The most amazing space filled with pieces of art and trinkets that take you back in time, food that is so fresh and so full of flavour. And the most kind, beyond amazing, exceptional staff.
We just enjoyed a delicious lunch at The Kitchen, great service by the gentleman who helped us too
Fantastic ambiance, excellent, tasty food. Great spot for lunch, come early or you'll be disappointed.
Fantastic friendly caring staff - lovely ambiance and hearty generosity in every mouthful !
Absolutely lovely food..havnt tasted such good salads in a while...highly recommended...nice atmosphere...
I live pretty close to Woodstock and I’m always on the prowl for a new breakfast/brunch spot.
The cafe itself is very charming, bookshelves as far as the eye can see - little trinkets and antique bits and bobs add to the personality.
It was a bit confusing as no one told us we had to order the food and drinks at the 2 separate counters but pay the barista. So we sat around waiting for 20 minutes before anyone who worked there said anything.
I had the Creamy Dreamy Eggs with wilted spinach and my sister had the Turkish Breakfast. We tasted each other’s choices and hers was better by far! The falafel, poached eggs, hummus and a little salsa were amazing.
Before we left we noticed that they had just cut up freshly baked lemon squares and “World Peace” brownies. We had them on the drive home and wished we had bought more. To our surprise they only cost R10
A lovely brunch spot - will definitely go back
Just popped in for a quick salad as I've heard so much about this place. Had the take away 5 deal and my mind melted. Didn't realize salads could be this good.
I LOVE the kitchen! I cannot day a bad thing. The food is always delicious, the atmosphere is fabulous and I was blown away. Such an asset to the best suburb in Cape Town, Woodstock!
If I could eat at any place everyday for the rest of my life, it would most definitely be The Kitchen 💚 the most delicious, mouth watering salad options (which change all the time), with or without protein options for you guys working on the gains! Highly highly recommend this place... my mouth is watering just talking about their food 😊
One of the best places to eat by far , food was amazing , especially the carrot and mint salad , amazing amazing amazing !!! Friendly staff , with an even better vibe !!!! I wouldn’t mind going back countless of times!!!
Vegetarian’s dream. Great variety of buffet-style salads to choose from, all 4 options I had were delicious. Service is excellent and the coffee was roasted to perfection. Will definitely be back.
Fresh, creative and delicious salads!
This restaurant is tiny, and if you're lucky you can get a spot at one of the tables outside on the road, which makes for some very interesting lunch entertainment.
You pay for either a selection of 3 or 5 salads, but no matter what you choose your plate is always piled high with deliciousness.
There is always a protein option, be it gammon, meatballs or coronation chicken, though I have never felt the need to add a protein.
Get their cookbook, the recipes are amazing and inspiring.
First visit and I was not disappointed. So much to select from, staff helpful and very polite. Food was fresh and delish. I had the 5 salad plate and didn't think if finish it but I did 😄👍 will be back with family and friends. Highly recommended.
Good ambience, quick ready made food, good variety. Worth a visit. It's like a mini food lovers market with a good vibe. Not a cheap meal but worth it.
Vibrant, pretty little spot. The space has been used in a clever way, emphasing the charm of the old Woodstock building. Interesting concept of choosing 3 or 5 salads from a buffet. There are some meat extras that can be added for the omnivores. Some more fresh/lettuce-y salad options would've been nice.
Popped in at The Kitchen in sir lowry road woodstock. The love sandwich @R65 hit the spot. Gammon, lettuce, pesto, gherkins and some mustard magic mayo sauce thing... Amazing. Friendly service, friendly staff despite the shop being hotter than a oven
Yum yum yum, this place is amazing, perfect for a quick lunch stop, deliciously tasty and unique to me as I haven't been to something with this concept other than food lovers market :)
It's all about choices here and that's what I love! The menu isn't very big which makes life easy for an indecisive person like me.
The food is extremely tasty, it's fresh, the portion size and toppings are great and you get what you pay for. You'll leave here with a full belly without feeling ripped off!
The vibe is quite busy and fast paced, decor is very cluttered but suites the feel of what they are wanting to create. Staff are quick, helpful and friendly.
Worth a try for that quick bite to eat if you're in the area... only negative... good luck finding parking
Love the fact that this spot is across the road from my office! I often grab lunch here, delicious roast chicken breasts and salads galore - all of them equally delicious. Their honey-mustard glazed pork sausages are out of this world. Always bustling during lunch, lovely friendly casual energy. Really honest food - my favourite.
I own the cookbook and absolutely love the style of meal you get from the kitchen. Fuss-free, goodness-infused and flavoursome. The myriad of salads and the curried potato salad were some of my favorites. A must-see!
Quick and casual, perfect for a day you forget to pack in lunch! I would recommend the famous 'lunchboxes'. Such value for money, and very tasty!
