Review The Woodlands Eatery - Vredehoek

Mugisha Hakizimana
I’ve been here several times and just keep forgetting to do a review, this restaurant has great food and great service almost always. I would not recommend the three cheese gnocchi as it is extremely rich however all the other meals I have had here were outstanding their assorted bruschetta offered an interesting twist to the classic tomato offering variations with mushroom and egg plant. Decor is nothing special but space is always clean and homely. Menu also has helpful wine parings.

I've been here twice now, and both experiences have been magnificent. Everyone I've brought with agrees wholeheartedly. Some of the best Italian food to be found in Cape Town, for a very reasonable price. Staff are friendly and attentive.

We had a truly wonderful time at Woodlands Eatery. All the staff were extremely attentive and friendly. the owner is very present and very accommodating and it gives the whole restaurant a really nice and comfortable family atmosphere! Food was delicious and the portions were very generous. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the mood for good Italian cuisine. We will definitely be going back!

Scott was great and really knew his menu. The food was good and the atmosphere is relaxing. I’ll definitely be back here!

Having been here twice, I have enjoyed both times immensely. The food is fantastically flavorful, and very well cooked. Portions are well sized and quite generous. Service is good, and I found both the wait-staff and owner attentive and personable. Over all, a wonderful Italian restaurant with a good host of options at reasonable prices.

Wow! Second meal at this local eatery which was absolutely amazing. One of the best Pizzas I have had in Cape Town. Well worth the visit. We will be back…

The food is tasty, but I probably wouldn’t remember this restaurant at the end of the trip. * eggplant parmigiana was good * you can make your own pizza which is very nice. The crust is thin and the pizza is tasty, but too oily for my taste * we had aperol spritz and edelflower g&t, both very good * they offer a suggestion for each dish to pair it with a glass of wine. I find this very useful as I am not a regular wine drinker so I wouldn’t know how to choose the right one

Interesting and extensive Italian style menu with delicious and quality food to match, the 4 cheese ravioli in particular is phenomenal. The restaurant itself is quaint with beautiful views. In addition, the service is great with accommodating staff - we brought a bottle of wine that was already on the menu so we weren't technically allowed to have it but our waiter let us have it as we didn't know.

Oh, I didn't know that there was a new owner....they took the aubergine pizza and butternut salad off the menu... yes I have had the beetroot salad and the artichoke pizza which are the replacements but why take the amazing dishes off the menu, just add some new ones! The menu is so small they could handle another salad and pizza. Everyone loves the freaking aubergine pizza, it's amazing!!! Anyway, I would like the aubergine pizza and butternut salad back on the menu please!! Thanks ;)

Returned for the first time in years while we have been housesitting nearby. Had an AMAZING meal - baked camembert starter, gnocchi ragu, peri peri prawns. Service was awesome and was great chatting to the new owner - great food and cosy, welcoming atmosphere made us decide this is our new favourite restaurant. Have had takeaway pizza through orderin 3 times since and we are obsessed! Basically I think everything they make must be good. Well made food with fresh, quality ingredients. Yum!

Great experience. Great food. Great service! Best gem in Vredehoek I have seen! Special thanks to Mzi for attending to all my special requests as well as being customer focused the entire evening! This manager is golden! I’ll be back! Thank you.

Delicious pizza, my favourite place to eat a veggie burger and great service! Thank you woodlands
Danielle Human
LOVE this spot. best pizza in cape town for sure! The amount of vegan/vegetarian options is awesome :)

The woodlands eatery is fascinating place! The food is perfect quality and the staff is really friendly, just the whole atmosphere is amazing!
Jaci Nutman
So I remember having to book way in advance to eat at this special place. No matter which night of the week. Now Larry sold and the personal attention has left too and the ambience. To pay 300 for 2 burgers and a single drink might have something to do with the fact there were only 2 tables at 6.30 pm in the evening and no reserved tables. When your offering is sub standard don't abuse your customers. I won't come back, and have been with woodlands since they opened.
Mary-Rose Wrigley
First time there and I loved it :) Went to the food and wine pairing evening and the hosts were nothing short of generous! I will definitely be back :)
Francesco Corrente
The place is amzing! The food is good quality...And the wine ???I just don't remember (It's my fault I drunk too much, but I guess was good too :)) Matteo and Mizio are great! I had a super experience there...I'll be back for sure when I'll be in Cape Town again (hope as soon as possible!)... Gracias

Best pizza in Cape Town, a variety of vegan options and top ingredients used. What more do you want? You can taste the owners are passionate about what they do.
Susan Davis
The new Italian owners are making all the difference.. Wonderful friendly welcome and the food was delicious from the beetroot goats cheese salad to arincini balls.. great pizza and gnocchi with a difference (made with sweet potatoe and butternut) We had a great family celebration!

