Review Mo Noodles - Umhlanga Rocks

Sarah Herrington
We had a delicious meal here on Saturday evening. The menu has a wide variety of options - the Classic Combo and Thai coconut noodles with broth were both flavourful with fresh, tasty ingredients. The prawn skewer starters were also a hit. Service was also friendly and super quick. We will definitely be returning when we’re in Umhlanga next!

THE BEST THAI PLACE IN SA. I have gone twice in two weeks and am simply blown away by the taste and quality of the dishes at Mo’s. It’s to die for, and the staff are absolutely brilliant too. I highly recommend the Tong Mein (both vegetable and chicken options) or the star salad. They have their own ice cream too which is incredibly delicious. Their chicken skewer starter was also amazing.

Creamy feta and lentil salad with chili calamari is perfection on a plate. This is a very generous single take away portion shared (I added more tomato). Top marks for quality and consistency. And always service with a smile.

Thank you for the best experience, great food, great restaurant, and even better service. All the staff were friendly and helpful but special thanks to Kyra! The classic combo is always a win!

What a treat! Fantastic food, wide variety and lots of flavour - quite unique and of international standard. We had a fantastic dinner, cocktails and dessert. Will be back for more.

I had the absolute pleasure once again having lunch at Mo's. The food is fantastic with wonderful friendly service. Bonus today is i found out they have parking available in garage at the back.

Mo Noodles is my go-to restaurant whenever I don’t feel like cooking… But it’s also my date-night destination AND birthday spot! I can’t get enough of their calamari, lentil and feta salad — famously known in Durban as the Classic Combo, and now named that on their menu. Sadly I’ve moved to Cape Town and now find myself wishing I could order a Mo’s from here! I can’t recommend the place enough. Go, go, go! You won’t be disappointed!

Went to try out Mo Noodles, what an experience. Casual, laid back restaurant, great vibe, indoor and outdoor seating, food that is truly amazing with great flavors, coffee nice smooth and hot. Best of all the chocolate biscuit with nutella ice cream, something you have to try when visiting. It is to die for. Great night out thanks guys.

The peanut sesame chicken and the calamari are two well known favorites, but we tried their kingklip last time which was also great. As a side opt for the lentil salad or the most delicious coriander mash. Jack black on tap and refreshing strawberry and mint or granadilla cocktails plus the good service and nice decor and vibe male it an all round great place to go

Insanely good. Calamari tubes to die for. Service from Mitchell was outstanding. Loved everything, definitely going back as often as I can.

The prawn soup. AmZing. The calamariin lime and chilli and the lentil and feta salad was a winning dish for me.
Jenna Laureau
Mo has a fantastic menu, which is predictably good. The lentil & feta salad is just delicious, and they make the best calamari in Durban (in my humble opinion!) The coconut noodles are also delicious. Varied wine list too.

What a hidden gem. Just off the main road, this restaurant serves delicious fusion food. Our waitress Kyra was just the right amount of perfect. She was attentive without appearing overbearing and intrusive. The food itself was delicious and the portions more than enough (ok we have supper for tonight) I mean who ever heard of getting a side with your starter?! It was well worth the visit and we’ll be back

chilli lime calamari and coriander mash is my absolute favourite! prawn and seasonal fruit salad is also 👌🏽

The Thai Yellow Curry with chicken and jasmin rice is delicious! I highly recommend this dish that my family has affectionately dubbed "that yummy yellow stuff". We get it whenever we are in Umhlanga.

Great atmosphere! On a side note, our waiter had a voice strikingly similar to Chris Hemsworth which only added to the entertainment and atmosphere.

Awesome little restaurant! Quiet sophisticated atmosphere. Great food.

By far the best place to eat in Umhlanga...nice and remote with the food always been more delicious than the previous experience...calamari is out of this world!!!!

Where ever Mo’s Noodles expands to...expect the most delicious, fresh and flavorful experience that will get you begging for more. Miss Mo’s in Morningside... we happily cross the river. So worth it. !!

Unfortunately a very poor meal this past weekend. Both my wife and I were left feeling unwell for the duration of Sunday. We've both eaten here before, so the last experience was disappointing to say the least.
Jess Reiss
Great decor, music and service, but food lets the place down. Had beef noodles that were salty and beef chewy. Friend had fish that tasted old. Its a shame, as it could be really good place.
Caroline Kerdachi
What a fantastic meal last night. Big table .....well looked after by 2 awesome waiters!
Chantal Hickley
Absolutely amazing food and good service! (Ballito) One of my new favourites! Mo Noodles are the best!
Julie Harries George
Amazing venue and incredible food. What a stunning evening x

An institution for a reason. Consistently good, excellent service, if you've never been, you haven't been to Durban

Mo Noodles was my favorite restaurant in Umhlanga since moving to Durbs a few years ago.I loved the food and the casual dining experience.. After a dinner which I hosted for business associates a couple of months ago where we waited for an hour for our starters and another hour and a half for our mains with no explanation I was pretty anti going back there. However when an out of town friend suggested I pick up some take outs tonight from Mo I decided to give it another try. I arrived at 6 and waited an hour for 2 noodle dishes. I was at that stage the only person waiting in the restaurant .Again no one came to me and let me know why the delay ? Really not great .....sorry but won't be back.