Love!!!! 💜 quick dine or takeouts; pick your own combinations of nutritious vegetables and salads; and of course there are luring baked treats! My favourite though, is biting into their chicken sandwiches when they've set up at The Old Biscuit Mill over the weekend! To die for and worth the lines!!!😍😍
I love when food is prepared freshly and with fresh ingredients, and The Kitchen scores a 10/10 for that. The food is also super yummy and you can pop in everyday and be sure that you'll find something new to try. The staff is friendly and offered to put together a breakfast for us this one time.
Amazing variety of salads - what's not to love! Be sure to try a love sandwich and remember to arrive early as seating is limited.
I make a point of visiting The Kitchen whenever I'm in CT! The lunch buffet is winning with a wide variety of veggie options. I've never been disappointed!
OH MAN! The Kitchen is just as brilliant as everyone says. Obama made the right choice by eating here. I had a selection of salads, and each one was perfection. I love the quick, casual service style and old-school decor. The restaurant is a true example of food being the hero, with no fuss or frills. It might be a problem that it's located just a few metres from my office... because sadly a Kitchen salad will set you back a little. I say it's WORTH IT.
The kitchen - a place that may remind you of your grandmothers kitchen. A place where the coffee is hot and the food wholesome. I love this quaint little place - the food changes on a daily basis. Always good! Not open on weekends!
Stopped here for a breakfast by chance and so glad I did. The atmosphere is great, with friendly service and a relaxed but efficient vibe. The food was delicious. Would definitely recommend and will return.

The kitchen is one of those places that you absolutely just have to visit. If you are s salad person (like me) then their salad selection that you're allowed to choose from will be about as exciting as Christmas.
I used to go there far too often for lunch, because I loved how quick, convenient and healthy it was. I always went for the salads, because salads. But for any bread eaters out there, they make love sandwiches which are like a hug between two pieces of bread. I highly recommend you give it a try, grab a friend and go for lunch - sit down if you are lucky enough to grab a spot, or brave the car guards and pop in for a quick, easy take away.
Two friend's of mine, on separate occasions gave me The Kitchen cook books - so clearly there's something in that.
This place makes the most delicious salads. I usually get the small box for R50 which is any choice of 4 salads. The combinations of ingredients are always surprising and tasty!!! Not the boring stuff that you see everywhere. It's always packed and busy during lunch time so I usually just buy takeaway. Would like to go there one day to sit because it looks like a really cute place with a nice vibe. You really feel like you're in Karen Dudley's kitchen!
Came here today during lunch hour peak, service was quick and the sandwiches are AMAZING.
Had a grilled chicken sandwich which came with a crazy variety of toppings. Eat here.
Gosh I love this place. So cute, so homey, and just so friendly. Fantastic respite on a cold winters day, and a lovely destination on a hot summer afternoon.
Every time I go - I know, I'm so predictable! - I get the love sandwich with chicken and feta. Honestly, I don't know how they do it! All the ingredients are just so fresh and work so well together. Those sandwiches have gotten me through some long days, and the added bonus of such an adorable atmosphere and delicious desserts is incomparable. I've taken many friends here, and many of them get the salad bar and are always really pleased and full upon leaving. Karen Dudley really got this place right.
The pros: Just everything! So cute, so tasty, so full of life. Really great and friendly service.
The cons: It can be really crowded around noon. Understandable though, as it's just so good!
The kitchen has got to be on your "Must do restaurants" in Cape Town. Founded and run by Karen Dudley - author and professional home cook - who has a heart and passion for simple tasty food. The restaurant is small and offers salad style foods in which you pick 5 veg and a protein - a really difficult task when all the produce looks amazing! The ladies who run The Kitchen are absolute fun and make the whole experience. Aim for a 12h00 lunch if you're heading here. It's worth every Rand.
Ps if you decided against the salad style menu go for the famous love sandwich.
Famous for the love sandwich but so many other delicious salads and sweets. Might have to wait a while and struggle to find a seat during a bustling lunch time. However, the food is honest, generous and well worth the wait.
Very nice little place in Woodstock. The decoration is really warm and cozy with a lot of details that will make you smile.
The staff is super nice, guided me through the whole proccess as it was my first time. The ingredients are top fresh, the bread delicious and the quantity is quite abundant.
I had the chicken sandwich and my mouth was already watering while I was seeing the cook cuting the slices (chunks) of chicken.
A must go for a quick meal.

Absolutely stunning environment and food that made my day 🌷 worth the long line and wait to get the best aromas and flavours you wouldnt imagine working together
Most amazing, unique, exciting salads u will ever try. Everything is made with love and care. Their love sandwiches are named perfectly. ...never had a sandwich close to as good. Karen is always around adding joy and life, and the ladies always so sweet!