As a visitor to Cape Town, it was such a treat to get away from the waterfront and visit this gem. The food was spectacular, the service fantastic and the vibe was really special.
Caroline
Beautiful fresh homemade pasta. Huge portion sizes! Gorgeous attentive waiters and owner. Has become our regular pasta spot in Cape Town. Fabulous vegan options too. We will be back.
Tahnita Monteiro
Love, love, Love! From the decor, to the service, and not to mention the FOOD, all were exceptional.

The pizza crust was perfection, so ultra thin. Flavours were great. They even have vegan options!
Nicholas_Jon_D
Honestly one of my favorite pizza places in Cape Town. They serve big portions, and the pizza doesn’t leave you feeling bloated which is amazing. 🍕🙌🏼🍕🙌🏼🍕🙌🏼🍕

I stumbled across this restaurant and found that the setting was amazing , the seating area was comfortable , the waitrons was welcoming, the owner fantastic and the food was delicious, definitely a place to try out 😀 every guest of mine really enjoyed it when I took them dinning at the Woodlands Eatery ✨✨✨✨
Lauren Jackson
The bacon, gorgonzola, avo and chili pizza was delicious! I love the extra thin pizza bases! Followed this with a decadent chocolate truffle! Stunning food, super fast and friendly service and a lovely ambience. What more could you ask for?

We did date night at Woodlands eatery last night, looking for a quirky but nice restaurant, and joked about how there’s no way the food can taste as good as the website photos show -we were in for quite a surprise!

We started out with some prosecco and people watching in the interesting and quirky decorated restaurant ( everyone from large families with children, groups celebrating, as well as smaller tables with some friends and couples, all so completely happy with the food and atmosphere), and eventually were able to decide on food: the Green pizza and mushroom and truffle oil penne pasta. The wait was not too long, and for the quality of the food (both dishes were shared between the two of us), we’d have happily waited much longer! The freshest ingredients, prepared and combined so perfectly that, while we were more than content with the portions, one also doesn't feel the need to have one bite more, as what you are given is exactly how much you’re able to experience (this isn’t merely eating food anymore!). After a while we ordered the chocolate fondant (because, you know, everyone says it’s the best), and were left speechless, and utterly satisfied. Please don’t skip this on your visit!

Both being “foodies” (in the sense that wherever we are, we never let an opportunity pass by to try out a new restaurant or dish), we felt that this place, the food, and the service: from the friendly hostess, to owner, whose warm and sincere attention is focussed on ensuring everyone is having a memorable, top notch experience at Woodlands Eatery, as well as the waiters (thanks Troy!) who makes one feel most welcome.

Definitely a must visit restaurant in Cape Town for locals and visitors alike, and one we’ll be sure to return to! Thanks so much to everyone at Woodlands eatery :)

I enjoyed the cauliflower pizza base with four cheese, also liked the hand cut chips and zucchini fritters. it is dog friendly in the front section which is nice for my pups

I had my birthday celebration at The Woodlands Eatery last night. It is easy to see why The Woodlands Eatery was voted one of the best Italian restaurants in Cape Town 2018 by The Inside Guide.

From start to finish the experience was memorable. The restaurant is beautiful and relaxed, the food delicious and the service excellent.

Such a great vibe and atmosphere. I love the quirky decor. This is a real neighbourhood gem.

The owner Matteo was very accommodating, I increased the amount of people for my party a few times and each time I received a quick friendly email response to say it was not a problem. He came to personally greet us at the table and wish us a good evening. The Italian waitress Laura was great. The staff were very attentive from the moment we arrived,

The food was fabulous, top-notch. Everybody (and I mean everybody) loved the food. The chocolate fondant was out of this world.

I would highly recommend this spot. Great Italian food, reasonable prices and a taste of ole Italy. Thanks Matteo and staff for making my birthday special and for your Italian hospitality.

Hidden gem!
Had a lovely Sunday lunch here. Warm atmosphere, good service and very generous portions. Went with a group and we had pizza pasta and burger. All were great, can really taste and appreciate the homemade ingredients!
Carmen Katz
Very disappointing experience on Friday night. A friend invited me after sharing the menu which clearly stated a few vegan options marked V.G. When I asked the waitress to confirm if the gnocchi was vegan, she said no, it had egg and so did the focaccia and pizza. So ultimately I was left with the burger which was not what I had in mind. Marking items vegan when they clearly are not is unacceptable. I won’t be back

This is such a nice little Italian eatery. Super popular (every table was taken and a bunch of people were waiting for seats at the bar); happy my friend and I made a reservation.

