The food was delicious and really fast. I had the Roquefort snails and they were large and tender, not overcooked or rubbery as they tend to be with large snails. The sauce was creamy and very well balanced and did not have an overpowering Roquefort flavour. I then had the surf and turf with the rump and white wine sauce. The steak was nice and thick and very juicy and my side baked potato was perfect. Service was awesome. Well done team

Waiter was a bit up with her nose, probably just a bad day. She did warm up later.. Food was tasty, drinks were delicious, busy busy when we left but all in all a good night out for dining. I had their baby chicken flatty... surprised it aint no baby chicken..."facepalm" was good tho!!

Absolutely great service and tasty food, I had the lamb shank with a buttery mash and honey glazed carrots, shank could be eaten with a spoon as it was melt in the mouth. My partner had the lamb chops which were tender and well done to perfection, we finished of with a dessert of missippi mudpie to share, this was a perfect finish to the evening. We tried them again on the next night but as we returned late to our hotel (21:45pm) we went to the restaurant at (22:00pm) time for the kitchen to call it a night but the staff and manager on duty didn't refuse us and took our order of lamb ribs which were the most amazingly tender, fall of the bone ribs we ever had. Overall great food and outstanding service!

I went to the restaurant last week for lunch with my dad and the venue has an aesthetic sitting area with plentiful natural lighting. The restaurant has lunchtime special offers which we decided to try. The special offers 5 lunch time options for R89 and includes a glass of a red/white Durban Hills wine. The special is only valid on weekdays and is not available on weekends and publics holidays

Good spot for meat and wine lovers! Preferably go with a local who can guide you on the choices! The staff is nice and prices are reasonable. Nice and quiet atmosphere.

Booked for dinner for my dad's birthday. Our waitress Zama was so attentive although the restaurant was packed to capacity. She was sweet and friendly and made sure that everything we ordered was brought to use in a timely manner. All the staff we interacted with were pleasant. For starters we orders garlic and herb snails and stickey chicken wings. My dad enjoyed the snails which were served with crispy bread to mop up the garlic and herb butter. The chicken wings were so tender and flavourful. For mains we had a chicken flattie with BBQ sauce, a fillet steak with added mushroom sauce and a T-bone all served with delicious veggies (buttery mash, butternut and green beans). The steaks were done perfectly. Super soft, tender and juicy. The portions are very generous as you can see from the caccompanying photos. They were also kept the cake that I brought in the fridge until we were ready for it. Zama brought it out on anoyhrt platter with spoons and plates for us and they had even placed the numbers and candles and lit them for us as well. We will definitely be back! Thank you for the fantastic service!!

Great service. Meat and busting sauce was delicious but I asked for medium rare but it was medium to well. That was the only problem. otherwise I loved the place and food!

Great food and atmosphere, although got very loud towards the end, probably due to a few large tables. Both my girlfriend and I had the lambshank which was tender and well made and not overly fatty or full of gristle, when you're paying for a lambshank you want the best cuts. Our waitress was attentive and friendly and it was a great evening all round. Would definitely go back.

Located in Holiday Inn Express if you are not familiar with the layout the entrance can be hard to find despite directions. The ambience is really good. It was an official party not so crowded so we had a good time. Couple of beers.I had my first taste of Windhoek. I ordered the flaties and it was juicy and flavorful.<br/><br/>My colleagues were really impressed by the meat quality.<br/><br/>Definitely going back for some steak.

Had great food especially if you have the steak unfortunately I don't eat beef so friends tried it and said it was perfectly cooked they way they wanted it. I had a Chicken dish and the chicken was moist. Waiters were fast aswell.

One of my favorite restaurants to visit. The lamb shank on a bed of mash with gravy is a must try for first time visitors. The chicken schnitzel is the most tender piece of crumbed chicken fillet I've ever tasted, paired with a creamy mushroom sauce and a fresh side salad for the carb conscious foodie.

Today I was given the opportunity to review Butcher Block in Hillcrest. This was my first restaurant that I have been asked to do so. Being a qualified chef, it’s always hard to be impressed by restaurants as<br/>You know what’s quality when you taste it. As I walked in I was greeted by the manager and my soon to be waiter, who’s name was Kevin. Since the restaurant just opened half an hour ago, I had my choice of where to sit. I always stray to those comfy couches. I was handed the menu and given a couple minutes to scan through. My waiter came back and asked If I’m ready to order a beverage. But when I asked for a non alcoholic drinks menu, they had none. Which was disappointing, as I had to ask the waiter to list everything that was non alcoholic. I decided to order a Bar One Milkshake, which was really tasteless and a bit over priced for a below average milkshake. My food choices were the Marrow Bones, Calamari and Chorizo for the starters. The Shisa Nyama Board and BBC from the Butchers Choice Selection for mains. The food arrived promptly and everything was hot. I got to taste a bit of everything and all I can say is, the food was phenomenal. From the starters to the mains everything was seasoned well and had great taste and flavour. The Steak was cooked as per my request of Medium Rare. The waiter came half way through to check up and see if everything was good, which shows he was really attentive. The overall experience was exceptional with good service and great food. I definitely will be back soon and recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for quality in dining

My medium fillet was perfection. The flavor on the butternut that accompanies the steak is sublime along with perfectly crisp fries that are fluffy inside. One of my top 5 meals! Need to try out the Florida Road branch soon..

