Review Primi Gateway - Umhlanga Rocks

UPDATE: Mandla and his team invited the wife and I over and I have to say, this is what customer service is supposed to be. The food was excellent, the staff were all very attentive and pleasant! My wife and I really enjoyed the food, and while the place was quiet, the atmosphere was great. Well done guys, I appreciate the fact that Mandla looked into what happened durino our last visit and worked on rectifying the situation. I appreciate the honesty and I like the fact that they took the time to check in with me and apologize. Definitely a disappointing experience here tonight! My wife and I usually come here and have one dish in particular, The Recco Pasta with prawns. Having visited after a few months, we were really excited about the meal. Despite the table service leaving a lot to be desired, the food was what we were genuinely looking forward to. Upon arrival, the plate looked as though there were no prawns, I figured they were probably just underneath the pasta, after eating a little, I found just a few shards of prawn meat (huddled together on my plate next to the bay leaf (see photo?). This was all the prawn meat I could find, disturbingly, my wife had even less prawn meat. I understand that companies are trying to cut overheads and increase profits, but this is not a good reflection of the quality and service I've come to expect from PRIMI. I must also mention that the pasta was severely undercooked. We elected not to notify anyone as it's always a risk sending food back for changes in any establishment. The staff were aloof and not very attentive. We were so disappointed by the food that we cut our dinner short, finished the meals, paid and left. We decided to go somewhere else for dessert.

Absolutely love Primi at gateway. I always order the Red Bull Twist, one of my favorite drinks especially on a hot summer's day in Durban. I highly recommend the Linguine Pollo E Pesto, its so delicious.

The place is nice and has a chilled vibe. I never get wait for too long to get my drinks. Stuff were very friendly

My first experience at PRIMI Gateway and I decided to try they pasta.. It was unbelievably delicious.. The best pasta I have ever eaten in my life..

The food was amazing, the prices were affordable. The rustic ambience compliments the industrial aesthetic well. The staff was attentive and friendly. Would totally recommend. Definitely will be back.

We went to Primi yesterday and was attended to by a very good waitron by the name of Tino. Very good and very clear communication between us all. Our order was prepared quickly and to our requirements, he was very attentive to us as well. Our food was very nice and tasty. We never saw or spoke to a manager and to be honest it wasn't even required at all . Thank you Tino for making our Primi experience very enjoyable. Will be back just because of Tino.

Lovely restaurant and very, very pleasant staff. Today I ordered this chicken alfredo kind of thing and it really tasted good. Service was quick and efficient. And the Ice Tea was fantastic, infact the best ice tea that I have ever had. A great italian restaurant.

The vibe here is so perfect. The service is even better. Well priced pizzas and pastas. Only neg is our waitress added items to our bill that we did not consume, however that was sorted out. Loved it.

I love the vibe at Primi. The general ambiance of the place is great, they play great music. I had the Moroccan chicken pizza. It’s made with harissa seasoned chicken with a nice cooling herbed yoghurt dressing and coriander. It was sooo good, I almost forgot to take a pic😂

It’s been a while since my last visit. The menu on this app needs to updated. As a vegetarian I can only comment on the meals I tasted and what my non - vegetarian family members had to say about theirs. Firstly they have downsized on the vegetarian pizza options. If you want to add extras to your pizza and if it is more than the item you are substituting, it is an issue, rather not. The pizza I had was okay, the base was unfortunately soggy. The recco pasta is definitely not the same as it used to be... very bland. Family had chicken pizza, also found base soggy. Some had cuppachino, said it was very weak. Waiter was very attentive and friendly. I don’t see myself visiting soon on account of the food.

We had an amazing time. Even though we just had drinks it was really nice to find so great mocktails.Awesome electric lemonades. Really enjoyed the world cup theme.

A wonderful experience and the food was delicious ! The service was great and the slight variations were accommodated, I will always recommend this Restuarant ...

Kiddies play area+ Woodfire Pizzas+pastas.... nuff said !!<br/><br/>tasty food, dont really understand the service style but basically you can place an order with any waiter in the area, so you never short of service. place gets packed on weekends

On a rainy day in Umhlanga today, we stopped here for a mid-morning snack whilst shopping and were pleasantly surprised.. <br/><br/>Service by Faadiel - incredible actually. What a sweetheart and he let us ladies chat for as long as our hearts desired whilst serving our food in-between uninterrupted. He even brought me extra Napoletana for my Foccacia bread. <br/>Food - We shared a combination of Foccacia, salad and pizza and could not fault the flavor, portions or pricing. <br/>Interiors - With Primi, you know in terms of their generic interiors what you are going to get before you walk in but I was still happy with it. Not my first choice for a pasta or pizza joint. However not a badly priced menu. Their jam jars are worth having a go at but I reckon the average pastas here could do with a new recipe.

Pasta not cooked. Was hard. The service was good but food not sooooooooooo good. Let's just hope they'll be better when we go back. Gluten free option was sent back twice and still very hard

Primi Piatti has a nice variety to their menu.Every time I've been there the food has never failed to impress me.Their pizza's and pasta's are great! and the Litchi jam jar is my all time favorite.I enjoy the outside seating the ambiance is definitely more lively outside.The waitrons are really friendly and are always smiling.Primi is an all time family favorite.