The menu has so many options. I had such a tough time choosing because it all sounded heavenly. My friend had the chicken and coriander pizza. It’s really good pizza; thin crispy wood fired bases with loads of toppings (I stole a slice off my friend’s plate). While I ordered the veggie burger with sweet potato fries. The burger is really yummy, I do appreciate handcrafted veggie burgers made with loads of veggies and legumes. It’s served with 3 humongous onion rings and I swear an entire pocket of real hand-cut sweet potato fries (not the fluorescent orange ones you find in the freezers of grocery stores). This is a meal made for the very hungry!

So while I was perusing the menu, I spotted choc fondant. Despite being stuffed, I was not going to turn down dessert. Besides, dessert goes to a separate stomach. Oh my warm chocolatey gooey goodness!! No regrets!

A big shout out to our waiter, Mzi! He was so attentive and gave the best food recommendations!

I will surely come back.
Carys
Good service & really great setting! Would definitely recommend the big gus pizza (pork & mango) - it’s something different and very enjoyable! They have a wide selection on their menu and are affordably priced!
Jason Aproskie
We ordered pizzas from this restaurant. Possibly the worst pizzas we have ever had. Bases were both undercooked. Toppings were wet. Not sure there was any cheese. One of our pizzas had very little toppings. They just didn't taste right.
Allan Moita
Nice environment. Looks quaint and has a real neighborhood feel.
The food is okay. Didn’t enjoy the pizza base. Was not to my taste. Meals were all fresh though. The menu has massive diversity and you’re definitely going to find something for everyone.

Service was fine too. Not the most attentive but par for the course in a “local”.
Lisa Botha Gibbon
We headed here for a late lunch after a disastrous Oceans registration. What a delight! Brian had been here for the first time earlier in the week and when I mentioned pasta, he suggested that we go to Woodlands.

It is a lovely relaxed restaurant with a great vibe. I’m sure it will be an awesome spot to visit in winter - warm and cozy! Brian had a pizza which looked delicious and he said it was indeed delicious - Margarita with extra bacon, onions and avo. I had ravioli filled with sundried tomato, rocket and feta in a sage and butter sauce - very very yummy. Presentation is nonexistent - it’s just food on a plate, but the food is fantastic.

Service is fast and friendly, and they have a decent selection of wine and beer. The bar looked very inviting as well - I’m sure many parties have started right here!

I will be back 😊

Very happy with the new owners of the restaurant, the food has been improved while keeping the old bestsellers like pizza with lamb. The decor hasn’t been changed, same cosy ambiance. Service has also been improved, and waiters are much kinder and helpful . Very good place for tasting home made pasta.
Matt Visser
Very good food, the lamb pizza changed my thoughts as pizza as a concept ;) Outstanding service and you can buy pizza bases to cheat like a pro for a home pizza night.
Giorea1984
We are glad to discover that this gem is under a new management, definitely suggested for a good dinner in a nice atmosphere surrounded by good vibes

Just had the most amazing dinner at woodlands eatery. Food amazing and savored every mouth-full. Just yummy. Service not to shabby either. 👏👍😘😘
Claire_Nicola
One of my favourite Cape Town hang outs! The hosts could not be more warm and attentive, the food is flavorful and varied (my top order is the truffle oil infused burger) and the atmosphere creates a feeling of being in a family home. Easy, comfortable and familiar. If you haven't been here yet, make sure you do soon!

We attended woodlands tonight for the second time to find it under new ownership, and it seems Matteo, the new owner has injected some much needed life and passion into this quirky little restaurant.

The menu is moving towards the Italian side now, but retains some of the good old crowd favourites like the tacos and burgers.

We shared the courgette fritters and mushroom arancini to start, and both were superb! Like really really yummy. I could have carried on eating little bites of yum like this all night.

I went for the mushroom and artichoke ravioli with 4 fromagio sauce for mains and it didn't disappoint. The sauce was perfectly stinky and delicious, and the freshly made ravioli were perfect to soak it up. A friend had a pizza with salami, olives, caremelized onion and chilli which was equally delicious and baked to crispy perfection in their wood fired oven.

He joked that he wanted his pizza garnished with an onion ring cause they are so good, to which we were served an extra portion of onion rings on the side.

Annnnnd, the complimentary limoncelos and gracas after our meal went down a real treat.

The service was attentive and friendly, and the decor is lovely(i especially lived the old lampshades hanging as chandeliers). I also thought they had the perfect background music playing.

Definitely looking forward to our next visit.
Leila Smeyatsky
I had the most amazing meal at the Woodlands Eatery last night. The place has recently been taken over by an Italian restauranteur who is in the process of adding Italian food to the menu. I definitely recommend anything off their new menu, but the other food looked incredible from the tables around us.

I had the ravioli which was delicious and a decent portion. The people with me had a different pizza each which they both enjoyed, my sister had the gluten free base which she said was the best she's ever had.

