Review Ou Meul Bakkery - Welgemoed

Nice relaxing pitstop on our Sunday morning jog. Good food and drinks always. Luka says thank you so much for every water bowel he gets every time!

It's a cosy little place, service was good, prices aren't cheap but not too bad. My friend and I had the most divine coffee milkshakes (they have a delicious selection of flavours) and we shared a small portion of chips/fries, which were excellent.

My favorite meeting place. Took 2x different meetings today. Always good food and strong coffee.

I love coffee and I love people. It is so refreshing to come across a coffee shop that matches my love for coffee and people. The service is first class. A-grade. The best. It is the epitome of great service. The staff are incredibly friendly. The general manager, Zanmari, is really invested in her customers. Because of her attitude, I am now one of her regular customers. Ou Meul Welgemoed is now the home of my new office. Keep up the amazing service, you guys rock!

Great upmarket coffee shop and bakery. Excellent sour breads and creative menu items. Friendly staff who are accommodating and helpful. Good to have newspapers to read. Welcoming of solo tables and small groups and couples. All round a pleasant experience.

Always knew this place was here for many years, but the other day I was nearly home (cycling) and had not had a coffee yet (no ride is complete without a coffee ;) ) so I stopped here and to my surprise they had Bootlegger coffee, and I'm sure all the coffee lovers will know that their coffee is great. So definitely worth a stop. Also I'm sure not a lot of people (besides the people that live in the area) know about it.

Service was excellent food was good, manager Zanmari Heydenrych attended to us, wonderful experience!! Will be back soon👍

The service and coffee are excellent. The food is good, however, I don't recommend the pies (I've only had the steak). I have had their breakfasts though and they were superb. If you need a wake up call, I can highly recommend the cortado.

Good food and good sized portions. Coffee is great and they bake basically everything themselves. You can buy bread, pies, muffins and cake for takeaway. Coffee as well. Sometimes the services is a bit slow if they are very busy, but we have only experienced this once in the times that we have gone here.

Ou Meul Welgemoed must be the best spot for my morning coffee! Zanmari is always helpful and its always refreshing to see her face. always a smile on her face and always listing the delicious menu. The best assist to have her in this branch. Thank you for your service.

A very pleasant meating place for an early breakfast with Charl. I miss it tremendously since they moved to Zeurich for 3 years. The memories of warm chats over a nice breakfast in a quiet atmosphere, will keep me going till they return.

I came through to the Ou Meul Bakkery for a meeting. It was a warm and comfortable environment. Also, the Cappaccino's I had were exceptional. I will definitely come back to try their food... That review is to follow soon :).

We visited no fewer than THREE times for breakfast/brunch between 20 Dec 2017 and 7 Jan. On other days, we bought their croissants and bought from the well stocked gift and produce shop. To my mind this is just the business which Pinelands needed. The food was delicious and always served in a timely fashion. The staff were friendly and attentive at all times especially Mickey and owner/manager, Reinhardt. Our 15 Year old daughter summed it up best: "love the food, love the vibe, love the uniforms".

What a disappointment. My friends and I were greeted in a friendly manner but had to wait almost 15mins for someone to attend to us. Waitresses were constantly walking past us. Not one could ask if we have been attended to. This shows a lack of teamwork amongst the employees. When our waitress finally attended to us, we given a very bad attitude that we had to ask for the manager. The manger responded immediately and was professional and friendly and tried his utmost to convince us otherwise. He assured us that the waitress will give us the best service. However, the waitress refused to serve us. We did confront her in any manner and did not insult her. This attitude in a young person in the food industry is totally unacceptable. The manager still tried to convince us to stay and offered us another waitress but the damage was done. (He also offered complimentary drinks). Very pathetic attitude from waitress.

What a disappointment...We had a great brekkie one week, and so the next decided to get take away sandwiches as we were pressed for time. Well, when i got to work and opened the sandwich i could not belive what i was seeing. the smallest sandwich i have ever seen, and then to top it off, the bread was so hard that the crust actually cut the top of my mouth. If i had not been so hungry i would have just thrown them away, and this for R46 each!!!. I phoned and spoke to Rosie, who told me she was the manager, and she promised that the regional manager would get back to me that very same day....that was Saturday 13 Jan 18...still waiting for that call..... By comparison i went to Weisenhof Coffee shop at Vincent Pollotti the following week and got a sandwich 3 times the size, that was awesome for just R36 ....guess where i will go in the future!!!

We just popped in at Riversdal branch and presentation was well. However, both venison and spinach pies were dry and very unpleasant. The chocolate cake slice was a mere dry cupcake with a heavy taste of baking powder. For this price I, should have waited till Grabouw.