My partner ordered recco -prawn pasta.<br/>Loved the pizza crust, there was not much tomato flavour and balance of cheese overpowered it, also I'm not liking the puree garlic on the side just not pungent enough.<br/>The recco pasta had some awesome flavours but prawns was waaaaay overcooked and sooo chewy #disappointing.<br/>

Primi Paitti at Gateway!!!<br/><br/>A great place outside of Gateway and a lively atmosphere with great food.<br/><br/>For starters my mom and I had a haloumi and lettuce starter with sauce and it was really good!!! Well first I would like to comment on the most amazing service I have ever experienced from the moment we sat down the waiter was hands on. ABSOLUTELY amazing service our food was at the table in under 5 minutes now that I call service!!! The food was so delicious and absolutely tasty! This place ia really fantatic. Micheal is a extraordinary waiter, my compliments to the owners and management for hiring fantastic service embassadors

Mmmh where can I begin <br/>Primi Gateway.. the service itself from waitress was good .. the chicken capagnola had a sour tang to it and the pasta came uncooked, twice. The vegetables that came with the pasta were not the type of crunchy I like. I understand it was busy but id rather wait for something worth paying for.. pull up your socks guys, y'all have lost two customers

I like this Primi...it's generally busy and has a nice buzz. I luv their jam jars 👌🏽 My favourite meal is the chicken capagnola...a creamy garlic sauce served with chicken and pasta...really nice flavour.

The service was okay ,actually I was a little bit annoyed by the waiter being so curious about why I'm eating alone 😕like I have to explain myself for being hungry .The pepperoni steak alone was average ,I then ordered a Peri-peri sauce ,I added it to the steak and it was delicious !I loved their peri peri sauce .

The number one thing I appreciate on their menu is their pasta. Every one of them is amazing!<br/>The wine selection is great- my favorite being Honeysuckle Sweet Red. <br/>This is the one safety net I go to for pasta and steak.

Terrible. Ordered a pizza to eat across the road in hotel room. Pizza came with 4 toppings not on. I already paid and the waiter left. Called the store and spoke to manager who said she will sort it out. 30 minutes later the same waiter arrived asking me if I ordered more food??? So I explained first pizza was wrong. Opened second pizza, and again, missing toppings. Called manager while the waiter stood with me, not even an apology from the manager about the fact that there was no basil. Simple answer was, "that's why i sent you rocket and coriander". No garlic and no chili on pizza, she says it's cooked into the tomato paste…it wasn't. Coriander was so full of sand that no one would be able to eat it. Very unpleasant experience. Never again

I made a booking for a whopping 60 people and I must say that the service was beyond amazing! They were organized and the food came promptly! They split the bill perfectly and everyone left happy. The food was good and I had no unhappy or unsatisfied people! Thanks for a great experience!!!

Poor service by cold,unfriendly waiters who aren't likely to go out of their way for customers.<br/>The recco con pollo which used to be a favourite is not as hot, spicy and creamy as it originally was.<br/>Won't be returning.

Primi's pasta is my favourite, however their serving of prawns is shameful. One is required to search vigorously for the little buggers - we got a load of it at the Primi express store ( Gateway foodcourt) , so their consistency is quite off. Secondly, service was so - so, waiters continuously asked if everything was okay, which is good, but some were really sticky characters - making our stay really uncomfortable.

Terrible service ! Gets worse and worse every year I am here . Wouldn't recommend eating here . I arrived - the table was dirty . Waiter didn't clean it until we asked . Even when he did it , he did a shoddy job . Asked for side plates and napkins which never ever came . I'm so upset - I will never come back .

We had excellent service when we went on a quiet midweek evening. Our waiter was very quick to offer refills and to clear empty plates. Thoroughly enjoyed our starters and mains.

Terrible service. The restaurant was quiet but our waiter still forgot our order, didn't slice our pizza and barely checked up on us. I was not impressed.

Been too this restaurant while visiting Durban on business trip. It's right in the famous shopping mall and has independent entry to it. Nice interiors and good music and staff.  This was my introduction to thin crust pizza and those were awesome. Really nice flavors and it was done to perfection.

Well we went for brunch stroke lunch on a Saturday. It was not busy at all but service from the kitchen was horribly slow. The normal pizza 'a were good but the breakfast well really, omelette's were cold, I had a bacon one the bacon was just lumps of vert fatty bacon and there was not cheese at all. The others had similar complaints. So all in all that teaches us not to have breakfast at at pizza pasta restaurant.

I really like primi. There is always a great vibe here no matter what time of the day you decide to visit.<br/>For breakfast I recommend two options. The French toast topped with bacon, banana and syrup is a safe and tasty option. The other option is the frittata which is a delicious Spanish omelette, quiche type dish which is delicious.<br/>For a lunch or dinner meal I have to recommend the bacon, brie and red onion marmalade beef burger. Although it is only a burger it is a fantastic taste experience all visitors to primi should try and definitely a contender in my mind for best burger in durban.<br/>Service is always good and friendly.