We tried the chocolate fondant and tiramisu for dessert. Both were incredible, the fondant was probably the best one I've had!

Please treat yourself and go to this gorgeous little restaurant. You won't regret it!
Brian
The new owner has Injected some much needed energy into this quaint venue, food was truly exceptional, I cannot fault it at all, pizza is certainly not pizza, these guys have a winning recipe, crispy bases with the freshest ingredients, daily specials on offer and is based on what fresh produce can be sourced. Initially might have been a bit quiet but I am sure it won't be the case for long, as this gem will not stay hidden for long.
Azure Canister
Good pizza ,good value, excellent service reasonable prices. Vegetarian pizza was very good, portions are big. Love the decor more than all.
Anushia Moodliar
Had dinner here a few times. Always busy. Cosy and intimate. The starters are always a winner. The tacos, on our last visit, was not up to expectation. Staff always very friendly.

The woodlands eatery is a lovely restaurant in Veredehoek. The service is great and the food is devine. I had the beef tacos which were delicious. The beef was soft and tender but it was a little bit salty. My boyfriend had the lamb pizza which was good but lacked salt and was a little bit bland. I will definitely be going back here again.
Kposselwhite
Literally the best veggie burger, or even just burger in general, I've ever had. I'm not even a vegetarian and I would automatically opt for this over any other burger option. Also, it comes with yummy sweet potato fries on the side- no need to request them separately, which is amazing because let's be real, every burger should come with fries on the side. The vibe is pretty casual otherwise and it's one of the few places that seems to be open on a Sunday!
Toni McCann
Oh my goodness! Came here (not my first dabble), to try the special (The Boetie pizza) and for taco Tuesday! Holy smokes! Sooooo good!

As the winner of the Facebook pizza competition I was given a pizza and drink on the house! The service was friendly and efficient and the vibe was super relaxed and cool! Comfy, casual and such a winning spot!

So we started with the tempura green beans with Asian dipping sauce! So yum! Such a good way to warm up your taste buds! Then the tacos, all amazing! Especially loved the fish taco! And such a fun interactive way to serve a meal! Then. The Boetie. If you like bobotie, then this is the pizza for you! Both the meat and vegetarian options were amazing! And the chutney on it! So good! Definitely going back for another one before the special ends! And then to finish we had the chocolate fondant. The famous fondant. Nothing more needs to be said other than look at that the photo, and you'll understand why it's famous!

Woodlands makes really nice food and has a unique and pleasant atmosphere. It feels a bit like you might be in a cabin in the woods somewhere, but with really great food and pretty good service.

There are even a couple of vegan items on the menu. We had the tempura green beans, BBQ cauliflower and chickpea taco, and the veggie burger (which is plant-based). The green beans were quite heavily battered and we found them quite salty and rich so we didn't manage them all, but our mains were hearty and scrumptious.
Sarah Stempowski
The service was friendly, the vibe was chilled and the food was delicious. I shared the gorgonzola pizza and beetroot salad. I dream about it. Yum.
Jenna Rodd
Absolutely love the atmosphere at the Woodlands eatery. The pizzas are amazing. I'm such a fan of the avo, bacon and Gorgonzola pizza. They have a lot of really unique pizzas. The decor is really cosy and quirky and the restaurant has a really romantic and warm feel.
Andrewmcgarrity
HOLY COW!!!! Super rad decor, I love the succulents in the coke bottles outside, mix and match tables, lamp shades and lights. Service was extremely friendly and on point. BUT THE FOOD!!! Honestly, the best pork taco I have had in my LIFE! I have had pork tacos in NYC that didn't taste this good. My girlfriend had the BBQ cauliflower and chickpea taco and also amazing! I am definitely coming back and will recommend this to all that are visiting Cape Town. Well done guys! Again amazing!!
Johnny Jol
I love coming to this place when in the mood for a quiet, casual dinner. An interesting menu with something for everyone. Service and prices are average for Cape Town.
Julie Geldart
You can't go to Woodlands without getting their lamb pizza- it's perfection. The atmosphere is great and so is the staff. I've never had a bad meal here, definitely worth returning to
Richard
As usual Woodlands doesn't disappoint. Truly delicious pizza and salads, and amazing fish and chips. This restaurant continues to surprise. Service has upped its game and was swift, friendly and efficient.
Claire
Awesome little spot - the food is great and the service isn't too bad either. The lamb pizza is a must and the tacos are perfect for a light meal - really good quality food. The setting is very pleasant and has a very "hipster" feel - all things considered I'll be back time and again.
Murray Beattie
My wife and I live just up the road from The Woodlands Eatery and we absolutely love the food there. The carb free pizza bases are the best we've had to date and have become a regular option for us. Another favourite of mine is the fish tacos, lovely crispy batter. Service is always good, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Look forward to many more meals there.
Talia Lee Cohen
Always exceptional food! I've tried almost everything from their famous lamb pizza,to their unforgettable prawn curry and their unique salad combinations! (although the veg taco was a disappointment, the meat taco is good).