Visited recently and loved the food. Had the Mozambican strips to start was enjoyable but rather mild. They had a steak special that night so we both tried it out after the amazing description by the waiter. It was a fillet stuffed with jalapeno and cheese then wrapped with bacon and grilled, it was topped with a brown mushroom and a vodka, paprika infused butter. Boy were we glad we tried it, it was absolutely amazing with the steak melting in your mouth and just delicious, definitely The best I've had in recent months. The Butcher Block attached to a hotel is a great idea. I arrived late and they still accommodated me. I ordered the chicken schnitzel which was not great but to be fare I should have ordered meat. Will try it again to get a better feel of the place and quality of food.

How very disappointing...... This supposedly good Restutant was way under par. The Lamb Chops were tiny, the onion rings soggy and the baked potato bland. <br/>But the worst was the massive "take away" queue as you entered at about 7pm - it felt like a bad KFC rather than somewhere where a main course and a sparkling water is over R220........ Owners - on your next JHB visit - I suggest a meal at Turn & Tender Parktown North....... The Lamb Chops are 3x the size for the same price....... The only saving grace was my waitress - Nokwazi....... She was professional and friendly.... Poor show

Reception and service from waitron was excellent. Food prepared to perfection and the ambiance added to a perfect family dining experience. Steaks was prepared perfectly to everyone's requirements which is no easy task at most restaurants lately. My family will definitely return to the Butcher Block.

This place is really good. Went for dinner and had their pork ribs.....definetly up there with some of the best I have ever had. The place also had a really great vibe plus a good selection of wines :)

I really liked this place. It has an awesome location with a gorgeous view of the beach. The food was good took...fillet steak with blue cheese sauce and mash potatoes. Like the fact that they had a special kiddies menu letting my niece have fish fingers and chips. For dessert we had a chocolate volcano and deep fried Oreos. Both were good.

Exquisite decor, flowing ambiance, great service and tasty food. Perfect place to get supper. I had the Rib Eye Steak, was satisfied with a perfectly prepared, served with a salad as a side dish. If you want to go for a romantic date, then Butcher Block would be on the list.

This restaurant is absolutely stunning and the food was great. I had the steak and I would definitely recommend it. However we were sitting near the door nd it was cold and the waitress for some reason refused to move us,not sure if all the tables were reserved but nevertheless the food is great.

Ordered take away while staying at the Hotel - chicken and prawn curry. Not impressive, prawn tasteless, curry itself was nice and spicy though. Also ordered apple crumble and ice cream. Very doughy and lumpy. This restaurant is over priced when compared to the unimaginative cuisine.

I feel was the most ordinary steakhouse I ever ate at. The Ribeye is supossed to be there pride steak. Soft yes but tasteless. Further the veggies served was bland. Definitely not worth visiting twice. Then the disappointment of the toilets. Absoluting disgusting.

Something to remember, you are the Siamese twin to a business hotel... Allow me the opportunity to elaborate. Great service, initially, nice menu, adequate wine selection, fantastic steak, perfect actually, and the at 10 am, out come the mops...nothing will kill the experience quite like the smell of bleach and an old mop...what a disgrace! I would guess that the majority of your patrons are business people, all they want to do is unwind, and enjoy a good meal, and you start to mop around their feet..? Never again.<br/>

Dined at Butcher Block for dinner whilst staying over at Holiday Inn Express. Can only comment on starters as we generally enjoy eating a few smaller portions instead of one main meal. Scampi was my favorite. Perfectly cooked and crunchy. Carpaccio and calamari a very close second. Ambience is cosy and warm.

very dissapointed with the meal. chips were not cooked through even after being redone. my calamari was rubber and i now feel ill. i think just a menu change isnt enough. apparently we werent the only people to be dissapointed tonight. such a pitty as it is such a well known establishment. hopefully better care and attention will be paid to the food next time.

If you enjoy a good steak then this is the place to visit. <br/>Been here a few times and I definitely recommend you try the bacon, biltong and cheese steak as well as the bacon, camenbert and pepper sauce steak. Both are brilliant. <br/>The location is not the best cause it can be quiet (its located in the holiday Inn hotel and there arent any other restaurants nearby), which I suppose makes it the ideal place for a quiet romantic meal. <br/>The service was great aswell. <br/>The wine list was average.
The Curious Introvert
We visited this restaurant for Valentines day. Could not have chosen a more romantic setting. The chef was there to greet us and check up on us the entire night. The malva pudding was absolute heaven. the waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. Overall, a good experience.
