Di-vi-ne. Absolutely love this gem in Observatory. From its opening, I have genuinely always enjoyed their food. Today was exceptional and hence this review. Ordered chicken strips (in coconut crumb); home-made dip; sweet potato fries; and a side salad for delivery. The food is so good, I'm actually going to consider this a weekly treat.
I ordered a vegan burger on Mr Delivery from Cocoa Cha Chi. It was unbelievable, it came with sweet ass potato fries. I dreamt about it so I decided to take my best mate with me to visit the little restaurant in Observatory and I ordered more sweet potato fries and I was still satisfied. The service was nice, it’s super young and quiet and unique. Please visit !
Cake was fresh, spongey and delicious. The hot chocolate was up there with the best, and service was friendly. Good atmosphere here too. This is one of my go-to cake spots.
Had a delicious creamy sun dried tomato and chicken pasta dish. Very well prepared and quite delicious. Would definitely try it again. Great service they were very patient and we didn't have to wait very long to receive our food.
Have been driving past this hidden gem and am glad I stopped over for breakfast. A beautiful, peaceful outdoor setting at the back of the restaurant; inviting positive energy and light into the restaurant.
Had an omelette filled with mince, onions, cheese, served with ciabatta toast. My sister had scrambled eggs on toast topped with cheese...just the way she likes them. The staff members were professional and prompt to our requests (they gave us adequate time by ourselves as well).
The service isn't the best. Their food is Ok. The one thing that keeps me going back (usually for a take away) is the chocolate cake. I'm very fussy when it comes to cake. This is the only place I buy chocolate cake from. The icing is good and the cake is moist. Definitely recommend it.

Have always loved having breakfast at Coco Cha Chi. The ambiance is warm and inviting during the winter with gas heaters and the smell of freshly baked goods. During summer you can enjoy the sun in the courtyard surrounded by vertical garden and a trickling fountain. Great place to camp out and do some work if you're a freelancer. Try the dirty chai!
This is the best little restaurant I have ever been too. It is my favorite place on Earth their choc mint crusher and cakes are absolute bliss. Cool hangout for students and wifi access :) great place to meet and catch up. If you're ever in Cape Town make this one of your stops 💜
Came here this afternoon for the first time. It was fairly empty but had a nice relaxed vibe. I had the chocolate cake which was really nice and tasted homemade which is always a winner in my books. It was also a very big slice. I also had the chai latte which was pretty good. The cake was R48 a slice which I thought is slightly on the expensive side seeing that it's a student hang out and nothing too fancy.
A great hangout spot with a quaint outdoor area. Perfect for coffee or lunch with friends and even better for a date. Absolute favorite from here is their dark and white chocolate cookie with ice cream. A bit pricey but I keep coming back for their desserts (they're sandwiches and pizzas are great too!)
Recently tried their Monday night R49 pasta special, tasted the Chicken, tomato and chili chorizo pasta and their vegetarian pesto broccoli pasta. It was quite tasty and very filling. Definitely a great deal!
One of the most beautiful restaurants in Observatory. The atmosphere and ambiance of this place is just Amazing 👌. Good and organic food here, and their freshly squeezed juices are incredible, not to mention their carrot cakes...
I loved the double chicken burger, and had sweet potato fries as a side. I love the fact that sweet potato fries have been introduced as a side. However, they're super salty because of the salt added. For future reference please can you not add salt and let that be an option for customers. My boyfriend had the club sandwich and it was amazing but his potato chips were excessively salty, so much so that he had to dust the salt off. The service was great though
Definitely my favourite of the Cocoa restaurants. This outlet offers a unique outdoor courtyard experience with beautiful hanging baskets and vines.
The service here is also a lot better than the Rondebosch outlet specifically, and the wifi connection is a lot more stable as well.
I've eaten here a few times, but during my most recent visit I had a 'chicken, blue cheese, wine and cream' pasta - It was fantastic, but the portion size is outrageously small for the price (R95).
Actually, I was expecting a dingy little spot, but this branch of Cocoa turned out to be really cosy and quaint. The interior and outdoors seating area is quite rustic and beautiful in an organic way! I loved the greenery on the wall and all the little unique additions to the outside!
The service was chilled (excuse my use of colloquial language :D), but I have no other way to describe it. Very laid-back atmosphere and pleasant waiters.
I ordered some fries and a sandwich. I even placed an order for a second round of fries because I enjoyed it so much! The sandwich was good, but the bread was a little dry and didn't seem too fresh. The hot chocolate was really comforting.