The vibe is always good. It's a cosy spot for winter, especially with a warming beer and good company 🍻 😉 some advice would be to alternate the specials list more frequently..
Tracey Smorenburg
Great little place for a bite. Food was really good especially the fish gougons. Service was great and a really good vibe. The shrimp salad was also delicious.
Hassan Nirvana
Woodlands used to be my favourite pizza restaurant in Cape Town but I think their popularity has gone to their heads and their quality has dropped significantly which is such a shame. It's a quirky little restaurant situated in Vredehoek. Their garlic flatbread used to be amazing. Now it's just a thick piece of dough with a little garlic butter spread on the middle of the base and the edges have been left dry, it's like eating dry bread. I'm very disappointed that it's not what it used to be. Their lamb pizza is good but their isn't much lamb on it.
Danielle Audrey Terblanche
I was the biggest fan of Woodlands, in fact my boyfriend and I celebrated most months here together.
The seafood pasta was untouchable, and he raved about the steak.

We planned on going there tonight for an anniversary, luckily we checked the menu online first! ALL the originals gone (except the tempura broccoli) replaced with tacos, pizza and burgers? What a pity to lose such a gem of a restaurant just to fit in with the rest of cape towns hipster spots...
Ben Kilian
Awesome homey ambiance :) Very good coffee, with a well diversified menu. Tried the "Zucchini fritters" and "Feta & garlic pizza bread" ... Soooo good!! Cool, rustic little venue.

Service was unfortunately average, at best ... very slow; with some of the most un-enthusiastic waiters/waitresses I've EVER come across :( ... Don't think I'll be back soon
Natalie Smith
Delicious food and friendly as well as accommodating staff.. Little bit on the expensive side considering it is pizza but good food nevertheless!
Bevan Hope
Warm beer, slow service and slightly above average food. Not what I'm used to to getting fro Woodlands Eatery, perhaps just a bad night. Let's hope that's it.
Cape Town Diva
Really excellent meal-4 of us having different things from tacos to shrimp & lime salad & veggie burgers, all really good. Wine by the glass (Usana cab sav at R47) is quite steep I felt, when a glass of excellent red is around R35 -R45 at P&G, Bocca, La Parada or Clark's for instance
Menu has changed since I was last here 2 years ago which is fab as I didn't enjoy the offering back then. I recommend this place! We sat in the 'outside' enclosed area which was cool.
Bruno
Very industrial but homely feel to the place, personal and friendly service. The zucchini fritter starter was exceptional. The roasted lamb pizza was super thin (a good thing) and tasty. Never got through to the dessert menu 😞. Very repeatable I.e. worth returning again for the right reasons 👍🏻🙂☀️

2nd UPDATE: Wow! Talking about upping your game. So often I have to come back and downgrade reviews, so it's wonderful to have to come back to improve a review....especially more than once! Now having tasted almost every aspect of their menu, I can say they have caught the beauty of Italian cuisine. Their pizzas are delicious, unique and beautiful with a splendid tomato paste. My sweet tooth might be a bit biased, but their chocolate fondant is unparalleled. The service must have had some sort of magical boost, because the energy and natural friendliness of the staff is exactly what you need to let loose. Come here, though be warned they aren't cheap.

UPDATE: Woodland's eatery has only gotten better with time. Their unique menu is inspiring for a little street-side restaurant. The 'Zucchini fritters' were surprisingly tasty, coupled with lemon juice and yogurt. The pizza's here, as I have said before on Zomato, are simply great! The chocolate fondant was absolutely delicious, with dark chocolate innard oozing out of the fondant when I punctured it - beautiful. Paired with ice cream, it was the perfect way to end a three course meal.

Woodlands Eatery is on the list of go to places in Cape Town. Offering the rarity of Wood-fired pizzas, Woodlands is definitely a star in the local market. Offering a uniquely romantic and warm atmosphere, strengthened by the furniture and design of the restaurant. The food itself is well seasoned and balanced, with the highlights definitely being the cooked steaks and meats, as well as the rectangular fired pizzas.

The service is mediocre at best, which is something I sadly expected from the unenthusiastic staff. Overall the somewhat lacking menu is made up for by the environment and style of cooking.

80%
Jaynisha Patel
I used to be such a fan of this spot but my last visit was somewhat disappointing. The menu is a shrivel of what it used to be. My friend used to really enjoy the steak which they don't do anymore, and I loved the pasta - they don't do that anymore either. The service and ambiance are still great.