Today was our first and last visit to Ou Meul Somerset Mall. For a table of four (sandwhich style lunch), we waited over an hour for our lunch to be served. Upon our complaint we were informed by the manager that everything was freshly prepared and this takes time!! It boggles the mind how 3 toasted cheese and bacon sandwiches (one with chicken), merely thrown together with some limp rocket on the side, could take so long. An awful experience!!!! The 4th meal was the only acceptable offering.

Sitting in OuMeul Somerset....worst service EVER! I was never greeted...I eventually asked if I could be seated. I sat myself. After 10 mins I looked around for someone to help meeting a menu and ordering...the server never introduced herself or even made eye contact. I asked a question and she shouted to someone else to get and answe and then half was reported back to me. I placed my order (coffee and scone). Coffee was brought still waiting for 1 damn scone! Never again!

Happened to be driving past, decided to pop in (found out it had just opened/Simondium near Franschhoek) and couldn't not stay to have amazing jaffels, toasted sami's and delicious baked treats. Their staff was super friendly as well. Also their milkshakes... WOW! (I'd recommend the pecan nut pie milkshake).

Sjô vlg keer eerder ry ek verby...

Had breakfast at the Stanford branch on a busy Saturday in holiday season. Coffee was delicious, food was equally delicious (try the pan breakfast), and the waitrons are friendly and deft :)

I love going here as their breads are baked fresh and I especially love their sourdough bread. We had a lovely breakfast there and the coffee was excellent. Its a wonderful, cosy place to just go and be.

Love it! Fast service and great food ! That smell of home bake. Love the bread even took one home.

On two occasions, we had a very good dining experience. The food was delicious, and the service attentive (maybe even too attentive). And the location is around the corner from where we live in Pinelands. The overall ambience is inviting.

My family and I usually have great experiences at Ou Meul. Yesterday was sadly an exception. The sour dough open sandwich I ordered sounded fabulous - even without the mozarella and tomatoe. The bread however was hard with not even mayo on it or margarine. dry and terrible. The chicken with pesto mayo was tasty but the bread just made it too tough to eat. My husband's fish and chips - terrible. oily oily and tasteless. I assume they hoped that by putting chilli into the actual batter it would help. It didn't it just made us more irritated as we didn't remember seeing a mention of chilli on the menu. Maybe we're mistaken.

A favorite to go to Willowbridge. Love to sit outside, watch the people, listen to live music on weekends. The service is fine if you're not in a hurry, the waiters friendly, the food excellent.

Always get the fantastic service and meals never disappoint.

My favorite breakfast place in capetown. Croissants are freshly baked. Coffee is too good. Good service as well.

Luv the branch in Pinelands, but please do yourself a favour and stay away from the branch in Welgemoed forum, no sense of customer service. My second time around, got there 10 minutes after breakfast menu closed, not prepared to even consider it. Another table on Saturday had the same treatment, no sorry menu closed. And the restaurant only had two other customers there. I am sorry but a croissant, eggs, bacon is served throughout the whole day, easily could have served the breakfast croissant.

Love this place one of my favorite breakfast restaurants to go to. They have a new menu and they still have my favorite coffee on there the honey nut. The avo on toast is a small portion for a guy like me so I opted to have it times 2x. If you go there the place might be packed so you will have to wait in the line when you go there. Very popular place in the northern subs...

Decent coffee and food. Friendly service and staff. Scones were AMAZING! So crispy and delicious :)

My only complaint was the lack of staff (and task delegation).. resulting in service being EXTREMELY slow! Tables next to us were both complaining to staff on waiting times, but nothing was done by management. Not sure if I will visit again.

Every single waitress is responsible for taking orders, plating up the food, mopping the floor, cleaning and drying the dishes, running the till and counting up customer bills. Just really poor staff management from what I can see ... Felt really sorry for the waitresses.
Glynis Claire
The bacon and cheese burger with sweet potato fries is the ultimate lunch 😻 the staff are super efficient and friendly and the deck is really nice on summer days (if you miss the wind)

Wow I was so disappointed by this place. I'll start off by saying the service was lovely what was bad was the food. The burgers roll was dry and stale, the chips were sooo terrible my goodness. They tasted like they were from the previous day or two. Their mayonnaise was disgusting, the oil was lurking at the top. Not coming back here

Great little lunch time spot. Just stopped here for a coffee and snack. Ordered a coffee shake and a scone. Always a bit sceptical when ordering scones as I've had some really bad ones but this was really good and highly recommended. Really good menu variety and so much to choose from.