5 stars for delicious food and atmosphere at Ballito. But also mainly because they just posted this on their FB page , because they are awesome! #strawssuck To all our patrons, we would like to let you know that as tree 🌲and ocean 🐠lovers, we do take our planet seriously and with immediate effect will no longer be using straws in drinks 🍹unless you request them!❤️ likewise our menus will be re-used where possible
Julie Meintjes
By far Durban's best restaurant in every way. Has been for years!
Lorinda McGhee
Awesome night and loved the food!! Can’t miss out on this venue when in Durban again.

We had dinner at Mo's last night. On arrival they couldnt find our booking, which i made early in the day. (CHANTAL) We ordered chicken skewers for my daughter which took absolutely forever to come. She is 6....surely you dont put kids meals through at the same time as the adults? I told the waiter to keep the peanut sauce seperate which he didnt listen to. They drenched her food in peanut sauce so she hardly ate any of it. We had to stop at Mcdonalds after for her. We waited over 35 minutes for her food and our food took just as long. We had one drink all evening. We were not offered more drinks at all. I also found something foreign in my calamari main which i just put in a serviette and chose not to examine...it was brown....like coagulated blood we coulnt find the waiter so my daughter went and asked for the bill. We werent willing to still wait ages for desserts. I used to looove Mo's but it seems attention to detail is lacking!!!! #bad

My favorite meal in Durban has to be the seared calamari chili and lime with lentil and feta salad from Mo Noodles. I have been eating here since they opened in Florida road back in the day. I will never get tired of this meal, ever! It’s delicious

Really enjoy the service, atmosphere and food at this restaurant! The staff always accomodate the patron's tastes and give really good suggestions. The drunken noodles and the island style curry are must tries!
Kw
The food was so disappointing. I had the pan fried chicken noodles. It was bland and tasted like old oil. AND i paid 90rand for this food. So disappointed.

Ordered a calamari salad with lentil and feta, very disaapointed! Waited over an hour for it and had to call in check if its now ready ,when received only One feta bit crumbled and the calamari was burnt and cold. Was reffered by my "how amazing this salad ",as they normally always order from them -this wont happen again and plus it cost R140.00 not cheap for a salad to suck!
Justin
Great little place, food was delicious, I had the Island style curry, packed with flavor. Ice cream is out if this world. Service was excellent and the prices are very reasonable.
Samantha Vandersteen
The prawn & lime soup is so great. It's tangy & creamy & the prawns are delicious, but it doesn't say in the menu that it comes with noodles. In my opinion, I'd rather have more of the soup as I already ordered noodles as a main course.

The hot & sour chicken/prawn soup was also great, but once again comes with noodles not mentioned on the menu. I often don't opt for carbs in both my starter & main so in future I would ask to leave this out.

The calamari salad was extremely tasty, but could've been bigger for a main course size.

The chicken fried noodles was lovely. I liked the type of noodle they used & the chicken was well cooked. Could've used some more salt as it was a little bland.

Lastly, I found the texture of the green veg curry very strange. Instead of a smooth green curry sauce that you expect, the sauce was extremely grainy. So much so that despite the taste being ok, I couldn't eat it because of the texture.
Last night was my first time at Mo' s noodles Umhlanga and I was very impressed. Being a Friday night they were fully booked but seated us outside, put a burner on for us and gave my 2 kids blankets. Service was very good and he made great recommendations on wine and food. The calamari was amazing and I had a yellow prawn and pineapple curry. All the dishes were a good size and packed with flavour. For dessert try the creme brulee and chocolate fingers with home made ice cream. Will definately be back!

The Star salad is still one of the best salads I have tasted. When I travel to KZN this is my first stop for lunch. I was very glad to see another Mo Noodles in Ballito. The noodle dishes are not up-to Japanese standards but still tasty and worth trying.
The Restaurant Phantom
No dissatisfaction at Mo Noodles.

Many visits over the past couple of years and everything is super fresh and packed with flavor.

We had the pan fried chicken noodles, sesame chicken with pink coconut noodles and the star salad was absolutely delicious and super filling. Normally not two words that accompany a healthy meal.

