. We waited 45 minutes for our food but it's understandable as it was a really busy night and it's nothing when you're accustomed to Wembley times (lol).

I would've rated this place higher because the food is really good but because the customer service left a bad taste in my mouth, I'm giving it this score.

Apparently st elmos had a makeover , well by the looks of it its not really a makeover but more a complete change of restaurant by the owners of the St Elmos franchisee. They serve pizzas and pastas of course but also burgers , wings and ribs and desserts and coffees of course. It's a quaint little restaurant , what I mean is its small like 30 pax. What I didn't understand though is why wait 45mins for such a small restaurant. Anyways let's start with the negatives. When it's hot , you are bound to have the sun shine in your eyes and hitting you hard with no escape. Service is snail pace but very friendly. Positives . Food is decent though. I had ribs and wife had chops , it's served with pita. Why? I don't know adding something extra that's not really good makes no real sense. I came for ribs and fries , give me ribs and fries. Instead I got decent ribs , nice fries and a pita thing that when cold just gets hard . The nice thing about this place is the price R59 for ribs and R99 for chops. Very reasonable or may I say cheap. Keep the food standards and get rid of the pita and You will do well. It's halaal so that helps too

Decided to try this place out earlier today. I wasn't expecting much but the place was pretty cute and had a bootleggers/Seattle coffee vibe about it. We had the sweetest waitress from whom we ordered a medium pizza and a beef burger as well as peanut butter and coffee milkshakes.

Waseem enjoyed his pizza thoroughly and my burger was gigantic although I feel it would've been better had I ordered BBQ basting instead of chili which lacked flavour. It's really worth it at the price!

I ordered a take out tikka chicken baguette but could not eat it at all. My food was drenched in garlic and it was not edible at all. I tried calling today but they were closed but I'll definitely let them know tomorrow

Ordered a takeaway - wings (comes on a garlic pita base with chips), baked pasta and Oreo shake. Was better than expected, will defs order from them again soon :)

Food is good and place is modern and retro. Concept of the Butchers Wife is amazing. I will leave you with this tho. Don't expect amazing service, when I come to a place to sit down I expect to be given adequate service if that can't be guaranteed then don't offer a sit down. If you can master good service your place of business would be fulfilled.

Pleasantly surprised by this new branding. The decor is modern and retro at the same time!

Came here to try their burgers and I had a chicken burger which was flame grilled to perfection and my partner had the beef burger. He thoroughly enjoyed his burger. I am not big on beef but when I had some of his my etched view of red meat had altered!

Waiting time was a bit long as people who came in after we arrived, received their food before we did. The manager however was very friendly and apologetic which subsided the 45 minute irritation that was brewing!

(We ordered takeaway so was not able to take any photos)

I like this place. Cute name, enthusiastic staff, value-for-money burgers and pizzas-- what's there not to like😄! Passed there on my way home and grabbed a take-away chicken wings with roast chilli paste and a lovely fresh Greek salad. The garlic pita was a perfect accompaniment- yum!
I'm always on the look out for really good halaal burgers. So when I heard that the St Elmo's underwent a rebrand and became The Butcher's Wife, I had to try the burger to see if it was any good.

First impressions, I really like the rebrand. The decor and interior look very cool and sophisticated. Presentation of everything I had was also really nice.

I had the beef burger on the menu (there is only one), I also ordered a few extras (avo, cheese and caramelized onions). Overall the burger was good, a bit on the messy side. The extras are crazily overpriced - the three extras I ordered were almost as much as a burger!

P.S. the chicken burger is better than the beef one.