On my most recent visit, I had a pizza which I did enjoy but it wasn't something unique to this restaurant and I could probably have pizza like that at a lot of other places. My friend had the beer battered hake and thought it was rather average. For dessert we had the chocolate fondant, which was definitely as good as it used to be.

Overall, it was an okay experience and hope they do add more to the menu soon.
Glen Loxton
Great location and ambience, the civilized side of trendy eateries. Good selection of craft beers and spirits. Must have the pizza, woodfired crunchy thin crust with the most unusual but delicious toppings! On hot summer nights I recommend one tries to get a table in the enclosed patio area, away from the bar as it can get very hot and stuffy in there. 10/10 would do again.
Dave Perrett
Great little place that was recommended by our guesthouse. We had the lamb pizza and that had an amazing and interesting taste. No more Darling Brew but the CBC Pilsner more than satisfied.
Ulisha Moodley
We have visited the Woodlands Eatery quite a few times and have had all good experiences with awesome food. It's a cosy restaurant which is perfect for evening dining.

My favourite would have to be the lamb pizza it's just so divine. The lamb is cooked to perfection with a crispy base, just the way I like it😛. I also used to enjoy the seafood paella but that has been taken off the menu which we were quite sad about.

All around the service is good, it can sometimes be slow but the waiters are friendly and of course the food is great.
Arno Quinton
I've been there a few times and it's easily one of my favourite places to grab a bite in vredehoek. The burgers and pizza will figuratively blow your mind
Ceiran Megan Vd Westhuizen
I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. My expectations weren't high because the menu seem a bit pretentious and not really the kind of stuff I would eat. But the burger I had was incredible and all the flavours were on point👌 however the crayfish risotto my gran had was not cooked properly while being a R130 dish.
Mandy Jones
Such a cosy spot in Cape Town, and one that has definitely grown since I was last here. There's always a vibe, and if you haven't booked you might find yourself waiting a while for a table.

The food was really good and the cheese burger I ordered was one of the best I've had.. The only downer was that we waited over an hour for our food and the waiter seemed to disappear after taking our order. I also found that their prices were a little steep for the type of homely meal that they serve up. If you're in the area it's worth visiting, but there are some awesome other places around that might give Woodlands a run for their money.

Updated:
We visited again, and although the menu was pretty much the same, I think there is new management. The service was much faster and the food nicer than the time before.
I Love Foodies
It's a cute little place, cosy, with lots of friendly people. Booking is definitely recommended though. Sometimes I find them a little expensive and some of the combinations too weird and fancy, though their food is good and perhaps the quality is worth it - and I'm actually always surprised at how amazing those weird food combinations are! Their pizzas come highly recommended, though I've never had them. I really enjoy their steak though, and their seafood pasta is the best I've had in town! So, all in all, good hearty food, warm and comfortable, and a lovely neighbourhood eatery.
Minouw Coetzee
i love dining here. The mussels, cheeseburger and lamb pizza are some of my favourites on the menu. The service is always top notch and the atmosphere is warm and cosy.

I came to The Woodlands Eatery for the first time two years ago and fell in love with their Chicken, pesto, walnuts pizza. Every time I went back, it was always for that.

Recently I went again for the first time in a long time to find their menu has changed and my favourite pizza got the axe. I'm still devastated.

Anyway, I had the pork and red pepper pizza and the bacon, avo, feta pizza (we shared, I didn't actually eat both) they were both pretty tasty and quite big. The service was good as usual and I've always been a fan of the Vredehoek vibe.

I do think their prices are a bit steep, and have increased quite a bit from when I first started going, but I quite honestly would've paid any price for the chicken, pesto pizza.

Such a great spot for a birthday celebration or great catch up with friends. The pizza is delish. Out table shared the Parma Ham, Big Gus and Lamb Pizza and a couple bottles of Stoneridge Chard, Hartenberg and the Alphabetical. It has a very intimate vibe with wonderfully friendly service.

Love the food at this restaurant! Pizza is amazing! Service can somethings be disappointing and the seating times annoying but hey they are super popular for a reason.

Very disappointed in the complete lack of service here! I have come here before and really enjoyed it but was really disappointed this time! Took forever to order drinks....did our waiter forget about us? Then our food took over an hour? No apologies, no updates....nothing! Then we got a bottle of red wine as compensation which was nice but we didn't really want to drink anyway. When I said to the other waiter that our food took beyond forever she got defensive and I said to her that I know she's not our waiter but please understand how hungry and annoyed we are. Our waiter was non-existant. Then the food arrived and it was cold and average to say the least. I wasn't overly impressed especially based on the price. We won't be visiting this place anytime soon....such a pity! Hope it improves soon!