My 5 rating is reserved only for fine dining establishments however this humble noodle joint comes close for a quick family bite.
Kate Robinson
Woweeeee. What an amazing little spot. Simple menu but so delicious. Thanks for a great dinner!!! We had the drunken prawn noodle (highly recommended) and the chicken teryiake salad also amazing!
Adi Leach
Probably the worst restaurant experience of my life! Booked weeks ago. Arrived to find that most main courses were sold out 2 days ago!!! Devotee of this restaurant for over 21 years! Spoiled our entire holiday! Will not be back. Sis Mo Noodles! Shame on you! Sis!
Layla Babb
I recently ordered the pan fried chicken noodles as a takeaway, and I have to say I am a bit disappointed. Although the food is very good and you get a biggish portion, my noodles came without any sort of sauce, making for a rather dry and not so Asian tasting meal. This dish was R80, and I wouldn't recommend it to others.
Damien Fairley
It was my first time at MO's and I was very pleased with the place. Great little spot with a good vibe and look about it. The menu is the perfect size with not to much going on, but with some great options available. My meal was perfect I couldn't really flaw it. Service took slightly long but was not a major issue. Great place I recommend it.

After hearing rave reviews about this spot from my fellow travellers on the flight down, I may have been expecting too much from Mo's. I was instructed to have the Calamari Tentacles in Sweet Chilli Glaze but after a few mouthfuls the flavours became overwhelming and I found myself looking around for a different taste. I should probably have ordered a salad rather as it seems all the dishes were really powerful - the Peanut & Chicken noodle was so rich and creamy that I would never had managed to eat even half of it. This is a place for people who crave exotic flavours and lots of it.
On the upside the portions are very generous and the side options are extreme. You can have calamari with sweet potato mash and prawn skewers with vegetable noodles or vice versa. There were some fun Craft Beers on the menu which went down a treat, and the decor is interesting enough to keep you busy while you wait for your food.
The service wasn't bad considering it was Friday night and the atmosphere was pleasant enough. I'm not sure I'll go back to Mo's anytime soon, but that's probably more because of personal taste than quality of menu.

So this may be a slightly bias review as it is by far my favourite (non sushi) restaurant in Durban... I got off my flight and drove straight to mo noodles for lunch. This place is what drives my cravings sometimes... what I had today really doesn't matter because the food is to die for every single time. It's healthy, filling and extremely divine. I've had pretty much everything on the menu, and I really don't have any constructive criticism or a single negative comment. The service is always spot on and the owner is always hands on deck. She's always watching over her business and ready to wipe down dirty tables if she needs to..

Honestly the only complaint I have is, " why on earth have you not opened up a branch in Cape Town yet??!! " haha.

A trip to durban is never complete without stopping at mo noodles for a good (healthy) meal..

P.s. They are halaal :)...

Had an amazing dinner - coconut and prawn soup [made spicy on request :)] and calamari tentacles with sweet/spicy sticky sauce plus a passion fruit mojito = it was the best meal that I had in awhile. Also, our waiter was absolutely great.

I really enjoyed my meal at Mo Noodles this holiday. Not only was the food refreshingly different and full of flavour, but the layout is also pretty cool. We tried quite a few dishes, but the stand out was definitely the calamari salad! I shall definitely visit again soon.

It's good and it's noodles. There aren't very many noodle joints aiming to please with each bite but Mo's does. The Sesame Peanut chicken is quality. Really nice and juicy and well prepared. The Calamari is also amazing- crispy and flavourful. The fried noodles aren't great. I had the beef, chicken and prawn mix and it was ok but could've used a little sauce.
Craft beers are also a-plenty and definitely worth your while to have a few. I'm sure there could be a Mo's Noodle Beer Challenge in there somewhere

Yet another amazing evening at Mo noodles in umhlanga rocks:) the service is brilliant and the restaurant has a real vibe to it. I ordered a star salad which is a must !!! It consists of three of the menu salads in one salad. I would always recommend this spot.