I would love to come back here if the occasion so arises.
I fall in love with this little place every time I go there. The outside courtyard is splendid, the plant walls are my favourite. They serve breakfast all day- their eggs benedict is top notch. They have a pasta special on a Monday. Their burgers are excellent AND they have a happy hour from 5-6pm with R15 glasses of wine or R25 for a double G&T. Their music is always awesome too. One of my favourite Obs Spots.

Best burgers in town!! That blue cheese beef burger is an absolute foodgasm. I think I've found my favourite spot in Cape Town & their service was thoroughly impressive considering our food arrived in less than 10 & it was THAAT GREAT. This might just be an every month thing💕
Weekend brunch place with chill vibes.. Loved their Chococino and the super indulgent Chocolate chip flapjacks. The service was nice and the food was great though a bit pricey for a cafe. Their chicken burger is one of the best iv had! Overall a great spot!
I love the layout and outside area of Cocoa Cha Chi. My friend and I enjoyed some chai latte and their amazing sticky toffee flapjacks as we were looked after, because of their great service!
Cocoa cha Chi is a great place for breakfast on a sunny morning when you can sit in the outdoor garden and relax. Their breakfasts are rally good and there's quite a bit of variety. Their eggs benedict with added smoked salmon is delicious. When it comes to their other food I find it very average when it comes to the taste and heavily overpriced, especially the pizzas. Their Monday night 2 for 1 special on pasta is very decent as well. Their cakes are good and are usually fresh. Their pancake stacks are a bit of a treat for those with a sweet tooth, the chocolate ones are the best. Service however has always been a bit of a problem whenever I have been there as waiters forget orders, take extremely long to bring bills and even place orders.
I've only ever been to Cocoa Wah Wah in Rondebosch, so I was surprised to find out that they had one in Obs. It was a very pleasant surprise because the set up and vibe is just so much better! We were seated outside and they were relatively busy. Our visit was specially to try out the lemon and poppyseed cake which my friend claims is the best cake, and I can confirm that it was delicious. The pizza was also made quite well. They have quite a number of things to choose from on their menu which makes it a perfect place for breakfast, lunch or tea. One of the waitresses wasn't very welcoming but that didn't affect our experience greatly.
Coco Cha Chi has been my favorite breakfast joint for ages. I feel like they do breakfast properly - there's eggs, there's bacon, there's hollandaise sauce and all in interesting varieties. The Wah Wah Wonderful and Supreme are my favorite. Also recommend for a good coffee spot - with a cookie the size of your face with a liquid chocolate centre on the side.

Many of my experiences at this restaurant have been pleasant. Their chocolate cake is absolutely heavenly. Not the greatest place for happy hour as they have limited selection of drinks. Also their R45 breakfast special is incredibly student friendly and yummy as well :)
What a pleasant surprise! We were on the hunt for breakfast spots in Woodstock and Obz when we discovered Cocoa Cha Chi. The Eggs Benedict is so lekker, and the restaurant has an awesome homey feeling. The menu is very good and there are plenty of options for all preferences.
I come here quite often and the staff are always really friendly. Some of the best coffee there is, can be found here. Delicious food and great vibes! Keep it up!
Good place to go for a drink after work (happy hour from 5-6pm every day). Delicious carrot cake. Service level varies. Best of all they are dog friendly. We come here all the time with our pooch. Lovely courtyard.
Great and friendly service :) I got the veggie burger with extra mozzarella and avo as well as a carafe of sangria 👌🏼Bit quiet but maybe it's because it's a week night. Cool branding and decor.
Adore the Hot cocoa. Cute little spot for a quick coffee and dessert. Service was quick and friendly for a Saturday night although it was quite empty. The coffee crush is also great here.
Just had a takeaway cheese burger and chips and WOW! What a delicious filling burger! Don't change a thing! I don't think you can get this value for money anywhere down the road.
Always a good place to go to for a cheap breakfast before varsity or for a sweet afternoon snack. Prices are good and the staff are always friendly.
Had lunch here yesterday. Delicious cocktails and food was nice. Service could have been a little bit better. More attention to detail would have been appreciated e.g. Condiments with our pizzas (chili, Parmesan, garlic). That being said, our waiter did try make a plan when we asked for it which was appreciated, although it was obvious by the garlic and Parmesan that we got that that it's not a usual thing. But, I can say that I'll be going there again.