We stumbled upon Woodlands last night and what a find! Really superb place! Awesome venue with quirky decor and fantastic service. I had the pizza with poached pear, brie and nuts - so so good. My partner had the cheese burger which he said was pretty much the best he's ever had. Highly recommend this to any and everyone! We will be going back again and again :-)

Iv only ever eaten pizza at Woodlands. The lamb pizza is outstanding! It comes with a dollop of creme fresh which compliments the lamb perfectly. Il definitely go back for that pizza! Wow!

Nothing disappointing about The Woodlands Eatery at all - although I wasn't blown away by the pizza that I had (despite their stellar reputation). The service was excellent, considering that we were a table of twenty. I wouldn't rush back, but I think they are worth another visit to verify or dismiss the hype.

Great spot for a dinner with friends. Very vibey and every time we have been the service has been good. The lamb pizza always comes out as a favourite, but we usually order a burger or their gluten free veg pizza.

On two occasions now I have had dinner here and am thoroughly disappointed by the quality of food. Our food arrived and, seriously?? Instead of bacon there were chunks of fatty kassler chops thrown on the pizza, there was absolutely no chilli, there was not enough cheese on the pizza to cover the thing. And I think its is totally ridiculous that you charge an additional R25 for a wheat-free pizza. Our service was good, and had a really friendly waiter but this place is defiantly over priced and over-rated.

Love the vibe of this place and all the food is amazing. I've tried the beer battered fish, the pizza, burgers, salads and hot chocolate (the hot chocolate is such a win too). All round awesome.

Woodlands is definitely somewhere we go to often. Being a glutard if I find a place with good gluten free pizzas I get weirdly protective over it, if I find a place with GREAT gluten free pizzas - well then it's just borderline obsessive.

We always bring people here when they are visiting Cape Town, or if we need a bigger table for a group of mates because the atmosphere is just as good as the food. I have since branched out from the pizzas (although it is rare) and their seafood risotto, burger and butternut salad is yummy. Nothing beats their pizzas though - I'm slowly making my way through the list. The zucchini and the lamb pizzas will boggle your mind.

Sadly, there are no photos for this review because I'm always too excited when the food arrives to remember to take a photo - and I don't think anyone reading this wants to see a photo of an empty pizza board. Such a great find! Perfect for a couple of drinks and I dare you not to order something to eat once you take a look at their menu! They have a great selection of craft beers, including a gluten-free option!

This place is a special treat. From the decor to the atmosphere to the food, it offers a completely unique dining experience. Although it may look like a trendy hipster trap, it's a place that can be enjoyed by anyone and caters for all tastes. A lovely little culinary adventure.

Amazing restaurant, had a fantastic evening there with a couple of friends. Everything on the menu from the wine to the deserts were spectacular. My only issue, I was still hungry when we left..

They might be known for their pizza but when we visited, everything was good! Chickpea curry is delicious and hearty, the gnocchi was lovely and the place has a great vibe. Definitely enquire about their scoop and truffle of the day ! We were treated to a pumpkin, cinnamon and caramel ice cream (I'm still craving it!) and a decadent Amarula truffle. Go treat yourself, but be sure to make a booking as it seems to be quite popular.

Best pizza in Cape Town. And great choices of house wines. Great for get togethers, quick stops and even take aways! PS: they do gluten free basis at an extra charge.

Very delicious meals. Incredible flavours and food pairing! Wonderful ambiance and mood. Perfect for an intimidate date or for an exciting party with friends. Hidden away in Deer Park, this gem is the perfect night out for a good meal and amazing atmosphere.

Update: Their new menu does need some work however. The tacos are okay but not amazing - perhaps they are still finding their niche in the restaurant. Order pizza rather - it's what they're best known for

Had a disappointing experience here. Two people ordered the famed lamb pizza, one of them said it was bland and the other one called it "terrible". I had the bacon pizza which was also incredibly bland, almost as though it hadn't been seasoned at all. The base was good though, lovely and thin and crispy.

Apparently the cheeseburger was good.
Woodlands Eatery is quite possibly the golden child in the Vredehoek/Oranjezicht foodie scene! The eclectic restaurant is always filled with a satisfied buzz and it is undoubtably the service and food that encourage this satisfaction. I have been to Woodlands Eatery more times than I like to admit and have yet to be disappointed!

I've had my fair share of the pizza menu, but a firm favourite is the spinach and ricotta gnocchi!

If you are looking for a friendly and relaxed dining experience this is your place, be sure to book!

Service might not be the best, but it's understandable in the context and atmosphere of the restaurant.
Highly recommend the seafood paella and risotto balls. Great as an inside the neighbourhood restaurant!

Surprised my Lady for her birthday here and it was amazing.. some of the best pizza and setting ever.

My only concern(which isnt even a concern) is that its a bit small for huuuuge parties, but as it stands, I really loved it and it made mine, my girl and everyone who came their' evening.