Great place to go for coffee or lunch! They have a great variety on their menu with pies, wraps and pizzas as well as burgers and sandwiches! Their milk tart milkshake is a must try!
Juanita Rene Stears
Wow is all I can say, the most amazing croissant breakfast I have ever had! Have a plain croissant or a croissant breakfast, but please try it! Big, fresh, filling! Going back for more.

visit the neighbourhood for old memories and found that this location comes with a new cafe (third one so far). didn't have much expectation but said to be bakery which is suitable for us to have a light lunch.
don't know how to start and describe, everything turns out unexpectedly excellent. tea, loose leaf tea, served in fancy cast iron teapot, which is the best way to keep and serve tea.
fish and croissant, no complaint at all, above average.
burger, huge in portion, tastes excellent, especially the sauce is home made sauce, not those ordinary barbecue or cheese sauce but juicy veggie based sauce, which makes the whole burger so different and juicy.

We visited Oumeul for a quick unplanned breakfast on a chilly morning and I can honestly say that I was quite surprised by this little hidden gem!

You walk into a cozy little cafe, freshly baked bread on the one side, an array of sweet treats and some of the most amazing looking cookies I've seen. It was relatively quiet so we seated ourselves at a table close to the window, enjoying our breakfast in style with super comfy chairs and a view of the early morning sky. Our waitress was very friendly, making her suggestions, answering our questions with incredible insight and bringing out our food and drinks at the perfect time.

I ordered the honey nut latte and all I can say is DELICIOUS! It comes highly recommended! Also tried the freshly pressed apple juice, which was indeed very fresh and offered a perfect start to the morning.

The food was just as good. I had the granola with fruit salad. The granola was fantastic and baked to perfection. I loved the addition of pecan nuts into the mix as well as the drizzle of honey. You definitely got what you paid for as the portion size was quite large. They offer a DIY breakfast where you can basically put together your own plate of food. We ordered an omelette with ham, cheese and mushroom. It came with toasted sourdough bread. It got the thumbs up, but the only slip up was that the waitress forgot to bring us the extra avo we ordered with it. However, she was very apologetic and immediately brought it to us.

Overall, a lovely experience and I'm so glad to have discovered this treasure chest of a cafe. The perfect spot for a quick breakfast, or just a cup of coffee and a cookie. I shall definitely be returning to sample their delicious looking milkshakes! And have a cookie of course!

Great place for breakfast
I suggest the eggs benedict with salmon. There sour dough bread that comes with it is divine. Specially when lightly toasted. And to top it off, they stock the famous riviersonderend pie. Grab a few for lunch. I suggest getting here early because business really picks up after 10 am. On Saturdays there is also a slow market just a few steps away

Lively place. Nice outside view beautiful inside aswel. Only nehative would be the speed of the service, but even with that in mind I loved it.

Went here for an early lunch today mesmersised by the smell of freshly baked bread. The pulled pork open sandwich and smoked salmon croissant finally won our hearts. Great coffee, friendly and willing service and ever present management highly commendable. Will be back.

Fast service and cute little venue. Food was very tasty but the coffee disappointed a little. Cafe Late served as a cappuccino but the coffee did taste great.

Finally got to visit the lovely Oumeul Bakkery at Willowbridge on Sunday, and was seriously impressed! I ordered the toasted banana bread.. Thank you Shante 😉 and the honey nut latte.. Definitely a goodie!!

Let's face it--sometimes there are days when one really just needs a good slice of cake to restore order to things. Seeing as a new branch of Oumeul Bakkery opened in Welgemoed, around the corner from where I live, I took the opportunity to sample their treats (for science, you know).

Of course, I wasn't disappointed. In fact, I enjoyed this branch more than the other one at Willowbridge Centre, as it was a little smaller and less crowded (let's hope that the masses don't catch on too quickly). I tried both the carrot cake, which is my usual go-to option, as well as their baked cheese cake, for which they have a new recipe. The carrot cake slice was dense and moist, and not too sweet. The cheese cake was outrageously indulgent--rich, creamy, dense and gooey all at the same time. Both the service and the management were excellent, and I felt welcome and appreciated as a customer.

I'll definitely be back when my next carbohydrate craving kicks in.

The TEA was great! Food was perfect. Staff was fantastic. We had an amazing brunch there with my gf having the most amazing breakfast sandwich she says she's ever had with bechamel sauce that just melted in your mouth. Will be back for sure

I really like the Ou Meul brand, they have beautifully designed stores, and delicious Bootlegger coffee and fresh artisan baked goods. Welgemoed is a lovely with decent service, but it feels like something's missing. Still an overall good experience.

Once again.. Has a lovely coffee date at Oumeul Bakery!
Tried the red cappuccino this time. Beautifully decorated with honey and cinnamon. I love the artesian feel of this little gem. Definitely worth a visit if you haven't been already!