Absolutely love this divine little spot! The freshest, tastiest selection of food that has been made with love and passion by the wonderful Karen Dudley. Be sure to pop past here when you're in need of nourishment for the food and soul. What I love is that Karen is always around welcoming her patrons and serving up her food with love and the biggest smile. A Cape Town must!
Delicious, nutritious selection of salads and sandwiches made with love and passion from Karen Dudley's quirky Woodstock shop, famously fraternised by First Lady Michelle Obama.
Loved it! Home cooked, healthy meals, fresh veggies... what else could one ask for. Get there early, the place gets packed! Choose between 10+ salads, different meats, falafel with hummus... they're also know for their famous Love sandwich (which I'll be trying next time). I personally loved the beetroot with cinnamon, the barley salad, and the fresh rocket with avo. It's hard to get a seat outside but the small terrace appears to be quite comfortable. And to top it off, the girls behind the counter were most friendly, especially given the lunch rush :-) See you soon!
Today the wind blew me into Karen Dudley's Kitchen on Sir Lowry Road. It was packed with a crowd as colourful as the food. And just to make me feel as if it is the kind of place "where everybody knows your name", I bumped into some friends who are on holiday here from London. And that is Karen's philosophy in a nutshell, Food and Friendship. I'm not surprised that they know about The Kitchen in London, after all, even Michelle Obama has been a customer! I opted for a Love Sandwich of aubergine and feta. At first I winched at the thought of R60 for a sandwich, but it was worth every taste bursting mouthful. Copies of Karen's two recipe books were also flying out the door. You don't have to wait for the Cape Doctor to blow you away, just go to The Kitchen.
All salads come from the kitchen. They get visas and travel to other restaurants where they lose a bit of their style, flavor and originality. The salads here are so good they are otherworldly. Transcendental. Delicious. Addictive. If you’re just passing through the city looking for a cheap thrill, you must be prepared to move here and have lunch daily. Did I also mention the coffee is good and the people are kind?
First day of opening for 2020 and I was the first customer. Really friendly and helpful staff. Energetic Karen the owner and chef was there to welcome me, even dished out a hug. Great vibe, amazing anchovy fillets buttered toast and sweet tomatoes. Good start for the week.
The Kitchen is my favorite lunch spot in Cape Town. The casual, vibey & homely atmosphere makes it a perfect place to enjoy a meal whether on your own or with friends.
You order your food by standing in a queue and choosing from the options and then sit down and eat your food on large tables that you share with others. The food is incredible, full of flavor and love 😍 Takeaway is also an option.
One can feel the love and passion for food as soon as you enter. It helps that the owner / founder is there most of the time too! Superb food. A local gem.
Beautiful, delicious and fresh salads! The atmosphere is uniquely Cape Town. A must visit, whether it's a weekly midday meal or a special treat. Vegetarian heaven with optional meat on the side, it satisfies everyone!
This is a top notch food experience. Highly highly recommend this spot. The atmosphere is amazing, staff are great and you get the real family kind of vibe.
The food is always great at The Kitchen. Many healthy choices to choose from. Be prepared to wait through the qeues are long.
The Kitchen is the coolest eatery in Woodstock. Their salads are super tasty and satisfying, and the casual atmosphere always makes my day. The art is eclectic yet appropriate: the Kitchen is where I discovered gorgeous line-drawings of Woodstock by the talented Mark Hilltout.
So fabulous. Lived up to my expectations as I have cooked from Karen Dudley's books. Loved the atmosphere and friendly staff. Great options for vegetarian and vegan. Yay! Yay! Yay!

PART 1 of 2: "Every day is a ballet performance. In the morning the we arrive, we stretch, slice vegetables and prepare for the show! We offer 20 salads, Love Sandwiches, and treats so it's an intense performance. Each salad must have its own character. It must sing. Sing the texture, the flavor. It must sing it's song and be an individual but also play well with the other vegetables. Salads, like people, are diverse and must find their way in this world to be the best versions of themselves.
.
I guess I have a real commitment to people and vegetables. Creating a culinary experience that inspires, that makes a difference in people's lives, that's what it's all about. The service of others is the highest and most noble calling in life. Nourishing the mind, body, soul, community, and identity of people is a remarkably beautiful opportunity. Food can unleash emotion and bring people to together, so the ministry and gospel of food is integral in finding communion in oneself, one's family, one's country.
.
Blending the diversity of ingredients in food, however, is no less difficult than blending the divides between people. South Africa has always had a crisis of identity. There are blacks, coloreds (people of mixed race), and whites. I've seen kids getting shot, bodies crushed against school doors, tires burning, people terrified running through the streets. My journey with food, the journey of my bloodline as a colored South African, the journey of South Africa are all one narrative of struggle. That transformative story of struggle exploded back in 1976 when..." (Continued: On Instagram @CouplesCookbook) ~Karen Dudley @CapeTownK Head Chef/Owner @LoveTheKitchen
