Review The Hussar Grill - Umhlanga

After hearing about this place from family. I decided to try them out for myself. Being a lover of steaks, ribs and lamb shanks o wanted to see what the hype was about. We had ordered pork ribs which were divine and literally fell off the bone. I tried the 500g rump steak with pepper sauce, the steak was cooked to perfection and the sauce really complimented it. Excellent service from the staff and the prices aren't too bad either. I will definitely be returning there soon.

Hospitality was magnificent.. Thank you for the complimentary fried sweet potato chips. The waiter who took our tables (17 of us) was amazing.. The food was excellent. Nice relaxing music that was not too loud. Wooden tables, leather seats, bookshelves, red carpet, checkered flag floor tiles, this venue is unique and stands out for all the right reasons. Customer service was just as it should be, quick, friendly, helpful.. Only good things to say about this place. Open till late.

I really enjoyed dinner at this place. We were 6 in total. Staff was super friendly and very welcoming. They are very good at explaining the menu along with your own selection of meat from display if u want. Ambience is very relaxing. We had different kind of steaks and my friends enjoyed couple of wines too. Thank you so much and we should see u guys soon. I ordered a sirloin steak medium 300g along with a side well which was perfect. I just loved their mushroom sauce. They’re so generous that they keep spoiling you by extra finger food bites complimentary. Im impressed as I rarely give 5 stars. Thank you !

The service was great. If you're looking for good wine and something from the grill, this is the place to be. The atmosphere, since I went for a late lunch, was quite cool. The prices are just above average. I had the Ostrich, which is game meat and was not that nice for me since I'm not a steak person. I tasted their lamb shank and it was quite divine. Also had their potato chips and olives. I must say their roasted veggies are out of this world, wow, I really enjoyed them. Their strawberry daiquiri did, however, taste a bit virgin, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I personally love the Interior, the floor, the shelves, the books, the wine and how well everything works together. I enjoyed my lunch and loved how the staff were kind and they even took a couple of nice shots of me.

Very warm welcome by the staff. Sweet potato fries and olives served complimentary. One of the best kingklip fillets we have ever eaten in Durban and steak just as good. Compound butter sauce was also good, but better eaten with fish than beef.

Unassuming from the outside! Meals were on point! Service was great! You would be disappointed though if you chose the queen prawns! Was prepared to my expectations! The grilled lamb chops and steak was done to perfection! You can't fault them - it is a steak-house after all!!!

Very good, in every way. We enjoyed. The detailed personal service and recommendations, we chose from the House Specialities, and recommended wine was perfect match. Just the right touch of attention and leaving us to ourselves, thank you great night.

First time at Hussar Grill, we had the rump and fillet which was made to perfection. Dessert was the chocolate fondant, most satisfying. Overall a great experience just missed the attention to detail wrt table setting and fine dining experience.

By far the best place to get a steak in gateway mall , staff are knowledgeable able steak cuts , quality of meat is excellent. There are other options for non meat lovers , however no prawns . Sauces are excellent as well as great quality cocktails ( not any of that watered down Pre mixes ) . I would recommend the lamb chops as well , excellent and simple preparation.

My 1st visit & was pleasantly surprised with my main dish. It was beautiful on the plate, delicious. As for the desserts, best cheesecake & lava cake ever.

Had the three steak special, it was thoroughly enjoyable, the fillet in particular was so soft that it melted in my mouth. Staff were super friendly and atmosphere was inviting. The table snack was also a very nice touch. Will definitely be returning.

We enjoyed our grill in this restaurant. Staff was friendly and professional, demonstrating us the different cut of the meat. Nice first meal in Durban. And they also have lunch deal i would def try next time.

Superb 2 course Winter lunch menu is great value for good quality food. We sampled almost all the options and everything was good. Most notable were beef trinchado and crumbed calamari strips. They served freshly made sweet potato crisps on arrival, which was a nice touch - and the waitering staff was as attentive as any silver service dining experience.

If you're looking for the perfect cut of steak, The Hussar Grill Gateway is where you will find it. Loved the cozy relaxed quiet vibe which was perfect for an intimate family birthday dinner. Great service with attention to detail. Deserts are decadent and their chocolate martini is a must try.

Classy steak restaurant - friendly welcome, very efficient staff - our waiter Sean, was amazing - helpful, quick, but didn't hover around - food was fantastic, spolit with birthday ice cream & chocolate martinis. Will definitely be back.

Blown away by the service and quality food at The Hussar Grill. Their kitchen is open late and their staff are more than accommodating and friendly. We booked for my brother's graduation dinner and had to delay the booking as the graduation ran late. We called and were assured all was still in order. Upon arrival we were met with warm welcomes and immediately served. We even received a plate of cherries for our champagne which was an amazing and thoughtful touch. Incredible restaurant! Thank you for making our celebratory family dinner that much more special. We will be back. Also, your kudu fillet and mash was simply divine.

This was an awesome evening with fantastic food. Elvis our waiter handled our orders with skill and we were all impressed how he addressed each person by their first names. He was very competent and professional and has a great in-depth knowledge of the menu. I would strongly recommend this restaurant and being waited on by Elvis.

I had an all around great experience. The best service I've had by far in Durban. When traveling all you want is good food (compliments to the chef) but the service by Nokwanda(waitress) made it great. ����� I'll be sure to recommend it to colleagues and friends and definitely come back again.

Absolutely incredible food and service .. Elvis was friendly and attentive , knew when to approach and when we needed space , explained the menu to perfection so it was so easy to select a delicious meal and we never had to go looking for him. Great service like this is so rare these days. We even had the GM greet and ensure everything was in order. Amazing ... highly recommended...

Had an amazing lunch experience at the Hussar grill gateway. Popped in for a quick lunch which turned into a fabulous leisurely lunch with great service. � Elvis was our amazing very attentive waitron. Couldn’t fault the service or the food. Will be back. We both had the carpet bagger fillet steak � on recommendation from Elvis. Fabulous and so happy to have tried it after years of abstinence. And the gorgeous chocolate � martinis � at the end of the meal are to die for. You will see me soon! Happy � diner!

Had the best experience at Hussar Grill Gateway this evening. The meals were delicious and the staff attentive. Our waitress Thobi was wonderfully friendly and ended our evening with complimentary hot chocolate martinis on this rainy winter's evening. Truly a dream!

Celebrated an anniversary here. Prices are relatively high (but expected for a good steak) but the food and service were flawless so definitely worth it. Elvis, our waiter, was exceptional. He made us feel comfortable and at home.

Below Average food , not impressive at all. Had a 2 day old stale pick & pay bread roll with my burger. An award winning restaurant with a “excellence” reputation should make all their food from scratch or at least serve fresh ingredients.

We had the lunch-time special and thoroughly enjoyed it! The food was delicious! The steaks were cooked exactly as we ordered. Thank you very much to our waiter, Simphiwe, for the excellent service and for taking such good care of us and for the lovely "surprise" at the end of our meal... I wish all waiters had your friendly and helpful attitude. I will definitely be visiting this restaurant again soon :)