This is a great little place that feels homely. The staff are nice and very humble about their great outlet. The peri peri chicken burger is divine!
This place has a lot of stuff going for it. Besides being just down the rode from one of our offices, they have great specials. The breakfast special gets you coffee and one of the signature breakfasts for under R40 (the hummus and eggs is excellent), while the happy hours (weekdays from 5-6) gets you a large glass of house wine (two oceans) for R15 or a Jack Black draft for R20. We come here often for these deals and particularly enjoy sitting outside in the garden on warm days.
Amazing chai latte! Even comes with a little cookie and some cocoa sprinkled on top. The array of deserts is incredible. Everyone will want a desert when they see the table next to them indulging!

Had a lovely brunch here, and the service was impeccable. Very quaint, and pretty. Like sitting in someone's backyard, but in the best way! Food was good, drinks were even better.
My fiancé and I very accidentally found this quaint little spot and let me tell you, it was the find of the century! Best place for cozy breakfasts on cold days, complimented by excellent service and friendly staff. We have yet to try the amazing lunch and drink specials, but after our first experience I am sure we won't be disappointed. Definitely a winner spot in my books
This is the go-to place for my friends and I! The atmosphere outside definitely beats the interior--it feels warm, welcoming and cozy. The lining of plants along the wall with the background noise of running water creates the perfect ambiance for a nice lunch or dinner.
I would say definitely try any of their crushes! Also, their dessert selection of cakes has always hit the spot. Their burgers and pizza are also delicious but not something I would pick Cocoa Cha Chi over another restaurant for.
The hours they have really suit my lifestyle as well. On nights that I want to go out to eat with my friends and stay out a bit later (without having to go to a bar) Cocoa Cha Chi is definitely the place to go.
I didn't give this place higher than a 3.5 star because the service (more often than not) is pretty terrible. The servers and general manager are extremely nice but more than a handful of times I have gotten my order wrong. So be sure to speak up if they bring out a wrong plate!
Oh my goodness is the food delish or what!!!! This is a very cute little set up, I go here for lunch quite often and every time my food tastes better!!! Service can be better, but well done to the chefs - only reason I go back, food is great. Some goodies are a little pricey but all worth it.
I've never ordered anything I didn't like from Cocoa Cha Chi. Their grilled chicken burger, pizza, fried wedges with wasabi mayo, chocolate flapjacks, apple berry tart, and crushes are are PHENOMENAL. So tasty, satisfying, and well portioned. That being said, the wait staff there don't necessarily always bring you what you order. I've ordered a Chocochino crush and been given a Cocoa crush, or ordered a hot Hazelnut Cocoa and been brought a Dirty Chai...so sometimes you're just going to be given something you didn't ask for and you're forced to deal with it. But I mean, the upside is that it's usually tasty anyway...
ALSO THEY HAVE LOYALTY CARDS so if you're addicted like me, ask for one.
Lovely setting and a divine breakfast. Perfect morning spot on a sunny day. Avo on my breakfast was still hard but otherwise it was great.
Absolutely love this place. Their chocolate flapjacks and chocolate cookie with ice cream are absolutely amazing and their cakes tasty and soft. Both their cold and hot drinks are tasty. The atmosphere is chilled and relaxing, their staff welcoming and the service really good. One of the things I love most about this place is the atmosphere. I feel like its a great place to hang out with some friends but equally welcoming to those wanting to just have a cup of coffee and read a book. I've even opted to do some academic work there before.
Fantastic breakfast spot, especially for summer.
I've visited Cocoa Cha Chi in Obs a few times now and I struggle to go anywhere else in the area for breakfast now! The general consensus among friends is that the service is not the best, but the food more than compensates. I personally love the croissants, though the French toast is apparently also a win. Lovely outside area, killer smoothies.
Think I'll go there again this weekend actually!
I love it there! Awesome atmosphere. Amazing food! And those loyalty cards have got me back every week for a coffee chocolate crusher!
Always a lovely place for cosy conversations, good Chai latte and a light snack. Beautiful ambience in the hub of the students village.
Great hide out spot away from the buzz to enjoy a bit of tranquility accompanied by snippets of good food and drinks
Seriously hidden away in Obs, had it not been for my friend who lives around the corner I doubt I would have discovered this spot. This place make one of the best smoothies around and never gets it wrong with the eggs. Dog friendly and cosy, it's a great place for a quick breakie or lazy lunch. Service is much to be desired but the food is tasty, well flavoured and comforting,