A charming neighborhood spot famous for its pizzas. It does a number of other things well too though. A consistent performer. Recommendation: pork and mango pizza, Lakeside APA on tap.

Absolutely love this place and the random location :-) Had the Spinach & Ricotta Gnocchi on Friday night and it was amazing, as always!
We didn't make a booking, but the friendly hostess still gave us a table for almost an hour until the people that booked showed up.
I will most def keep going back there. Highly recommended.

Great service and the food was delicious. Had the pizza and spinach and ricotta gnocchi and was very impressed by both meals. Nice cozy spot and would recommend it to anyone looking to try a new place.

As always I love this venue, awesome food, the risotto balls and mussels are simple and delicious, the pizza always a feast and the chocolate fondant is PERFECT but do book a table inside as outside was very noisy

Not impressed at all. Pizza was doughy. Have had better pizza at Colcaccio. Service was good.

Tucked within the wonderful Verednburg mountain-side, Woodlands Eatery provides a quaint little escape from the city. The decor gives a feel of being in an authentic American Cabin while the pizza and beer make you feel warm and fuzzy inside - like home(ish)! It's pricier than you'd expect but it's worth the visit. Enjoy!

Nice place with a warm friendly vibe. I had the highly recommended Lamb Pizza, extra R25 for gluten free to a total of R145.00 so not cheap but definitley delicious. The staff were friendly and accommodating for our party spread over 3 tables. Drinks flowed quick enough and the food was served at a good pace even though the restaurant was full. Definitely give it a go. I'll definitely go back.

Such a lovely, quaint restaurant. The decor is beautiful with different sized mirrors and paintings hanging on the walls. My favourite menu item is the vegetarian burger served with sweet potato wedges. I always reorder it! The pizzas here are also a winner with interesting toppings and super thin crust-just the way it should be. Desserts are good too, but portions are fairly small and not as great as the food.

One of my favourite spots. Absolutely amazing fresh food that is deliciously prepared. The pricing is fair and the service is great! The owner takes time to acknowledge his regulars and his pizzas change lives! A great place to grab a bite to eat or celebrate a birthday. Make a booking on the weekend as they do get busy!

Since moving to the Mother City last year, I have found myself in foodie heaven. Coming from Port Elizabeth where we have around 5 restaurants worth mentioning, to a city that has restaurants on every corner, I seem to be making restaurant lists on the daily… and coffee shop lists… and market lists… and pretty much any food-orientated list that you can think of. Food is my niche, and as the cliché goes, the way to this cat’s heart is through her stomach. The Woodlands Eatery got all up in my heart from the get-go.

Situated a few leaps from the base of Table Mountain, The Woodlands Eatery has claimed itself as one of my favourite spots. If I could imagine my future home in the form of a restaurant, this would be it. Walls covered in beautifully framed illustrations, mirrors of every shape, vintage lamps, and mismatched furniture that seems to match so perfectly, this quaint restaurant creates the ultimate homely feel from the second you walk in.

Their menu is quite small; however they have something for everyone. From salads and burgers to pizzas and pastas, even the fussiest cat wouldn’t leave with an empty stomach. Their pizzas seem to have taken a hold on my tummy, so my choice for the evening was their Fiery Sera – four cheeses with bacon, honey, thyme, chilli flakes and watercress. Made with a thin-crust base cooked to absolute perfection in their wood-fired ovens and the freshest ingredients, their pizzas can definitely be considered as some of the best in Cape Town. While some restaurants put enough toppings on their pizzas to feed a family of baby mice, the chefs of The Woodlands Eatery certainly do not deprive you of the toppings that you so look forward to indulging in. For the more health-conscious, or for those who are unlucky enough to be allergic to gluten, they do offer gluten-free bases at an additional cost – something which quite excited me as little ol’ P.E. hasn’t joined that bandwagon just yet.

The staff members were friendly and attentive, and the little cat’s room was respectable. The food is always of the best standard, leaving me with only great things to say. There is one small thing I will mention, and that is that there weren’t any sweets with our bill. I was disappointed, and had to go home and eat a slab of chocolate. JK. Definitely make sure to give this gem a try my fellow Meowther City cats.

Such a lovely valentines dinner, salt and pepper squid was fantastic and a mind-blowing slow roasted lamb pizza!service was unobtrusive and quick, sadly no cocktail of the day on offer but well worth a visit.

Nice pizza, lovely venue - but not worth the price. Would rather to go Col Cacchio. Pizza was sparse on topping and a little burnt on the crust. Average. Venue is a little cold and draughty outside – so book a table inside if you aren’t going in the middle of summer.

This place is one of my favourite spots in the city. Any day of the week, with any size party. Top staff, an amazing craft beer selection and a varied, well-constructed menu covering many countries and styles.

Try the pork and mango pizza - it's right up there.