Birthday dinner
From starter of soup which was bursting with flavor to my Thai style green curry I was the happiest birthday boy
Everyone else at the table was happy and I was way to satisfied with my meal to taste anything else, so from the smiles and wine I can only assume everyone else was happy.
The mood was happy being a birthday, so it would have been difficult to upset that.
Thanks MO's
Love this lil spot. Been craving noodles and thai flavours. A lil trendy spot on lighthouse road with the cutest decor and vibe. we didn't book but they seated us anyway with no problem.
The menue is perfect not too big or too small. We ordered the chilli and lime calamari starter and the hot and sour chicken and prawn soup.. Both were really divine. The soup was absolutely unbelievable the flavours and freshness is what I loved.
For mains I got the drunken chicken noodles with dried chillies and mix of peppers OMG the flavours and taste were just delisious! My husband got the coconut chicken noodles which were also so divine. Will be back cause I loved the food and the cocktails
Jason
Was excited to try this new restaurant after being recommended by a friend but can safely say was the most bland noodle dish I have ever had, totally tasteless
Nicky Turnbull
Good food and friendly staff. Peanut chicken noodles were delicious. Service a little slow, and waited a while for starters but that was probably just due to festive season rush. Will definitely go back!
Bridget
Being asked if I've enjoyed my food when I haven't received it yet (after a very long wait) did make me wonder if I had found some alternative reality restaurant whilst on holiday in durban ... Or maybe just taking the slow food movement to the extreme... But when the food did eventually arrive, it was very delicious. I had the chicken and prawn tong mein, noodles and veg in a broth. Apparently an adventurous choice... The staff were all super friendly and welcoming...I'm sure their kitchen just wasn't coping with holiday crowds...

I have been going to Mo's since it was on Florida Rd and I can honestly say their speciality crumbed chicken with peanuts and sesame seeds on pink coconut noodles is an experience on its own. It's a must try topped with loads of coriander achieving an unique variety of flavours.

Mo's noodles has moved to Umhlanga and what a lovely venue they have. The decor is beach Asian fusion with a lovely and bright setting. The food is even better! Noodles and calamari and prawns and did I mention their cocktails. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. Service from waiters could be improved.
Ilovefood
Just had a great meal with the family. Really fresh tasting dishes, calamari salad, black peppercorn chicken and spicy chicken. Really delicious and a good atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed trying a new place!

Just had such a divine early dinner here. I had the calamari salad and my sister the star salad (3 salads). Mine was delicious and so flavorful. She said all of the salads on her plate were so good also. The manager was super friendly and the waiter was good too. Really enjoyed the atmosphere. Highly recommend their homemade lime and strawberry ice tea also! Will be back!

Mo's used to be one of my favourite Umhlanga spots, but recently they have been a little underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, the food is still yum but they are not at the same calibre they use to be. If you don't mind forking out a little, the calamari and salad combo is a must. It is well worth it, however the drinks on the other hand...a bit over priced. I like that it's not situated on Chartwell Drive yet you still feel the bustling atmosphere. All in all a good night with great company.
Roshan Rahmtoola
Love this place! The food is always good, fresh and delicious and service with a smile. Be sure to make bookings on weekends as it gets very busy. I went there for my birthday dinner & had such s great time & service!

This was our second visit and it was as good as the first. This is great noodle bar. The menu is imaginative. The service is excellent. And the portions are huge. Come hungry.

I had the Sesame Peanut Chicken and it was fantastic.

Then I discovered something I missed on my first visit. They serve a truly excellent homemade ice cream. Don't skip dessert!

Rocks in my lentil salad and no apology! Not impressed. Complaint not taken seriously despite the rocks being obvious. Seriously guys! You need to put this sort of thing right.
David Skea
Great tasting food, fresh ingredients, excellent service - id definitely recommend this spot. Food and drinks arrived promptly and all at the same time, orders were taken without long waits after drinks. Very pleased.

Best calamari - especially liked the famous calamari, feta and lentil salad with prawn skewers - an absolute winner. Good relaxed tunes also set the tone for a very relaxed experience. Only let down is the location - not much of a view but the good more than makes up for it.
Megan Brennan
Great meal still as good as ever, lental and feta salad, seared calamari and prawn skewers the best one can get. Service was 5 sitar, Sebastian our waiter I must say we could not ask for better many can learn from him. Pity it's a bit far otherwise would get take always every Friday.
Gareth Potts
We went here with a group of mates.
Granted it was a big table but the service was slow.
I also was under the impression that thai food was suppose to be reasonably priced but mo noodles is quite pricey. Expensive prices on meals do not make the food taste any better and I felt the prices were over inflated to cater to the needs of the upmarket umhlanga market.
The food was good but I didnt get the athenticity of thai food from what we ordered. I had the thai green curry which was good but had the feeling of a european version of a than green curry. I did think the portion was quite small as I was still hungry afterwards but I am a young man so my appetite is a bit large.
Would I visit again? Perhaps if other reviews can persuade me that I was just unlucky.
Tasneem Lorgat
Choose wisely. LOVED the calamari starter, wasn't mad about the prawn noodle main. Cool little spot though
Jodi
We popped in here one day for a lunch. Someone recommended it to me so I thought I must try it. I was quite disappointed.

I had the mussels and they weren't great. They were quite tough and I just didn't enjoy them. My friend had the calamari cooked in chilli and lime and that was very good. The calamari was very tender. I was very disappointed with my choice.

It is a very lively ambience as it is in Florida road which is always bustling with people.

I will try Mo Noodles again but I'll try something different.
